It's stuff like this that shows how much of a passion that James has for movies. To spend several days researching the entire map of Philadelphia and comparing it to a movie made 40 years ago to find where it was filmed. I wish I could be half as passionate about anything as James is about movies. Keep doing what you do James, never change.
shesh, this documentary is slowly becoming about the crumbling inner city infrastructure of the american northeast. It's sad to see this history get abandoned or demolished.
Spectrum is Gone too ! Saw AEROSMITH There at Nov 78 - When Taylor got hit by a thrown bottle ! He said That AEROSMITH will NEVER COME back to play at Spectrum !
4:13 According to Google Street View, a small memorial wall is now at the site of the pet store. It seems to contain numerous wedding pictures of Rocky and Adrian as well as the name of the pet store that used to be there.
just wanna say this to James if he reads this. your videos, all of them, have made me smile over the last few weeks when things have been shit. keep up the good stuff mate and thanks! 😁
Just finished watching all Rocky movies, this documentary is a nice addition to the series. Great work on that "Rocky walks Marie home" shot recreation, too.
One of James' best videos. Also, this was actually projected to a live audience, as it was made for some sort of Rocky fan film gathering. There was also video material of that screening, but I don't know if any of the archive channels have it here on YT.
I was surprised! This "little" homemade production was really quite well done, made & informative. I'm from Dallas, Texas but this has always been one of my all time favorite movies. I had no idea so many people go running up those steps. It's like people that walk across the Beatles Abbey Road crosswalk. As a teenager (in 73) I spent the night in the same jailhouse were they kept Lee Harvey Oswald. It's all still just the same today as in 1963.
I remember I watched this documentary back when it came out. Oh man, 10 years ago! It's incredible how time flies. Thank you so much for upload it, James!
Man James did some fantastic documentaries and videos back in the day. Oh wow he updated things 5 years ago in 2017. I like when he does a re-upload with updated locations. James, it was videos you made like this that had me visiting Cinemassacre so often in the early 2000's.
Those doofuses at MGM or Amazon or whoever owns this shit now would do good to license and include this as a bonus feature on an official re-release of these films! This is as much a historical artifact as the movies themselves. Many good memories watching this alongside Rocky. Thank you, James!
That was fantastic So fascinating to see famous places in movies, in real life, then piecing the places together. James really needs to make, tons more of these.
I like how you put the location so anyone else can have a look for themselves. Maybe when I am able to once I completely get out of most of the debt I'm in, I'll go do this. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like far into the future.
Hey nerd. I was watching your videos back when I was 9 in 2007. Now i’m 20, and I’d like to say thank you for getting me into retro-games and making me laugh. I wouldn’t be the same without you.
We've been waiting to see this for quite some time. Thank God it all worked out (for now). It sure was treat. Your passion is contagious. Keep it up. \m/ Forge on! \m/.
look how happy energenic and filled with joy he was filming this pretty cool to see (no before people say it its not just cause he was younger) its cause he truly loves film and movies
There is a Rocky statue in Žitište, it was erected in 2007. Its a small town and municipality located in the Central Banat District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia.
I had to look this documentary up after hearing of people finding the "Joker Stairs" in Brooklyn and just always re-creating the scene or people cosplaying as the Joker and instagram stars modeling there. It reminded me of people endlessly running up "The Rocky stairs" and re-creating the movie day in and day out.
i don't know why but I never bumped into this location videos even if I follow the cinemassacre website since 2007. certainly one of the most interesting and passionate things you've done, hope you can make em air on the main channel.
I've spent the last few weeks trawling through all your AVGN stuff and I'm now I'm watching all your movie review stuff. Your passion for movies gets me in the mood to watch them. I'm thinking of going through all your top 50 movies (The ones I haven't seen). I hate Rocky, can't help it, I just don't like it, I want to, but it bores me rigid. But I'm thinking about letting my son watch them just in case he likes them. You're selling it 😂
Rocky plaques or little statues in all these locations would be fantastic for tourism & fans. You did all the work, you should propose it & get that done in philly.
23:14 Holy Shit, you can actually see that the footprints engraved on the top of the steps are from the soles of Converse Chucks, the shoes Rocky wore in that scene.
Love the video as always as I have for years but just disappointed that all the Rocky music and cutscenes was removed. The Take You Back Corner in the original review gave me goosebumps :(
Which would also include Paulie's headstone, now located next to Adrian's at the entrance of Laurel Hill Cemetary. Also, the tree was struck by lightning as you can in the video it's all burnt up. They had Rocky's chair fastened to the tree permanently and lightning hit it. So chair's gone, tree is burnt up, but it started dying so the completely gone now.
Some few people say James is a cuck of a person, but you gotta admit him driving in Kensington anytime within his life is some ballsy and manly dedication for this vid! Even 10 years prior to the film Rocky that area was getting bad.
Wow thank God I found this video especially because I'm a huge hockey fan and with videos like this I learn more about the truth thank you so much for sharing this video
In the 90’s, I was a fan of pro wrestling. The “Hey Yo” line inspired Razor Ramon/Scott Hall who used the same line for many years to begin his promos.
Your Cinemassacre videos are amazing and demonstrate the true fandom that we all carry inside! Plus it's great that I'm able to share Cinemassacre with my son, especially since he know's AVGN is off limits hahaha Yo Adrain!
This location video got me the motivation to watch the movie Creed. I'm going to predict a Creed jr. vs Dolph Lundgren sequel in which the age, height, and strength difference would be too ridiculous. We shouldn't be surprised that this would come out of Hollywood. The current events with Russia would be fitting though.
Almost right in your prediction. It's Adonis Johnson Creed vs Viktor Drago . The sons of Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago will be squaring off after Viktor challenges Adonis.
Wow! This documentary was so cool and inspirational. It makes me glad I've lived in Philadelphia for the last 10 years. Also, funny enough I've still as of yet to eat a Philly Cheese Steak as blasphemous as that is, lol!
Watched this in 2008 and I always watch this after watching Rocky.
"We're now leaving Kensington, thank God" 😂 too true!
I know🤦🏻♂️ And I wish it’s all the area was known for😢
I do miss that 2006-2008 era of Cinemassacre, and my life. Best years ever.
It's stuff like this that shows how much of a passion that James has for movies. To spend several days researching the entire map of Philadelphia and comparing it to a movie made 40 years ago to find where it was filmed. >2020 update
>literally everything is gone
OOF
Philadelphia is gone
That's urban blight for ya.
Update: Eagles Beat the Pats and The City was Destroyed nothing is left
@@elii3016 what about the steps? No one can touch the steps
shesh, this documentary is slowly becoming about the crumbling inner city infrastructure of the american northeast. It's sad to see this history get abandoned or demolished.
Rocky’s home hasn’t changed a bit.
Kinda like how the Wire is about the downfall of Baltimore Maryland.
Not to mention Philly is one of the most historic city in the US
They should have kept some of the important buildings like Adrian’s pet store to preserve a peice of film history
this has an old vintage feel to it I love, like it was filmed in the early 2000's
not at all, it looks like something filmed with a DV camera in 2008
yeah, and i love it for some reason.
really? I never liked it. Much prefer the look of the analog video format.
early 2000's is "old vintage" to you?
the fact this video is now over 11 years old is shocking to me...my god where did the time go
Thanks for the updates, James. So heartbreaking to know all these former locations have since been torn down and are now only alive in our memories.
Spectrum is Gone too ! Saw AEROSMITH There at Nov 78 - When Taylor got hit by a thrown bottle ! He said That AEROSMITH will NEVER COME back to play at Spectrum !

Aw.
UPDATE: The entirety of Philadelphia has been demolished.
Love the royalty-free rocky music 😂
I know it will never be as good as the real music but I actually find it kinda funny and it gives the video a bit of charm
When James ran up those stairs I couldn't help it and said to myself 'run, nerd, run!'
I come here ever so often to watch this documentary. James if you read this thank you for everything you do for us!!
just wanna say this to James if he reads this. your videos, all of them, have made me smile over the last few weeks when things have been shit. keep up the good stuff mate and thanks! 😁
Thanks a lot, that's what keeps me going.
damn you got lucky
I wasn't expecting this
@@JamesNintendoNerd you bring so much joy to everyone brother thank you infinetely
@@JamesNintendoNerd Mike why are you pretending to be James?
YO!!!!! this documentary is sick!!!!, thank you so much for made this.
This is legitimately one of my favorite films by James. Wish hed do more documentary styled films like this.
Ah a fellow philadelphian brother, love this format
This doccumentary deserves an oscar!
What are the odds I had the urge to watch this today and It was updated and re uploaded recently. Weird. Fantastic Video James!
Just finished watching all Rocky movies, this documentary is a nice addition to the series. Great work on that "Rocky walks Marie home" shot recreation, too.
Great great video, so underrated

What a treat. Watched Rocky recently for the first time and now this, like an old school avgn episode. Awesome.

Defenitly one of James's masterpieces!
Excellent work on this! Actually, I enjoy all of your work but it's nice to re-watch this again.
Great updates, i loved this movie & all your other location tours :)
Thanks for the upload
I’m glad James stayed in the car for most of the footage in Kensington lol.. it’s literal zombie land
I like how you put the location so anyone else can have a look for themselves. Maybe when I am able to once I completely get out of most of the debt I'm in, I'll go do this. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like far into the future.
This documentary is the most subtlest of arts. 👌

Ok
this is so old-school bro, well done!
Im a big fan of James' and I JUST fund this.
How is this not in the main channel?
A golden piece.

Glad to see you could manage to get this back up on youtube
My heart melts watching this. Thank you sir.
Also the committee scene from Rocky IV if I’m not mistaken was filmed at the building mentioned before Convention Center!
I love these documentary videos so much!
Thanks / Merci / Danke / Spasiba / Tack / Takk / Kiitos / Tänan - for ALL THE HARD WORK ! WE are ALL ROCKY !

wow, I did not know you had another awesome channel! really nice work, would love to see more like this in the future!!
It is interesting living in Philadelphia and seeing a lot of the places you've been to multiple times be featured in a movie.

" i wanna respect the residents" translation: i dont wanna get shot or robbed by the gangs that now run the streets
Need an update to include the Creed movies locations.

Not much has changed in 40 years , Philadelphia has kind of stood still ! Interesting , I love the Rocky movies timeless
It's gonna sound weird, but I didn't realize I lived down the street from the rocky 2 house when I was a kid.
Nice video. I wish Kensington wasn't such a mess with all the trash everywhere and the homeless, otherwise I'd love to visit it one day.
The middle one was the correct pronunciation.
In the 90’s, I was a fan of pro wrestling. The “Hey Yo” line inspired Razor Ramon/Scott Hall who used the same line for many years to begin his promos.
Great video James. Love the Mad Mad Mad Mad World one as well.
IT MUST FEEL SURREAL BEING AT THESE FILMING LOCATIONS 👏🏼👏🏼💯🎥📽📹
This video is just perfect. Thank you for sharing
I remember being at the Philadelphia Zoo during a school field trip in 1993. Back then the tiger pen looked more like it did in Rocky 2.
just plain weird that they have a "grave" for Adrian, even weirder that people would actually visit it...
This video is proof that I could listen to James talk about anything
very entertaining. You have a natural likeability. Do more of these
"New Building" at 14:05 is called Cira Centre and is right near 30th Street Station.
17:33 Badass James Rolfe walking ON THE ROAD! YEAH!

I was born there. Terrible place lol
