Rocky Climbed a Mountain (Rocky IV filming locations)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 сер 2022
- Have you ever wondered where the training scenes from Rocky IV were filmed at? I made the journey, matching up shots and doing my best to get as close as possible to some of the more elusive (and dangerous) locations that Sylvester Stallone bravely conquered as Rocky Balboa in his quest to become strong enough to defeat the human monster Ivan Drago.

Unintentionally hilarious videos are the best.
Beat-up shoes and branches lol 😆
go to a filming location nobody cares - not even the souvenir shop is interested, hiking in sneakers, jeans and two twigs... comedy gold here
I can’t believe you did not prepare at all for this climb
Those walking twigs are TOO FUNNY. Thank you sir 🙏🏼
When I saw you using 2 sticks for hiking poles I said to myself “please tell me he didn’t go up any further” lol
_Why did I pick these up? Will I be littering if I put them back down?_
I imagine he found a nice out-of-the-way place for them! ✌😉👍

Please continue doing more stuff like this. I love the AVGN stuff but these videos of traveling to the actual locations is so refreshing.
WAOW!!!
No
I love Wyoming. This is where I am retiring to.
How about T2 locations :D
For realls! I actually learned a bit of things in the video too. We need an avgn video like this now lol.
10/10. I'd love some more Nerd pilgrimages to other iconic film locations! So cool to see James so far out of his usual context.
Check out his bronson cave video.
yes, it's a shame that this kind of video don't generate much view, and doing it must be more expensive than regular avgn video
Got to love the private property signs in the middle of nowhere
the fact that you spent more than 5 seconds contemplating whether or not you were going to attempt to scale a mountain with worn out sneakers (and no gear or professional experience) is impressive to me
It's spelled "irresponsible".
no it’s spelt MOWDEN.
Could've used a little more preparation I guess 🤷♂️
Big Rocky fan btw
If it makes you feel any better James, that's not Stallone on top of the mountain in the helicopter shot. Stallone has an aversion to heights and had a double/stuntman stand in for him for that shot. So Sly didn't go up there either.
Also, Rocky seems to fight on Christmas in "Rocky V."
Weird for a guy that starred in Cliffhanger hahahaha
This is Bimmy gold!
The mowden
Jackson is also where they filmed another 80s fighting classic. In 1980 Clint Eastwood bare knuckle sequel 'Any Which Way You Can'.
You absolutely made the right choice. As someone maybe more experienced climber, you were not equipped by either experience or actual equipment (definitely not those shoes) to make that climb or even really estimate the risks.
james running LOL
Wow! The continuation to the series we've been waiting for for 14 years! Awesome!
@UnderWaterFurry i think hes referencing the original Nerd Rocky video.
@@0AwesomeProductions0 Looks like it was 14 years ha. Was thinking it cane out right around Rocky Balboa
Mao Den
Dude went all the way to Wyoming and didn’t even get to checkout half the locations…
As someone with no interest in Rocky IV, this video is enthralling. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
You should watch it
One of the best in the series
@@MagnumSkyWolf 100%
Couldn’t agree more, never seen any of the films, but this is infectious.
@@chrispbaconator watch the whole series! You can ignore creed since they aren Stallone’s idea. But watch all 6 Rocky’s!
Love when people find fun and creative reasons to travel like this
Really digging these classic style Cinemassacre videos of location hunts. They get me excited to tag along and see if you can nail the shots with the terrain. The informative movie stuff is always a treat.
You made a whole trip to go climb a mountain and film a documentary about it, and you didn't bring any climbing equipment or hiking gear. What were you guys thinking?!
What were they thinking!?!?!?
I do love the “What were they thinking” reference, but as someone who has climbed mountains before, I can tell you it’s not as simple as just bringing climbing equipment. Any pro doc you’ve seen with dangerous mountain climbs are skilled climbers with skilled cameramen and have worked out thousands of dollars of insurance. This was two fans finding filming locations. I’d say they did quite well.
@@JTCurtisMusic for sure. I'm a big fan of James and I have lots of respect for the guy. Im also a father of 2 daughters and relate a lot when he talks about them.
It seems crazy but I get it, recently I went climbing a mountain near where I live and I always thought “well what’s the point of climbing gear it’s not that big” half way up I had almost died like 6 times and my legs were killing me so I turned back thinking about how if I wouldn’t have worn shoes with HOLES in them I could have made it further
@@JTCurtisMusic Dude, James expected to climb a mountain peak which saw in a movie using twigs while wearing jeans and worn out sneakers. This was below being an unprepared film production, it's plainly against common sense.
So putting the coordinates James called out (43°35'08.1"N, 110°53'24.0"W) will take you to the mountain. If you drag the little guy out for a street view, there is a blue dot you can drop and see a 360 picture. In the picture a woman is sitting on the box James was asking about.
Awesome!!
Hiking in new balances!?
As someone who lives in a mountain range with some hikes that are daunting such as that, you did great James. Glad you were able to get close. Hopefully we get more documentaries like this.
James, you are true Rocky IV fan.
I missed these so much! I re-watch the old movie film location videos every so often so it's nice to have something new. Thank you for doing another one!
I LOVE YOU JAMES
A TV series hosted by James will be in all streaming services iconic like a video games today. Wow! The emotional ending part got my tears 😭 Love you guys!
This was so cool. Seeing the shots lined up with new footage is way more interesting than I thought it would be. Great opportunity for adventure
A classic series.
As if im not aware
Did you not think about bringing hiking gear at all?
Pure brilliant this is James well done
It was really sweet when James gets teary-eyed speaking about his daughter 🥲
I’ve been watching AVGN/Cinemassacre for a decade at least. The moment James hears that Sylvester Stallone is aware of them doing the doc is a top moment for sure! That’s just awesome.
I was cooking and missed that part, when do they say that?
@@DJmisterpeluca 2:30
The areal tram bit was hilarious.
Mowtan
Gotta love Rocky
That is some scenery, I have to go there some day.
Living the dream! Awesome scenery!
Now Stallone is gonna know you didnt make it up the Mowden, nice going, James.
amazing documentary, really loved seeing all the shots lined up. you made the right decision turning back when you did!
What disqualifies it from being a documentary? In the description it is described as a documentary, so even if this didn't qualify as a documentary, or part of a series of videos in a Rocky film franchise shooting locations documentary, some would likely still refer to it as a documentary because of the video's description.
he didn't prepare for this trip...the crying at the end man...
As if he's not aware
If Derek knows Sly then he can ask him where the precise locations are - doh!
confused. whats up with the super tiny branches for your walking stick? Is it a joke or what?
So glad this was possible to finish before 17.40
He sure climbed that mowtin
Best ever. Thank you so much Nerd
MAODIN?!
So let me get this straight; guy walks up a mountain totally unprepared by wearing worn out tennis shoes, twigs for walking sticks and no hiking gear. Then he gives up, cries and goes home? 10/10 so inspirational!
It's more than you did
@Zodiac Griller I'm not planning on going to the mountains. Was just pointing out that James did more than Wolfie up there did.
@@JC-rg7lv *mowdens
Love you nerd!!!!!!!!
Thank you James thank you FOR GETTING A NEW HAT!!! Lol 😆 That Mortal Kombat hat was looking pretty nasty and it did not fit at all
Best episode James keep this segment up. Love the adventures with you. Take care man.
Oh wow awesome filming locations love Rocky this is great
Mowtan 😂
TREMENDOUS!! Thank you so much...
Amazing. Never thought you'd make a sequel to 'Rocky Jumped a Park Bench" and it came out better than I could've ever hoped it to be. Bravo!
As an Austrian growing up in the alps I can assure you that you made the right call in the end. Climbing up there has the potential to be lethal. Respect where it is due.
You're the man, James
Maowdin.
Informative and well shot. Love this kind of stuff from James, the passion really shines through.
His shoes! Did he wear those waterproof ones
Awesome work, James! Beautiful footage and packed with fun movie trivia. I'm glad you didn't take a chance climbing to the top of that mountain. Hope Stallone sees this video.
Dude this was awesome. I like seeing you doing stuff like this. Rocky is perfect to cover again. I love AVGN but seeing you do other stuff is just as entertaining because you're an entertaining person. You rock James!
I don't see other UA-camrs doing stuff like this. This was absolutely unique. It would have been awesome if Stallone would have came out and redo some of the scenes with you.
The best thing about him doing stuff like this is that you can feel the love he has for it.
@@mage1439 Don't you mean the love his writers told him to pretend to have? You do realize he's an actor right? That man hasn't wrote his own stuff in like 7 years....
@@tomwalker8944 If you think this isn't 100% genuine him, you're not only blind but why are you even here?
Wow that would be such a great idea. I wonder if Sly would be up for that.
@@tomwalker8944 BS, Cinemassacre writers are writers, not directors. This is pure James right here, and with the Nerd.
I couldn't imagine hiking in worn out shoes and jeans.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day today 💙
22:36 That was a really nice moment. 🥲
Lol 'mow-tin'. Glad you got there Bimmy.
He can only climb the mowden until 5:40 hits
Thanks for many years of content James! Hope your enjoying yourself these days
mowtan
This video was absolutely incredible. Best video in over a year! THANK U JAMES
Really awesome you found the peak that Rocky stood and yelled Drago in Rocky 4, and really hope this gets back to Sly Stallone, it would be really awesome if you can interview him and acknowledge you guys found these great legendary locations.
This was again an awesome video James! It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. This is once again brilliant. So so so interesting!
YES JAMES! We need more of filming locations!!
Such a beautiful video with some unexpected and touching moments. Thank you James.
DRAGOOOOO
Pulled that up on google maps. there is just child sitting on that wooden create.
multiple people have clearly climbed that, no way nobody hasn't checked its contents.
I thought muzzles weren't required on flights anymore?
Great video really enjoyed it give my best to sly Stallone true legend 👍
He climbed the mowdein
Incredible James! That was definitely a very special video!!
I'm proud of you James
3:20 sorry i cant let it go, its like tee tawn
We are all here with you James, from Simon's Quest until now. You are a part of us all man.
@Dante Ryujin best wishes friend
Always
such a awesome video. Makes me want to go back and watch Rocky IV. Great adventure James, and thank you so much for pushing yourself to get those awesome shots for us
That’s too bad they didn’t keep the cabins …they could have made a lot of money by creating a place for people to train like Rocky
Amazing how all the mountains and peaks were still there, intact, almost 40 years later than the film. Makes you wonder how microscopic a man’s lifetime is compared to our planet.
85 years against 4.6 billion
I love James' film buff stuff.
I would've never looked at these or given them a lick of acknowledgement without him.
4:00 As someone, who actually HAS traveled through Siberia, I can confirm that some of this scenery does indeed look like it. Maybe not mountains, though, but fields? Definitely
Siberia....has...fields??? No way!!
@@Iansanonce-lp4nx yes...
Why would Rocky train in SIberia while the fight was in Moscow though?
@@ElizondoAbelardo because its a movie lol
@@ElizondoAbelardo you wouldnt train in alaska for a fight in LA?
This is my favourite rocky film! So glad you made this vid.
Bravo!!!! thank you for this video James, this is awesome!!!
I love how James can turn an expedition for some film location history into an emotional experience
Please do more of these if possible!!! I am shocked there isn't a travel show dedicated to movie locations. You are on to something here. Loved it
Rocky IV is my favorite sequel in the series. Thanks for the great tour.
The rocky movie are some of my best movie maybe the best movies so thank you for the experience I enjoyed every moment with you guys 🙏🏽👍🏾💪DRAAGOOOOOOOH
Fantastic video. I'm loving the latest content you've been putting out (more personal discussion type videos and cool projects like this and the cave location, etc).
