I'm full viet but grew up eating Laos food bc that's where my dad was born and imma tell you rn, that duck blood salad is one of the best things ever. Super refreshing and it pairs great with a cold Heineken. Thanks Sonny for all the love for SEA countries.
Many people do not know that Northern Thai Isan food actually originated from Laos. Many people do not think Lao has its own culture and cuisine, so I think this is a great way for people to gain some cultural insight. I would love to see next time you try some of the more mainstream and common food, as it is more palatable for foreign taste usually. The more exotic dishes are great too, but it may discourage people from trying Lao cuisine if that is all that they think Lao food consist of. Thank you for this educational video and keep up the great work!
Im glad sonny and his crew are doing a series here in my dads country, it reminds me of all the foods him and my mom make, and it makes me crave these dishes so bad. Im looking forward to the whole laos documentary at the end. Thank you BEFRS

Not many people know how to make it too, it’s quite complex to get the blood mixture right to eat. It’s a drinking dish, paired with beer Lao, amazing combo. We also eat with with crackers and chase it with mint leaves, garlic clove and ginger pieces. Craving for it, we don’t have it at restaurants here in Australia 🇦🇺. It’s gotta be made from home.

Hey Sonny I just want to say I love watching your shows I learn about so many different foods and so many different cultures it's unreal and it's amazing.
I freaking LOVE it! i really, really, really want to visit Laos someday. For some reason I've always had an obsession with it, mainly because as a teenager I dated an Isaan girl from Thailand for a few months, and I found out they're culturally pretty similar to Laotians (according to themselves). That relationship didn't last long (it was not that much to begin with anyway), but my fascination for Laos stayed :)
Thai Isaan are descendants of Lao people. Thailand took over portion of north east through war from way back in the days. So the laos people that live there became part of Thailand. Their language and culture still similar to Laos, you can tell they're different from Bangkok people.
Many Lao people moved from the eastern bank of the Mekong to the west right before the Laos was ceded to the French, one of the many factors why Isaan culture is so similar to Lao.

As an American I've never eaten every part of any animal that I've been served; watching this video makes me wonder how we got so far away from our food. Can't wait for more!
Great video! My Lao friend invited me over for some duck pizza and it turned out to be the duck blood dish at the end. Wasn’t what I was expecting! Lao food is great. Has a proper zing to it. Nothing like some grilled Lao sausage and beef tongue with sticky rice wrapped in some lettuce and herbs. They seem to make their larb with a hero dose of heat. It’s all great drinking food

Love seeing a new twist to the show, its not that the concept is old just adding in something new. Having someone from the culture that has been more in the USA than their country of origin, if people that live in the country somtimes dont know many things about it now someone that lives outside to see what there is to offer. Love the show.
"The American way" lol. I always knew our food selections were limited but man this show never ceases to surprise me with just how miniscule our food options really are. Speaking of, its crazy just how many countries have different variations of blood sausage, but not once have I ever seen it here.
