June of 69, just got back from Vietnam and discharged from the Marines. Was headed off to college in the fall. Spent the greatest summer of my life with my then wife at the beach. So grateful and thankful to be alive. I had only seen her for one week in the last 16 months.So many of my Marine buddies didn’t make it back. I am 74 now, retired after a great career in the chemical industry.Blessed with two children and two grandchildren. Even today when I hear this fantastic song , I still well up inside thinking about that wonderful summer of 1969. Home safe, so very thankful to be alive with my future in front of me.

I am 66 years old and I was lucky to go to a lot of concerts in my teens. My daughters listened to my music and both said " We were born in the wrong generation- your generation had the best music ever". I think they are right.
I grew up in Southern California. The San Fernando Valley. I first heard this song at about 8 or 10 years of age and still love it to this day. Still lose myself in it after 47 years or so.

At the same time as the songs of peace, love and harmony were being sung, the radicals of the time were sowing the seeds of seperation in society. Dividing people by ethnic groups and encouraging a distrust of any but their own kind. Coming into the new century, it's been very disheartening to see the radicals winning the color game. An old friend of mine just posted a Facebook message and a beautifully ethereal watercolor sunrise over her home this morning, with the song's first line of lyrics, "Look over yonder, what do you see? We were each between 9 and 12 years old in 1969 when we first heard this epic song, and its beauty and message still reverberate with love and joy every time we listen to it! Jamel, this is the original song, no one ever covered it as far as I know, it was one of my favorite songs of the late sixties, and probably my favorite of 1969. Tommy James is still performing concerts, he's incredible, you should hear his story, peace and love to all.
I was just a little boy when this song came out. Tommy James is an icon which my oldest brother got me hooked on. God rest his soul, my oldest brother was born in 1949 and I was born in 1960. So when I hear this song it makes me think about him and miss him. This is just great music to grow up with. Good choices in music brother. Also there is a live version of this amazing song.

I was in the Navy in Hawaii in the late 80's and got out and got married all on the same weekend. I started working at a power plant out there and lived there for 12 years. Every weekend they played the "Perry and Price Million Seller Weekend" on the radio. Every song had to have been certified a million copies sold. We'd be at the beach and they'd play this song. Now, I'm in cold and snowy Washington State.........And every time I hear this song I'm young and back on the beach in the sun looking at the waves. That's the power of great music.

I was born in 1969 and in 1976 I saw a commercial on TV advertising a Tommy James and The Shondells 2-record set of 26 great hits for $6.98. Tommy was actually in the commercial, promoting the vinyl set. I loved the music they were playing from it and asked my mother if she would buy it for me, and she did. I played the heck out of it and I still have it to this day. The records are even still in excellent condition.

I seen Tom James on the 700 Club a few years back and Tommy said that the song was about the Lord Jesus Christ. I thought that was intriguing. I would have never guess, but upon reflection I can hear it.

Tommy is one of the great pop songwriters of our time. He's still writing and producing brilliant pop music. So melodic, and what a unique voice. This is one of his gems, but he has many others. And while everyone loves the old sixties songs, try some of his more modern ones. Absolutely brilliant tunes with great song structure, etc. Try "Distant Thunder," "You're So Easy to Love," "Angels and Strangers," "Runnin; Out of Love," "Love Words," "Love Is Gonna Find a Way," "Hold the Fire." You will love this stuff.

Oh I love this song, one of my all time favorites. Such a feel good song. What a unique sound it had. Every time I hear it I remember that summer it came out. Especially one beautiful sunny morning heading to the park by the Harlem River with two older kids Jimmy and Luigi singing this song as we walked along. What a memory and what a summer 69 was.

Thousands have no idea Tommy James is a young (when the song was written) white kid from the suburbs of Detroit after he had traveled the U.S. and Europe than started writing with all of those influences. I was born in the Bay Area. A little younger than you. Growing up in the Bay in the 60s and 70s. No place I would have rather grown up. My parents were from a dirt poor little town in Arkansas. I used to tell them, thank you for leaving and coming to the Bay.

Times were changing. Growing up with songs like this is why it's so hard for people of my generation to watch today's youth try to drag us back into that segregated mindset. They have no idea of the struggle we went through to drag 'our' parents into accepting people 'by their character and not by the color of their skin'. But when people in power want to make it an issue to further their narrative and the media are complicit in that scheme, there is little we can do to combat it. I do find it most interesting that there was always talk from those on the left that we needed to get rid of the Old, white male as president, yet they elected Biden. I am firmly sure that he is an old, white male. The true racists are those woke white idiots on the left who march for unity, yet don't espouse such things as soon as your give them facts. Facts are kryptonite to them and their narrative that racism is a major issue. Just because you think something is happening doesn't actually make it true. They live in an echo chamber, and until they break free from that, "racism" will always be an issue, real or imagined (and most of it is imagined). I hope you have a great day. At the same time as the songs of peace, love and harmony were being sung, the radicals of the time were sowing the seeds of seperation in society. Dividing people by ethnic groups and encouraging a distrust of any but their own kind.
Coming into the new century, it's been very disheartening to see the radicals winning the color game. We are nothing but pawns, being sacrificed by people we elect and should be able to trust. Instead, they are playing by rules most of us don't even know let alone understand.

We were each between 9 and 12 years old in 1969 when we first heard this epic song, and its beauty and message still reverberate with love and joy every time we listen to it! Jamel, this is the original song, no one ever covered it as far as I know, it was one of my favorite songs of the late sixties, and probably my favorite of 1969. Tommy James is still performing concerts, he's incredible, you should hear his story, peace and love to all.
I was just a little boy when this song came out. Tommy James is an icon which my oldest brother got me hooked on. God rest his soul, my oldest brother was born in 1949 and I was born in 1960. So when I hear this song it makes me think about him and miss him. This is just great music to grow up with. Good choices in music brother. Also there is a live version of this amazing song.

Tommy James wrote this song around the time he became a born again Christian. He was inspired by several passages in the Bible (mostly Revelations and Ezekiel) where men see clear visions. He has had more than a dozen hits, including the mega hit "Crimson and Clover", but Crystal Blue Persuasion is the one hit he always makes sure he performs when he does an appearance.

I was in the Navy in Hawaii in the late 80's and got out and got married all on the same weekend. I started working at a power plant out there and lived there for 12 years. Every weekend they played the "Perry and Price Million Seller Weekend" on the radio. Every song had to have been certified a million copies sold. We'd be at the beach and they'd play this song. Now, I'm in cold and snowy Washington State.........And every time I hear this song I'm young and back on the beach in the sun looking at the waves. That's the power of great music.
I'm a Baby Boomer & I have to say that the 60s produced more (varied) genres of music than any other timeframe. The talent that came out of my generation was enormous. I think it was also the 1st time international musicians hit USA soil... The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Cream, etc.

I was born in 1969 and in 1976 I saw a commercial on TV advertising a Tommy James and The Shondells 2-record set of 26 great hits for $6.98. Tommy was actually in the commercial, promoting the vinyl set. I loved the music they were playing from it and asked my mother if she would buy it for me, and she did. I played the heck out of it and I still have it to this day. The records are even still in excellent condition.

Tommy is one of the great pop songwriters of our time. He's still writing and producing brilliant pop music. So melodic, and what a unique voice. This is one of his gems, but he has many others. And while everyone loves the old sixties songs, try some of his more modern ones. Absolutely brilliant tunes with great song structure, etc. Try "Distant Thunder," "You're So Easy to Love," "Angels and Strangers," "Runnin; Out of Love," "Love Words," "Love Is Gonna Find a Way," "Hold the Fire." You will love this stuff.
According to James's manager, James was actually inspired by his readings of the Book of Ezekiel which (he remembered as) speaking of a blue Shekhinah light representing the presence of the Almighty God - and also Tommy's readings from Isaiah and Revelation - telling of a future age of brotherhood of mankind, living in peace and harmony. Now this is absolutely "keeping great music alive." This song came out in 1969, when I was the tender age of 10, and really starting to get into music. It's in my top 10 favorite songs of all time, so thank you so much for this! Other great songs by them are Crimson and Clover, Sweet Cherry Wine and Mony Mony.
I was 11 years old when this came out. We were listening to songs like this in a one speaker radio in the middle of the dashboard before stereo speakers were in cars! Oh I love this song, one of my all time favorites. Such a feel good song. What a unique sound it had. Every time I hear it I remember that summer it came out. Especially one beautiful sunny morning heading to the park by the Harlem River with two older kids Jimmy and Luigi singing this song as we walked along. What a memory and what a summer 69 was.
