The summer of 1969 was the greatest summer of my life. Returned home after a 13 month tour in Vietnam as a combat Marine and discharged after a four year enlistment. So glad to have made it back in one piece and ready to start adulthood at the age of 22. Had been accepted to collage in the fall so I took the summer off to try and understand what I had just been through. My then wife and I rented a cottage at the beach and spent everyday at the beach . Couldn’t believe I was back home and alive and safe. This song was a huge hit that summer and it became our song. Even now when I hear it played, I well up inside thing of that magical summer. Alive, safe and home.
From the bottom of my heart ❤
Thank you💯🙏🤝
I was 20 in 1969. I know all about the Vietnam war, you didn’t get a welcoming home, I guess too many people were so against that war. I want to tell you…” thank you for your service! “ John Ciummo.👍🍷🍾💙👏👏👏
Glad you made back safe
Thank you for your service!
Absolutely the best!
This song makes me think of that Jimi Hendrix quote: "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." 💗☮✌
One of my favorite quotes. Too bad our world just won’t listen
Most people don't have their ears on
Tommy James and the Shondells are ANOTHER great group from NJ !!
They’ll be peace and good, brotherhood!! Crystal blue persuasion, yeah!!!
Let's remember Jimmy was high on heroin when he made that statement.
I'll say it over and over .The 60s gave us some of the best sounds ,ever.
So many positive songs .Just feel good music.
Indeed!
PREACH!
I haven't seen people react much to Herman's Hermits yet. They had so many hits!!! Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart had that one hit wonder I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight. The Tremeloes Had Here Comes my Baby. The talent is endless ❤
Long live the '60s. Best music EVER!
I agree
What a fantastic, fantastic song! One of the greatest of all time!😮
This song takes me right to summer, and being a kid..carefree..💕
Hey... I'm over here! I'm there too.
One of the number one hippie songs of its era. Is such a feel-good song. It's talking about peace & love. And that's what we need now man. All this division needs to end you know we need a bring peace and love back because only love can stop hate. Peace to the peaceful fam. ♥️✌️
Willow, This song was never about hippies or drugs, just the opposite. Listen to Tommy James explain what the song means in his own words: ua-cam.com/video/GR69fuo_Q3k/v-deo.html Find out what he means by peace and love and brotherhood.
@@henrywilliams1439 then that song is 100% true. That's the feeling you get. That is too beautiful I love it thanks for sharing. ✌️
You are listening to one the greatest songs ever. Grew up listening to this epic classic, man remember sitting my room with friends, smoking some weed, in a BONG!!! Yes, a BONG, wow what a blast from the past. Thank you guys, for the trip back to the greatest, times of my life. Thank you both. Anyone remember the water BONG? LOL.
@@nickfiorenza5930 oh hellz yes. I remember in the 80s doing the same thing. I was just a kid in the 70s but boy it was a wild trip. Peace to peaceful ✌️🤘
Yada, yada, yada, the Homo-sapien is a VILE critter! IT will NEVER grow-up. NEVER NEVER NEVER- All those pseudo-idealistic hippies became sell- out yuppies etc.
One of those songs that's so beautiful it makes me drop a tear.
A song the embodied the 60s feeling of peace and love .
So happy that you are hearing this frequently overlooked song. This is a song of summertime to me. Just cool and relaxing like floating in a pool on a warm summer day.
PERFECTO!
This is the kind of wonderful music that was floating around during my childhood. It takes me back to a simpler time when life was sunny and mom and dad were still around, young and healthy. I would love to go back there for a visit.
This is the music I was blessed to grow up with! Glad to see you finding and enjoying it!
"peace and good, brotherhood" simple but profound
This song was recorded in 1967, LYSTEN TO THE LYRICS! EVERYONE,& LIVE THEM!
I don’t think that there’s an artist yet that you’ve listened to that you’ve enjoyed so much, and after 3 songs it just keeps getting better! Is it any wonder that those of us who grew up with this kind of music say that todays music pales in comparison?
I was born in 62 so man we lived through some crazy times back then and the music was always spot on everybody’s genre was just off the chart good what a lucky time for us and I don’t believe music exists in the form that we know today might as well call it but music or something like that and old cause it’s all machines so you lose the soul and the connection of the man or the woman to the instrument as always love your channel peace love and joy to you and yours
Tommy James was inspired by the Book of Ezekiel where it speaks of the Blue Shekinah Light representing the presence of the Almighty God and the Books of Isaiah and Revelation where it speaks of a bright future of a brotherhood of mankind living in peace and harmony. But most listeners thought "Crystal Blue Persuasion" was a drug song.
In addition who represents the color 'Crystal Blue' in these times..................I believe that would be Archangel Micheal !!!!
Well, the video certainly doesn't help with the drug perception. How else can you explain having the word "trip" flash on screen? There's also one shot on someone dropping white powder onto a table and a shot of a sign that says, "Welcome Stoners." Maybe this was the record company's decision and not TJ's, but still.
I'm happy you shared the truth about this song!! Thank you, I'll have to checkout these books in the Bible 😇
My thoughts exactly.
Praise God! I had no idea, thank you! 🙏
The lyrics to this song are about a new world full of love under God's rule. It is truly a beautiful song.
Amen
Daniel 2:44
I think the word you might be looking for is euphoria. :) This is such a happy song. It makes you feel hopeful and dreamy all at the same time. I love your reactions and your channel, keep up the good work !
Euphoria, yes. Good vibrations.
It's wonderful when that vibe surrounds you for a while... b4 the hacked-up stuff returns.
That's what I thought in my head. Euphoric!
@@petiteme1960 EuphorIC! yes!!
THIS IS AN VERY SPIRITUAL, INSPIRATIONAL SONG. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS. I THINK THIS IS TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS BEST WORK.
Charles, I agree that this song is very spiritual. I love it. Check out my comment.
Same here. After this, Crimson and Clover.
It seems like people were more loving and in touch with each other back in the 70's. We need to get back to that and come together again. More Love.
Always loved this song. PEACE LOVE and BROTHERHOOD. This needs to be blasted from ever speaker in the country as a reminder
The feeling I receive while listening to this incredible song is not about just the lyrics, (although amazing), but the flow of the music in itself, is captivating, smooth, otherworldly, but I think mostly it instills a measure of love and uplifting power!!! ❤️-white & 💙°°°°°°°°💖🖤💞💜💗💛💝💋💕🧡💚👀💌
Hey I just wanted to say "Thank you" on behalf of all of us who love "Old School" music. It's a lot of fun watching you guys checking out all these great singers and songs. That was MUSIC!!!
Anyone that went to Vietnam is a hero. Think about it. No one whats to go to War. But when your drafted you have no choice. They are all courageous.
Sweet! 1969. Summertime chillin' by the pool! When you're ready for more songs with a chill vibe like that, there are a few others, but only a few: The Young Rascals "Groovin'" (1967), Malo "Suavecito" (1972), The Temptations "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" (1971), The Sapphires "Who Do You Love" (1964), The Impressions "People Get Ready" (1965), Billy Stewart "Sitting In The Park" (1966), and The Turtles "You Showed Me" (1968).
Songs of the 60’s and 70’s make you happy and fall back in love.🥰
The word you're looking for is
"Euphoric" ...❤
I think it's my favorite song of all times.
They played the hell out of this song on AM radio in the summer of 1969. I think it was #1 on the billboard top 40 for several weeks.

I Think We're Alone Now is another must listen by them!
One of those songs you can set back and re-hear over and over and never get enough. This song brings back instant memories of a Sunny morning walking down the the street with two of my friends and they were singing this song. Peace and good brotherhood!
Yes: Crystal Blue Persuasion is a fantastic smooth blue eyed soul sound:
Some more blue eyed soul:
How can I be sure- Rascals
Suddenly- Olivia Newton John & Cliff Richard
Emotion: Samantha Sang
I'll Always Love You-Taylor Dayne

Yes I'm Ready- Terry Desario & K.C.
Guilty-Barbara Streisand & Barry Gibbs
Too much Heaven-The Bee Gees
A Love of Your Own- Average White Band
Baby come Back-Player
Do you want me- El Chicano
this was the counter culture at its best. Love and peace. What is wrong with that, One of the all time great songs if only people would listen to the words and enact them.
We used to call it a "natural high." That's what you guys are feeling. Love your channel and your journey -- thanks for sharing!
FLOWER POWER! This song is a definite VIBE.
Love Tommy James & the Shondells, takes me back to 70’s summertime & dancing !! As soon as I hear the first music I know who it is - their music was one of a kind ! My girlfriends & I used to sing & dance down the street to this wonderful group ! 😊Thanks for bringing back one song I truly love & sharing it with new generations 🥰💥
It is said Tommy James got his message & ideas for this song from a few books of the bible , which I never knew !
This was the 60's can you dig it?
Maybe one day when He looks down on all His children, He will see Peace, Good and Brotherhood. A powerful line. I saw this group in 1983 when I was 28, still one of my favorite group
A MUST HEAR FEEL GOOD CLASSIC,,
THE BLACKBYRDS "WALKING IN RHYTHM"
I lived this era, very violent at times. We needed music like this to calm things down. Great song!
This was a number one hit for "Tommy James & The Shondells" back in (1969). Chart Peaks #1 on Billboard & Record World respectively. And #2 on Cash Box.
The song was about the virulent 60's, and the Awakening of the Youth of America. From which I was one of them.
We protested on every important issue from Civil Rights, Social, Economic, and Political changed. And free college tuition for poor and inner-city youth. We also wanted the end of the Military Draft. And the end to the War on Viet Nam.
And everything we protested and fought for back in the 60's. "Came to Fruition."
Generations after reaped the benefits of our fights.
He stated in an interviewed that this song was about himself becoming a Christian. And how we should learn to love one another instead of hurting one another. It is a must-see interview. It will give you a clearer perspective as to how Tommy James came to write this great song.
Thommy James & The Shondels would go on to have multiple top ten hits during the 60's and 70's. They were an awesome group.
Yes, I agree. All this was for the greater good of humanity and was an outward expression of spirituality, not necessarily of religion and it's dogma. You might like to check out my comments.
54nomore and barnowl - You couldn't be more wrong. It has nothing to do with hippies or drugs. Listen to Tommy James explain what the song means in his own words: ua-cam.com/video/GR69fuo_Q3k/v-deo.html
This song will never get old to me, it's beautiful and meaningful.
Clicking like before even watching the video! That's how much I like this song and you two!
Yes we had the best of the best in my day, real talent equals beautiful music
Great reaction! Gotta check out Tommy James & The Shondell's - Sweet Cherry Wine.
Man, I haven't heard this in decades! Thanks for bringing this back! And in the larger sense, I just love the energy and good vibes you guys provide!
We couldn't change the whole world like we tried, but we changed our own little world for a while! Beautiful song. Great reaction.
I have had my vinyl album from them for 25yrs Play often!!
Amazing live!!
Next on the TJ and the S rabbit hole:
"Sweet Cherry Wine," "Mirage," "I Think We're Alone Now," "Mony Mony," and "Hanky Panky." The last two are old school dance tunes, the others are from the later, psychedelic era.
Yep. We were spoiled with the best music EVER!!!
The meaning behind this song was inspired by the bible, where in the book of Ezekiel it speaks of the blue Shekinah Light, which represents god, and then, in the book of Isiah and Revelation where it mentions a bright future and peace among all of gods children, so Tommy came up with "Crystal Blue Persuasion". This is a song for peace while going through 1969 and the Vietnam war, and that's also what "Sweet Cherry Wine" is all about. Yeah, the world needed songs like these, we still do.
SHEKINAH is A demonic spirit and the Jews pray to this deity at the wailing wall.
@@juaneyahclinyah8272 Well, I don't know where you got that from because I just looked up the meaning of the word on google and it says and I quote "(In Jewish and Christrian theology) the glory of the divine presence, conventionally. Represented as light or interpreted symbolically. (in Kabbalism as divine feminine aspect). In the bible it means dwelling or settling and denotes the presence of God, as it were, in a place. This is pretty much what Tommy James was saying, in fact, I looked up what the song's meaning was. There's no mentioning of any demon anywhere.
You 're the the most delusional KOOK on TUBE This song dont have anything to do with that superstitious bible BULL
If you like this song (and you obviously do), you'll also like "Groovin'" by The Rascals. It has the same feel.
Yes! I would love for them to do Groovin by the Young Rascals
I was a teenager during this era.. Haight-Ashbury was were the Peace and Love culture started in San Francisco-it was a time hard to describe in todays world with all the strife-just a great time to be young,
This was the flower power of the 60's full of hope and love 💕
This song is like a religious experience without the religion. It’s also one helluva slow dance song.
Gary. This song is about the religious experience that Tommy James had with Jesus. That's what the words mean "When HE looks down on every town, All of his children, And every nation, There'll be peace and good brotherhood." Listen to Tommy James explain what the song means in his own words: ua-cam.com/video/GR69fuo_Q3k/v-deo.html
This is my EUPHORIC LOVE VIBE Song.❤️❤️❤️🙌🏼🌹🌹❤️❤️
Thank you! I've been trying to get people to react to this great song for a long time. It's just so beautiful! ❤🍀
You two would have been groovy hippies back in the 60s and 70s. Trust me, I was there with my daisy print bell bottoms and peace sign necklace!
The feeling is euphoria!
SWEET CHERRY WINE BY T. JAMES + SHONDELLS☮️🎸🎵
Wellcome to GOLDEN GATE PARK- CIRCA 1967- SAN FRANSISCO. Those images are real! REAL PEACE & LOVE! These were HEADY times my friends! We ALL got along. What you see there is REAL!✌
these 60s and 70s songs you listen to are going to make ROCKers outta you!
I mean shoot, they sold 100 million records! That’s amazing!
One of Mom's favorites.
Listen to their song called sweet cherry wine excellent so you won't be disappointed
My favorite record by them beautiful music beautiful words. The words still hold true 53 years after it was released. If guys can check out Ray of Hope originally done by The young rascals. Also done by the soul generation both are great the ending is a little different from the rascals. The song has the same message ( in fact there is a line mention more than once. Help us to make his dream understood which is a reference to Dr King the song is about working towards making the world a better place. Where all people are free. The words Are just as beautiful and meaningful ✌️&♥️
Thanks for suggesting the Rascals, Ray of Hope. I don't think that I've heard it but do have a number of The Rascals records and CDs. I'll check it out .I love The Rascals and especially their spiritually orientated music. You may like to read my comments on this song.
@@barnowl5774 thanks Will do
In 2019 I had the pleasure of hanging with Tommy James after an outdoor concert The Shondells gave at the beach in So. California. Tommy isn't shy about his Christian faith. He told me he wrote "Crystal Blue Persuasion" to inspire everyone to come to God and share in His love. He wrote "Sweet Cherry Wine" about the saving blood of Jesus Christ. A lot of hippies were rejecting the drug culture and finding God in the late-'60s and early-'70s. But, even if you enjoy the song on a secular level - the vibe is so positive.
Check out Tommy James and the Shonells "Crimson and clover" you love it!
Amazing how my generation didn't need electronics to make music, and still made beautiful music
1968, 1968 and we’re still waiting for Brotherhood Most Definitely!
We really thought we could achieve it. Let's don't give up!
I'm a hippie. Our parents were so uptight. This acid rock mellowed us out. The older generation hated our music. They didn't think we should love one another, but the music brought us together Thank you, we will always have the music to keep us together.
All of this positivity was written and projected about fifty years ago. It speaks to the optimism of the moment and also the tragedy of the passage of time and the loss of a dream.
I was born in 1959. Think of all the great music I got to enjoy FIRST HAND. I am truly blessed and grateful. Great video.💖
You should jump down this rabbit hole, you won't regret it. They have many great songs!
It's about finding God and everyone getting along. I love this song.
Please check out my comments regarding the meaning of this song regarding God.
Such an amazing song, released during an amazing point in history.
I was 16 years old when this song was released in 1968. Such a period of change. It's like the air was electrified.
Not going to lie, being 72 is a bitch sometimes, but I'm so thankful I grew up in the time that I did AND in the place I did - Berkeley, CA. Incredible memories.
Het, S & M. Back in the day they would have said this song was - GROOVY!
Laying out at the beach, listening to this on AM radio in the summer of '69. The Youngbloods' "Get Together" is another "feel good 60s vibe".
Mega hit makers.
Crimson and Clover is another of his great sounds
I felt this song when I was about 8 years old in 1968. The world was changing at that time .
New heavens and new Earth
The 60's. Love, peace, flower child, weed, no fighting, just melo , stoned. That was the last 60's. Woodstock. My generation. Fun to watch the young folks enjoy it. Those were better times. Peace. Enjoy your channel
Shawn and Mel, just a suggestion, when you listen to Tommy James you should put flowers in your hair and carry peace signs.
It's the "Cali-vibes" that you're feeling. The sound is distinctly Southern California. Next up: Suavecito by the group Malo. You'll absolutely LOVE it!!
This is the music of my youth. I was in high school and this was what I listened to. It was the beginning of a new generation where people were giving up the ways of the past and seeing everyone as children of God. All brothers and sisters!
Just love this song guys. After about 60 years, I still get all goose-pimpley with every note. It's pretty, pretty, pretty. Thanks for the buzz.
Another band you need to listen to is Emerson Lake and Palmer…From the Beginning. It also has that mystical feel good vibe. I promise you’ll love it
Have always loved this "feel good" song! It's been in my phone playlist forever :)
Singing about the holy spirit that will change hearts and minds. Love is the answer. Love you guys
Thanks so much for doing this song guys. What great songs do is they stand the test of time. The song is over 50 years old, but it will still be great 50 years from now.
The 60’s vibes. That’s the feeling….peace, love, and joy
This song made me cry...we need this at this time in our country and world
My favorite song by Tommy James and the Shondells. It goes straight to your Soul.
One of my favorites by this wonderful group…Tommy James & The Shondells!👍🌹
My grandmother was only 39 years old when I was born. Nannie was the coolest lady in the world. She turned me on to rock&roll when I was four---by that time there was also a toddler and an infant at home and Mama was afraid that she wouldn't be able to keep me occupied or stimulated. She had an old hi-fi so Nannie started buying me 45s. I was the type who often liked Bsides better than As. She also taught me some of the latest dances. She was my biggest fan until she died the day after her 94th birthday---and I was 55. Nobody has to tell me that I was a lucky girl.
It's called "being mellow"... and it rocks!!
I consider this song one of the best by Tommy James and the Shondells. The group during 1968 and 1969 sold more singles than any other in the world, including the Beatles. During that time they scored with hits like HANKY PANKY, MONY, MONY, I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW AND CRIMSON AND CLOVER. When you want to relax this is the perfect song for that. Best memories from the 60's and 70's, where music was music.
WAR "ALL DAY MUSIC" & "SUMMER"...CLASSICS.
Ball of Fire --. Sweet Cherry Wine -- Mony Mony -- I Think We're Alone Now ♥️♥️
Another great uplifting song is Love is the Answer by England Dan and John Ford Coley.
I was so lucky to have grown up in this era. Tommy James was what we called a cross-over group back in the day. Everybody loved them.
