Dr Mindy’s interview about 36 hour fast from last year on DCEO changed my life! I am 55 old trying to lose weight for more than 8 years, running 2-3 times a week 5K, eating healthy and nothing. I started fasting 36 hours every week since beginning of April and lost 16 pounds, I lost my cravings, menopausal symptoms, foggy brain and fatigue. I am a new woman, lighter, brighter, happier and healthier! Thanks a ton Dr Mindy ❤❤❤❤❤

It may work for you and I glad. But I am close to your age and lifting weights actually will make you long term toned and slim. Nothing crazy, but add some weights and I don't think unless you speak to a doctor before you stop eating 36 hours a week. Not great for your metabolism.

French use apple cider vinegar to prepare natural sauce for salad:
    - half tablespoon of mustard
    - 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
    - 2 tablespoon of oil (olive, sunflower, nut, whatever you like, I used to mix two different oils)
    - salt and pepper (moderately)
If the taste of the vinegar is too harsh (I don't know the percentage in different countries), add a little bit of water (1 tablespoon).
This is excellent for any salad.

My mom was the best and taught me how to eat properly. She cooked from scratch! If we were hungry before dinner , too bad, she gave us a carrot then told us to wait and play outside, period. We then played outside more. After dinner we had one snack like fruit, nuts or buttered bread. Cookies or cake was for birthdays or holidays only. Soda as well, they were treats. All I see now in the aisles are processed crap. My husband and I eat lean meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, eggs, some dairy, some carbs but good ones like brown rice , oatmeal. Of course some condiments in moderation. Full fat dressing. Our cholesterol is in normal range and our glucose levels. Weekends we go out once for whatever we want. That’s it. We are within our bmi, we work out. Dumbbell work outs, walk our dog. We’re in our late 50’s. And drink water throughout the day. We keep it simple.

I have never consumed alcohol in my life. Coming from a place where alcohol is almost non-existent, moving to the U.S. was the first time I encountered the idea that happiness or relaxation could be achieved through drinking. It was a jaw-dropping realization for me. I agree that, if alcohol didn't exist, humans would still find other ways to experience happiness. There are billions of people worldwide, like myself, who have never touched alcohol yet still find joy in life. This is a clear example that happiness and relaxation come from many other sources, such as meaningful relationships, hobbies, meditation, or simply enjoying the present moment, not just from substances like alcohol.

God commanded us to fast during the holy month of Ramadan. From dawn to sunset no food or water for 30 days. Every year Muslims walk away not only feeling closer to God but physically we all feel great, acne gone, mental clarity and so much energy. All the prophets of God fasted.

01:15:30 - she says about measuring glucose (blood sugar level). I actually did it. After her very first episode on this podcast, I bought a glucose monitor - it was for diabetic people. I thought to myself: funny that people start to pay attention to their blood sugar AFTER they get sick. (not talking about those who got it from birth). Anyway, I put this glucometer to my upper arm, it was recording my blood sugar online - connected to mobile app. What I'd been observing during the next 2 weeks (life cycle of the item) was pretty fascinating. I mean it is a complete mind-twister when you get to see how your own body reacts to various types of food in real time! Within those weeks, I learned about myself more than I thought I'd known my entire life. I ended up watching her YT, buying her book and follow her guidelines. I completely changed my entire nutrition plan and I've never felt myself better. I don't have mood swings anymore during my PMS - all thanks to her book. I didn't have any health issues, but with her advices I got my body and health upgraded to the next level!

I saw Dr Mindy s videos a few weeks ago. I had heard of the 16:8 fasting and had tried doing it, but I now realise that I was not so well informed. After watching several videos, I began to understand the mechanics of the insulin, glucose, ketones, etc...I am not obese but have been overweight about 25 lbs for so long, 20, 30 years, yoyoing up and down, I tried so many different diet solutions, gyms, spas, massages, etc...nothing worked. I started fasting 2 weeks ago doing what Dr Mindy advised. I haven't weighed myself but I can see how the weight is falling off. I ve never been a soda drinker, I m not a person who eats " factory" food, but just understanding how often we eat ( in Spain, you have 5 meals a day!) even if we think its healthy, even if its a Mediterranean diet, you are basically eating all day! I can't believe I am fasting for so many hours!! I saw Dr Mindy had an Achilles Tendon problem and fasting helped cure it. I ve had Plantar Fasicitis a whole year. I will let you know how it works out. Thank you again.

Have you just tried lowering your meal sizes before thinking fasting is magical? Don't misunderstand me, I think fasting is easier since you don't think about food so you're less incline to overeat, but there's nothing magical to it, you're just lowering the chaloric intake and that's how it works.

I'm 56, and this year has been so difficult for me to lose weight. I am a yo -yo dieter...usually doing keto over the winter, then enjoying meals out and drinks in the summer as I live in a holiday town. Each time I do keto, I've lost less weight and this year, I decided to try healthy eating and fasting. Nothing worked. Keto for 7 weeks, lost 2kg and 1.5cn. ate healthy with lots of protein and went to the gym 3 times a week with a training programme and some cardio. Didn't lose a thing. The doctor said my thyroid levels were ok so I gave up and just thought I need to be fat this year and hope whatever's going in in my body, calms down and I can try again
After listening to this, In going to look more into fasting properly and will eat healthy low carb as that has worked best for me in the past. If I see any changes, I'll update this post in a few months as I know there will be other women my age who just feel so deflated, (nit literally, unfortunately 😅) and desperately searching for something that works before going down the Ozempic route.

Why all of a sudden we should eat once a day and spend large amounts of time without eating if 50, 100 years ago you could eat three meals and most people were thin? The real issue is the quality of the food not the depriving of food. Fasting doesn’t work for me because I’m miserable when hungry but thankfully I’m on a healthy weight.

Dr Mindy, I've watched previous videos of yours, tried the fasting, tried the berberine, the metformin each one for months at a time and no change in my weight. I've now started Ozempic. I'm a single mom, dating at my age is terrible to have to compete with these young ones.... However that's not my reason for wanting weight loss, it's for me and my self confidence. I don't fit in my bigger clothes and I'm not buying more clothes. I'm hoping ozempic will help. I was diagnosed with fatty liver and insulin resistance over a year ago. I've gymed with a trainer 4 times a week and that did nothing for my body. So I've tried everything and hence going the ozempic route. My body is just fighting weightloss and also I eat all the time and cannot turn it off. My body doesn't get full. It's my fourth day on Ozempic and I can definitely feel the hunger and snacking have lowered. Yes it's expensive and I have school fees to pay for BUT this is what I'm doing for me. Happy me = happy mom = happy parenting. If anyone wants to just me leave your comment in the trash thanks

One specific thing I still have to figure out is what set up my bad mood/moods swings and how to control it. Of course now I'm starting to deal with new challenges like anxiety.

I did one month of fasting. The traditional one: I ate all food in 8 hours window. My initial purpose was to lose wait. I did not, because I ate my calories. I was not in deficit. But it changed much hunger. Before fasting I woke up and I was already hungry. One month fasting and it solved my issue completely.

When I call it fasting, it triggers old eating disorder.Habits so I call it a digesting period and I allow my body to digest after my last meal and before my next , which is typically twelve to fifteen hours but when I call it digesting , I am far more successful.

I listen to a lot of health/medical podcasts. I'm a medical librarian by profession and if I have one skill down pat, it's being able to identify credible health & medical info over stuff that's.... Less so. I started listening to this podcast with an open mind, but found Mindy Patz to be increasingly unconvincing - especially when the questions veered away from her topic of interest into general health. She was asked what she thought of honey health wise. She had no problem with it and indeed thought of it as a good basic food. The very next question was whether there are "bad" foods or cancer causing foods. The top of her list here is sugar. Great - no one would disagree, except isn't honey basically sugar? Sure it has some trace minerals and bits and bobs, but everything I've ever come across says it's a sugar as much as any other. When she started preaching that people need more protein (and general current thinking on that is that we need LESS than we think we need), I switched off. I was curious as to her credentials. She has a general science degree (so not a medical degree - is she even a Dr. Of any kind?) and she's a chiropractor. Ok so chiropractors are at this point not even considered to be a legitimate evidence based field - whatever you might think, it's currently classified as pseudoscience. Even if it was totally legit, this woman's claim to fame is her work with fasting. As a chiropractor. It's like your dental hygienist being a world expert in fasting. From now on I'm going to listen to podcasts on credible platforms like Zoe Health Report which are run health and medical professionals. I think this host does his listeners a great disservice by presenting guests as "experts" when it's more a case that they're good salespeople out to flog a book or their private practice.

A very interesting podcast. Would be interesting to know what effect exercise has on fasting. For example during a 16 hour fasting window, which includes a 1 hour run mean that this is equivalent to a longer fasting period or would it instead make little make little difference. Many people who are trying to improve their health take part in regular exercise and understanding the impact of this would be useful!

Fasting isn't new! I've been doing it for the last 35 years with favourable results. I was a firm believer in the Tao nutrional doctrine and although this doctrine didn't advocate fasting, there were pointers that helped me formulate my own doctrine. I started experimenting with fasting 18 hours a day and it worked for me so I continued doing it for the rest of my life. However, fasting for health has been around for the last 20 years, at least, so I don't understand why this doctor thinks she made a breakthrough. Has she not heard of the Keto diet and Dr. Berg?

I started ADF (alternate day fasting) a while back and had great results. I lost weight, felt fantastic, and noticed overall health improvements. However, after 4-5 weeks, I started experiencing stomach discomfort, bloating, and indigestion, which progressed to a severe abdominal pain episode that landed me in the ER. They diagnosed me with multiple small gallstones (largest 4mm).
The doctor recommended a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), but I'm truly hesitant about surgery. Since the diagnosis, I've been dedicated to a healthy diet and exercise to improve my health. I still have some weight to lose to reach my ideal BMI and honestly, ADF made me feel amazing. I've heard stories of people managing gallstones without surgery, and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with this.
My questions are: Is there a known link between ADF and developing gallstones? If I want to continue ADF to reach my weight goals, how can I modify it to minimize the risk of further gallstone formation? I would really appreciate any advice from people who have successfully managed gallstones without surgery.

Very few doctors understand the condition of eating disorders. Compulsive overeaters, anorexics and bulimics cannot fast. We have dysfunctional, triggering reactions to and relationships with food that need a recovery program to “normalize” our eating behaviors. After thirty years In such a program I am finally able to combine the wisdom gained from the program and sharing with others who have an eating disorder, I now have the wisdom “under my belt” to be able to be on a keto food plan (we don’t be say “diet” and do intermittent fasting within bounds that are appropriate for me, individually. When it comes to food/eating disorders, “one size does not fit all.”

Some insight as to why people are off Ozempic/Wegovy: insurance stops covering it as soon as your BMI is below 27, and your doctor can’t continue to prescribe it for weight loss anymore. It does work for many people, but they put the weight back on within months of stopping it, yet not enough to get the prescription again. It also is expensive once insurance won’t cover it. Intermittent fasting is much more sustainable, and free.

Ozempic almost killed me. The nausea is horrible. My girlfriend and I tried for several weeks and couldn't take it. We both lost weight, but is it worth it? No, because when you stop, they say you will gain the weight back and more. However, I learned from Ozempic that you don't have to eat a lot to stay healthy, eat healthy and eat slowly, and look at food mentally healthy.
Just look at food differently to save your life. I started with Berberine at 208 pounds and lost 10 pounds over a month. But my doctors, who are helping me with my diabetes, kept telling me to take the Ozempic. So, after 2 years of avoiding the Ozempic, I broke down and took it. I went from 198 to 174.4 pounds. I wish I didn't take the Ozempic. Going back to taking Berberine, adding more movement to my life, eating a healthy meal once a day, and fasting. Yes, my GMD is the best thing that was invested. It helps me monitor my blood sugar in real-time. It helps me see how I respond to different foods.
My AC1 was always over 14+. I brought it down to 8.9. Hopefully, I will have brought it down to 7 or 6, I'll know when I take my August bleed test. If I reach a 5 and keep it there for over a year, I will be declared a non-diabetic. I also started two and a half years ago seeing a mental health therapist and it helped me a lot. Also, I have so many things wrong with me, but since I lost weight and started moving more my nerve pain has lessened, my eyesight has improved, and my brain fog is less.
I might have stopped taking Ozempic, but I refuse to stop eating less and better because I like how I feel now. I am 65, and the picture of me is from 10 years ago, I refuse to go backward. I want to live to enjoy my young grandchildren. When I eat less, like once a day, it allows me to buy more quality organic food. I used to have a refrigerator full of food and now it's only me, so mentally I have to buy less food.
Dr. Mindy Pelz, I will join your social media and buy your book(s) to help me continue my healing journey by embracing food differently. Thank you for being on this podcast.

It sounds good/fine, but it (obviously) doesn't carry much helpful truth it itself. Salt and honey can last on a shelf till the end of time, but they are metabolized in the body in less than an hour.
So, one of the next questions that arises is: so what if it lasts a long time inside the body? So what? Is it "long time in body (probably) = bad"? There's probably an explanation somewhere, and I'm not necessarily sceptical, but it really highlights the reasons I don't like such slogans.

Honey and salt we all know what is, but you buy bread and its supposed to have only 3x ingredients ( flour, water and salt, yeast starter in sourdough is also pure flour and water, nothing else) and yet the one in the shop has 20+ ingredients out of which 15 we don't have a clue. That's the point she was making and the quote summarised it perfectly.

It's annoying how people are like "what's wrong how come you're not drinking, have some pizza" etc., and I notice people who justify it with cultural/religious reasons get a lot mote respect and no further pressure, meanwhile if you just say "I don't eat/drink this" people will try to convince you like you're a loser for refusing.

I did a 5-day water fast and healed a lower back pain that was so debilitating I couldn’t stand for more than 10 minutes at a time and hadn’t exercised in 2 years. I lived on Aleve. I did the fast in February, and I have never had a day of pain since. I started intermittent fasting at the end of January. I have lost over 30 lbs (I started at 154 lbs). I can and do exercise now, my depression is gone and life is finally good again. I’m 67 and feel better than I did at 50. Highly highly recommend the 3-5 day water fast for healing.

I can attest to that! I've done several 3-5 day water/tea/ electrolytes only fasts and I've had healing in my body almost every time. My last fast, within 48 hours I saw an improvement in my frozen shoulder, my reach was 3 inches higher. I broke the fast but did a very strict keto for another 5 days. Then I did another 55-hour water/ electrolyte only fast And I saw more improvement. And then I continued to eat very low carb. So within just a few weeks, my frozen shoulder went from being about 40% healed to about 90% healed. They say it's supposed to take over one year to heal a frozen shoulder, but I did it in just a matter of weeks by fasting! My range of motion is almost back to normal again! Funny thing is, I was fasting to lose weight, I had no idea that it would affect my frozen shoulder. So that was a bonus!

When you do a longer fast like a 3 to 5 day water fast are you also going to work? I would think that it would be hard to do this in a working environment. I often get lightheaded, dizzy, and have zero energy to work out when I’m doing a 24 hour fast, and when I push it beyond that I spend most of the time in bed so I don’t eat when I try and go for a run which I would normally do in my daily life. I feel lightheaded and dizzy, and I reach more coffee, which makes me more tired , but I can push through that exhaustion and force myself to work out and do some strength training. I go to another realm and then all of a sudden I’m not hungry and I’m not dizzy anymore. At the end of the workout, I often feel tired, but for some stupid reason, I always end up breaking my fast at that point so that I can get something to eat and have a good day. The next day is the dumbest thing I end up doing I should just go to bed and extend my fast for the next day, but I’m always thinking I don’t wanna feel lightheaded and dizzy the next day. I’d rather have some food in my system so I can get a good workout in. But, once I break fast and I have my dinner and I go to bed I end up waking up two or three hours later and eating again and going back to bed and then the next day I’m really tired

I live in Europe, i come from eastern Europe. I remember when the pre-packaged hamburger rolls arrived to us when I was a kid, my mum would warn me they could be causing cancer. They tasted weird, like plastic and sugar, so it made sense to me. Sometimes my teenage friends would buy them for a fancy evening dinner. I didn't understand what they are for in US, I couldn't imagine people would actually eat them on a daily basis. They were tasty but clearly didn't taste like actual food, I was worried they would get stuck in my gut, like some foreign object.
When I was 25 I went to Canada for a student exchange and was shocked at how shitty the food was, both in supermarkets and take away. And how hard was it to find fresh food, I felt almost like some weirdo. People were shocked I was looking for a student apartment with a kitchen. For me it was the only way to actually survive.
I've been reading food labels since they started appearing in my country, and I already knew that all the colorful American prepackaged food is full of junk. I never even look at those shelves in our supermarkets. Not that our packaged food is great, but I still believe there's a tendency.
It's so unfair to people who grew up in that reality of processed only food, I think when you grow up like this, you don't realize all this, as it is all you know. I feel so lucky to consider a cucumber picked up from a field a regular thing rather than some "fancy" organic expensive food.
It seems there's some stigmatization or aura of magic/specialness assigned to a desire to eat healthy organic food in US? I think maybe it's nothing special, it's the other way round - it's just that your regular food is junk 🙈 I don't understand how that's even legal tbh. And very sorry for all the people who are tricked into fighting with their weight because of it.
I know many people in Europe don't think about this topic as much as me. Many also buy the American packaged food. I think the more east the more aware people are however. And of course we also have obese people. But I can't imagine not becoming fat if I had to live in Canada longer. I put on 5kg in 3 months while I was there, and lost it as soon as I came back, with no effort. I however developed digestive issues afterwards hmm.. I felt miserable health wise in Canada, and I know it was the food.

My group mate from the university was always small and skinny. One year, she went to the US for summer and she came back FAT. I mean, really. I didn't even recognize her the first time I saw her - I recognized her boyfriend though, and I thought he was cheating on her. And she lost everything she gained there within the next few months, doing nothing special, she just got back to "normal" food.

My husband had difficulties with fasting long hours and wasn’t losing weight. Ozempic helped him “kick start” the weight loss and became accustomed to not eating which led to longer fasting windows and portion control. He lost cravings for sweets during this process. In 3 months he lost 12-15 lb. All these things would have happened without Ozempic, however, it made it easier for his brain to adjust. After 3 months he quit Ozempic because his body allowed him to fast without the irritability and cravings (not to mention cost). 9 months later, he does OMAD 4-5 days a week and the other days he has a 6-7 hour eating window. Best of all he gained control. 9 months later ( without Ozempic), he lost about 25-30 lb and gained muscle. He went from waist size 38” to 34”. Bottom line,,, each person has strengths and weaknesses, do what works to get you to where you need to be. ❤❤❤

While yes different methods may work, I can say with confidence as a 54 yo woman with type 2 diabetes for 44 years (since age 10)...6 small meals worked when I was young for a time but 20 years ago that no longer applied. Over time eating any carbohydrate and yes that includes fruit, eating every few hours will cause insulin resistance. Your body now is producing too much insulin all day long. Eating a carb requires insulin and then your sugar drops necessitating the need to eat once again. Once that cycle is broken by a low carb diet and fasting you are no longer hungry every few hours. It saved my life and got me off all diabetic meds and insulin. No more high cholesterol or high blood pressure. I never count a calorie and I eat until satiated. 4 years of this lifestyle and going strong 😊 115@Blessed1985

I have used this idea in the past. Light lunch at 11am. Light dinner at 6pm. Nothing but water in between. Plus skipped dinners completely on Weds and Sats. Walked 4miles every single day. Dropped 43 lbs in 10 months. It's been 4 years. I have only gained 5lbs over that time. My skin is healthier. I look like 33-35 yrs old when my real age is 54. Literally every parameter is in the healthy range. I feel happier, lighter, and overall the world feels a happier place.
