On the back of the conversation about childhood learning, the books on the shelf and evidence. I suggest taking a look at professor Bruce Lipton and his work. Woo woo and science, it'll have you scratching your head. You'll find answers that for you will raise even more questions but possibly some firm answers. I'm new to his work and generally as far from woo woo as possible 🤪
Consistency is perhaps the most important factor. Unfortunately it’s difficult for many to maintain a schedule. The best way I’ve found is to find a routine you love and can keep doing until you die
Felt like the conversation got derailed when they started to get deep. But then i realized i have been watching Mike for years but never actually knew anything about the guy. Came away with more appreciation for the man. Nice.
I had a motorcycle accident at 81 years old. I've always been jacked and in good shape. I was in bed for 3 months with a broken leg broken arm dislocated arm. Recovery has been painfully slow. But I am recovering. So it's possible to gain muscle mass in your '80s I was inspiring to hear that my recovery could be as much as 10x because I've always been in good shape. Great podcast thank you.
I was like finally a podcaster to get to Dr. Mike’s deeper personality; everyone harps on the fitness content that he repeats ad nauseum, finally someone asked the probing follow up question to why he got big (even if longtime viewers could surmise the reason).
Ugh I actually didn’t like that part of the video. Dr. Mike was obviously trying to deflect those questions and dude persisted with them. It was uncomfortable to watch.
Wow! This was an incredible interview. I went from bed ridden and 250 lbs at age 40, to a tight, fit, 118 lbs within a few years. It completely changed my life! Major co-morbidities were completely reversed, not to mention I kicked the depression/anxiety cycle. I’m just geeking out!
Well done, my wife did the same, it’s fantastic watching how happy she is now, her mother died 4 years ago at 72 because of her obesity, at the time my 5’10” 42 year old wife was 25 stones, it was a wake-up call, she got down to 11 stone in 12 months and has maintained it, totally life changing 👍👍👍
I'm very proud that I confronted my bully while still in school. He constantly would try to trip me, he peed on my shoe in the bathroom once, and he would say gross things about what he wanted to do with my girlfriend if we were in the same bathroom (went on for 3 years progressively), and one day he said something while I was walking with her and I got in his face and pushed him into the wall cussing him out - Teachers intervened quickly. Turned out as with most bullies he only felt confident bullying if the victim didn't fight back. Nobody ever messed with me or said anything again after that and got away with it. I'm thankful for those experiences.
Before listening to Mike, I was broke, unfit and depressed. Since getting back into gym my life changed. Discipline rubbed off into my whole life. I'm now back on my feet in every way so thank you big man
@@Karrllsonit sounds like it but it’s really not. Getting your discipline up and getting yourself moving in the gym changes your life. Hitting the gym 6 times a week literally changed my life. I’m happier and making more money with more social life than I’ve had in a long time. It’s a life changing thing and Mike helped a lot with getting back in the gym
@@nornornornor9204awesome brother. Thank you for sharing! What kind of work do you do to keep up 6x gym work? I have a genetic disorder that makes activity slightly harder for me, but exercise is hard for everyone so I’m not looking to make excuses. I’m training bjj 2-3 a week and that exhausts me but I’d love to hit some weights in between. Cheers bro, thanks again for sharing and best of luck.
The last 30 minutes, just relating as a human, defusing boundaries; that’s what made me subscribe. No jokes or prejudices - purely heart to heart in allowing each-other to be open in the most vulnerable way. Two very very accomplished people talking about their drive/drag to success in the context of so much trauma - vulnerable men. Brilliant. Honesty and authenticity connects in a way that most social defies. Keep it up. This is a masterclass in both interviewing and being interviewed - know your shit and be true to yourself. Dr Mike; super informed, and someone to grab a beer with (if it meets cal in cal out)
Opened comments to write the same. Absolutely agree. It was such a heartwarming experience to listen to them, glad I'm not alone who found this worth mentioning
PLEASE, please bring him back and have the body dysmorphia. That is such an important conversation. TY for this extremely candid and educational conversation
If by "being clear, smooth and to the point" You mean sounding like a politician who uses a lot of big words to say absolutely nothing then spot on. Don't do drugs kids.
@@Don_WinchesterBro wth do drugs have to do with this? Nearly everything Dr. Mike says is completely digestible; even for someone not familiar with the fitness industry. If you're having trouble grasping what he's saying or don't have the attention span.. That's a you problem.
I think it was cut, go to 45:50, "what should I put in my mouth", then there is a cut and mike talks calmly, I am guessing there are some outtakes there 😂😂
Dr. Mike has been my fav person on YT for a while now. Honestly, weightlifting 3x a week for 45 minutes has completely changed my life. I feel so much better mentally and physically. I have my bikini body back with the muscles I had lost at my desk job.
I haven't yet gotten into bikini shape. But I have been on a journey partially thanks to dr. Mike. I have been losing about 1kg per month since January made by step by step small dietary choices and gym training. I introduced a change once every month. I am in the best shape of my life since being in teens (currently headed into the second part of my 30s).
I’ve been working out for 11 years from home, using dumbbells. I graduated slowly to adding things like bands and exercise ball and eventually bought myself a bench. Controlling my macro nutrition has been the key factor in building more muscle and changing my body composition as I continue to age through phases like perimenopause.
The bit about bullying really hit home. The feelings that can be stirred up from decades past is crazy. To actually answer with what I believe is raw truth like that publicly is very brave. I’d just like to say, be kind to people. You never know how you can impact someone’s life for better or worse.
I really feel for Mike. He’s endured childhood trauma, and every time he’s triggered by a similar situation, he relives those overwhelming feelings of fear, powerlessness, and domination. When this happens, he often turns to overcompensation and aggression as a way to cope. Many trauma and abuse survivors experience this, and it’s a common symptom of Complex PTSD. Therapy can be incredibly helpful for those who struggle with this, allowing them to start a healing journey. Starting mine was one of the best decisions I ever made.
He’s so right about the comment section not being representative. I watch dr Mike religiously, all the things he says works for me, have never left a comment on any of his videos 😂
@@michellemercado9038it's probably just analytics because a very large percentage of channels have low single digits female viewers, and fitness channels tend to be overrepresented by men, I wouldn't be surprised if his female viewership is below 3-5% and he jokes about it being lower.
Not to mention he’s really entertaining to watch. Love how he balances light heartedness and can throw in jokes and not take himself too seriously yet still be very factual.
I am really impressed by DR Mike's unapologetic honesty and comfort with his contradictions. His self-awareness and ability to compensate for weaknesses is very impressive.
Seeing him in the thumbnail, I 100% expected his personality to be more tough love/strict. What an absolutely sweet and delightful human being 🥹 **** Edit: Yes I realize he swears and has a dark sense of humor. You can be sweet and delightful and still say “fuck” 😌
Well, except the bit where he talks about wanting to voulently cripple people who barely even wronged in 30 years ago... I've been truly bullied due to being physically disabled. I know what it's like to be told I'll never walk normally again. His response to others is absurdly disproportional and disrespectful. The only blessing is that he's self aware of that. Otherwise, he'd be in prison by now.
Sharing a personal unforgettable memory first to build that trust, then inviting Dr Michael to do the same with such vulnerability is incredible to watch. Top notch interviewing skills Steven as always!
I really loved this episode. I've been binge listening to these since I discovered them a week or so ago to make work more interesting. But I really loved the openness of Dr Mike and how much he engaged with the questions and asked steven questions. Definitely one of my favourite episodes so far
Im 36 got into excerising late i started at 33? 34 so its been almost 3 years. I use to be the laziest and skinny after breaking up my ex i decided to start going to gym. It saved my life. Im not longer angry, i dont stress as much, i feel better. I work 50-60hrs and i go 3-4 days for at least 45 mins to 2 hours. Love it.
💯 I was gyming while I was single and now even though I’m in my relationship it’s still a big part of my lifestyle. It’s a good way to deal with stress and depression for me that is. My bf jokes that I need home hobbies cause he said gym is more lifestyle but to me it’s also a hobby
@@d-rex6846 I mean hes not wrong, when I get the flu I am bored to death cause I’m not doing much but lying there and whining. Its not like I could go workout and those times are the best time to rest
I never thought I'd say this well used phrase. But, I really did need this today. I go in and out of deep depression and have health issues mentally. This stops be from being consistent. I lost 7 stones in weight when my then wife was diagnosed with cancer. I got in great shape for my age after muscle memory from doing it when young. I woke at 56 years old thinking I'm done. I'm finished. Been going gym less because I resigned myself to almost give in. I'm a grandad of 5 and dad of 2 adults. I need to keep pushing forward. This all made sense to me. Im so glad I come across this realistic approach to training and health by a guy who genuinely seems to know his stuff. Thank you. 👍
@c0llym0re That's kind mate 👍 No we all crumble now and then. I can't give up. My children and grandchildren keep me going. Thank you for kindness. There's not too much left. And wherever you are and whatever you do in life I wish you all the best.
Listening to this interview i realized the amount of engagement he has in the interview how much i really love this guy. I like his content and everything but its his personal charisma with his voice that communicates his place in life and man is it voluminous!
Preach!! I’ve lost 120lbs and went from Hypertension Lvl 2 to normal blood pressure. AHR of 64bpm to 45bpm. My sciatic nerve pains gone. Fourth nerve palsy causing diplopia vision concerns have dissipated. Cialis is no longer needed either. Now I started this process with Bariatric surgery. However, I now have control over my appetite and also work out daily for about a hour because it’s fun and not out of fear or survival.
My husband introduced me to Dr Mike and I introduced him to DOAC. This enjoyable interview was such a delight to watch. Thank you both for the work you do! Steven and Dr Mike, you are both awesome!! Thank you for sharing your personal stories and for being so open and genuine. Lots of love from Singapore!!! ❤
I was on my twenties when I beginn to do some exercise, and my mindset those days was: I need to do something for myself! Do something only for you and because of you. Now I'm on my forties and I'm really happy I took that choice.
many of the comments below rightly praising Dr Mike for his ability to communicate simply, intelligently and eloquently on what is essentially a masiive rabbit hole but I couldn't help thinking about brilliantly Bartlett steered the conversation, taking his guest into some fairly uncomfortable places whilst remaining respectful and attentive throughout. His ability to go through the gears (acting dumb at the beginning 'so what's a set?' for example) to allow the expert to take over was a masterclass in how to interview someone. He really has become the gold standard in this format.
3 years ago I was bullied at work by a group of people, mostly women. It changed me forever. Funny I was never bullied as a kid, people were mean to me at high school and college sure, but it never really bothered me. This one hit differently. I will not rest until I am the best at anything I do. I never had a drive like that before in my life. I've also been going to gym 5 x per week, second year now. Dr Mike has been with me all along on Social Media, I've learned a lot from him
Do it for yourself primarily. The most you'll get in response from the people you're currently doing it all for is a lame "Cool, congrats." However, the small results you start seeing over time is a much more consistent driving force than remembering how some people used to say nasty things at some point in time. Good luck, friend!
@wiehanboshoff9093 It's always wild to me how people get motivated from negative people. But at least they are channeling their emotions into something positive.
Good for u, bro! Keep it up. I was bullied as a kid bc i had skinny legs. It made me decide i wanted tree trunks as legs. Now i have an ass that girls like to grab and strong legs 😊
I'm so happy this conversation happened! Dr. Mike is keeping me consistent and motivated with his channel. After 5 weeks, I'm already losing my flat mom butt, I'm noticeably stronger, and I'm feeling amazing 💪 Follow this guy, he's super entertaining as well as smart
Really appreciated the honesty and willingness to be so transparent from both the guest and host. One of the best podcasts I have seen. I follow Dr. Mike and RP but the conversation was so unexpected and insightful. Thank you both.
Dr. Mike delivers. He and the RP team have helped me undo 40+ years of misconceptions and bad habits in my diet and training. I wish I found him when I was 15 years old - he would’ve saved me years of unnecessary health struggles. But I’ll take the new lease I have on life right now as a consolation. Seeing him on this podcast gave me so much joy. Dr. Mike - kudos and respect to you!
I’m 44, male and trained inconstantly over the past decades with minimal results. After I found Mike’s channel I started again training in the gym ~ 6mo ago. A few weeks back to owner of the gym congratulated me for my results. I put in practice Mike’s teachings, 4x week ~ 90min/workout. Gained ~4kg of lean mass and ~ 3kg of fat. The ratio could be better I know, but at my age, I’m proud. My work colleagues, started asking me if I was “juicing”, I consider it a compliment!
Congrats man, it's all about that consistency. I'm in a similar boat, just slightly younger and only been training 'hard' for the past 5 weeks following a combo of Mike and Milo's (wolf coaching) channels - but already noticing the differences. Looking forward to those juicing compliments in a few months!
@@theearthwillshake8706You can do it! Try to aim for 3RIR with good form in each set. I’m using the free version of the Strong App to help me check my progress. I eat 4 to 5 meals per day with ~40grams of protein each. I used Cronometer to give me some awareness of the macros, now I don’t need anymore (except for mini cuts).
The idea of long-term muscle memory is profound for many who are exercising but have anxiety about what happens when holidays or a stressful work week comes around and you can't get to the gym.
Muscle memory is a godsend for folks who suffer with IBD, you regain the muscle super fast. The only downside is you have to endure the initial spike in DOMS :)
“I accomplished a lot, but I don’t feel like I have.” I know that story so well, and the reality is I’ve come through things I cannot even speak of in order to write these words, but when you’re faced with certain death, you act; you don’t have time to marvel at how amazing you are. Be inspired.
Wow... Mind blown. This is one of the best videos I have seen in my entire life. The interview by the interviewer and the interviewee are at a sublime level of skill and honesty. BRAVO!!!!!
Long story short, I’m 53. RP and Dr. Mike are directly responsible for me achieving my goal to lift as much weight as when I played high school football.
I have eating disorders and Adhd. Ive lost fat and got a safe weight loss. I train mostly to feel better about myself. I love my gym so much. It helps me to take better care of myself. 😍 😍 😍
What an episode! I did not know Dr Michael Israetel, but man, he's SO POWERFUL to say and express that (you can say) dark psychotic side of a human. The questions were amazing, it takes to another level of undetstanding behavior. Thanks so much for this kind of contribution to humanity.
The part where Dr. Michael expresses those somewhat bitter feelings about his childhood experience decades ago took some real vulnerability to share that. I have met many people who have expressed many deep emotions that they rarely express and I believe that is special. What a real human being unafraid of his own conscience. I think it's important to verbalize those thoughts/feelings. This was a great interview filled with useful helpful information. Truly, an experience!
Holy crap, I did not think I would be crying near the end of this video. I'm 40 years old and Its crazy how much I can relate to Dr Mike's experience in school and how he thinks about it now. Thank you Dr Mike for sharing with us!
I have followed Mike Israeltel for years and he is the real deal. Sometimes he can come across as a little patronizing and arrogant but he really knows his stuff. Great interview.
I love how Steven brings all of his guests no matter of the topic they are here to talk about to a place where they are comfortable to talk about some childhood traumas or troubles in their younger years or a bit of family history puts all of it into perspective. It's so much easier to relate to everyone and understand their choices and why they became the people they are today. Mike is a great person, I recently started to watch podcasts where he is the guest and his own videos as well. people like him teaches us not to judge a book by it's cover
What an incredibly open, intelligent, honest, human being. I'm not interested in body building, I don't go to the gym and I'm not overweight but this interview was fascinating.
Doc Mike is absolutely unique. He's an outstanding Lifter/Bodybuilder, a full PhD in Exercise Physiology/Sports Science, and he's as honest as the Day is long. The Resistance Training community is very fortunate to have a Leader like him!
I know you are not an interviewer by profession. But you may be the best interviewer on earth. You ask all possible questions in all possible angles in a way that after the interview is finished, all questions your audience would have wanted to have asked, would have been asked by you. And you let them answer that question. Many podcasters ask one question and as the guest answers and gets deeper they already interrupting with another non-related question.
I should not even be surprised, but even after MANY hours of Dr. Mike videos and interviews I have watched, this is incomprehensibly the best. Steve, you are special.
To get through your older days with ease, it is necessary to be in a fairly good shape. I am 72 and still flying up the hills and driving my motorbikes almost every day! No health issues at all. Started years ago to work out once a week after watching the sorrow state of all the "old folks" around! Lol! Now I have no clue I am "old" as I feel so damn well!
Came here for the Dr Israetel interview, stayed for the awesome/thoughtful questions by Steven. Multimillion subscriber podcaster, and I have never heard of him. What a great find.
I followed this guy on his UA-cam channel Renaissance periodization. I love this guy. He’s one of the most mentally free people in the way he expresses himself verbally ever heard. I’m an analytical cat so probably I’m gonna respond to much of his content. But he’s so humble and smart and funny, it sounds ironic, but it says if he doesn’t care what anybody thinks about him. He’s extremely compassionate and if you’ve ever seen him train somebody extremely demanding and meticulously attentive. Every time I see him on UA-cam like I wanna have a beer with this guy.
I thought Michael was just another one of those fitness shallow-head so-called influencer, but I must admit and I'm glad I made that mistake in judgement. This conversation was exactly what I needed to go back to the gym and fitness after almost a year and a shoulder injury. Great stuff! Cheers
Ya I had the same impression when I first saw him in an interview, but I think he was on higher levels of steroids at that time, because everything I have seen him in recently he's a different person. I'm a huge fan now and I have learned so much from him.
I totally have gym anxiety, not only I have no idea what I should do, what I should use, I am also super weak cause I have never lift or consistently do any sort of exercise. This year I finally resorted to hire a PT on short-term and brave myself against my social anxiety to go to the gym. All because I want my brain to keep working properly, cause i feel that the lack of strength is slowly affecting my ability to think clearly or to learn new things, especially because I'm exhausted all the time. Thanks for giving me confidence
Dude no one cares. Judgemental assholes judge because they feel bad about themselves. That’s probably 1/100 people in the gym. The rest are proud of the others showing up and improving themselves 💪🏻
I have been watching Mike's UA-cam channel for a couple of months now. I started a new fitness journey when I turned 60 and was looking for credible information that would impact my health and wellness. Not only is Mike a funny and likable guy but his knowledge on fitness, muscle growth, and longevity are some of them most useful and fact-based videos out there. While a lot of people look to him for getting huge gains, a large portion of the information he gives is useful across the age and fitness spectrum. As someone who has consumed a lot of videos in the fitness UA-cam space I can honestly say that his channel has been one of the most impactful to me. Just a guy looking to get in better shape in my golden years.
Didn't expect to cry about bullying and certainly did not expect to want to hug and console a young Dr Mike when I clicked on this video. Amazing amount of information and incredibly heartfelt stuff
Thank you for the fantastic Conversation! I listen to the entire thing, and I learned quite a bit, both about Fitness and nutrition, but also about Mike. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been listening to Dr. Mike for over a year now, and have probably exhausted every single video on his channel, and all of his interviews to the point where I can almost say what he’s going to say verbatim as he’s speaking usually. But this interview was uniquely raw, informative, and really fantastic to hear. Thanks to both for doing this.
This is comforting news. I workout areas 2 to 3 times per week. Whenever I get sick, or vacation and I’m down for a week+, I always feel like Im regressing. That’s never really the case because I feel stronger than ever after not doing anything for 9 or 10 days. If Im ever injured for a few weeks to month, this helps me understand I’ll get back into it like nothing.
I didn't know anything about Dr Mike and didn't plan to watch this episode. But after stumbling upon a clip from it, I was hooked. Very informative and deep conversation! Thank you both!
‼️ HOLY DANG! You two guys - This discussion, this one right here, will stand for a very long time - to compliment the brutal honesty, unfettered language of emotionally complicated mentality of so many relatable humanistic experiences that get twisted together as we live thru our lives. It's relevant today, yesterday & tomorrow. I love insights on health, muscle & kinesiology. But beyond that, this conversation speaks to so many of us about our gutteral selves... Both Steve & Dr. Mike Israetel must be commended for the open human honesty you've both shared with all of us herein, helping us (me at least) to recognize on many things we've all desired & needed to think on. Thank you.
This is one of the greatest interviews that has been on any platform. This was incredibly insightful. Truly appreciate you both for making this dialogue possible. God Bless.
Steven is such a good therapist, loved your approach to diving into Mike’s soul and also opening up about your insecurities and hinting at where Mike normally would never go. So profound and deep. Pleasure to see him in a different light. I myself was always wondering that there must be something deeper to wanna be so jacked so badly. Respect to both.
I'm 42 and let myself go during the pando (about 10kg overweight). I turned it around, 3 times a week in gym, eating 500 deficit for 6 months. I am feeling much better after 9 months (down to 17% body fat and more muscle) and will continue going. Building muscle is a slower process than I remember, but could be due to being over 40. It's still worth it though as it improves mood most of the time.
I just became a new subscriber to this channel because of this interview! Now I'm looking for Dr. Mike's channel to subscribe to! The most transparent/ honest body building discussion I've ever heard. Telling the real truth about this industry can and will save lives!!! Thank you so much!
When Steven asked him, why were you bullied and he paused and said for no reason, I literally started sobbing. I’ve never been bullied, but I have asked the question in my head. Why did that person get bullied? I will never ask that question again. Thank you again my favorite podcast of all time. truly, I’ve listened to the doctor and two podcasts only and you seriously brought out the best in him❤❤
Love Steven's interview style he literally asked every question I had listening to this. And always does in his interviews. love how you know your audience and what we want to know 😊
What moved me most about listening to this incredibly enlightening conversation (Me being immensely dedicated to my preference of maintaining physical fitness and emotional well-being through being a Yin Yoga Teacher/Therapist and following a more Holistic TCM and Ayurvedic type of lifestyle, I thought it would be highly unlikely this doctor would inspire me with his health advice...I digress) I was so moved by his obviously big heart and relaxed attitude. He is incredibly intelligent, and I learned some things I didn't expect would be very helpful to me. All that being said, my favorite part was at 1:25:53-1:28:00 . His honesty right here moved me to tears. Not sure why the tears, but I believe what he said about his thoughts are true for EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING. Including myself. Most will never admit it. Many won't act on them. Many will and do. But this is a very human thing, and EVERYONE makes a decision how they choose to respond to these feelings. I do truly believe he would rather just give everyone a hug instead. And, at the core of most humans, whether they show it or even know it or not, would probably feel much better with a hug as well. I definitely would.❤ Thank you for posting this awesome video.
Same here. When I was a beginner I watched hundreds of hours of Athlean-X and Greg Doucette... Now I don't trust those two as far as I could throw them
"OMG...YES!!" was my reaction to seeing the thumbnail for this podcast. I had no idea he was going to be a guest on DOAC. Dr Mike is AMAZING!! And hilarious AF 😂
Menopause affects this retraining bit. I tried for years to get back into shape after menopause and wasn't even sure I was a candidate for HRT, but once I was back on it, I got strong so fast. I'm almost back to using the weights I used in high school.
The beautiful thing about working out weather male or female is it’s 100% beneficial no matter the mental state YOU are in and that state doesn’t matter if you’re a male or female. Physical or mental, I don’t include emotional because we are all 100% in charge of our emotional state but the other two it doesn’t matter what state you are in you can work out and you actually should workout, menopause or male testosterone decline doesn’t matter hit the gym, go for walks, buy weights for the home no matter the shape you’re in if and when you start to workout your body will love it. Lotta people have weak minds, low Self esteem they don’t hold themselves accountable they have every excuse in the book ☝️☝️☝️☝️😬😬 why they can’t or stopped going. That’s all BS, our body’s are designed to be challenged it’s when we are the happiest mentally physically and all the other words that end in lly 😂. If you have a broken arm you have another arm you also have legs you can work there’s always something you can do,,,,, it’s your state of mind that defeats you not your condition,,,,,, excuses is the biggest dream and goal killer in the gym I’ve seen it my whole workout life the last 32 years, I’m 46 look like I’m in my mid thirties and am in pretty good shape, my friends I used to hang with are dying due to their drug and alcahol use and they look way older than they are I’m glad I stayed on track,,, my Final thought is people are their own worst enemy when working out it’s not a hobby it’s not a team sport it’s not group inspired it’s where you meet you and go up against yourself and you have to beat yourself mentally because your mind is telling you no but your heart is saying yes and most people (mostly women) listen to the no and remain in easy street and wonder why nothing changes. Change requires change dedication and consistency equals results,,,,, you don’t need much but you need to do to begin with, simply just do. Any challenges to the body it learns and adapts and builds up for the next session. I’ve seen 70 plus year olds (men) I’ve seen people with one leg one dude I know only has one hand seen a female in a wheel chair and workout her full body and when I see this I have great admiration for them, what I hate is or the type of people who go to the gym for attention and validation that includes both women and men that’s I can’t stand,,,,, menopause, illness, physical challenges doesn’t matter you can workout and it will benefit you. You just need to be mentally tougher than your condition
@@marc2638 I see your commitment to excellence and applaud it. I've never given up on working out, but without HRT I was not recovering. What I didn't know is that HRT in perimenopause and after is that the hormones help soft tissue adapt and recover from stress. Without HRT I was suffering injury after injury. The most recent injury was a soft tissue injury in my left hip which continued unhealed and unabated for 9-10 months. I tried everything I could think of and I can think of a whole lot, before I tried HRT. Within two months of taking the hormones that injury healed. We all have our issues. A little understanding and compassion go a long way. It's not about having a weak mind. Pushing through an injury can result in further damage. Judgment and condemnation can be bitter and generally helps no one.
@@marc2638Are you going to mansplain women how they should feel during menopause? As if it is a situation you ever lived or ever researched. FIY It affects both your physical and mental state. Some have it really really bad. She said she had to do HRT to feel like herself = Hormone replacement therapy. And you are here on a long monologue dropping emojis all over the place like an MLM mom. Are you a bot ?
@@msch7620 Agree. That is called toxic positivity. Perimenopause and menopause can be really bad and there is still not enough research and education to educate women on this deeply upsetting change. Weightlifting is important, though, for this time period, but the rapid hormonal decline for women after menopause makes it just so much harder to gain muscles mass than before when estrogen was produced by the body. Estrogen is such an important hormone for women, for bones, brain, muscles, mood, ... you name it. For everything.
Something I find interesting is how this guy talks pretty fast but expressed himself clearly. I've been working out daily lately and I've personally noticed I think faster which is awesome. Feels like a mental upgrade. He said that working out makes you smarter and if you think about how it increases blood flow and makes your body work more efficiently it makes sense that also applies to your brain. It's also the best thing I've found for depression and restoring vitality as I approach 40 years of age. Even just 50 calf raises a day as I watch some tv helps elevate my mood the following day I have noticed. You can improve your Life, go for it, you won't regret it!!!!
@@rockoyheadit’s cringe because dr Mike is uncomfortable and you can feel it through the screen. Nothing wrong with those questions though but generally if we watch someone be uncomfortable we also feel uncomfortable

Felt like the conversation got derailed when they started to get deep. But then i realized i have been watching Mike for years but never actually knew anything about the guy. Came away with more appreciation for the man. Nice.
That was the best part!
I lost interest there... fast forwarded till end

Starting mine was one of the best decisions I ever made.

many of the comments below rightly praising Dr Mike for his ability to communicate simply, intelligently and eloquently on what is essentially a masiive rabbit hole but I couldn't help thinking about brilliantly Bartlett steered the conversation, taking his guest into some fairly uncomfortable places whilst remaining respectful and attentive throughout.
This is one of BEST UA-cam videos that I have ever listened to. I listen to MANY a day. Top 20 guys, thanks for your honesty and candor.
Mike Israetel on a podcast. Instant like. Guy provides such good useful, easy to understand information.
Nice one!

I just became a new subscriber to this channel because of this interview! Now I'm looking for Dr. Mike's channel to subscribe to! The most transparent/ honest body building discussion I've ever heard. Telling the real truth about this industry can and will save lives!!! Thank you so much!
www.youtube.com/@RenaissancePeriodization is his channel
When Steven asked him, why were you bullied and he paused and said for no reason, I literally started sobbing. I’ve never been bullied, but I have asked the question in my head. Why did that person get bullied? I will never ask that question again.
Thank you again my favorite podcast of all time. truly, I’ve listened to the doctor and two podcasts only and you seriously brought out the best in him❤❤
How come you are inviting all of the people I follow here in UA-cam 😅 That's amazing! Love that podcast!
The last 30 minutes of this video were so captivating. I applaud these men for their open and honest responses!!
I definitely would.❤
Thank you for posting this awesome video.
Dr Mike and Jeff Nippard are the only two youtubers I trust on this subject
Agree!
And layne Norton!
there are plenty of good ones, but honestly since ive found mike and jeff, i kinda just slowly stopped watching the others hehe
Sean Nalewanyj is awesome as well, particularly for a more “casual”/simple approach. But all 3 are incredible.
Lotta people have weak minds, low
Self esteem they don’t hold themselves accountable they have every excuse in the book ☝️☝️☝️☝️😬😬 why they can’t or stopped going. That’s all BS, our body’s are designed to be challenged it’s when we are the happiest mentally physically and all the other words that end in lly 😂.
If you have a broken arm you have another arm you also have legs you can work there’s always something you can do,,,,, it’s your state of mind that defeats you not your condition,,,,,, excuses is the biggest dream and goal killer in the gym I’ve seen it my whole workout life the last 32 years, I’m 46 look like I’m in my mid thirties and am in pretty good shape, my friends I used to hang with are dying due to their drug and alcahol use and they look way older than they are I’m glad I stayed on track,,, my
Final thought is people are their own worst enemy when working out it’s not a hobby it’s not a team sport it’s not group inspired it’s where you meet you and go up against yourself and you have to beat yourself mentally because your mind is telling you no but your heart is saying yes and most people (mostly women) listen to the no and remain in easy street and wonder why nothing changes.
@cyndiwunder YOU are HOT😊
This is quite literally the best dude to interview. He's incredible.
There’s nothing wrong/weird about neither. Just two men being vulnerable. Beautiful show of manhood, power and strenght. I just admire you guys!
it is cringe to watch that's me being truthful not bad.
@@rockoyheadit’s cringe because dr Mike is uncomfortable and you can feel it through the screen. Nothing wrong with those questions though but generally if we watch someone be uncomfortable we also feel uncomfortable
