    I own the Triumph Trophy SE the transmission is clunky too. The valve adjustment 32K service was almost $2000 Canadian Dollars. But for Interstate riding these bikes are in a league of their own. My bike is all packed in the garage leaving Alberta Canada for Montana/Idaho and Washington trip now the kids are all back in school !!! Ride safe everyone....

    I have one Bruce. It’s just over a year old now. Done 10,000 miles on it and she is a class bike. The phone lead is purchasable from BMW and is almost necessary as any other I’ve tried is either too long or not 90 degrees into phone. As you would expect, the BMW lead is £40!!! I travelled a loop to Nordkapp and back down Finland for a month in June and she’s so well weather protected, most of the time I had riding jeans and mesh jacket on.

    Totally agree with your review, I have a GT and a Goldwing and they are as different as you described. But I bought them because of the differences. Both are planted, low COG, each fun in its own way, etc. Thanks

      Here, exactly the same. It's rare to read honest comments of these bikes. Everyone try always to put one better than the other, but they're just different with no comparing.
      The goldwing is like a Mercedes Classe E (great comfort) and the K16 is like a BMW M5 (very sporty).

    Good review. I also test rode a Goldwing, and in the area that I live, there are lots of technical roads. I found the Goldwing's handling to be less capable than the K16GT on tight windy roads. The Goldwing was scraping its pegs and just felt noticeably less athletic and slower to respond to input. I also preferred the K16GT's engine, it is much more engaging and more thrilling to ride. The Golding bags are smaller as well, which was another deciding factor. I think if I was traveling mostly on interstate roads I might have considered the Goldwing, but for anyone wanting a better handling and accelerating touring bike, the K16GT is the king.

    Hi big man, DIN stands for Deutsche Industrie Norm which translates to something linke German Industrial Standard. And of course, being a german bike produced by germans, about everything has an industrial standard, a DIN :) Actually most ( actually I can noit find an exception ) EN, European industrial standards, were taken from the DIN. You may remember the EU standarizing the Bananas a few years ago, that was actually already done in the DIN as well.... actually it was supposed to standaraize the riping process of green Bananas. So, as always, we Germans need to have a regulation and a standard for everything ! :) Nice vid, I really had some fun.

    • @chadkline4268
      @chadkline4268 Рік тому +2

      I think that is good, to be praised. Corporate industries/products should be regulated well. But the govt has no business creating standards for adults as to what they can do with their own bodies, minds. An individual ought to be able to create or perform in any way on their own without any regulation at all (as long as they are not using force, fraud or deceit to harm others). Corporations are the creations of govt, and govt has a duty to ensure their operations function in accord to various specifications+standards.

    Nice review. I had the pleasure of attending a BMW DEMO Day this weekend and tested S 1000 RR, S 1000 XR and R 1250 RT. And couldn’t agree more on the RR quick shifter. That is super smooth. Months ago I also tested the K1600 B. Coming from an RS, it was weird starting the K1600 as there’s just about zero vibration. When riding it, my first thought was I was riding on a cloud or perhaps a Star Wars speeder bike. As for the seat, it is most likely a similar construction as my RS. It too is comfortable, but around the 90 min mark my arse and back would start hurting. I replaced it with a Sargent seat and that changed the riding experience big time. I can now ride 2 hours without any butt or back issues.

    I had that bike for a day too. I really enjoyed it. I loved the silky smooth engine. I agree about the pegs - and after the day's riding, I felt that I'd need highway pegs on the engine bars (but I'd need to get the GTL with the topbox as it gets the slightly more protruding engine bars to mount the pegs to). If I had the money, and was after a tourer, I gladly throw my money at one.

    I was contemplating one of these last year as the wife was talking about going pillion on some rides. I test rode one of these and a Goldwing. For me, the K1600 was miles better than the Goldwing purely because of the engine. There wasn't enough excitement with the Goldwing, whereas the K1600 has a fantastic sound and much more power. Both are huge barges though and I decided against buying one because I would be riding without a pillion for 95% of the time and I still want something a bit more nimble.

    Had a 2020 model GTLE for 3 years. The engine is sublime but I found the leg position quite difficult to sort. Ended up with lowered pegs and larger screen. Great handling bike until I was too up and fully laden trying to do a U turn on a bad road when I got lost. Even with reverse I struggled to manoeuvre it and became a nervous wreck. In my 3 years I never used the radio once.
    I’ve now gone back to the R1250rt the forth I’ve had as this suits my style a little better. But enjoyed the K1600 when I had it. Boy could it go. Doesn’t the phone charge in the holder automatically, it does on the RT

    I bought my K1600GT back in March after coming off a 2018 Goldwing. The GW is built for putting on some serious miles. Not so much with the GT. The ride is miserable after 30-40 minutes in the saddle. I bought lowering foot pegs, bar risers, and added a Russell Day Long seat just to make the ride bearable. Joints ache, etc. I'm probably going to trade it in for a GSA. Other than that bike is fine. Little gear clunky at lower speeds, but decent HP.

    I love mine and it annoys me in equal measure. Got a 2022 Sport GT after an S1000rr and GS. It’s an i’n incredible bike but not all things to all people. The phone socket for charging is not obvious but come out at right angles from the front face… a standard iphone cable fits. Took mine to the IOM this May and had a real blast. It’s a great bike but you are right you need a day or two to understand the big beast.

    The riding position on the GT is exactly the same as on the RT and seems too flexed in the knees only if you just came off a GS. When using it daily you get used to it real quick. I (187 cm) ride mine on my 112km highway commute with no discomfort.

    Great review Bruce, i think that valve clearance service would put me off with the miles that i do on my bike, however if you're a low miles rider it might not bother you, but i like the servicing costs of the GSA, far more reasonable, for comparison i just paid out £510 inc vat for the valve service which included front brake pad replacement, at a BMW Main dealership. so much cheaper than the big k, i'd get 3 valve services for the price of the K's one ! food for thought.... cheers for an honest, as usual, review... The K1600 is getting my attention more and more. I drive a GsA and I love it. It makes me, an average driver feel like an advanced driver. If I can’t control myself any longer I would seriously look at the Bagger version.
    Question, is that a quad lock on your steering bar? Ps, the GsA does have a usb-a connector. Just don’t put any AliEx connectors in it 🫣 you are a mobile tv studio with all your camera gear, drone and all! Cheers

    Great review. I had a 1600 GT for 3 years and have subsequently had 4, K1600 GTLE's they really are not the same bike at all. You very much sit on the GT and in the GTL and I find the GTL far more comfortable for big mileage. Not sure if you have ridden the GTL against the Goldwing but the GT is not (IMHO) the direct comparison. I have tried the Honda and was very happy to get back to my bike as it seemed very underpowered although beautifully made and well finished.

Even though I love BMW's I'm with you for the Goldwing holding the crown in that category of bike. By the way I can tell you I'm a good few years older than you at 66 years old, and the moaning and negativity is a age thing and I'm afraid it will only get worse. I took an RT out about 4 months ago, didn't get on with it. The dealership, knowing I was coming from an 1300 Pan, offered me a ride on the brand new K16 demo... about 20 miles later I rode back too them with a "yes, I'll take one of those!"
    It should be noted, that the machine you rode doesn't have a stock screen on it - the stock is slightly lower, and you don't get the back pressure. Mine has developed a fault (that I won't detail here because it's probably not fair). It's in warranty, so I'm sure it'll be fine.
    There's a USSB C socket hiding behind the TFT in the dash (with a little airconditioned pocket to keep your phone in). The socket is on the front edge, near where your phone screen was.
    Road softens the throttle and the suspension (makes it nicer on the ol' posterior), Rain simply kills the bike but it primes the electronic aids so you can get away with greasy roads better. But in Road or Dynamic, it just does everything you ask of it and replies "Yes sir, would sir like some more speed with that?"

    • @redtela
      @redtela Рік тому +2

      Re the alarm - the '23 does come with datatool tracker AND factory fitted alarm & mobiliser. You can also disable the beeps from the alarm, and being keyless, the only sign it's there is the red light on the dash.
      Re servicing, the service plan makes sense ;)

    Hello Bruce,
    Are you considering a long term review of your GSA ?
    With the mileage and at three years old this would make for an interesting review.
    If so would you include such aspects as warranty work and the cost of servicing as well as pillion comfort ( l know you don't take pillions though)
    I am looking at a GSA at present for a long term bike and most reviews are test rides or six months ownership.
    Something for the winter months perhaps.
    Enjoy your channel particularly the adventure up here in Scotland.

    I have the GT after two RT. Like the bike for many of the reasons in the review , smooth , quick enough just more refined than RT box wise for example. But it takes practice and planning at junctions and parking . I got it because while I loved the RT when loaded it was almost unmanageable parking / reversing without reverse gear facility. Overall I suppose I’d prefer the lighter RT for every day but the K16 for longer trips ….. the weight at my age going forward is starting to nag and thinking of RT again but a 1250 with a 1300 on the slipway may not be depreciation sensible and no signs of reverse for the new RT?
    The other thing is buying a K16 is easy but trading it in very difficult from my initial enquiries there’s a lot of “ooh it’s really difficult nobody wants them “ talk so beware you can get to the top of the tree touring wise and suddenly find there’s no way down 😮

    Hi. I enjoy your channel. I have a K1600GT. I was cracking up about your comment on rain mode. So true lol. I keep mine in the heathen devil worshipping sin dynamic mode all the time. I find the the throttle response is better from stop.. no stalling. Be safe

  • @pielight7449
    @pielight7449 9 місяців тому +1

    Another very good review.
    Now I seem to remember that the 2019 didn't 'tickle your danglies' whereas the 2023 was 'bollock tingling' in dynamic mode! 😂 Could it be that you didn't use dynamic on the 2019? 🤔 - I can atest that my 2019 is pretty tingly danglies inducing?!
    Can't say Ive ever noticed the first gear selection thing on my 2019. One point of observation for the benefit of potential buyers is I average 53-54 mpg making similar progress as yourself in the video. When I fill up the range generally shows circa 278 miles (as opposed to the 220 miles you had showing in the video). This is almost certainly down to my using a lot more of the engines flexibility to be in much higher gears than you were using (never labouring the engine though - I change down if more than 20-25% ish throttle needed to maintain speed). I realise that you probably used much lower gears for the great engine sound and to feel/ demo its eagerness coming out of turns etc for the purpose of the review and I only mention this so potential buyers are aware of the amazing economy for the size of these things if driven with that in mind...and that's without sacrificing very brisk progress at all.
    You can also inhibit the alarm in settings - manual mode requires you to set it with the button on the key fob, so if you don't press it doesn't set and no bleeps etc.
    I also think that the phone compartment charges your phone wirelessly?
    Also to note is that the 18k, 36k, etc services include valve checks and is just under £800 (as of may 2023) and a lot can be saved with a service plan (I got a 5 year one for £1150) and have already had the clearances done as part of the 18k service. Dealers don't seem to promote this deal, I saw it on the motorrad website.
    Keep the vids coming. 👍🏼

    They're 'beautifully balanced' at low speeds with new tyres. Once the front tyre starts to triangulate, as it's a heavy bike and the tyre is dual compound and wears fast on its sides, that slow speed balance is compromised badly with road irregularities. It becomes hard work especially when filtering. You really have to think about your parking as well. Nose in on a sloping kerb and without reverse you'll probably need some help

After touring the peaks,pennines & Lake District on it I came to the conclusion that it couldn't decide whether it was a sport bike or a tourer and so was really neither. It’s definitely not for me Bruce. I’m struggling to see where the benefit might be over an RT for me or even an RS. Too big, too heavy and what is it with bmw that they don’t seem to be able to sort bike ergo properly. Unacceptable at the price and annoying.
    A bike like this should not have high pegs and not swept back. If I had to have a big tourer it would be either the RT or the Goldwing dct. Honda have nailed it with that bike.
    For me, the killer is a bike has to be able to be used to enjoy the tight twisties when destination is arrived at or there’s no point to it. The other killer for me besides ergo issues is service and running costs. I’ll be sticking with the big boxer for now.

    Loved it when tried it last year. Need to try it with Mrs on the rear seat. Loved the overall smoothness and that engine is a beast 🤩 Did not like the clunky sound of the quickshifter (although very smooth). Also, feel the same as you about the footpegs, especially since I have the ball of my feet on them (accentuating the bend in the knees). For the weight, pretty agile bike, although the tractor with its huge wide bar, is much easier to swing from one side to the other, and like you say, at some point, you have to engage yourself (which the GSA doesn’t need).
    I was pretty surprised by the comfort : thought it would be much more on the firm side, but for my skinny 🍑, it was ok.
