Great video! My daughter and I rode much of your route in 2022 on a rented BMW. I was so taken by the bike that I bought a black K1600GT when we returned, so our trip ended up costing a lot more than I expected. Ha! We stayed in Rothenburg and found the town to be incredibly fun and interesting.
Thanks very much! That’s really cool that you rode the sand route, it’s a really nice part of Germany to tour. Haha that did turn out to be an expensive trip 😁 It’s really good when you can test a bike for a longer period (don’t really see how people can make a decision with a 30 min test ride) Yeah Rothenburg is a lovely little town and has stayed the sane fir many years. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy our channel. Cheers Sean and Emily seanandemilytravels.com
I am currently considering a K1600 as my (bigger than me) 17 year old son wants to join me up in the Highlands of Scotland in June this year. My biggest concern is the weight of the machine, not so much at traffic lights etc but more on the nadgery little back roads that exist up there. Any feedback would be welcomed...
I bought a new ‘23 GT last November, toured Europe in May and I am headed back over in a couple of weeks…..having ridden most in my 40 plus years of riding my thoughts are that this is THE best sport touring motorcycle out there…..btw -I bought the top box also 👍🏻
Congratulations on the new bike! Thanks for commenting -that's really a testament to how good this bike if with all your riding experience you feel this is the nest sports tourer out there. Good thinking on the Top box -i think Emily would have liked this bike a lot more if it had had one. Where in Europe are you heading next? Kind regards Sean and Emily
Sounds great! We went to the Picos at the start of the season (it hit -2 the first night of camping lol ). Yeah the weather is a bit unpredictable at the moment but fingers crossed it works out for you! Have a great trip!! Here's where we camped: ua-cam.com/video/ZgHhuh58O1o/v-deo.html
Wowsers…that brought back memories for me, Rothenburg hasn’t changed in 40 yrs! Stayed in a really beautiful youth hostel back in ‘79, then moved on to Schwäbisch Hall another gorgeous town…oh and enjoyed the bike too, they always look super comfy from a pillions point of view, but I’m with you Emily, I do like a top box for that added security.
Hi! That's awesome! It's so great when places don't change and it's really cool that you were there in 79! -on Saturday we will post the City Tour of Rothenburg so that might bring back a few more fond memories =). It was a super bike and yeah i think it would even better with the Top Box! Nice to hear from you and catch you again soon. S&E
Personally (having ridden a GSA for many years so very familiar with it) i find the GSA a lot more nimble in the tight turns -probably due to it's wheel base, but on the fast sweeping bend the K1600 is completely planted! As for the wind blast i would say that the K1600 offered better wind protection -especially at higher speeds (but being 6'2'' my head tends to be above the wind shield anyway. I hope that helps and you enjoy the rest of the channel. Cheers Sean and Emily
I own a May 2022 GT with 5000 miles on the clock now. My gearbox clatters really badly, so much so I can feel it through the handlebars. I couldn’t hear it on your video, it sounded very quiet. I have 5 BMW bikes (GS1250, R1250R, R18 and R100S) but the gearbox on the GT is so noisy and clatters so bad. They say it’s normal but the one you were on sounded great. What were your thoughts? Cheers. Ian.
Hi Ian, that doesn’t sound right 🤔 My own bike is the R1250 and yeah that can sound a little clunky at times but the first thing I noticed about the K1600 is how smooth the gearbox is. Can you somehow arrange a test ride by another dealer to do a comparison?
@@SeanandEmily Hi Sean. Thanks for the reply. She is going in for annual service in a few weeks. I will get them to have another look at it. I love riding in Germany the towns and villages are beautiful, you’re right about the suspension I found it rather harsh, shame you don’t have the backrest Em, but as usual you find some nice food and beer 😂 enjoyed our ride as usual , Graham L
Hi Graham, Yeah Germany has so many beautiful small villages with fun little roads connecting them. Yeah the backrest would have been nice but it was okay for a long weekend. No shortage of good Beer in this region =) Thanks very much Graham and glad to take you along =)
Everyone thats ridden the K1600 seems to love the engine, your not the only ones to have mentioned about the firm suspension. Have you tested the new RT if so which do you prefer? Btw my wife wouldn't tour with me without a topbox.
Hi, yeah that engine is something else!! It's feels so solid and incredibly smooth! I guess the setup is for sporty touring and in the corners the firm suspension feels great -i think we are just used to the dynamic suspension on the GS. No we haven't actually tested the RT but we will do at some point, i think the RT must be a lovely touring bike too with all the characteristics of the Boxer engine. I don't blame her, Emily was okay for a long weekend without one but any longer and a top Box is essential for a pillion. Kind regards Sean and Emily

You should have the bike‘s functionalities explained by the BMW experts before hitting the road: the phone stores inside it’s dedicated slot just below the screen on the top end of the dashboard incl. USB charging and ventilation functionality 😉
You are probably right, we had to pick it up outside of office hours but for sure that would have helped. I wasn't sure if it came as standard, I google it and could see where it should have been (or maybe where it actually was) but didn't want to force anything. If it has then perfect! Awesome bike though - do you own one yourself? Cheers
@@SeanandEmilyGot ya! I’m Lucky enough to own a ˋ22 GT 😎 and riding different generations of the K16 for almost 10 years. The phone „holder“ does come standard with the bike since the connection between the TFT and the BMW Connected Ride App is crucial to have the full infotainment experience on the TFT models (RT, R18 B/TC & K16) - as you guys also experienced 😉 as Emily mentioned, the topcase is a game changer for the pillion, as it is on most bikes. Having said that, the GTL would have probably been the even more appropriate ride if you’re riding two up. Also you need to do a few adjustments to make the K „your“ perfect ride (larger screen, making sure to have the right seat height, etc.) For sure the GS feels comfier (19“ front wheel, increased suspension travel, different suspension setup and 70 kg (!) less curb weight compared to the GSA) BUT the smoothness and the output of the Inline-6 are second to none 🤙🏼 Keep up your format and ride safe✌🏼
