    One of the better re-interpretations of this 1979 song... Bowie's vocal is gymnastic & clear in the mix... Bowie great in the 90's!!!

    Still. Love. This. Track. Honestly. Every time he brought it out on tour, it just got hairier and nastier and so [insert expletive here] sexy it defies description. I grew up through that era, and it still resonates with me like it was yesterday. Miss you, Papa Ziggy.

    At 2:30 he asks to increase volume of his mic or of the sound on his ears. It's not the light.

    • @GoDamnWeird
      @GoDamnWeird 4 роки тому +5

      He was after more vocal in the monitors, cause the band hooked in harder at that point. Front of house was perfect, no doubt.

    • @NormenHansen
      @NormenHansen 3 роки тому +1

      @@GoDamnWeird Yep, this song is the perfect opener - a band always plays different with the audience in front of them so theres always things to tweak during the first few songs. Notice how he grabs his in-ear belt pack right after the first few words, probably to turn up the volume. The mix for the TV was probably done in a van by the audio engineer of the TV station, which is (still) common in german public TV.

    @bengt167
    Personally, I greatly admire Gabrels, eclectic, rich of imagination, free of musical preconceptions, perhaps the best improviser after Hendrix, certainly one of the "guitar-hero" of the 21st century.
    Also, I think it's also a great man, with that dignified humility of the authentic artists; even likeable, with his sly air, composed and sweet, a nice contrast which puts more emphasis on the power of his sound.
    Bowie, well ... IS Bowie.
    Many thanks.

    One of my favorite Bowie songs. It must have been tremendously exciting to have been at the concert. I must admit, however, I prefer Bowie's vocals as originally expressed on the video\album version of the track, especially the "You KNOW who I am," he said, the way he hits that "know", which I think is one of the most awesome ways to begin a song in all of rock and roll. In this version thought, Bowie is affecting some strange nasal accent, like maybe he's trying to sound like an Americanized Johnny Rotten, or something... maybe it was a parody that would have been obvious in 1996?

    • @ladycharlesmusic
      @ladycharlesmusic Рік тому

      He signals to the sound person to turn up his mic part way through, so it's possible he couldn't hear himself well at the start and that affected his vocals

    Thank you, Tracy.
    This song touches me deeply. Every time I look it, I ask me how does David to sing in this upsetting way what himself has conceived, so far from the suggested topics, with an open vision, far-sighted. Probably because he had known very well them, had transcended them. It's not glacial distance, but compassionate, spiritual.
    This Death's Angel so expected, this anger in looking back ... an anguished human time, softened by Light strokes featured in Bowie's poetry.

    You know who iam he said
    The speaker was an angel
    He coughed and shook his crumpled wings closed his eyes and moved his lips
    This time we should be going
    Waiting so long I've been waiting so long
    Chorus
    Look back in anger
    Driven by the night
    Till you come
    No one seemed to hear him so he leafed through a magazine and yawned he rubbed the sleep away very sane he seemed to me
    Waiting so long I've been waiting so long
    Chorus
    Look back in anger
    Feel it in my voice
    Till you come
    Waiting so long, now........
    Waiting so long I've been waiting so waiting so .......

    Oh babe.....I was SUCH A BIG FAN till I get 12 years old....We had to move to Berlin (from Western Germany) ....and everything I knew was this fu***ng film and the music....
    My destiny was, that I looked like the actress (Nadja Brunckhorst)...and that my brain was filled up with this Heroin-stuff....
    I wanna talk to Bowie, since I was 12; may be he could rehab me.
    By the way....: All the BEST from Berlin-Schöneberg!

    Very shareable. But some nuances, which were further refined in process of one great experience and perfectly in line with the temperament of Bowie who had always tended to treat every infinitesimal detail (and, of course, for the undeniable talent), I have appreciated his performance also in recent times.

    I always believed he was referring to Iggy Pop. New values has a song named ‘Angel’ to which I think this song is a response to. Particularly as Bowie is painting himself as an angel. And the lyric of ‘Angel’ seems to fit very perfectly with the relationship they shared, and I don’t mean necessarily in a gay way.

    I don’t think this is a good rendition. Especially the drums are far off the greatness of the original. The original is mad, quirky and driven, this version is a boring stomper. I guess the 90s demanded this. Still, I love Bowie and always will.

    I'd say as a performer, Bowie was at his peak in the 1970s. This is great, none the less. He's just being more artistic, in my opinion, later on in his years and less of a performer, which is why people drove away from his music. They want to dance and go nuts over his music than enjoy it as something artistic, like what they do with lady gaga's music.
