David Bowie - Station To Station (Christiane F ) 1980 - new edit, remastered HD

- You may already be familiar with this clip from the 1981 film 'Christiane F', but this version is a new extended edit (more Bowie, less drugged up teenagers) and has a new improved soundtrack in an attempt to make a more self contained, stand alone version.
In the film, this scene shows the main character of the film, Christiane, attending a 70's Bowie concert in Berlin with her friends. In reality Bowie filmed his part on a set in New York in 1980 , miming to an edited version of 'Station to Station' from the 'Stage' album. (At the time, he was appearing on Broadway in 'The Elephant Man' and couldn't fly to Berlin for filming).
In the movie, the performance footage then was edited with crowd scenes from an AC/DC stadium concert. The scene was intercut with plot elements consisting of teenagers smoking drugs and popping pills. One of the teenagers is then shown having a bad time of it sitting with his head in his hands with a contorted face.
All of this is fine in the context of the film. But I wanted to remove these distracting plot elements and make a video which would serve as a stand alone performance video as much as possible. To this end, I've re-edited the video to replace the drug taking scenes with more Bowie performance shots. (I've also removed a brief wide shot of AC/DC on stage which was in the original edit).
The soundtrack of the film version overdubs the song with a lot of newly added crowd noise. Again, fine for the film, but it sounds excessive when viewed as a stand alone video. So I've replaced it with the 2005 remastered version of the song from 'Stage'.
In the film the song fades off into the next scene. Here I've extended it and given it an actual ending.
I hope you like it.
Christiane F said in her book of Bowie 'he was my hero, he was everybody's hero', he still is to a lot of people.
A drug hero.
Are drugs that bad
@@iammrbadguy9706 The one she was taking was, it was killing all of her friends.

I will forever play Bowies vids!!!
You know what? Our planet was just cooler when Bowie was on it. His music lives forever.
no wonder everything went to shit after he died
Bro Watch the movie and you won’t find his fans cool any more

The most amazing voice, the looks of a model, the extraordinary ability to play any instrument, record producer, actor, fashion icon, short film artist, performance artist, painter, songwriter. ICON.
Despite having all of these he was very down to earth and humble.
This!
Heroinomane cocaïnomane it’s a survivor before all ,after he ’s an icon,a real star i like him he ’s the star of 20 century nobodies can stop him but the law of the final point, it’s the final law for every life on earth the gate to another reality
You forgot ‘Mime’
He was born to be on that stage

I do agree with you...

He and Freddy Now Josh.
Hard to believe he ever existed. He's so amazing.
I bought this album at a garage sale when I was 12. Good taste in music is my superpower.
No arguments here, I was still listening to Bon Jovi at 12
Hope you continued to by his albums not just on the cheap🇬🇧
The way he holds the microphone has more grace and dignity than most people have together in their whole existence
what he does with the mic is finger porn, honestly. So sensual.
He was so histrionic don’t forget he was also an actor
*mime
@@no_categories sure he was a fan of that kind of entertainment but if you can tell weather or not he is actually miming whilst filming this part of Christian F, i am not certain, still ?i have just to keep on searching. oh with what to believe in' still pick up a glass and then lift it just a little higher.
My God, how can be so charming? He´s like a vision, a daydream, a delirium
Sorry, but I have no words to discribe this epic live performance. I just can say: Bowie thank you to be part of my life.
I honestly miss him so much.
He died two days after his birthday, and left us with a wonderful album as a parting gift.
He had a unique vision of both life and death, a different perspective that we desperately need these hard days.
I hope your rest is peaceful David, we all miss you.
He shares his Birthday with Elvis and My Wife the 8th Jan , only a month or so before he passed my wife sung Hero's at our Works Christmas party She can sing . Especially in Germany this Song as a special and emotional meaning to many because of Bowie living in Berlin at the time of the Wall and the East West tension. some people were crying singing along. Though we live in Hamburg this Song alone as become tied to the reunification and all those who struggled and died trying to escape from the East to the west. For me as someone from the UK I witnessed this for the first time the deep meaning and impact Bowie left in Germany after his time spent recording Low and Heroes there.
We had only also not to long before visited the Bowie exhibition in Berlin with all is stage and video outfits and art instruments and out Bowie related items.
I even have the limited Black book signed by Bowie himself a present from my Wife on my 50th Birthday on the 20 th Jan 2016 only two weeks after his passing a very somber present at the time from the end of 2015 with Lemmy's passing through 2016 starting with Bowie the rest of the year we lost so many greats including Prince that year was painful. It is like they knew things were going to get much worse and just checked out ASAP. Though I believe Bowie already knew when he was going to die. Having been told decades before by a fortune teller if legend is to be believed. Still he left a void that can never be filled for sure.
I am in love with this version of Station to Station
And it's not the side effects of cocaine.
Swixen maybe a little but hay raise your glass high
I'm too
Ver y Cool i love. H i m!!!!!
So am I, cause it's just epic. Bowie, Carlos Alomar, Station to Station. All the guys in the band were playing like rock'n'roll gods and Bowie performing as a god above all gods. Supreme. It's to late to be hateful...
Well, Tarantino said that this is the best concert movie scene in history. Quentin, you are right.
and this scene was filmed the 9th december of 1980 ...
shows what a great actor Dave was, too.
Where did he say that?
Tarantino is a mocker, and this is not true! Not because of Bowie, but because of the direction. Look at the people next to the stage. Have nothing to do with a concert. The crowd is soooo fake, very fake acting. Would be pretty much better put true fans of Bowie, not background actors.
@ This edit is worse than original. The original cut has a feeling of a true concert.
hardly.
He walks in like a total icon, self assured and not deluded. He is and always will be iconic and one of the most important figures in musical and cultural history of the 20th century
One of my favourite Bowie songs, it's so unique and has such an eerie vibe to it. Love it.
I agree! It threw me for a loop at the first listen. It kept pulling me through different feelings: nostalgia, liveliness and sadness over and over...brings me to tears.
Quand j'entends les premières notes de cette chanson....
The power of David Bowie. A black hole of awesomeness.
I've lost the count of how many times I've seen this video. I constantly daydream about going to his concerts and being as close to him as Christine was in this film.
Paula Pirela Galvis ...and the book. Damn good!!
Come on
That's pretty much where I was standing--two nights in a row.
When i see Bowie on stage he always takes me to a journey with him. I was lucky enough to see him 9!! times when he was still alive, and his "Thin White Duke" period is the one i can most identify with. I guess for him personally he was his hardest. To look like an superarrogant human being was never his intention, but his inner conflict made him. He had no choice. "Station to Station" is one of his absolute masterpieces, like "Blackstar". Both written in his most difficult situations in life.
jemen1709 ::: nice insight. I relate to Station to Station bc I was introduced to BOWIE during this time of his relatve art. Thanks for THIS VERSION !!!
Station to Station is just epic. I love its intro, very very experimental, as we only expect from a genius as Bowie.
Thin white duke was his strongest personal struggle and he takes that frustration out on stage, you can feel he’s speaking to himself.
His hardest man VS man battles were done in this time/persona.
The passion that fans sensationalize is serious dedication to his art.
As an artist you try and expel everything from yourself, as your feeling it.
The passion of David here, just imagine what was going on in his head.
(Ps check his interviews after the last Ziggy tours, he expresses himself modestly as “a collector”, his strength brought us his greatest productions but he sacrificed his own vulnerabilities.)
Just a great human being.
happy i saw him once too :)
I wish i could’ve seen him before he died 😢 your so lucky
my goodness, was there anybody more sexy, talented, charming, charismatic, badass, sweet, and gorgeous as David Bowie? excellent song, excellent singing, excellent stage presence...it just doesn't get any better than this guy. in my heart forever, David. ❤
Falco
Well said totally agree 100 percent
Yep. And you'd never know that he spent much of his life in hell due to mental health issues & drug abuse. How he pulled it all off and gave us such phenomenal music is almost beyond belief. He always looked so in control, confident, and gave off such a good vibe. So uplifting under duress. A true hero (pun intended) ♥
Sempre Bowie 👍 station to station capolavoro Inferno 🖤
Falco ist vielleicht 10% von David Bowie
It will be a long time before we see anybody like Bowie- if ever again. He was as great as any artist in history. He was like an Impressionist in his iconoclastic spirit. Always one step ahead
One of the best songs of all time

Love him, love him, love him. That voice. It doesn't get much better. I love so many of his songs. Beautiful, talented, musical genius. ❤️
I spent my young teen years (83-86?) Overly obsessively obsessed with David Bowie, owning every record, book, poster, tshirt and watching every movie (including the ma'Man who sold the world', or is that man who fell to earth... that had a naked full frontal..) . I knew no one else who thought this way. NOW I AM LOOKING AT THIS OLD VIDEO, with a whole lot of people in agreement, and I feel all OK about it now😊
I clearly had EXCELLENT TASTE.
Thanks for the upload.
He's so beautiful it hurts to look at him and know i can never have him
Yesss, he's so handsome and so fck...cool: i guess he must be looking just as some kind of god...
I understand you 'cause that's the same that i feel: since my teenage years i want him so bad that it hurts me!
Same here. Haha it's so sad
Sorry for being 1 year late but same mate, I REALLY REAALLY wanted to have met him, and be his friend idk, I would treat him like a dolly
well I know one person who doesn't think he is not even pretty and intelligent and welp, THAT PERSON IS DEAD TO ME... David was like so gooood, and he has a thing that makes everyone miss him even though we haven't met him personally. I have no words when he come through my mind, so great, truly a hero, I LOVEE DAVID ROBERT JONES aka DAVID BOWIE MAN JAJA
Same! He is have a exotic beauty!

This man made this amazing music while dealing with a serious cocaine addiction that almost killed him. I was thought David was working hard to fight the fear of mental illness. I read his brother was institutionalized. This is my favorite song of his.
David's half Brother Terry was schizophrenic, David loved him and would visit him often.
Coolest man that ever lived!
Bowie and Bryan Ferry. Two of the coolest!
One of Bowies best songs and fits so well into the movie, Christine F. Fantastic It will always be.
Having attended two Bowie concerts in the late 70s, the edit you've made gives the closest thing I've ever seen to the real experience.
wow.Did u attend Isolar 1?
It is in the movie!
@@sallyangelworks9047 Isolar II - the Stage tour.
It was from a ACDC concert. The close up of Bowie was filmed in a studio
John Lennon was a big fan of David Bowie, the Bowie song FAME is written by Bowie/Lennon. That says enough for a long time Beatles fan like me, I adore David Bowie and his songs. The Christiane Felscherinow movie is awesome, also her real story is very sad until today. Greetings from Germany.
Lennon didn't just help write Fame he sung on it and played piano as he did for David's cover of Lennon's Across the Universe, he also talked Bowie into going down the route of Young Americans album.
The quality!!!!!!!! Omg he's so beautiful I love whoever remastered and uploaded this
I just said in my drunkness out loud. SHIT this is good quality!!
i got to see this beautiful scene in all of it's remastered glory on the big screen a few years ago in brooklyn.. took it to a whole new level of amazing.

That was gorgeous! A joy to watch. Thanks so much.
The moment i saw Christiane pull out one of his records in the movie, i believe it was Changes, i knew there was something special about him. Fell in love with his soul and his art within a few hours, we still had to hunt for CD’s through actual stores back then. Bought this book, got a bunch of his singles and that’s how it all started, it’s been over twenty years now, unconditional love, what a life changing experience..
I get chills every time he walks on that stage...
it is amazing. Love that most people actually have not a clue how this was put together. Masterpiece
Bowie actually sings live but this is not a live performance. We all know that ;)

I’ve been listening to Bowie ever since I was teenager 💞
How lucky are we to have all these wonderful films and videos of him?
I don't know if I can explain this well but I will try. Watching this scene makes me emotional. I haven't seen this film, so obviously when I watch this scene it's totally out of context and thus there is the possibility that I'm projecting, but when I see the girl (I'm assuming she's the titular character of the movie) approach the stage and watch David Bowie perform, I see this awe one her face, and listening to this song and watching it I feel like I am transported to that moment, and that she is me, standing there in awe of him, because even from here in 2016 that is how I feel about him. It feels like he is singing straight to her - straight to me. I feel this when I listen to other recordings of his songs but this scene seems to encompass the feeling well. I feel like he is singing to me, singing about feelings and thoughts that I have had (minus the drugs in my case) , and I feel a kinship and a safety there, like he understands me and knows and will always be there for me. I am overcome with emotion and I'm sorry if I sound totally nuts - I'm not sure I have quite the right words to describe how I feel so I hope this suffices. And I mean, other than all that complicated stuff I just tried to explain above, this scene does provide a nice surrogate to seeing him live, which I will never be able to do.
MewWolf5 I saw the movie before I knew about Bowie. It's the movie that reflects tje late 70ies early 80ies the best. A must see not feel good movie.
Fabien H Yeah, I know it's about drugs so I know it wouldn't be the easiest film to watch.
MewWolf5 you made me cry gurl
Lazy Bastard Sorry about that!
I have actually just seen the movie. You happened to post your comment right before I was about to finally get around to watching it, haha. I don't know if she looks numb, but definitely overwhelmed, I think. The girl who plays Christiane in the film was very good, I thought.
Even though the lyrics are as disjointed as Bowie was at the time of writing them, eating little and snorting coke awake for days, it's amazing to me that he not only survived that time but thrived. Station to station is about stations of the cross, a lot of religious elements eastern and western. One amazing song, album, artist.
That's one lucky microphone.

After some research I have found that I saw this tour the same year as Christiane F. did in 1976 !!! I lived in Evansville Indiana. where I went to see The Station to Station Tour !!!!
The version of the song heard here was from the 1978 tour and first appeared in full length on the live album "Stage." (That version, incidentally, was actually the product of splicing together parts of the song from two different performances on that tour.)
I remember finding this movie on video back in the mid 80s and making my entire family watch it...my parents, too. Funny enough, they sat through the entire thing and were all into it. Can you imagine - family movie night featuring "Christiane F?" LOL!
Yes. Takes a really cool family :) Some strong messages for the kids in this movie. Much more eye opening to the realities of life than 'Shrek' thats for sure!
@@marcswadel Agreed! LOL! But, honestly, I grew up in a conservative Catholic family, so, can't believe my parents watched this. I feel like seeing that movie scared me from ever entertaining trying heroin.

Thanks for having uploaded this.
What can you say. He was brilliant.
Bowie was cool. Still is cool.. I saw him live in Sacramento back in the ..early 90s, I guess it was. I was very close to the stage and could see backstage as well, off to the left. At some point in the concert, he went offstage and was hotboxing a cig, with the smoke circling around his face. He even looked cool doing that! Just having a smoke! He wasn't in front of anyone, he wasn't being watched. But every move he made, even offstage, was polished and smooth. I guess if everything you do, every word you speak, and every movement is watched and critiqued by the world, you get to know what is cool and what isn't. He definitely had the rock star persona down pat!
He had multiple personae down pat.👨🚀🚀👽⚡🎭🕸🎷🎹🎸🕴👨🎨👨🎤🎤⚰👼

I saw him in Sacramento in '91 or so must've been thr same show. He had Adrian Belew on guitar and played all the hits. Definitely one of the best shows Ive seen
One biography mentions he studied actors, and adopted certain mannerisms to project the Star image accordingly. Focused on that from a young age.

he's so pretty and so talented and so nice and so great and so creative like SIR WHO GAVE U THE RIGHTS TO BE THIS PERFECT 🤨😭
Wonderful to see and hear this, an astonishing performance by David Bowie in an incredible, deeply harrowing film with a powerful anti-drugs message. The look on Brunckhorst's face at 3.30 is tragic: Bowie's repeated line "it's too late" records the precise moment her character's (Christianes F's) childhood dies and her innocence is lost forever. Two landmark performances from a landmark movie.
it's wonderful. thank you. I miss David.
