My mom's best friend told her I was going through a phase.

I never had a "coming out" as a metalhead.
Every one just learned about it over time
I never 'came out'. It just happened. Like the metal.
I tell 99% of people I meet that im a metalhead and I have been one since I was like 3ish when my Grandfather started to play it in the car or on TV when I was at my Grandparents house and since then we have been to over a dozen concerts and are still planning on going to more
People kinda just assumed that based on the shirts I wear. Though the other half of my shirts are anime shirts. Speaking of which, I'm wearing Shuichi Saihara right now.
I just started telling my parents about bands and songs I was discovering and asked for merch and a guitar and concert tickets and they got it

Redneck Metalhead same here when I first met my high school friends all they listened to was country so I forced them all to listen to death's Sound of Perseverence album, they said it's just about murder and death. but overtime I showed them more and more heavy bands until they grew to like even the heaviest of bands (I'm talking of course about cannible corpse).

Like, I work at this music venue, so I can go to concerts for free. A while ago Cancer Bats were performing, so naturally I went to see them. I met this girl I work with at the coat check, and she literally says to me: I didn't know you were into this kind of music. You always seem so cheerful!
Now now, it's wrong to stereotype. Just because they have tatts, pierces and gauges doesn't mean they're into metal. I like metal and i don't have any of these.

Day Man I have to agree with you on this, I'm a Christian ( not trying to press my views on you guys ) and when people find out I like metal, *Heavy through Symphonic Black* they look horrified and usually get upset or disgusted with me. Even if the band is Christian and the lyrics are about God and I show them ( Grave Declaration is a good example ) the lyrics to a song they still say it's "satanic" "devils music" "scremo" etc.
I understand how it feels to be judged for something as dumb as music taste.

+-T-X-M- my brother likes some metal, he was going to take me to see slayer or slipknot but my parents said no.
+-T-X-M- it not like my parents are mean my mom took me to see the foo fighters and various other bands. It's mostly the money if my brother where to take me to slipknot on a 2 day trip it would be around $500 which I pretty expensive for a concert and 1 night in a hotel. They won't take me to slayer because of a 21 and up age limit. My parents take me to see all kinds of awesome hardcore punk bands.

My dad was the person who got me into metal. He grew up listening to Metallica, megadeth, slayer, pantera, Iron Maiden, all the good shit. It’s what I’m growing up on too. That and stone sour, slip knot, five finger death punch, Hellyeah, devour the day, disturbed, nothing more (I never really knew if nothing more is heavy metal, but I’ll still list it).
