spottedstar1123 The Rap/Rock fusion used to be awesome as hell with tracks like RUN DMC/Areosmith "walk this way" & Public Enemy/Anthrax "Bring the Nose" Attila is like a crazy mash-up of Rap & Speedcore, I think they seriously need to work on the flow of the track, & clarity of the sound.
Considering they are Rap (& metal) degratory lyrics are to be expected. When it comes to their metal sound, personally it sounds unorganized, lack of timing, & in general sloppy.
I'm 51 and my parents said the same stuff. My favorite: "NO, you cannot go to the Ozzy show. Yep I went through that in my teenage years when I got into metal. lol The world was over when I got into Metallica, Megadeth, etc.... I was raised in a Christian home as well. My beliefs in God and my faith has not changed. As I still pray every day before I go to bed. And I still listen to rock and metal. I just stay away from ones that are too evil. lol
I was raised on a lot of hard rock and just old school stuff in general, but I discovered and loved Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and many other bands. But as for death metal? Nope, I can't get into that. Too much garbled screaming for me and the lyrics are WAY too edgy.
I had a very cool grandmother, bless her soul! She actually could enjoy and understand metal music and make intelligent comments about what I was listening to. She liked all kinds of technically well executed music that contained real emotions.

I think something like Archspire's vocals as well as many others are a lot harder to do than sing. Also in terms of effort and performing, Screaming or more of growls and gutturals are more exasperating and take more energy than singing.
Its the other way around for me. Am actually kinda scared to try screaming because of all the shit I hear about people going mute. (which idk if it can actuall happen)
Yare293 That's only if you are screaming like an idiot and just yelling. If you are doing it proper (which isn't hard at all and self explanatory) it isn't going to effect you. Only make your throat, vocal chords, lungs, etc stronger. The only time I hear this happen is with metalcore artists who for the most part are teenage boys who have no music knowledge whatsoever and do their own thing.

Personally, I really dislike a lot of the heavier side of metal, (screaming, groaning, loud and obnoxious guitars and drums) just because it isn't exactly to my taste anymore. But, I also don't hate on or put down people who do like it, because I can put myself in their shoes and see the value in that kind of music. Same goes for every genre, in every style of music! My dad liked Motley Crüe Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Sabbath, Dio, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, and then a bunch of 80’s New Wave Alternative groups like Oingo Boingo, The Cure, Depeche Mode, etc. keep in mind he is a 5’5” Hawaiian/Filipino guy who literally a human version of Taz from the looney toons. Thank you Mom and Dad for putting me on this journey.

my mom is more of a rocker but she appreciates metal and she kinda likes it. my dad hates screaming and groaning vocal songs and very bassy instrumentals (he's into more clean sounding melodies, like Green Day, he loves them), but he loves metal and rock and we always keep blasting our car headphones with Marilyn Manson, Korn, Metallica and more metal and rock artists. I'm glad they don't listen to any greek or American pop or tradiotional music garbage. ^.^ \m/

Yep I went through that in my teenage years when I got into metal. lol The world was over when I got into Metallica, Megadeth, etc.... I was raised in a Christian home as well. My beliefs in God and my faith has not changed. As I still pray every day before I go to bed. And I still listen to rock and metal. I just stay away from ones that are too evil. lol
I was raised on a lot of hard rock and just old school stuff in general, but I discovered and loved Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and many other bands.
But as for death metal? Nope, I can't get into that. Too much garbled screaming for me and the lyrics are WAY too edgy.
I had a very cool grandmother, bless her soul! She actually could enjoy and understand metal music and make intelligent comments about what I was listening to. She liked all kinds of technically well executed music that contained real emotions.

I think something like Archspire's vocals as well as many others are a lot harder to do than sing. Also in terms of effort and performing, Screaming or more of growls and gutturals are more exasperating and take more energy than singing.
Its the other way around for me. Am actually kinda scared to try screaming because of all the shit I hear about people going mute. (which idk if it can actuall happen)
Yare293 That's only if you are screaming like an idiot and just yelling. If you are doing it proper (which isn't hard at all and self explanatory) it isn't going to effect you. Only make your throat, vocal chords, lungs, etc stronger. The only time I hear this happen is with metalcore artists who for the most part are teenage boys who have no music knowledge whatsoever and do their own thing.

I honestly don't get how people can be so closed minded about music. Personally, I really dislike a lot of the heavier side of metal, (screaming, groaning, loud and obnoxious guitars and drums) just because it isn't exactly to my taste anymore. But, I also don't hate on or put down people who do like it, because I can put myself in their shoes and see the value in that kind of music. Same goes for every genre, in every style of music! Just because I don't like it doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist and people can't enjoy it.

(warning, total metal elitist here lol) i think the label ''metal'' no longer really has a clear meaning. f.e, someone asks what music i like and i respond with ''i like metal''... that could mean anything from post-metal to deathcore, which have about as much in common as reggae and chiptune. but telling them i love progressive melodic death-metal doesnt really get me anywhere either...
Exactly right. I hate it when people ask me what kind of music I listen to because I can't just say metal, because people don't know what to think. I can't tell them power metal because non-metalheads have never even heard of it!

My dad introduced me to Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, Iron Maiden etc. then got wound up when I progressed to Metallica, Slayer, and Venom. My mum, similarly, got me into Nirvana, the Cult, and the Sex Pistols then started fretting about me moving on to Slipknot, Marilyn Manson and Suicide Silence. In their eyes my music takes it too far. They're fine when I write more bluesy or indie songs, but when I play thrash or metalcore they look at me with a look that says 'I raised my son on good music to see him listen to this?!' Can anyone else relate?
Nu metal like Slipknot, Alternative/Industrial metal like Marilyn manson and Deathcore like suicide silence have fuck all to do with bands like The cult or the Sex pistols. You'll actually find all of these bands originate from a band in your previous list......Metallica.....from Metallica came Pantera and from Pantera came the bands you listed.
