2005 Chrysler town and country. You are amazing!!!!!!! Radio, and the LED on it wouldn't come on at all, key fob didn't work, door locks did nothing without key in it. ALL FIXED with one fuse. Thank you thank you.
mine wasn't actually blown, it was just corroded to hell. white gunk all the way up into the fuse's plastic case. It was totally the RIGHT fuse to be looking at though and that was the big problem.
Thank you so much. This video showed pretty much the exact same problems our 03 grand caravan sport was having, replaced the IOD 20 amp fuse and the radio and everything else worked again. All the video posters on UA-cam please keep up the excellent work, thanks again.
Eric!I just want too say THANK YOU! i was amazed that a IOD fuse can cause the car not to crank!! and start.I was going to check the battery, its located under the left fender well, and you have too take the tire off. but thanks to you, i did not have to do that. i am a retired mechanic, and former business owner, and fleet mechanic. THANKS AGAIN!
Useful. My 2007 Grand Caravan was having radio and power-door problems. Although the IOD fuse wasn't blown, there was corrosion on the leads, suggesting water had gotten into the fusebox. I replaced it with a clean fuse and will do a thorough contact-cleansing at first opportunity, after making sure I disconnect the battery leads. I hope I won't have to replace the box, but it's working for now.
You saved me with the IOD Fuse. My 2007 Dodge Caravan died at the Bank in the ATM line. My van had died whyle driving a few weeks before. I checked Error codes it showed P0335 & P0340 I replaced the Crankshaft Posisition Sensor also replaced the Ignition Coil & Finally the PCM which I had programmed from Fs1 for $194.00 After a week it came & was installed. The 1st mechanic told me after he tryed & failed to bring it to the dealer. I then took it to a Great Mechanic who got it started but told me there's no guarantee that it won't happen again. I went to the bank to get $100.00 cash to pay him when it died again? this time I saw the U0168 code & pulled up your video. It worked like a champ. I feel lucky that I'm only out $324.00 I've heard some horribly tragic stories costing Thousand's. Thank you for saving me. I got the $100.00 & gladly paid my mechanic for reflashing the PCM & getting the van started after the other guy who didn't charge me failed. Ps: The IOD fuse seemed to be ok though I replaced it anways after pulling ground & waiting 10 min. My wife told me the Angel's were with me. Thank's my Guardian Angel.
Well done, right on target!!!! Perfect diagnosis of blown fuse symptoms and all it was was this IOD fuse. Hat's off to you, keep up the good work!!! Saved me hundreds not having to go to the dealership.
I did 4 hard resets in my o8 nitro.its been over a month since ive had any issues.I spoke with Matt and his team and the were very helpful. When the tipm is eminent I will purchase from them.
I replaced battery and forgot to tighten it down, hit a bump while driving and panel started going erratic. then van just died. I got out, tightened it down and noticed panel didn't work afterwards. wasn't really sure which fuse to check until I saw this vid. .thanx a lot!
Good video. Helpful for a frustrating problem. FYI. IOD stands for Ignition Off Draw. You pull this fuse when the car is in extended storage, that is why they have it. It eliminates any parasitic draw.
Man buddy John from Florida here you sure save my day today in my case I woke up this morning and my van wouldn't start I checked all the fuses because my radio also wouldn't come on dash lights wouldn't come on locks wouldn't work and because of the locks I couldn't open the back liftgate I seen your video and watched it and although I had checked the fuses the IOD fuse checked out okay for some reason and yet as soon as I changed it all my problems were solved thanks to you keep up the good work I just subscribed to your Channel thank you again
Thank you, most helpful video Have same issue with 2009 Avenger Oh yeah, I bought four of the Horns advertised in this Video and they are totally BS; weakest horm I've ever heard!
@@adventureoflinkmk2 Hard to believe one little thing like this fuse could cause so much trouble. Remember. "Back to the futureII" the 1955 Doc Brown counter part said something simular about a blown Japanese transistor. Marty; Hey, Japan makes all the best stuff!
@@adventureoflinkmk2 Darn, actually didn't work for Me but, I do have same thing going on. Dome Light comes on, now with the key and the door locks work on the door with the key on. Tail Lights flash with the fob L/U and head lights turn on in courtesy mode (key off). I think, before now with the key off nothing worked, alerted by radio NOT turning off when ya open the door. I was able to set everything to turn off in 45 seconds, which is half ass good for now.
I was trying to sit in my van, awaiting for my drivers licence test this october, But i kept getting pissed that the fact that the radio or the clock wasnt working. So i looked some stuff up on the internet, but they were telling me about a fuse box under the dash, or on the left side of the dash on the door cover, But i removed them and i didnt find anything! But now, i realized that all of that went into one fuse, The IOD fuse. I took it out, and it was all corroded like you would see with a battery in an old device. So i cleaned it out, and replaced it, And now it works! The Clock and the radio work, But you should probably state that this works if there is no fuse box under the dash, or on the left side of the dash. Otherwise, Thanks! It really helped and made my day!
Man! You're the best! A couple months ago I was trying to insert the antenna cable in my radio and foolishly had it on at the time. Fuses were blown. I spent hours looking up the wiring harness and researching fuses. I replaced the fuse for the radio and the dome light to no avail. I took the radio to a shop to have it tested. They told me it worked fine but I might have been a problem with the ground. I was getting frustrated that nothing was working then I thought about the fact that neither the dome light nor the radio were working so I went back to the fuse box to inspect the fuses I hadn't changed. I see that I.O.D. fuse in a little box and decided to research. Your video was at the top of the suggested videos. Once you mentioned the dome light, dash panel and radio I decided to pull it and discovered that it was indeed blown. Less than a minute later my dome light and radio are back in business. Top shelf man. Videos like yours are what make UA-cam a great resource. Big thanks from Ohio.
adventureoflinkmk2 Yeah it was a total noob error. 🙃 I was upset that the when I wanted the tuner, the radio kept giving me a "tuner fail" message. When I figured that the antenna wasn't plugged in, I just jumped on it without thinking. Live and learn. Lol
I have an 2004 Chrysler seabring and I come across similar problem with no start and no lights. Fan works as others work. Looked it up and a same 20A yellow fuse blown. Put a new one in and it starts and goes. This happened at least 5x . Best if you buy a box of 20A yellow fuses on hand. It will do it again and now you know what it is, where it is and fix it. Saves alot of grief and expenses.
Thanks! You just saved be some bucks buying a new fob. Fob would not unlock/lock doors on my 1999 caravan. Found the IOD pulled it, it was ok so put it back and the fob works now. 30 second fix for a problem going on several months!
Great Video, really! I've been Fixing Cars 50-Years. But.. was stumped by Chrysler 10D fuse! Turns out it's IOD Ignition Out! Thanks for your sharing Young Man! Old Fart in A.J. Arizona 👍
Holy cow. I appreciate this as I had to take out my factory radio on my 2000 grand caravan and then put it back in and I had all these symptoms. Gonna head outside now to check out my fuses. I looked earlier and they looked fine, but now I'm gonna pull them to double check them. Come to find out it was the IOD 10 amp fuse. Fixed in the time of a traffic light. Note to self--disconnect the negative battery cable--all the time for electrical situations.
Moms 98 Caravan has flashing lights on console, dinging, wipers don’t go off, windows none, horn and no radio. Yet she gives all her money away to others. I hope this IOD fuse is the problem. Relay switch in the mail. I just want to thank this guy, forgot his name....God bless you, brother!
Mine might be a different fuse, but your video definitely helped me. I plugged my phone recharger in the top hole (the one with the image of a key on the cap), and there was that lovely popping sound plus scent of fried electronics and my radio stopped working. Thanks for making it easy for me to find the fuse box!
+adventureoflinkmk2 I'm going to the auto parts store tomorrow with the hope of just getting the radio going again. I have a road trip coming up soon, and can't live without music for that!
+adventureoflinkmk2 I have two ports, one direct to battery and one keyed (I think that's what the symbols on the covers mean, anyway). The one that goes direct to battery works like it's supposed to work. It was the one with the key logo that made the pop sound and killed the radio section, like the clock and whatnot, but none of the other things you showed in your video died.
Yes -- this video lists precisely all that my 2005 Dodge Caravan unexpectedly did the other day -- nothing odd had happened prior to that. So, I did what your video suggested -- EXCEPT that when I removed the IOD 20 Amp fuse as suggested -- just my luck -- it came out with only ONE prong & the other is inside the fuse box & flush with the top of the fuse "receptacle". HELP PLEASE!! :( ** Update an hour later -- situation is worse than I thought -- read online how to use tweezers to remove the prong -- but as I removed the broken fuse & inspected it -- it is burned black (& possibly corroded?) on the yellow plastic of the fuse where the prong was & the metal prong left behind is actually recessed into the hole (I ran a safety pin along the hole to see how much was sticking up of the prong) -- I think I'm going to have to live with no radio, no clock, no interior lights, no door warning dinging, no power locks on any doors, etc. -- thankfully, the power windows work still!! The van is old -- not worth taking in to have it repaired -- unless someone knows what to do at this point!! Appreciate any advice!! Thanks tons!!
2001 T/C LX --- Tighten battery clamp onto each post. Clean them well for contact. Check the Underside of the Fuse box... where battery leaking can damage... It may be the IOD... a WEAK battery can also cause this. But, you did say you were blowing fuses quickly... open/short somewhere... (All I know is that I jumped off my battery, and then the dash panel flipped out. I already had the panel out and disconnected.. put it back, then took off the negative of the battery. Re-tightened positive and negative post connects .. slap tight! Fixed it Quick !) But, I also have seen where shorts affect this BCM, and the dash instruments.
if u have an iod fuse and its fine, dont worry. also check ur EATX Battery fuse if u have one there most likely u do. i spent hundreds on my Chrysler voyager, ran through wires n only thing i didnt do was check the eatx fuse. my van went to limp mode spent my money i had stupidly to figure out it was that. i know ur saying what a dummie lol, its ok i shoulda checked. check ur fuses people. hope this helps
The 20 amp EATX fuse supplies power to two of three power sources to the transmission control module (TCM) mounted under the hood on the passenger side fender aft and left of the washer fluid bottle. When the EATX relay (in PDC) is actuated that fuse supplies power through the relay's output contacts and on to the TCM. It also supplies power to the TCM when the ignition is off. Taken from the Chrysler Minivan forums
I got the same issues as on this video but my IOD fuses aren't blown. Everything was working fine until I pulled them out 2c if they were blown. I have no radio n it drained my battery instantly. How can o fix this issue?

hi, i have a 04 dodge ram 1500. my problem is blinking lights on the panel (PND12) and indoor cab lights. what do you recomend me ? sorry by my english i speak spanish. thanks.
2001 Dodge Ram van - blower stopped working, then ABS and Air Bag lights went on, then radio stopped working, the power door locks stopped working. I'm a broke old lady and know if I take it in I'll get fleeced. Do you think this may be the problem?
I have a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country Touring 3.8L that I can't get the interior lights to come on. The rest of the symptoms are there's no dinging, the lights for the backlit dash buttons and analog clock are out and the clock does not work. Also the dash says NO FUSE. The memory for the fog light being on when the automatic headlights come on does not work anymore, but I can turn them on manually still. The interior lights wont turn on when I open the door or when I try to turn them on manually. Map lights won't come on either. I always have the dashboard set up for the miles till empty and it always comes on, when I start the engine, to the temperature and no fuse message. Every fuse in the TIPM has been checked. Is there a relay that could be stuck in the off position that would be getting these symptoms? Like I said everything works fine except for the symptoms that I described. It starts up fine. Any ideas?
I have a 2007 jeep grand Cherokee and replaced my iod fuse and the jeep engine wont turn off even with the key off. Everything works with the fuse blown except the radio won’t keep memory. I can’t figure it out
Because the IOD fuse also controls the radio memory. And, if the engine doesn't turn off even with the key off... theres definitely something wrong. I've heard about this with diesels, usually not petrols.. runaway engine?
I have a no bus light and theres no communication no read on meter I changed alternator ignition switch cylinder and coil pack, do I gotta get new keys programmed if I didn't have a original chip keys

Thanks for representing and showing your support :) but yeah, if the wiring under the fuse box is good (especially to the IOD), then the next step of action would be to take it to the dealer for diagnosis, up to and including the BCM

What do you do when the IOD fuse is causing the parasitic draw? Thx
Remove it and put an ammeter in its place. Then remove fuses one by one until the amps drop to 0. Then research what circuits those fuses go to
Man buddy John from Florida here you sure save my day today in my case I woke up this morning and my van wouldn't start I checked all the fuses because my radio also wouldn't come on dash lights wouldn't come on locks wouldn't work and because of the locks I couldn't open the back liftgate I seen your video and watched it and although I had checked the fuses the IOD fuse checked out okay for some reason and yet as soon as I changed it all my problems were solved thanks to you keep up the good work I just subscribed to your Channel thank you again

Well this van, the odometer says 529,522
But its a new engine tho,

Yeah i know that's right.. better yet I'd be trying to find why the fuse keeps popping to begin with
Thanks! You just saved be some bucks buying a new fob. Fob would not unlock/lock doors on my 1999 caravan. Found the IOD pulled it, it was ok so put it back and the fob works now. 30 second fix for a problem going on several months!

Thank you very much... and as for a name, you can see it above my comments here but im joe
Mine might be a different fuse, but your video definitely helped me. I plugged my phone recharger in the top hole (the one with the image of a key on the cap), and there was that lovely popping sound plus scent of fried electronics and my radio stopped working. Thanks for making it easy for me to find the fuse box!
2003 Chrysler Town and Country, factory radio. I forgot to add that.
+adventureoflinkmk2 I'll let you know how it goes!
+adventureoflinkmk2 I replaced the fuse labeled RDO/IP IGN, and it worked like a charm. Radio and clock working. Thanks for your helpful video!
This is my exact problem, thank you for making this video.
i cant find my IOD on my 2003 chrysler sebring?? any suggestions???
So remove the negative battery wire first and then replace the fuse then connect the negative battery wire again?
No, just replacing the fuse is fine
Yes -- this video lists precisely all that my 2005 Dodge Caravan unexpectedly did the other day -- nothing odd had happened prior to that. So, I did what your video suggested -- EXCEPT that when I removed the IOD 20 Amp fuse as suggested -- just my luck -- it came out with only ONE prong & the other is inside the fuse box & flush with the top of the fuse "receptacle". HELP PLEASE!! :(
** Update an hour later -- situation is worse than I thought -- read online how to use tweezers to remove the prong -- but as I removed the broken fuse & inspected it -- it is burned black (& possibly corroded?) on the yellow plastic of the fuse where the prong was & the metal prong left behind is actually recessed into the hole (I ran a safety pin along the hole to see how much was sticking up of the prong) -- I think I'm going to have to live with no radio, no clock, no interior lights, no door warning dinging, no power locks on any doors, etc. -- thankfully, the power windows work still!! The van is old -- not worth taking in to have it repaired -- unless someone knows what to do at this point!! Appreciate any advice!! Thanks tons!!
***** How difficult is that?? I mean the taking apart the fuse box!! I thought I was doing well to have managed to get this far!! Bad luck!!!
Yes sir, always helps to check the fuses, and good tip on the EATX Fuse
Hi saw ur comment what is the eatx fuse for
The 20 amp EATX fuse supplies power to two of three power sources to the transmission control module (TCM) mounted under the hood on the passenger side fender aft and left of the washer fluid bottle. When the EATX relay (in PDC) is actuated that fuse supplies power through the relay's output contacts and on to the TCM. It also supplies power to the TCM when the ignition is off.
Taken from the Chrysler Minivan forums
Also, 2001 Dodge Ram 1500; the I.O.D fuse is by the driver's side door with a black safety over it. Fuse no. 12, 10A
I got the same issues as on this video but my IOD fuses aren't blown. Everything was working fine until I pulled them out 2c if they were blown. I have no radio n it drained my battery instantly.
How can o fix this issue?

Any ideas?

And, if the engine doesn't turn off even with the key off... theres definitely something wrong. I've heard about this with diesels, usually not petrols.. runaway engine?

@@brandonwilliams9597 yeah I suppose it can be done that way.. normally how this works is the dealer hooks up their dealer level scan tool to the car after computer replacement, then sync the vin and all that to the new computer
What do you do when the fuse pops every time you put it in
Then it's time for more investigation. Look into what is all powered by this fuse (I do explain which features are powered off it) and pull fuses one by one until it stops blowing
Ok will the iod fuse also cause the heater not to work along with the locks?
It may cause the blower not to work, yes. If the heater doesn't work then you may have bigger issues (such as blend door stuck or a clogged heater core)
@@adventureoflinkmk2 remove your glove compartment box out of the way you need a blower motor resistor switch 15 dollar part at any parts store simple fix for heater blower motor . as well check other relay switches in yourfuse box compartment for bad fuse or relay switches.
Nice video,
I just had this problem on my 2006 dodge charger after working on the subwoofer and amp. My IOD fuse seems to be ok. Any idea on something else to check?
Did u figure it out
I have a 2010 Crystler 300 my power locks seat and radio went out at the same time and the fuse is still good but i have not tried the iOD fuse dp u think it will work?
Where is the fuse for the blinkers???
Blickers?
I can't see any fuses for the blinkers. Do you?@@adventureoflinkmk2
where exactly is this fuse located under the hood? I have a 2006 dodge stratus sxt 2.4L. which slot is it what color is it? I would greatly appreciate it I havnt had a radio for 2 years and it's driving me insane. I have instrument lights but my power locks and my remote won't work nor will my dome light turn on.
+adventureoflinkmk2 sorry man I don't see anything in my manual for this fuse that's why I asked . now I DO have a slot that's for number 5 that doesn't have a label and it apparently is for all the problems I'm having . it's a 10 AMP red.
everything works on car but it doesn't start. windows, doors, radio, AC, lights, on dash board, horn starter clicks and thats it. it has a new battery. I checked fuses. Stumped please help
My 2008 Dodge Grand Caravans radio went out it turns on sometimes than turn off sfter a few seconds and it may make a really loud noise. Help
Where is the noise coming from?
@@adventureoflinkmk2
The noise is coming from the speakers. It sometimes works but when it does it just shuts off like in 10 seconds later so my husband thinks that it's not a fuse because if it was a fuse he said the radio wouldn't work at all. Thanks
@@dianawoods8779 okay. I googled it awhile back and the resulting sound may be the speakers either feeding back to the amp or grounding out...
@@adventureoflinkmk2
Ok thanks I'll relay to my husband 👍
Thx for the vid I hope this is the problem I'm having with my 2010 van
Thanks for commenting bud.. good luck with the repair
Update. I checked the fuses and they all were good. The problem turned out to be the positive side of the battery post was not tight
@@NemesisEnforcer4937 glad it was still an easy fix
We changed the radio and ever since I have no hazard lights on a 2004 dodge grand caravan
2015 Chrysler 200 the battery keep going dead put new battery still goes dead i notice the start button if i push in the middle it will not start but push on the outside of the button it will all so my dash lights stay on would the start button be the problem
Hello, some trainee mechanic has combined 2 batteries in series to start my Chrysler 300 and the fuse boxes, front and back are now making funny noise, and the car wont start, no power to injectors, plugs and fuel pump... am thinking of replacing the fuse boxes, is that the correct approach to solve the issue? PS: all the lights are ok on the dashboard, windows work fine as well
***** Stories like Guery's scare the fire out of me. I really like to be a Good Samaritan, and help people out with a jump start. However -- I ALWAYS insist in doing ALL the connections to both vehicles. ECM's and BCM's are too expensive to goof around with. BTW, good vid!
you are right, as those fuse boxes make some funny noise as soon as you turn the key on, anyways I hope they fix that or will see them in court...
Question does transmission has a fuses also
we have an 08 Chrysler town and country touring. yesterday all the light on the dash, were flashing... things were dinging... wipers were "on" without being on... gages dropped to zero while I was driving. changed the iod fuse and its still happening :( any ideas on what it might be would be great
I have changed my iod fuse in my 07 grand caravan and my power locks still won’t work but it still honks when I hit the key fob buttons
I'd be looking at the power door lock circuit.. wires, fuse, relay, etc
hey, I got a dodge caravan 99
I got problems with the fuel pump 20 A. it blows up/burns out every time I put one on. Pump tanj is okay and al the lights turn on but the car wont startm what can I do?
I have a 2015 Grand caravan My IOD is not 20 amps and it's also not easy to get out. It's in a housing I cannot get it out everything says to pull a fourth of an inch that does not happen it doesn't budge there are clamps
Odd, mine came out without clamps..
