I'm retired Army Res and I shot and qual with the M4 the first and last time about a year before retirement!! I was in 24yrs; all the time before that was just M16 because none of the units I was in didn't get them...the struggle is real!
Except this isn't CIF. Guard units issue out gear directly to their own soldiers, which means the unit owns the gear they issue, not CIF. Depending on the command, the unit may be limited to only as much gear as they rate per to&e. In other words, if the unit is overstaffed, someone's not gonna have gear. The same goes if someone leaves the unit and doesn't turn in their gear. The unit won't get replacement unless the missing gear report is filed and funding is approved to procure replacement gear. That said, I've seen guard units deployed with A2s and the old M4s with triangle hand guards, lol. And no, they didn't have optics either, straight iron sights.
Yeah no shit. Get out that MRAP and take this broke ass metal detector and walk in front of the convoy any time someone sees something that might be an IED.
hahah. True story. When I joined my first guard unit in 2008 they legit issued me a vietnam flac vest, desert cammos from the 90's (Had two sets of woodland Cammos i actually drilled with), a korean war era m-51 cold weather hat (still have to this day), and some other odds and ends. When I volunteered to deploy on my first iraq tour with another unit they all laughed at me when I showed up with that flak vest. Luckily they issued us all newish uniform gear at the mob site before we went over.
I was active duty then switched to the guard. Soldiering part is nearly an impossible task. It was a struggle to improvise good training for my soldiers and maintenance schedules are a pipe dream. If we spend a weekend cleaning weapons that’s a month where that is all the soldier did and learned nothing. The military knows this which is why they are considering if they haven’t already implemented more than one weekend a month. But then that takes away from your civilian job. It’s a balancing act you don’t have to worry about when full time.
We are guardsmen not nasty girls, and there wouldn’t be an active component without the national guard show some respect. I was active first than the guard but I’m proud to be in my guard unit.
@@brookshadlin117 It's alright. They made up for that, by giving him a non-functioning gas mask from WW1 that still has traces of mustard gas on and in it. You can tell it's a snug fit, by how the straps burn into your hair.
Joined for the Reserves for the college money and got deployed to Iraq. Went from a joke to driving MSR Tampa dodging IEDs with bolt on Hill Billy armor. We were a cluster f*ck that came together to perform after 3 months of getting shit on by AD. Loved being an engineer and will remember it for the rest of my life. This video was so true - remember having M60s and Vietnam TA50.
This is so relatable. Though I have yet to be deployed as a guardsman, my armory is just so empty and the weapons we do have either need maintenance or non-existent
Honestly sounds like shitty PBOs and supply specialists. Big army can't send you gear if they have no clue that you're short gear. There are army depots full of serviceable gear from the post coldwar and post GWOT draw downs. And old but servicable gear is better than no gear at all
After active duty, I joined the guard and was deployed again. I must be lucky because we got brand new everything! I even had a brand new (wrapping still on the seats) up-armored 1114 with A/C and eagle mounts on the turret, and this was in 2005. M4's with EoTech optics, AT4's, Tac-Satellite radio, Warlock system, Sat phone, and NVG's. But....I did PSD for "VIP's" who had the pull to acquire said equipment.
I’ve deployed three times with the guard, twice to Afghanistan and once to Kuwait.... I’ve also done two stateside mobilizations since 9-11 for 9 and 22 months respectively.... I have always gotten new equipment, and lots of it..... Now, the reserves get effed because of how the money gets divided, and active army being able to take back funds from the reserves if they haven’t spent it, but once funds go to Guard Bureau they can’t take it back unless it hasn’t been spent at the end of the year.
LOL, So true. So true. I was deployed in 2004 and we got hand-me down DCU uniforms (literally worn by the previous year's rotation), body armor with no plates, korean war era 5-ton and 2 1/2 ton trucks, no armor anything. I am amazed we had ammunition. It took me almost 7 years to get a darn intact sleeping system. What good is a ruck without a frame or a sleeping system liner and nothing else!! Oh the life of a reservist.
lol so true in 2003 they issued us Vietnam Flak Vest in Iraq... lol i got the new plate carried because i was to big to fit them vietnam Floatie vest looking trash...lol..

I myself am on my 3rd year as an army reservist and this is way too damn accurate. Damn near my whole battalion failed our last PT test and on top of that, I can't say I'd wanna rely on too many of them down range. I'd rather hop in with the Active Duty component and try my luck🤷♂️
Ok to set some things out clear...not all guard and reserve units are the same...it all depends on that state and that unit and how things are...my unit get all the nice toys and we got high pt standards and gets our job done right...like I said it's all based on the unit...you could have a ate up unit...ahem active duty...and get little to nothing done...but it's all on the unit and how they get stuff done
I tell you what...if ONE of us shows up to drill with our hair out of reg (maybe barely touching our ears or appearing to) they send us to go get a haircut before we come back..I haven't had to do it..but I have seen others..
Korea era cots, helmets from desert storm, and MRE that you don't drink the shakes from and for the love of god don't say "Top, mine's expire." Everyone's is expired and you should be grateful.
Peter Griffin, Damn! lol I left Ft Campbell after serving 4 years active Army and thought I was finished with the military....WRONG! 6 months later, I was raising that hand again and retaking the ASVAB and my physical. I was a fight medic with the AFNG, was deployed and did more Active Duty days then I can count. My liver was evil and I punished it constantly though.
Charles Johnson I am the true definition of Air Force Rejected Me Yesterday. I just saw an Air Force recruiting commercial just now and immediately just had a shot of Johnnie Walker.
Not sure if the AF still give that government travel credit card or not, but I remember when they had like a 50k limit on it and people was buying boats and cars with that card. They dropped the limit and adjusted the amount on the card depending on the length of duty.
I was about to go AD back in 2011, but the shutdown back then messed up reenlistment process and military pay. I would rather keep my guard status while employed full time in private sector.
Content is always funny bro. I must say though I plan on joining the ANG sometime this year and I know some will comment and say it’s a waste of time and go active but not all of us are in that kind of position. Got a family and a good job but want something more out of life and to have some more experience. I know I should’ve went active duty years ago but life hit me in a different way and now the National Guard is the perfect fit for me. Just depends on what you want out of it and if I need to buy my own gear I got the money for it.

That was awesome. Only someone whose has done time in a combat zone can appreciate the humor in this vid ( Iraq 2008-2009; Middle East AO 2004-2006; 2015-2017). Thank you for a very funny video. Hooah.
I thought this video was very accurate.22 years active and guard. It was a shock when I saw the limits put on the guard due to budget restrictions. We sat on our butts and came up with PowerPoint classes to fill a weekend. When I was active, I ridiculed the Guard only because everyone else did, but when I got into the Guard, I got a much better understanding of it. The individual citizen-soldier did the best they could with what they had.
Hey National Guard here. Graduated with a 2 years degree and a bachelor in logistics. 1 weekend a month soldier. A full time job making more than active duty. (But u right thu NG is suck lack of supply. You know it's a state matter not federal).
No joke in 2016 my reserve unit issued a M16A2 that was actually converted from an M16A1 to one of my soliders. They just stamped "2" over the original "1".The A2 was adopted in the eraly 80's. Granted the majority of my platoon had A2's.
Hahaha.... My NG unit was stacked with cash. We had way more toys.. as an FO, I had 3 radios, a vector and dagger all to myself. I had a red dot, Marksmen all had ACOGs, and everyone had the PEQ-15s.... But that's funny that this is still the stereo type.

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂👍
Bruhh... MAKE THAT A SHIRT!
fuck i just angry reading this comment lol shits never clean for them. like this is how i got it.
Our route clearance guys just had to step on stuff to make sure it wasn't IEDs.
Bufkinator broooo that’s classy 😂
🤣🤣
Yeah no shit. Get out that MRAP and take this broke ass metal detector and walk in front of the convoy any time someone sees something that might be an IED.
ComocosonoEWL
Wait what
@ComocosonoEWL did you actually do that? I am extremely curious
If it was good enough for leonidas to kick Xerxes azz then it will be good enough for you.
Whole bit had me laughing
I was just thinking about how Leonidas lost...
hahah.
That hat has been around longer than my family has been in America
I was active duty then switched to the guard. Soldiering part is nearly an impossible task. It was a struggle to improvise good training for my soldiers and maintenance schedules are a pipe dream. If we spend a weekend cleaning weapons that’s a month where that is all the soldier did and learned nothing. The military knows this which is why they are considering if they haven’t already implemented more than one weekend a month. But then that takes away from your civilian job. It’s a balancing act you don’t have to worry about when full time.
This is years old but my unit starting drilling 3-5 days a month for that exact reason. 2 weeks in the summer turned to a month
But Sarge
Shout out to all the Nasty Girls! Was ANG in college...straight hand-me-down. Supply room looked more like the Salvation Army.
Cast-offs from the local Army/Navy store.
Not in Minnesota thank god. We got decent shit besides a few fucked up SAWs that the armorers refuse to fix.
😆😆😆
We are guardsmen not nasty girls, and there wouldn’t be an active component without the national guard show some respect. I was active first than the guard but I’m proud to be in my guard unit.
I had Vietnam era gear when i was in, it was a Staff Sergeant. This guy had a fucking star on his CIB... from Vietnam!
I’ve never served in the military, but I can’t get enough of these videos 😆
Leonidas did pretty damn good in it fighting Xerxes 😂😂😂
He was actually one of the first ones to die in battle
I had to dig up Abraham Lincolns grave to get you this rifle ...You got gunpowder!? LOL 😂
Lol my man said " can I get something that's with the current times?"
something from A.D. at least 😂
@@varangiantactical8843 lmao my mans is a army comic
I'm surprised he had multicam.
@@brookshadlin117
It's alright. They made up for that, by giving him a non-functioning gas mask from WW1 that still has traces of mustard gas on and in it. You can tell it's a snug fit, by how the straps burn into your hair.
@@manictiger I got a bill clinton era iba.
This gives me hope, I'm deploying in November with the guard.
Good luck and be safe
They're deploying the sh*t out of the guard in AZ...
0:37 he sounds so Desperate 😂 😂
They couldn't even give you an m1 garand or m14
C’mon dude! We all know Guard gets the 1903 Springfields.
@@duncanharrell5009 With no stripper clips.
Lmao!!!!
I'll take am M1 any day !
@@robertlee7412 Due to budget constraints you get a broken off chair leg. Lawn chair leg.
We got MH my hands!! 😂😂😂
And old but servicable gear is better than no gear at all
My 12B unit in the PRNG is getting a lot of love. We are getting a lot of new gear from weapons and attachments to equipment
Hahaha seems more like the USMC compared to other services lol we always got second hand stuff lol
Yep, and we make the shit work. SEMPER FI‼️🍻
when i was deployed, the marines that i saw had newer weapons, better optics and vehicles then the army folks. dont know what bayou yall work in.
Hahahaha maybe that unit just stole the stuff from the Army or the Air force lol
Blame the navy, they handle your budget🤪
Matt Dan Good point! Maybe I'll bring that up when I see any navy personal or navy veteran lol
We weren't active duty but atleast my guard unit had some new shit lol. I did see other units mainly support with muskets though lmao
Lmaooooo!! They gave my medical unit muskets at the Pakistani border. Had us all looking like Elmer Fudd!!😅😆😅
That was the only thing that was good about being in scout and infantry units in the guard lol
@@dannywilliams7917 yeah we got M4s first lol pissed all the support units off there's still units in bama with A2s 😂
@@ronaldbrown9638 😂😂😂😂😂
For sure. Some guard units are very up to date. Here in Texas most units of the 36th ID will look no different than those on the active side.
LOL that look on his face when he took that rifle back was priceless!!
"I had to dig up Abraham Lincoln's grave, to getchu this God damn rifle!"
I'm dead 😂
Haha! Finally a video about National guard and reserves! Love it!! :D
Mariana Pagan Hahaha had to show you guys some love
@@yushathomas but... But... Sarge...lol. Jk. Continue the love!
Thank you for the flashbacks to my NG time.
Early '90s, Guard LRSD, radio operator - AN/PRC 74. Not kidding.
I mean, that was better than two cups and some string.
Just tuning in during quarantine and I get a National Guard ad before this
lol so true in 2003 they issued us Vietnam Flak Vest in Iraq... lol i got the new plate carried because i was to big to fit them vietnam Floatie vest looking trash...lol..
Yay yusha friggin thomas
KO clips I’m back in this bitch
Yusha--funny as always! D Jax back with the Eagles what do ya think!!
OMG!!! I'M WEAK!!😅😆😅😆'THERE A BULLET HOLE IN THIS MFER?' YUSHA, YOU JUST MADE ME SPIT OUT MY 'MCDONALD'S SODA!!! THIS ONE IS HILARIOUS!! GREAT JOB, MAN!!!
My guard unit is pretty badass and high speed, hawaii national guard! Currently deployed!
25th ID 🤙 where you deployed bro
I can tell this is ACTUAL footage from the national guard because they are the only ones that would allow THAT beard in uniform.
@will yeager it's a joke, get a sense of humor. I'm NG btw
"Bruh!? When was the last time you shaved!?"
"About three weeks ago Sgt."
"... Fuck it."
I tell you what...if ONE of us shows up to drill with our hair out of reg (maybe barely touching our ears or appearing to) they send us to go get a haircut before we come back..I haven't had to do it..but I have seen others..
King Leonidas Beard
No the fuck they don't.
Oh damn, shots fired
Damn a spartan helmet, they really be upgrading the gear in the reserve
Great video, awesome looking t-shirts, I especially liked the one that said, "Talk light, Walk heavy, Stay humble"
Korea era cots, helmets from desert storm, and MRE that you don't drink the shakes from and for the love of god don't say "Top, mine's expire." Everyone's is expired and you should be grateful.
😂😂😱
I had a thick beard 3 weekends out of the month while in the ANG.
Stan Mack I tried joining the ang my credit sucked recruiter recommended arng and now currently regretting it lol 😂
Me too man I'm in right now and 3 weeks out of the month I got earings in fucked up ass haircut painted nail no shave you name it
Charles Johnson I am the true definition of Air Force Rejected Me Yesterday.
Truth!!! Go fulltime!!!
Well said man, right now I don’t know if I should go for marine reserve or NG
Not sure if you joined man but if you haven’t …I’m Infantry NG and I got a fuck ton of new gear, modern era plate carrier, helmet, and bunch of shit. I’ve only been to one drill with my unit but we have M4’s , CCO’s ,ACOG’s the whole 9. Army has a bigger budget, more opportunities. Got offered Ranger school and SF NG right after infantry OSUT. Go Army NG
Yea Im agr working with active everyday, I have brand new gear from deployment, they have garbage. It's all about who your supply sergeant is and how mission essential your unit is
0:23 In my opinion was the most accurate shit I’ve ever seen 😂😂
As an ARNG soldier with multiple deployments to the sand box and being close to retirement, I have one thing to say about this damn video...
...you right, you right!!!
After the BB gun I was waiting for the supply nco to say don't shoot your eye out lmao
Chris Atkinson that would’ve been perfect 😂😂😂
That was awesome. Only someone whose has done time in a combat zone can appreciate the humor in this vid ( Iraq 2008-2009; Middle East AO 2004-2006; 2015-2017). Thank you for a very funny video. Hooah.
Just finished up active and joined the guard. This video is on point.
"My hands if you keep asking questions" 😂
As a guard soldier.... this is accurate 🤦🏽♀️😂😂
It saved a mans life in vietnam tho 🤣🤣🤣
That background music!
My hands u keep asking questions😂😂😂😂
Lol! Great vid again. Keep doing your thing.
Hahaha.... My NG unit was stacked with cash. We had way more toys.. as an FO, I had 3 radios, a vector and dagger all to myself. I had a red dot, Marksmen all had ACOGs, and everyone had the PEQ-15s....
But that's funny that this is still the stereo type.
Got issued those same WWII era helmets at my Army Reserve unit in Cali in 2012. True story!
The fact the commanding officer is shouting makes it 10X funnier 😂
1:12 made my day 😄
Same lol
I had to dig up Abraham Lincoln grave to get u this rifle😂😂😂
