this isn't just in business, this definitely goes for society as well! the only way moving forward is to understand different perspectives and how we can collaborate to create the best possible outcome. this guy is fantastic, really enjoyed him.

it's been a while since a tedtalk resonated with me so much. Steve Jobs clearly knew what he was doing. from my experience, when i've had a lot of "smart" people on my team, and just like this guy said - having conversations, collaborating, building on each others ideas... that's where the true success came from. head office saw it, we saw it, morale was high. i'll be sharing this with some colleagues now. great stuff.

Control and command, hierarchy, bureaucracy (excessively complicated administrative procedures). Thank you Andrew I simply enjoyed this truth.

You're definitely onto something Andrew! I think one of the biggest problems as well, is that management are usually so out of touch - so even if they can look at the big picture and see where people might be better suited and what not - unless management spends their time in the thick of it... I don't think they'll really understand.

Finally! How many of us have been in jobs where the higher management just has no idea what's going on. for businesses to be successful these days, all people involved need to be hands on.

Not only doesn't management not know who to bring out our best, many don't want to. I don't totally agree here, I have had so many managers push me down because I knew something they didn't and they were threatened by that. Good ones versus bad ones, that would make interesting findings.

Its ideas like this that could make such a difference in how we structure our work. Change management is hard work as we get pretty attached to titles and descriptions.

Change gets a bad rap and I think is has a lot to do with the language we use. This topic highlights the need for change to titles and position descriptions. Change tends to frighten most people but if we don't start looking at the big picture now and making big changes I hate to think what will become of us.

In stores forced open, where low wage staff faces the public, and is at risk I never see management. You would think they would make a point to be out front to not just share the risk but to share the load and worry and be there just because they should be!
