I would not upgrade if I already had the Dustopper, but the Pro version is actually better constructed. They work about the same. I agree the seal and latching system is worth the extra $10.

Thanks. Only having the 2 and 4 inch dust deputies, I couldn't determine if the pro was worth upgrading if you already had the dustopper. I love the dust deputies but needed something with a lower profile.

@@bynumwoodworks8275 I have the 2" dust deputy and it has always worked great. I plan on getting the 4" if I ever get space to setup my shop again.

These videos are far longer than actually putting it together. It was under three minutes from unboxing to use. I now have two dust extractors with Dustoppers (old and new) on opposite ends of my long narrow shop so I don't have to wheel one back and forth from tool to tool. I built plywood platforms that sit on the flat tops of the DEs which creates a very small footprint. Those HD buckets aren't sturdy enough to prevent collapsing under full vacuum. My solution was to cut the rim and bottom off another bucket and put it inside.

I have actually done the same thing with my buckets on the dust deputy by cutting off the bottom, which also added a little more capacity

I upgraded to the Pro version and find it to be a big improvement with the seal, latches and ground stud. My planer would over pressurize the original and would blow dust out the lid. Need to run it to see if the new seal and latches keep the dust in. So far I’m happy, seems to have way better suction.

Follow up…the new version worked very well with the planer. Ran enough lumber to fill a 5 gal bucket with nothing blowing out through the lid. Helps to run the shop vac along with the planer though to keep the hose from clogging.

Glad to hear it was better. Another review seemed to show the pro was a few dB quieter. Did you notice any difference ?
      Cheers

Bit of a hack job, don't you think? Dustopper gets graded down for the addition of a grounding lug and no wire...yet others don't offer such a feature. I don't get it. I've used separators with "anti static resin" and have received horible shocks. Are you a paid hitman on a mission? So what's wrong with giving someone a tool to ensure a gasket is inserted easily. I liked the idea, and saw it as Dustopper going the extra measure. Yet you find it odd? I don't get it. Other reviews and comparisons (with more views than yours) seem to like Dustoppere PRO. I really like mine!

I don't know if you watched the entire video or not. I was just pointing out that basically a bolt that costs 10 to 15 cents withe no wire for grounding doesn't do a whole lot. I also went on to say that I thought it was going to work fine for me and solicited opinions from people like yourself to see if it performed better. It was not a review but more of a first look for me since I never had the original. It your opinion if you have the dustopper would you upgrade. That was what I was soliciting.

I saw that you didn`t use the wood block that came with it to push the rubber gasket all the way down after inserting it!

Hi very nice presentation. I wish the bucket were translucent like the top. Do you know where I can find one ? I appreciate your input. Thanks

Good question. I Have seen where people put a plexi window in their bucket. But I haven’t found a Translucent bucket.

Thanks for your information. I will buy the dust topper pro. Do you think the dust topper is as good as the oneida cyclone?

Thank you. If you by from Amazon I have an Affiliate link in the description but I believe it is less expensive at Home Depot. I feel the dust deputy is slightly better but dustopper works great for my application.
