Thomas is 100% right. I've found mastery over my body through ITTf 16:8 (not always perfectly 16:8 but roughly) 3-4 X per week, lower carbs and added sugars, cardio and weights 5-6 X week. And higher protein intake, about 100-150 g/day via food only no powders. It's truly amazing, I'm 49 and the spare tire I've had in some form since I was a teenager is disappearing. I'm lighter and fitter than I've been in 40 years, down 50 lbs from my peak at 235-240. I love the food I eat. And I'm proud of how I've been able to find the formula that fixed my body composition and health. I'm off the diabetes train and looking in the mirror is amazing. Thank you Thomas. You, and a couple other YT diet and health gurus, have been tremendous guides in figuring out how to get well. P.s. - ive been able to build significant muscle on this program, too. No joke, 49 years old and I my arms, chest, abs, legs, back, shoulders have more mass and definition than ive ever had. All with just a few dumbells and and $130 flat bench.

Thomas' health advice helped me alot during the pandemic. However, as a middle aged man who's belatedly trying to build up muscle mass and isn't overweight (perhaps a bit of extra fat from a bulking diet), I think that many would appreciate his views on how to bulk up and cut during the first two or three years of a body/strength training program with progressive overload, especially for those with ectomorph body type. Much of his advice is great for thinning down or maintaining a healthy body, but I'm not sure whether I would be able to build up anywhere close to my muscular potential using his principles without more specific guidance.
Been trying to gain weight and keep the weight on that I'm at. But I love how I feel fasting. And feeling the strength I have to not need food. I force myself to eat sometimes. Really interesting. But I am confused by the point of consuming and burning a lot more calories for maximum benefit. How can you practically do this. For instance, if you consume 2000-3000 calories for instance buring that extra 2000-3000 calories is next to imposiible even if you factor in highly individual differences in NEAT or factor in the thermogenic effect of food digestion and exercise. The most inense or greatest duration activity(i.e., running a marathon) will still not burn anywhere close to 2000-3000 extra calories if you consume them. If you fast once a week and eat very little, you can factor in 1500 less weekly calories you consumed but that would not be in the context of being hypercaloric to begin with and all those extra calories being factored in. If tou do OMAD or Alternate Day Fasting, you would always be in a hypo and not hyper caloric state to begin with. In that case even if you binged 1-2X week, the most you would end up doing is gravitating toward maintenance calories or end up hypercaloric depending on what you binged on. Either way, it would not be a case of comsuming 3000-4000 extra calories burned. If you could further clarify what you mean by this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks for sharing
I think a lot of this discussion is age related I’m 73 and I don’t eat what I did at 63. Perhaps on the most basic level you don’t see a lot of centenarian’s muscled up and bulked out rather they seem to have a flexible and slight build. I used to say we need to lift weights more as we age but at a certain age I now think we should reduce strenuous weight training and just practice yoga and reduce protein.
