Over the years I’ve had a small break or two, but in general I’ve been a solid drinker for all of my life. I now sleep much better and are starting to see a number of other benefits in my statistics. Right on Thomas! I've been into health, fitness and nutrition for over 3 decades, have watched you probably the longest, and your explanation of problematic foods and or supplements is spot on. With my current age and state of physiology I've moved into the longevity area of my lifestyle. You're expert interviews with cutting-edge influencer's has been eye opening at times. Most of the stuff you talk about, I've already implemented into my routine, but the red dye thing, has shed some insight into some of my families children's instabilities. This goes along way my friend!! Keep up the great content 👍 👏 👌.
He makes it sound like he's been eating margarine & just won't do it anymore lol But I did quit using that spray butter stuff that I used for wayy too many years. It was so convenient & tasted good tho
Modern fries, are all in seed oils... They used to be made, in beef tallow...I just made stew in crockpot..the fat smelled like old school fries 🍟 I think in n out, still uses beef tallow though
Not sure if this will be seen or not, but I have to thank Thomas for the wealth of knowledge and information he's given out. Since I started listening to his channel roughly 3 months ago, I've gained so much knowledge about health, foods, exercise and a bunch of other stuff. I've also lost 30lbs in the process as I've made some real life changes with my overall health and body. Again I say, Thank you thank you, thank you!
I decided to give up drinking since Jan 2023 not because of a problem but as of a direct result of the literature. I can't tell you the backlash I have recieved from so called friends on my decision. The stangest and most idiotic comment was, " what are you doing? do you think you are better than us now?" seriously!!! For me it is like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders where I did not have to have a drink because it was " the social thing to do"
Giving a tiny nod to your content overall. Specifically though, I am one of the people that subscribed after you stated your position on alcohol. I had no idea what you were going to say but I expected you to give it a slight thumbs up like most health related podcasters. I think MDs tend to be neutral on alcohol or support light alcohol use (are they beholden to the alcohol lobby or do they exist in an alcohol-rich culture?). My spouse drinks alcohol and there is a place for alcohol for some people. I am in recovery so I have a big dog in the fight for taking a strong position against alcohol consumption - my life. How do podcasters who pay so much attention to health put poison in their body? (You have interviewed such people.) And yet you stand tall and take a clear position against alcohol. Yes - the body waits as alcohol is processed in our hard-working, amazing livers. That isn't healthy!
This was a good video. I heard years ago from a butcher in a grocery store how bad Tilapia was and I never touched it from that day forward. It’s gross. You definitely taught me something new about the pudding, will be re-evaluating that option of food.
Replace your pudding cups with avocado mash cups from Costco in the refrigerated section. Has the consistency of pudding, keto friendly, organic and delicious.
At the advice of a counselor I was seeing for anxiety , I cut out all additives and dyes . Within 2 days my overall nervousness lowered quite a bit . Granted a lot of those items also have very high sodium levels . Occasionally I have something with additives , like a canned soup , and I feel it soon after. My heart starts pounding and I get agitated . The tricky part though is I was raised on foods like pot pies, frozen pizzas, and Hamburger Helper . So there's that comfort food appeal . So sometimes I mock up my own healthier versions of them .
Another very informative video. Yes some of my favorites are on the list and have to do some replacing. What about air frying fries, less oil, still a calorie bomb?
I have a drink around once every 4-6 weeks, I've never had a traditional hangover but I often don't feel right for a couple of days after. It's getting to a place where I'll likely be giving it up as well.
Industrial seed oils consist mostly of linoleic acid. It has been shown to oxidize in the body (and oxidize LDL in the process) and not just in a deep fryer or sitting in the open for weeks. Industrial seed oils are already partly oxidized due to high temperature processing. This is why chemical agents are used to remove the stench. Residual amounts of these agents and solvents (e.g. hexane) used to extract the seed oils are contained in every bottle of "vegetable oil". There is also a substantial variance in the amount based on different production batches and from different companies. If you are going to exclude MSG, then it does not make sense to not exclude industrial seed oils. If you have a choice and still feel compelled to use a "vegetable oil", then choose extra virgin olive oil. At least it is not semi-oxidized and contaminated with residual toxins.
Or..save it for special holidays ON THAT HOLIDAY try to stay away from CORN SYRUP if..you get a soda, Find one which uses CANE SUGAR only Just drink water Not ICE WATER Cool water stays down longer It's best to get a steal bottle Flask type Stanley, Stanley dupe, hydroflask, etc
Good stuff! I could never just cut out MSG though. LOVE Japanese food and just don’t see a reason to give it up. On the flip side though, I haven’t really experienced it doing anything bad to me 🤷🏻♂️
Thank You Thomas. YOU NAILED IT. I've known about these issues for a long time. The one about Tilapia makes sense too. A local butcher 20 yrs ago when I was seeking fresh shrimp informed me to eat wild and why. He said farmed shrimp are grown and fed under chicken cages where the shrimp eat the chicken poop. YUCK !!
Hi Thomas, thanks for all your great content! I recently watched your protein breakdown video, which was great. I was curious if you had any thoughts on fermented plant-based protein, particularly rice. The SunWarrior Classic is a straight rice protein, but it's fermented brown rice-wondering if that has any lessening effect on potential gluten cross-reactions. Or if you had any commentary on the fermentation they use in some of their other blends (I think I saw fermented pea too). Thanks man!
My grandma just passed two months ago, at 96. She has been drinking her whole life. Passed with a strong mind. I understand how bad it can be but many a people for centuries have drank and just kept on just fine. Diet is a huge part of things and I think alcohol mixed with poor lifestyles can be mega catalysts.
I’m guessing because it’s fun, helps to be social, and makes you feel great in the moment. It’s amazing to eliminate it if you can, but let’s be honest, you’re sober ass is not having as much fun as the drunk on the dance floor grinding against the principal at a high school dance that he somehow snuck into
I completely agree on the alcohol. Its been almost 4 years since I've touched it. A lot of people I talk to say they have it sometimes or a few drinks a week. I just can't do that. I know what it used to lead to. I've managed to substitute it with much healthier habits and try to live the life I was meant to live. Thank you for the information. It has helped me for over five years now. 🙏
I had a terrible bout of gastritis a while back and that has totally changed my thinking. I'm now all about a healthy gut lining and microbiome, and alcohol was one of the first things to go. I was surprised how much better my skin started to look once I gave it up! Thanks for sharing all this, it's incredibly important info.
So I'm not seeing polysorbate 80 or 20 in the ingredients list of jello pudding mix/ fat free-sugar free. Am I missing something? Was this an old ingredient? DO I still need to be concerned about this product? (We use it in our homemade ice cream.) Thanks for your response.
The problem with MSG is that I think they hide it on labels as something else. It's not listed directly so that you know. My L&P worstechire sauce is pretty decent but says "natural flavors" - well what are those exactly?
Agree with everything but once every couple of months I LOVE getting absolutely trashed and dancing my face off with some friends at a concert 😂 Even the hangover the next day is fun - I just watch TV, turn my phone off, and eat some Pho. It's a great break from my usually hectic crazy life. I wouldn't want to do that more frequently though. The novelty of it keeps the experience really fresh, and at the end of the day I care SO much more about my daily responsibilities and fitness than the feeling of alcohol. Find the balance you need to live a great life - everyone's different!
you are right. everyone is unique. when i used to get trashed, the next day i'd go out to my organic garden and work like a dog. two hours later the hangover was magically gone.
Interesting with the polysorbates. As a chemist, polysorbates (are coming from petrol byproducts) are very strong emulsifiers (I actually even avoiding it is skincare) while lecithin was the first emulsifier ever made, can be made from corn/eggs etc.
Awesome info ,thank you . Please do a vedio for daily exercise routain to cover the whole body to prevent muscles lost and keeping mobility for elderly people over 55 years old . And can they work the whole body with less sets ,can they work upper cheast and second day flat cheast for example
I don't eat any of these. Including any processed foods. Whole food here, thanks to you when I started my healthy lifestyle 5 years ago. I truly believe you helped save my life ❤
I agree with all of these except maybe MSG. I see MSG as a double-edged sword. I don't see the harm in putting MSG on my steak to enhance it and then even want it more. Yes, avoid it at all costs in garbage food, but if you know that what you're eating is good, then I am all for it. But hey, that's just me.
@@allenbrost9564It enhances flavor (subjective) for me and makes us want more (objectively), which is a good thing if you want to get more nutrition and calories in. Win, win for me.
MSG will cause high blood pressure. People who comsume a lot of it have a higher risk of stroke and heart attack. Your body has a hard time maintaining your blood pressure when there is such a great flux caused by chemical compounds like MSG. Its not good for you and its addictive. Steer clear of MSG.
Beetroot is very healthy and makes a beautiful red color in foods. Alcohol is not good, but neither is birthday cake and I enjoy them both on occasion. It's about finding balance.
There's nothing wrong with MSG as a substance, it's just the way we use it in cooking is way over portioned as compared to anything natural. You sprinkle MSG in cooking which is the same amount of umami as 5-10 kg of tomatoes. You'd have to eat dishes with tomato sauce for a week just to consume that much msg...
Yeah, I'm a lot less concerned about this one, since it exists naturally in most savory umami flavors. Maybe processed MSG causes some people problems.
I’m definitely someone who is hypersensitive to large amounts of MSG. If I eat at an Asian restaurant I become violently sick to death. Their notorious for using copious amounts of MSG in their food
Some of these I have never eaten and don’t intend to. But, MSG…OMG!! I also have a negative reaction to MSG…sleepless nights, tingling/heat sensation, brain fog. Fast food French fries were a tough one but haven’t had any for 2.5 years. The longer you go, the easier it gets. I won’t say never to alcohol but I go months without where I used to have 4-6 drinks per week. Great video! Thanks for all the extra info you give backing up your remarks.
There are a number of non-transfat non-hydrogenated fat margarines made with olive or avocado oil. There exist better alternatives to the worst type (which is banned in many jurisdictions due transfat bans).
Easy pudding: mix stevia sweetened vanilla or chocolate whey powder into full fat greek yoghurt. Let it sit long enough for the yoghurt to absorb the whey powder, or put it in the fridge overnight. No thickener needed. An easy way to wean kids off the other stuff. Makes a decent sweet dip too.
I'm in no way advocating Mcdonald's fries, but, on average, a Mcdonalds is more likely to rotate its oils out with fresh oils more frequently - both out of sheer necessity (volume of sales) and presence of a management structure/system operators. While even a well maintained Mcdonalds might have oil you deem as grossly unhealthy, there is a tier of fryer oil below that which exists in poorly run restaurants, places struggling to make money, and small unsupervised kitchens with crews that don't care. More places than you can imagine are keeping the same reheated oils for more than a few days, more like weeks plus, to the degree that your food is being cooked in a vat of carcinogen. If I had to guess, I'd say the predominance of health issues from deep frying come from oil practices that exceed negligence, yet go unseen, and are not part of "studies" while all the focus is directed at easy targets like McDs which has a turnover of product that would keep it from falling into this category.
I tend to agree with this analysis, and have thought the same for quite a while. However, i also think that on average, this factor has been somewhat averaged out -- meaning, fried foods using best practices probably aren't as bad as we think they are, because the foods made with bad practices have "skewed the average" so to speak. So although really stale & reheated oil _is_ really bad, in infrequent enough consumption, our body probably has a lot of capability to properly handle enough... It's more about the regular repeated consumption that really overwhelms the system and starts causing all the damage
4:12 i like sweets like i LIKE sweets a lot alot and i cant afford some of the fancier sweeteners but the house-brand splenda from walmart and krogers are more affordable for me and i use it in a lot of things… i make my own flavored yogurt using thawed strawberries from the freezer section, plain Greek yogurt and sucralose sweetener and it honestly tastes so much better than the ready made flavored yogurts on the market and I get to control what goes into it
Acrylamide forms with any starchy food cooked at high temp. The freshness of the potato or the type of oil doesn't matter. That being said, your version would be better than McDonald's because it would be less oxidized oil and free of preservatives.
@@ARTofTY-TV From my past research I dont think Acrylamide in Moderate consumption is a big deal. I dont think there's a proven link to it and cancer for humans.
Thomas DeLauer's video on the seven foods he'll never eat again highlights his commitment to health and well-being, grounded in a mix of solid scientific evidence and personal health philosophy. Here are the key takeaways: 1. **Avoidance of Artificial Fats**: DeLauer strongly advises against consuming margarine and shortening due to their trans fat content, which is linked to inflammation and metabolic issues. 2. **Emulsifiers as Gut Health Enemies**: Products like instant pudding that contain emulsifiers such as polysorbate 80 and 20 are avoided because of their potential to harm the gut barrier, affecting overall health. 3. **MSG's Undesirable Effects**: Despite its common usage to enhance flavor, MSG is avoided due to its association with overeating and potential neurotoxic effects, along with personal adverse reactions. 4. **Risks in Fast Food**: Specifically targeting McDonald's french fries, DeLauer highlights the dangers of acrylamide and unhealthy cooking oils, pointing out the broader issues of caloric density and carcinogenic risk in fast foods. 5. **Alcohol's Negative Impact on Health**: Citing research on alcohol's link to increased visceral fat and impaired metabolic functions, DeLauer has eliminated alcohol from his diet, underscoring its lack of benefits. 6. **Artificial Colors and Child Behavior**: The avoidance of Red Dye 40 is based on studies suggesting it can lead to hyperactivity and attention issues in children, raising concerns about its impact on adults. 7. **Concerns Over Farm-Raised Fish**: Specifically, farm-raised tilapia is avoided due to potential contaminants and unethical feeding practices in some countries, highlighting a preference for more naturally sourced proteins.
What temperature is too high for frying foods? I like to fry eggplant from time to time. And baking/roasting veg... usually 400*. What's the cut off temp?

👍🤩💝I agree. I love french fries but make them as healthily as I can - I eliminated all things McDs 20 years ago. I rarely drink wine but sometimes I do drink red wine.
If I want pudding, I make individual baked custards: eggs, milk, sweetener (I like honey) and vanilla, with a little nutmeg on top. Great warm or cold; it’s what I grew up with.
I am highly sensitive to Red-40. I break out in facial swelling, itching and hives. I can handle trace amounts, but a serving of Jelly Belly's is enough to cause it. So if I trigger it, I walk around disfigured for a few days and anti-histamines don't counter it at all.
The rats may have gotten sodium poisoning by the 4g/kg Mono-Sodium-Glutamate (MSG). Equivalent to 100 grams of table salt eaten by an adult 75 kg human.
MSG is fine. It's a powerful tool in the kitchen. Can take home cooking up a notch if used correctly. Ofc feeding a massive amount to a rat would cause issues. Just like feeding a massive amount of anything to a rat would cause some toxicity
Are there some brands/types of margarine that are okay? I don’t know if you have it in the US, but in Canada, we have a brand called Becel, which has a heart logo and and their slogan is litterally “Becel takes your health to heart”. The one that I have in my fridge has 1 g of saturated fat, 0 g of trans fat, 2 g of polyunsaturated fat, and 4.5 g of monounsaturated fat. What do you think about it ? What do you recommend to replace margarine ? Is real animal butter really healthier ? (I generally don’t like the taste of that…) What about ghee ? Or vegan butter ?
In the UK margarine isn't hydrogenated, it uses a process called Interesterification instead... I still prefer butter, but margarine over here wont kill you.
16:34 We always hear about the damages to the liver with alcool consumption, but what we rarely hear about is the damages to the whole digestive tract, especially the stomach and small intestines, who will absorb most of the alcool being consummed. Weekly consumption of alcool in the long term destroys the parietal cells of the stomach (there are studies about that), the cells that produces our gastric hydrochloric acid, wich is primordial for a good digestion. The less gastric acid production we have, the more we are at risk for pathogen bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and bad assimilation of nutrients, wich leads to carencies and premature aging. Alcool does not prolong life, it shortens it.

Not all emulsifiers are bad, mustard is the emulsifier in vinegar and oil salad dressing.

Modern fries, are all in seed oils...
They used to be made, in beef tallow...I just made stew in crockpot..the fat smelled like old school fries 🍟
I think in n out, still uses beef tallow though
You're a saint 😅
Problem is MSG is in just about EVERYTHING.
Do you have a video for which ingredients are the worst found in whey protein/protein powder. What should we look out for when buying?
I avoid powders with trans fats. Also, some can be surprisingly high in sodium.
I decided to give up drinking since Jan 2023 not because of a problem but as of a direct result of the literature. I can't tell you the backlash I have recieved from so called friends on my decision. The stangest and most idiotic comment was, " what are you doing? do you think you are better than us now?" seriously!!! For me it is like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders where I did not have to have a drink because it was " the social thing to do"
This is classic...definition of "friends"..people who care about you. Those people aren't friends, they are drinking buddies.
You find out who your real friends are when you give up the booze.
They feel guilty about their lack of self-control so they try to tear you down
Seriously I don’t drink and that makes it really hard to make friends cause it seems that’s what about 90% of people want to do when going out. 😞
Great, now I have to stop smoking french fries.
😂
😂😂
Man … I love tater tots

If you coat them in olive oil and cook them in a air fryer they're still safe to smoke 🚬
Another amazing video, thanks so much for doing the research and sharing your knowledge Thomas.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these foods. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
great information...Thank you! I agree with you.
This was a good video. I heard years ago from a butcher in a grocery store how bad Tilapia was and I never touched it from that day forward. It’s gross. You definitely taught me something new about the pudding, will be re-evaluating that option of food.
Great info thank you for sharing
Good list. Another one I've heard about being really bad is microwave popcorn. The inside lining of the bag leaks chemicals onto the popcorn. Not good

Great list!
Another very informative video. Yes some of my favorites are on the list and have to do some replacing. What about air frying fries, less oil, still a calorie bomb?
Awesome info, thanks

Genetics play more of a role than diet, exercise, etc.
It’s more why put a poison in your body to start with. Sure, some people have survived Heroin addiction too but odds are against most.

Nice one... I completely agree and have found the same with these choices...
I may have a taste of wine every once in a while. But everything else I definitely agree. One million percent which you on.
❤❤Good VIDEO! Thanks for Sharing ❤
What an idiot
Interesting with the polysorbates. As a chemist, polysorbates (are coming from petrol byproducts) are very strong emulsifiers (I actually even avoiding it is skincare) while lecithin was the first emulsifier ever made, can be made from corn/eggs etc.

How does msg on a steak enhance it??? Just avoid the garbage

MSG will cause high blood pressure. People who comsume a lot of it have a higher risk of stroke and heart attack. MSG naturally exists in many foods to begin with.

I agree. When I eat at Asian restaurants that use copious amounts of MSG I become violently ill

Yeah, I'm a lot less concerned about this one, since it exists naturally in most savory umami flavors. Maybe processed MSG causes some people problems.
@@dreimann Definitely, really no different than salt, too much of anything is bad.
Love this idea!! Will have to try it. Thanks!!!
I dont touch them since bill gates had is hands on them everything he touches is poison
4:12 i like sweets like i LIKE sweets a lot alot and i cant afford some of the fancier sweeteners but the house-brand splenda from walmart and krogers are more affordable for me and i use it in a lot of things… i make my own flavored yogurt using thawed strawberries from the freezer section, plain Greek yogurt and sucralose sweetener and it honestly tastes so much better than the ready made flavored yogurts on the market and I get to control what goes into it
I think the list could be a lot, lot longer.

How about Fresh cut Potatoes made into Fries baked in small amount of either Extra Virgin Olive oil/ Organic Coconut oil?
He listed *McDonald's* french fries, not french fries in general.
Acrylamide forms with any starchy food cooked at high temp. The freshness of the potato or the type of oil doesn't matter. That being said, your version would be better than McDonald's because it would be less oxidized oil and free of preservatives.

Thomas DeLauer's video on the seven foods he'll never eat again highlights his commitment to health and well-being, grounded in a mix of solid scientific evidence and personal health philosophy. Here are the key takeaways:

I love french fries but make them as healthily as I can - I eliminated all things McDs 20 years ago. I rarely drink wine but sometimes I do drink red wine.

It also makes the opposite sex more attractive.
Or you think you do 😎.
Exactly this. The dosage is the issue. Western fear of MSG is insane. It's just salt made from seaweed rather than rock salt.
Also, between a quarter and a third of wheat protein is glutamic acid, the amino acid part of MSG.
16:34 We always hear about the damages to the liver with alcool consumption, but what we rarely hear about
is the damages to the whole digestive tract, especially the stomach and small intestines, who will absorb most of
the alcool being consummed.
Weekly consumption of alcool in the long term destroys the parietal cells of the stomach (there are studies about that),
the cells that produces our gastric hydrochloric acid, wich is primordial for a good digestion. The less gastric acid production
we have, the more we are at risk for pathogen bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and bad assimilation of nutrients, wich leads to carencies
and premature aging. Alcool does not prolong life, it shortens it.
