@@123cbman my dad told me that astronomy was something great to have as a hobby, but not really something one makes a living doing.
It was 1995 and I was enrolled in a freshman Intro to Astronomy class. For the lab project, my lab mates and I went to the lab classroom and painted the walls with glow in the dark paint in the pattern of the constellations. For the presentation, we killed the lights and the room glowed. The PHD professor, a stereotypical PHD astronomy, tenured professor was absolutely giddy
I’m totally cool saying it was my idea, but we wouldn’t have followed thru without my lab mates.

Darkest hours of our civilization? This is the best time in the history of humanity to be alive. How could you possibly see this as the darkest hour? That blows my mind. Do you want to go back and be a subsistence farmer, scraping and existence out of the land, you a few cows a couple sheep a goat maybe? Or do you want to be a hunter-gatherer, roaming the land looking for stuff to eat? We've got it made in the shade man, we can work an easy job, get paid money, we could buy a car drive around, we could go to the grocery store and buy any kind of food you can imagine, we can have stainless steel posts put into our jaws and have almost better than real teeth put into our mouths, we can have our knees replaced, we can have our hearts replaced, livers lungs eyeballs, the phone you hold in your hand has the knowledge of the world in it, and this is the darkest hour? What kind of world do you live in? Mine is f****** awesome!

I had a job with Rockwell International in Seal Beach as a satellite technician. I was told I had a job for life. The first shuttle blew up, and it took my condo in Huntington Beach with it. I was saddened by the loss of my beautiful condo overlooking the marina. I have never had the opportunity to own such a property again. Now those properties are going for $600,000 or more. It was a lesson to me that you must own a sustainable source of income first before buying any properties. I, in later life, became homeless, and almost died twice in 2020. I am in a much better place now and preparing for a better future, but it is so hard. I feel sad for those who lost their jobs and failed, but it is what life is made of. Life is not without its challenges, and that is what makes it worth living. Those who overcome, understand what true success is.
