Fun Fact: Stevie Nicks wrote this song and planned to include it on her 1980 solo album Bella Donna. She didn't have room for it on the album, so she held it over for Fleetwood Mac's Mirage album. By this time, her friend Robin Anderson was dying of leukemia and the song became a tribute to her.
I don't know why we don't talk about Lindsey Buckingham enough as far as being one of the greatest guitarists out there, his playing is so beautiful and emotional and even though he has a really great voice his guitar work is what makes him so special, y'all should check out Silver Springs live and see how he answers Stevie's heartache with his equally aching guitar✌🍂🧡
When she wrote Landslide and the part about the "snow-covered hills," she was sitting in a house in Aspen, Colorado that had these large floor-to-ceiling windows, and she saw her reflection in one of the windows overlaid on the mountains in the distance.
Stevie learned to sing from her grandfather, A. J. Nicks, who had aspired to be a country music star but didn't make it. He taught her to sing harmony when she was just four years old. He'd take her to bars to sing together, and he'd put her up on the bar or a table, and they'd knock out a tune or two. He was pretty much responsible for putting her on the road to her future success.
Morning guys! You made my whole day! I needed that! This song holds a special place in my heart❤... when I was 15, I left a very bad situation from Santa Cruz California to eugene oregon. I bought a one way ticket not knowing a soul there...the whole bus ride,( I felt free and a little scared like i kinda like i was a "gypsy" "free") and i listened to gypsy on repeat in my disc player the whole ride. I Got there and one of the first things I did was get "Free spirit"tatted on my arm...( I've been going through some personal stuff lately, and this was a good reminder of the free spirit I was and still am. And I can battle the "ghosts of the past" that have been coming up...Thank you❤ much love, guys!!❤🤗🤗
I love that story, Krista! Admittedly I’ve had a hard time hearing this song over the past few years. My ex best friend loved it and named her dog Gypsy, so this song still reminds me of her. Our friendship ended badly and there’s been a lot of hurt that I’ve been trying to work through since then. But I’m going to try to remember your story instead… to replace the sadness I’ve felt with the positivity that it’s brought to you 😊💕
@ShanLH5 aw I'm so sorry to hear that...that is so hard...I know how that feels. I feel honored and glad that my memory can help ease some of the pain associated with the song. Hugs friend🤗
This my absolute favorite Mac tune. Great reaction. I am a guitarist and have played in my share of bands. I used to tape Stevies pics on the floor of the stage near my effects pedals so I could looked down and see her.
Hey from Birmingham! So glad y’all did this song. I was born in 76 and this is the first song that I can remember from my childhood. It brings back so many memories!
Love some Fleetwood Mac. Only thing I can put on that my wife likes too. I’m a metal head so she loves it when I sing Fleetwood with my death metal voice. 😂
One of the biggest hits by the band, “Gypsy” is both a nostalgic reflection on Stevie Nicks’s free-spirited life before joining Fleetwood Mac and a tribute to her late friend, Robin Snyder Anderson.
I saw them live in Toronto in the early 90s and they didn't miss a beat. Stevie was just as gorgeous as ever. It always amazed me how they got over all the bitterness but I'm glad they did. Great reaction and Peace out guys 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
I may be wrong, but I think gypsy derived from Egyptian. I believe it was a derogatory slur pertaining to mysterious and duplicitous. The whole curse thing and so on. It’s also where we get the phrase to be gypt out of something, which means to be tricked, con, or denied something by unfair means
Yep, Google says: The word "Gypsy" comes from the Middle English word gypcian, which is short for Egipcien. Egipcien comes from the Greek word Aigyptioi, which means "Egyptian". The word "Gypsy" was first used in 1574. The term "Gypsy" is an exonym, which means it is a name given to an ethnic group by outsiders. It comes from the mistaken belief that the Roma people, or a related group, were Egyptians who had been scattered among the nations by God. This belief may have come from verses in the Bible's Book of Ezekiel. The Roma people originated in the Punjab region of northern India and entered Europe between the 8th and 10th centuries. The Roma people in England and Wales refer to themselves as Romany, which is another term for the ethnic group.
it's definitely more a slur in europe than it is in america. there is a huge prejudice against romani people in places like england but honestly until recently i didn't even know it was a slur. we just dont have those same prejudices in america. here its used in a more positive connotation
Great review, as always. The Romany folks I know... some embrace and some loathe the name "Gypsy." A Roma or a Romany/Romani person would be safe verbiage to use unless you ask, which would be similar to asking a Jew if you could call them . Just better to not. And, as in the black community, slang/words they use within their community are not to be used or embraced by civilized folks outside of their community. Yeah, I'm all woke and shit. I'll wear that tag. Call me that all you want! I am not offended in the least. Even if you are not in my community. HAHA!
You guys are spending time enjoying the Buckingham/Nicks era of Fleetwood Mac, but there were two previous incarnations of the band. The original lineup featured Peter Green (Black Magic Woman, Green Manalishi, Oh Well) followed by Bob Welch (Hypnotized). The band had a different "feel" during each incarnation, but every one was a phenomenal musical journey.
Snow Covered Hills….It’s not literal….it’s like seeing a snow covered hill and it reminding you of yourself. Of how delicate a persons life is that things can just fall in a second like a snow slide from the hills.

"Big Love" The Dance. Lindsey has been done so wrong. I respect Stevie, but you wouldn't have been there without him. So I respect you less. Lindsey you got my heart❤.

That shake in her voice, the thing people call ‘goat’ is vibrato - she has amazing vibrato!
🌸 this is one of my very favorite Fleetwood songs
The video with Stevie dancing is the best !❤
I always felt like Stevie was telling me a story, sometimes joyful, sometimes tragic but always beautiful.
Y'all gotta see the music video. You'd love it hollywood!

Also has more romantic, mythical qualities in Irish,Celtic and Old English folklore.

Dude on the left as I watch - don't know your name, sorry, but your joy and enthusiasm is infectious. 🙂
Great track! 👍👍
Lindsay Buckingham can tickle his guitar!! He's phenomenal!!!
That's guitar at the end. The almighty Lindsey Buckingham. Oh by the way, Gypsy is a completely acceptable word.
Great band and tune. The first album I bought with saved allowances as a kid was Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. Been a fan ever since.

For real, I used to watch The Simple Life, Paris and Nicole were funny as fk on that show 🤣
Tyson Luke Fury (born 12 August 1988) is a British professional boxer. His wife's name is Paris, not Hilton though.
Pennywise Bro Hym needs to be heard by all especially by you!

As much as I like this song, I have to say my favorite is Storms!🌊🎤
Mushroomhead - Solitaire Unraveling please
Live is the same ❤😂🎉😮😊😮❤❤
NOW GO WATCH THE VIDEO 😁💖
Stevie Nicks 😊!
Actually, she says it's about how she lived before fame. Sleeping on a mattress on the floor and such.
"Roma" is the politically correct term for Gypsy but most people don't know what Roma is if you say it.
"Big Love" The Dance. Lindsey has been done so wrong. I respect Stevie, but you wouldn't have been there without him. So I respect you less. Lindsey you got my heart❤.
3rd 😅
