Another song of FM that I absolutely love is "Songbird", written by Christine McVie, and on which she is the lead singer. In fact, Christine wrote many of their biggest hits. RIP Christine...gone but never to be forgotten.

The live version from "The Dance" session in 1997 is AMAZING! Lindsey Buckingham is a guitar god, and he doesn't use a pick.

Before she and Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac, they were quite poor. Their mattress was on the floor, because they couldn't afford a proper bed. Hence: back to the floor that she loved. She decorated their apartment with some inexpensive lace and paper flowers. This song is about getting back to that (at least a little bit) before all the fame and craziness hit. It's also about her best friend from childhood, Robin Anderson, who died not too long before this song was recorded. "I still see your bright eyes," is about Robin. Finally, Stevie's dad was a corporate executive who took several jobs while she was growing up, so she was never in one place for very long. Her family lived all over the southwest, from Texas to Arizona to California. Coda: Christine McVie was the other woman in this iteration of Fleetwood Mac. She also wrote songs and sang lead on them, so Fleetwood Mac had three lead singers/songwriters. And their harmonies on each other's songs are amazing. They're a little bit like the Eagles in that respect, but much cooler.

And if you’re in a metal or heavy rock, then please please watch her video called. I can’t wait. It’s very straight up rock ‘n’ roll from 1988 and she kills it! It’s very bad ass and it was all over the charts. It’s a true rock song and I think you would appreciate it.

    You're a metalhead....try Fleetwood Mac's "Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown).
Fleetwood Mac has had three major incarnations since their inception as a British blues band, formed by legendary guitarist Peter Green in 1967. The band's name is derived from the last names of the drummer (Mick Fleetwood) and bass player (John McVie). They are the ONLY two original member that have remained constantly until the recent ending of the band following the demise of Christine McVie (singer/songwriter/keys).
1971-1974 brought the band to America and the addition of Bob Welsh (singer/songwriter/guitar) and the official induction of Christine Mcvie.
Welsh departed, and in search of a new guitarist, band leader Mick Fleetwood came across a track by the duo Buckingham/Nicks. He asked Lindsey Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac...Buckingham said he'd join, but he and partner Nicks came as a package. Upon a meeting of the whole band in a Mexican restaurant, Stevie Nicks instantly gained the approval of Christine McVie. There were no auditions.
The quintet of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks would propel the band to MEGA-stardom from 1975 onward. Their musical chemistry is supernatural.
BTW, there is no LEAD singer. Christine, Stevie and Lindsey are all A-level singer/songwriters, bringing a lot of diversity, sensational harmonies/backing vocals. (Keeps the albums from being boring....)
They absolutely KILL live. I've seen them 5 times!
    Subbed for the deep dive.

I like that you’re giving this a chance. As a metalhead I get it, but Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest bands of all time and Stevie Nicks is the goat of rock ‘n’ roll. She can sing circles around just about anyone her range and the depth of her voice is unparalleled even to this day. Gypsy about her losing her best friend to leukemia. So Stevie is saying now she is the single gypsy without her best friend. And when she’s saying that she’s in a room filled with some lace and paper flowers and back to the floor that I love. She’s talking about when she joined Fleetwood Mac and became very rich overnight she bought a very expensive apartment and decided to put her bed on the floor because she was used to being poor and she felt comfortable just sitting on her bedroom floor riding great music. So that’s what she means when she says she’s back to the floor that she loves. And the part where she says so I’m back to the Velvet Underground, she’s talking about a store in San Francisco. I believe that was Saldi’s amazing vintage clothing and she would go there and thrift and come up with these amazing outfits to wear on stage.

It's about pining for her life before fame, plus it's a tribute for her best friend who was dying of cancer.

Exactly!!! he thinks this is a breakup song, but it’s not. She’s talking about being the solo gypsy without her best friend Robyn. It’s a tribute to her best friend who died of leukemia. But you already know that lol

Sorry, I keep commenting but no, this is not a breakup song. It’s about losing her best friend and now she feels like the single gypsy out on her own without her best girlfriend.
