Not sure if this is the right place to ask you for a review of a singer, but I really enjoy your reviews. I would really like to see what you have to say about a song called "Oh it is not yet evening" by Diana Ankudenova. She is more mature with this one and she gives a listener goosebumps.
Nancy said in an interview that she played that guitar intro slightly different from show to show so it didn’t get monotonous. Killer guitarist and vocalist in her own right.
There are not enough superlatives in the world to describe Ann and Nancy Wilson. No surprise that in the 70's they were often called the female Led Zeppelin. And this concert was largely towards the start of their careers, so they hadn't yet spent decades perfecting their craft. Yet Ann can segway between siren and banshee and Nancy, likewise but on guitar. One of my favourite bands of all time...
The image of Nancy Wilson in the spotlight, hair blowing in the wind, so intimately and beautifully playing her guitar, is forever burned into my brain. And the way you can literally SEE and FEEL her gather up her rockstar aura for the beginning of the actual song is so powerful. An absolute icon. Then as she starts marching across the stage, the lights come up and the full band begins to play. Then, suddenly, Ann explodes onto the stage with so much power and presence and the song has begun in full. Best rock intro ever, without a doubt.
Nancy is one of the under-appreciated guitar maestros of the 1970s... the way she hits those harmonics without missing a beat... LOL, she makes it look easy!
I believe she’s in the top 10 of all guitarist. I will not argue the top 10 with you. Because there have been soooooooo many great guitarist in history.
It's a travesty that the Rock and Roll HOF waited until 2013 to induct them. Jimmy Paige actually talked about the disrepespect they got for years of not being recognized on a Sirius XM town hall years ago
@@janislundy1609, That's actually incorrect. Heart released "Alone", in the late 80's, in which Ann Wilson was lead vocals. "These Dreams" was only #1, for 1 week. "Alone", which Ann Wilson sings lead...was # 1 for 2 weeks. I know it drives people crazy. But, there wouldn't be a "Heart" to fawn over, without Ann Wilson. She and sister Nancy are the driving force of Heart. And while Nancy is an amazing guitar player, and yes...she can also sing. She is nowhere near the powerhouse vocalist Ann Wilson. Im so sick of people tearing down and overlooking Ann.
I always thought she killed the intro then Ann came in sounding like she was already out of breath. Still a great performance but it felt like what was about to be one of the most epic renditions ever turned to her sounding like she was struggling to get the notes out like a normal human. Meanwhile I've seen other live performances where she effortlessly killed it.
Ann's voice was a weapon in her prime - a female version of Robert Plant with even more range. Just amazing, and she was stunningly gorgeous and sexy too - a total rock goddess.
@@junkandcrapamen LOL Rock music isn't about technical perfection - it's about feel, soul and originality first of all, and Robert had a ton of all three, and also an insane range that no one could touch in the late 60's/early 70's before he suffered vocal cord damage. He also basically pioneered an entirely new rock vocal style - no rock singer sang in that type of high range with that much sexuality prior to Robert Plant. And since Robert was a huge influence and inspiration to Ann, I'm sure that she would wholeheartedly agree with your utterly asinine and disrespectful comment.
@@junkandcrapamen I was going to say, in this performance it sounds like Ann spent most of the first verse trying to pin down the key! She's dead on as she enters the first chorus.
Ann and Nancy together are unbeatable. Both are insanely talented and their harmonies are amazing. Nancy's guitar playing and creativity blow me away. Love me some heart😊😊
This era of their music was by far, the best imho. Roger Fisher, Howard Leese, the other Fisher bro, the drummer, keyboards, everyone just makes it so creative, so danged good all together. With the Wilson sisters in front, there weren't many, if any, who did it a whole lot better in their day. This was a dynamite line-up, every one of them did their part better than most.
I'm glad someone mentioned their harmony vocals. The way Nancy could/can shadow Ann's vocals through some fairly intricate melodic parts is just unreal.
Elizabeth, if you listen to different live versions of Anne singing, you will find that she changes the way she does the songs. She is an amazing vocalist. And Nancy... omg... I can't begin to give her the props she deserves for her guitar work.
It's 1977, I'm turning 18 today and ,( IATSE Local 695 )and I am doing my internship. My co-workers, arranged for Ann to sing Magic Man to me. Afterwards, backstage, she walks back during break and gave this new 18 year old his first kiss.Retired after a 38 year career as one of IATSE Local 695 Chief Engineers and will never forget that one day on the job.
Go! Yatzee Brothers. Worked along the Union Boys in Vegas for about 18 months. Anyone who can nap on a UniStrut catwalk during the opening act, before knockdown begins is literally the definition of a Working Stiff.
With a band they both called terrible, unprofessional, skill less amateurs who had no clue when to come in, read music or carry a tune properly. They got rid of all of them, and became a complete afterthought and relegated to "classic hit" tours. Sad really, their egos took over and they paid for it.
Yep eventually they fired or bitched about them enough they all left. Heart disappeared for several years after that then to salvage their careers they became Corporate Shills, and brought in corporate writers to write the drivel of the 80's as they became a sad image of whom they were with far less talented backing. Too bad, Ann always had the pipes. Last decade they have been fighting with each other on and off, doing their own gigs at small venues.
@user-el2nh5uo1w No, they never said that. Just fanboys stirring up shit. You can just look up Nancy praising Roger Fisher's style in an interview with Premier Guitar: "Roger is a really great, original guitar player. He was not a trained kind of a player, which is really one of the great things about him. He broke a lot of the molds that many players were stuck in and was a wild and wooly style of guitar player. I learned quite a bit from him about how to attack the electric, because I had always been an acoustic player. I wasn’t only an acoustic player, but I started playing the electric seriously with Heart. So he showed me a few ropes that really helped me along the way." And Ann praising Steve Fossen (bass) and Michael Derosier (drums) in a Professor of Rock video. Even with all the personal drama between them, Derosier has stated the sisters always trusted them to come up with their parts, not telling them how it should be. Not to mention Howard Leese of course who stayed with them for 23 years. Personal drama was what "broke" the band apart. And it's always good to remember every member of the band except one voted Roger out.
During Nancy's guitar intro, she started with the standalone piece "Silver Wheels". Then, during the opening of "Crazy On You", she mixed in some of the opening riff of "Hijinx". That was the bluesy part. So, you really heard her doing three different songs there.
Having seen these ladies live, I can attest to the soothing, almost hypnotic nature of hearing the amazing Nancy Wilson with an acoustic guitar in her hands. It's absolutely magical!!
What's really cool about that intro is that Nancy has said she improvised it every single time. She'd just do whatever she felt at the moment, then she'd roll that into the formal intro.
This is an excellent choice. The acoustic intro by Nancy Wilson is so unique and iconic with its flamenco influences; Nancy is absolutely an underrated guitarist. And Ann's voice! The fact that she is able to blend emotional expression and technique so seamlessly is the reason she is one of the best to ever do it. This is probably my favorite Heart song, and I'm so glad you picked it to react to!
:smiles: It certainly used to be the case but, amongst guitar players at least, I would say she is widely regarded as one of the best rhythm guitarists of the past generation or so.
It's what makes this band so special- the 2 sisters so good in of their musical disciplines. I would be hard pressed to favor either Ann or Nancy in their contribution to the band, people will always favor the voice of a band but that guitar playing is phenomenal! Awesome, thank you so much for sharing with us
I know I am in a very small minority here but Nancy's intros are too long in my opinion. I like them but not the length. For me they need to get to the song a bit quicker.
@@dallassukerkin6878 I certainly think she is regarded in that way now but back in the 70s not so much because she was a woman which is a bunch of baloney
I listened to your analysis of Ann Wilson singing Barracuda and loved it. I'm a former professional opera singer, voice teacher and graduate of the New England Conservatory. I love how Ann's very bright, forward tone and almost like she's biting every note she sings which I feel represents her feelings about that horrible rumor. Her incredible range was unmatched. Have you ever analyzed Steve Perry's voice from Journey. Another great singer! Thank you
No matter how many times I see it - Nancy's leg kick still throws me! Ann's passion comes through in every note. Almost like the words are directed at each person - individuallly.
I'm 61 years old and this is some of the music we listened to in Junior High, at parties and just chillin' with friends in the 70s. To see someone who is way, way younger then me enjoy it so much and who understands it from a professional standpoint and can explain it so even the least musically inclined of us can understand it is just great to watch. We just thought it was cool.
No, auto-tune, no in-ear monitors just pure unadulterated talent. I was a young lad when Heart came out and was just blown away by both sisters' talent.
What do you have against musicians hearing themselves? I guarantee the Wilson sisters used/use in ears when available. In ear monitors also make the sound better for the audience and easier to mix. The sound engineer doesn't need to worry about feedback onstage allowing for more volume, clarity and creativity.
@@junkandcrapamen It's pretty clear that you know something about sound engineering and that wattsun has never done live sound engineering or sung on stage. Anyone who ever has, knows that ALL singers want to hear themselves as clearly as possible. This has been done with monitors for a long time. Most people paid little attention to monitors until artists starting using headsets and in ear monitors. Now that the masses notice them, they imagine monitors did not exist prior to in-ears or that they were poor and only singers with "pure unadulterated talent" could sing in key.
@tessmage_tessera Side fill monitors have been in use since 1961. Specialized angled cabinets and separate monitor mixers have been in use since 1970s. Effects processing has been done since the 40s. You should look this stuff up before making uninformed assumptions.
@tessmage_tessera Maybe if you had been playing and recording as long as I have, (1974) your perspective on tech would be different. From my perspective, older hardware and methods can often be superior. For example, most in-ear monitors aren't as good as studio quality headphones. In-ear monitors are great for their versatility, compactness and aesthetics but they don't make you a better singer. Auto-tune and similar gimmicks are also over-hyped. In the past, vocalists recorded multiple tracks and comped the best into one take. Now they might adjust pitch digitally for minor corrections. It's just a way to save time. No studio technique is going to make a vocalist a better live performer. I am currently converting my studio to Pro Tools. To me, this system seems a hell of a lot more useful to engineers and producers than musicians. Maybe as I progress in proficiency, my attitude will change but right now I'm not overly impressed with any plugins or features that would give artists any significant advantages other than convenience and saving time over previous methods.
@tessmage_tessera If you have an excessively loud stage sound or like to move around a lot, I can see the advantage of in-ears. IMO if you can't hear conventional monitors, somebody is usually way too loud on stage. A wall of Marshalls looks cool, but it's overkill most of the time.
The Intro is called Silver Wheels. It can be found on the Bebe Le'Strange album. They usually played that as a lead in to Crazy On You because it worked so well (it's on their Greatest Hits/Live album that order as well). She even throws in a little "Hijinx" from Dog & Butterfly in the partially improvised opening licks.
Years ago, a good friend had a stint playing in Heart. This gave me the amazing opportunity to meet both Ann and Nancy. Even after my friend moved on to another band, I continued to see them every time we were in the same city. I treasure the memories those two angels (plus Ben, Craig and Disco Debbie), gave me. They are so genuine, kind, and lead everything with love. Plus, I got to meet Carrie Underwood and share her 21st birthday because of Ann and Nancy.
Ann Wilson is the greatest to ever do it. And Nancy is a LEGEND and a great musician and singer in her own right. Heart deserves so much more respect in the music world
How amazing and iconic is Nancy Wilson's opening? The rhythm she sets without percussion is so clever, and the improvisations she includes are off the charts.
Clearly, Ann & Nancy were a tremendous force. Shoutout to the rest of that amazing band!!! Those guys are seriously overlooked. This is an epic performance.
I don't know from the perspective of a teenage young lady back in the 70's, the guys were like "ken dolls". lol. To me it was all about Ann and Nancy. My idols forever.
One of the things I love about this performance is that the band members have been playing together long enough to really work well together. They have been performing this song long enough to knock off the rough edges. They haven’t been playing it for so long that they are bored and just going through the motions. A lot of reaction videos use performances from later in a band’s or solo artist’s careers when the performers have passed their primes. Everybody is at their peak here and it shows.
This was Heart’s first single. It barely cracked the Top 40, but garnered FM airplay that got them on the map. Their follow-up single “Magic Man” became their breakthrough hit.
I love Magic Man. I had a Magic Man (or so I thought at the time) of my own. We used to listen to this and Magic Man All the time. God I miss my youth l, jamming to Led Zeppelin and Heart, Scorpions, Cheap Trick, what a time in music to come of age. I have legit mild hearing loss from those days and loud car stereos, plus metal shows for decades. I regret nothing and still see shows every summer with my older son & his gf. I will go see live shows until they plant me. 🙌😎😂
Ann's voice is like the sea. It can be calm and relaxing, and can be big and tremendously powerful. Even when she's singing the beginning of this song, you can feel the anticipation of something large and powerful on its way.
I've never seen her play that acoustic opening the same but I can't describe how fire it is. The wind in her feathered hair, her aggressive play style, the vocals , oh lord the whole thing is a bad ass blast.
Yeah, I saw her in an interview where she was showing “how to play it” and she says she always plays it a little different each time, which I think gives it even more of that cool bluesy flavor.
First and foremost, thank you for giving Nancy her due. I know that as the Charismatic Voice, we’re here for the reaction to the vocalists, but the acoustic guitar work in this song helps accentuate the power of Ann’s vocals. I’m always reminded of one article I read about Heart many years ago. Nancy’s nickname growing up was Whiz-Fingers and no song showcases how on the nose this nickname was better than this one one, and this version in particular. The intro is not part of the studio version, it’s a melodic and graceful treat that she crafted to, as you said, transition into the meat of this song. When it gets a little blues riffs start kicking in, that’s the start of the canonical song intro. And long-time fans pick up on the traditional sections of the song. That said, Ann’s vocals are amazing when she comes in. What an amazing, powerful voice.
There's a video on UA-cam where she gives a step by step lesson on how to play this intro. The lesson was great but mostly she's just a real sweetheart. It really showcased her personality and humbleness.
Yep. Chills and goosebumps. BTW, I found out last week that Ann moved from Washington 3 years ago and now lives less than an hour from my house. I feel blessed to be near The Goddess of Rock!
Watched Heart blow ELO off the stage back in the summer of 1978, and ELO killed it that night themselves. They only had 45-50 minutes as the opening act, and they pretty much avoided any balladry. Ann just beat the audience into submission with her vocals that night. Still one of the greatest individual performances in a band setting I've ever seen.
Ann Wilson has titanium vocal cords. Her voice has been matched by only a very few good singers over the years. Thank you Elizabeth for a great analysis! It rocked!
Your commentary at the beginning. 'This is so pretty, I love the way it sets up the ambience'. I literally said out loud. "Wait a minute hun, you ain't heard nothing yet!'. Just discovered you today and you are an excellent channel. Thank you.
Heart is hands down one of the single best rocks groups of all time, full stop. They weren't just inspirational to women, but to generations of musicians.
Anne has one of the most incredible voices in rock music and an insane range that very few people are able to do and make it sound like it was no big deal.
Criminally underrated band, and I mean a band collectively, they were super tight back in the day, they put anything out there today to shame. I never really thought, oh wow look at those two girls, they just kicked total ass, just amazing musicians. I grew up on all this stuff and didn't realize how freaking good it was, you'll never hear anything like this again, todays music is garbage.
I have always been so impressed by her precision. So many singers have to slide into notes so they don't land flat, or sharp (but usually flat). When she slides into notes, it's entirely an artistic choice, but when she wants to hit a note clean, she just hits it. Such a phenomenal vocalist.
I was very young when this song would play on my older brother's alarm-clock radio as we went to sleep. Have absolutely loved it ever since. Never heard this version. Thanks for sharing it and love your analysis and reactions!!
To my mind, this is the best video of all time. Nancy's intro is amazing and iconic. Ann's voice is one of the best ever. The song is wonderful. The performance is unbelievable, and the way it was filmed and the look of everything on stage is perfect. And the wind blowing their hair is the cherry on top.
I learned to play this riff in 1976, a friend showed me how to do it. In 1992 I went into a guitar shop to buy my son an acoustic guitar for Christmas and played the riff. I got a round of applause. 😄
I grew up with Heart. I loved them. But I never really appreciated their true skill. I love "Crazy on Me." But I only know the version on the album. This shows me that there is far more to their musical skills than my teenage self ever realized. At first I was angry you didn't do the album version. But now I am grateful. Thank you.
I love the live versions of Crazy on You, as they all seem to open with Nancy just playing the main riff and then whatever the hell she feels like mixing it up with. Just phenomenal playing. Ann's vocals on this track have just incredible, intense, passionate emotion to them. There's an edge of desperation, almost unhinged, desire behind her singing on this track.
There WAS unhinged desire. She was singing about her lover who had been in the band and was their manager ...and who eventually jilted her. The Magic Man.
*_The Wilson Sisters didn't mess around being a cute girl band for 'Crazy On You'_* From the beginning with Nancy's enormous guitar riff and Ann's gigantic vocals you know this song is going to rock. They didn't disappoint. This one song put the band on the map around the world. Song is still as relevant today as it was in 1976 when it was first released. This song and the Album "Dreamboat Annie" sold millions of records. Song spanned multiple genres and it had good ratings on multiple Billboard Ratings around the world. *_Thank you for another amazing professional review of the band Heart_*
Found you a couple hours ago by accident and can't quit watching your vids! Im a musician myself, but you are helping me to see things I haven't before in music. LOVE LOVE LOVE your personality and excitement for music!!!!!! It's contagious!
This whole band is amazing. The combined vocals in that pre-chorus are powerful - a springboard for Ann. All of the instrumental work is stellar. A friend was the sound engineer for another famous band of the day. He was invited by Heart's sound company to hear Heart in some stadium, in the hope that he would choose their sound system for his band's next tour. Knowing nothing about Heart, he expected to technically assess the system. He did not expect to be blown away by the band. In answer to my question, his response was, "Yeah, they actually are that good". Thanks for reviewing this gem from my youth.
You really really need to watch them cover The Battle of Evermore. It really shows Nancy's chops as well as Ann's. I get chills every time I listen to it.
Absolutely, Roger, Howard, all of them together were a force to be reckoned with. Nothing they did after this lineup broke up was as good. Don't get me wrong, they still have so much talent, the sisters, but this was the best lineup imho. 💯🔥
i saw them live back in 2008. hands down, best live performance i’ve ever seen. ann didn’t miss a note, neither did nancy. they were unbelievably good.
Ann had great vocal lessons to teach her how to sing this way 40 years later...One of my favourite singers! It helps having such great pipes to enhance them. *shivers*
I've probably seen hundreds of concerts at this point in my life and Ann Wilson is by far the best female vocalist that I've ever seen/heard live. And I've seen Heart three times, so it wasn't like she just happened to have one really good show.
You are SO lucky you got to see them live! I finally saw Ann Wilson on her own last year. Ridiculous! She still blew the audience away all these years later.
I love her, but not the best. I’ve got a whole slew of singers with better chops in my head, but when it comes to rock she’s in the top five ever women of rock. I rank her second to Pat Benatar and possibly Amy Lee. When Tina Turner does a rock song then I can heap her on top too. Ann does a lot of yelling in hard songs and you’ll find her inconsistent depending on when you hear her. I’ve seen her live several times over the decades and she is really good, but records better. Dog and Butterfly is one of my favorite songs ever, so I’m a big fan, just being objective.
@@perrysoesbee7227 Whenever you get into the "great" category, it comes down largely to personal preference. I'd put Annie Lennox, Linda Ronstadt, Gladys Knight, Siouxsie Sioux (of Siouxsie and the Banshees), Florence Welch (Florence + the Machine), Shirley Manson (Garbage), Tina Turner, and Pat Benatar in the upper echelons. I have a few favorites in that list, but again that's just personal taste.
@@richardnanian6075 definitely personal taste. I would put Linda Ronstadt in front of her.. maybe Pat Benatar because she is classical trained. But Linda could literally sing anything.. even in Spanish! I think she rules
You've covered some of Hearts biggest hits (and some of my favorite Heart songs!). But if you want to hear a different side of Ann's singing I'd suggest you check out some of her 'mellower' songs, such as Dreamboat Annie, or Dog and Butterfly...
Just recently she and Nancy have failed to make the top 200 greatest singers according to Rolling Stone ( end of 2022) . Rolling Stone should and their Z generation idiot judges should be expelled to the trash can.. complete morons
Its amazing how moving a powerful performance can be. Its always inspiring to see skilled humans giving their very best right in the moment when it counts. That is why live music played with real instruments will always be the benchmark. It requires the musicians to bring all of their talent to bare at that exact point along with their bandmates. No second chances, no do-overs, nail it or nothing.
I saw Heart in 1978 and they were phenomenal. Ann's voice is amazing live and Nancy is a brilliant acoustic guitar player. I remember Ann played the flute, she was great. The whole band was excellent and the crowd was mesmerized. I can't say enough about Ann's vocals, so powerful yet melodic and soft at the same time.
Those early Heart arrangements also deserve recognition. There are many rhythmically and sonically contrasting sections to this song, but they all build on each other and form a great landscape for all of Anne's amazing tones and acrobatics to sail through. A lot of the guitar parts are iconic on their own, too, from the opening acoustic (always improvisational but drawn out a bit more here by the dissonant stuff) to the riff that introduces the electric sounds to that little "sparkly" phrase and then the dual guitars plus vocal harmonies toward the end. It's like an intense funhouse ride that I first got to ride at age 12 and am still thrilled to re-experience at 59.
The vocals on this song are mind blowing. I could only imagine seeing this live. And when Nancy backs up and then explodes into the chords at the end of her showcase is AWESOME!
Nancy is a sweetheart. She taught me to play so many songs for nothing, just for kicks. A true bard. When she does this song, her intro up until right before it rocks-out is always ad-lib for fun.
you should also listen to her voice on the studio track. One really great moment is how her scream at 16:22 genuinely sounds like a guitar on the track. It's only until that 3rd chorus that you realize it's her voice.
You were talking about the power of a choir... I joined the Las Vegas Men's Chorus this year and it's been an incredible experience singing in a group of people again. Haven't been in a choir since high school. I enjoy your critiques of these great vocalists.
Best choice for Heart ever! Ann and Nancy Wilson are the most incredible artists I've ever witnessed live. This entire performance is among my top favorite performances of any band of any era. That good!
Usually I prefer the album version of a song to the live one, with two or three notable exceptions. But this blew the album version out of the water to the point where I noticed myself shaking my head in wonder. 12/10 for far, far exceeding my expectations. Elizabeth your commentary made the performance even better. Thank you.

Ann's voice was a weapon in her prime - a female version of Robert Plant with even more range. Just amazing, and she was stunningly gorgeous and sexy too - a total rock goddess.
And especially since her live voice was identical to studio voice! Definently a vocal legend
Lol no. Robert Plant sang flat quite often. Ann makes Plant look like an amateur.
@@junkandcrapamen
LOL Rock music isn't about technical perfection - it's about feel, soul and originality first of all, and Robert had a ton of all three, and also an insane range that no one could touch in the late 60's/early 70's before he suffered vocal cord damage.
They both have very sexy voices.
And, they are gorgeous. The Wilson sisters are pretty, too.
Wow, that's awesome!!
Worse ways to spend a birthday. 🎉
YES! This song was the moment they ruled the earth as a band when I was a kid in the 70s
With a band they both called terrible, unprofessional, skill less amateurs who had no clue when to come in, read music or carry a tune properly. They got rid of all of them, and became a complete afterthought and relegated to "classic hit" tours. Sad really, their egos took over and they paid for it.
@@toddstevens13 is that what happened? Damn, their first two albums were great.
You can just look up Nancy praising Roger Fisher's style in an interview with Premier Guitar:
"Roger is a really great, original guitar player. So he showed me a few ropes that really helped me along the way."
And Ann praising Steve Fossen (bass) and Michael Derosier (drums) in a Professor of Rock video.
You know I keep trying to see if you learn anything but like this song u destroy it
During Nancy's guitar intro, she started with the standalone piece "Silver Wheels". Then, during the opening of "Crazy On You", she mixed in some of the opening riff of "Hijinx". That was the bluesy part. So, you really heard her doing three different songs there.
and did I hear some bebe le strange?
Exactly right, I'm going to bow out now and listen to the studio recording of hijinx right now, i have not heard that in years.
She was definitely having fun with the lead in
@@jan-reiniervoute6701 some of what became bebe le strange.
...And I wouldn't doubt she came up with it right there and then.
Having seen these ladies live, I can attest to the soothing, almost hypnotic nature of hearing the amazing Nancy Wilson with an acoustic guitar in her hands. It's absolutely magical!!
Hearing you explain Ann's voice from a scientific perspective is so awesome. Ann really is the best too.
@Guen..I completely agree with your statement about Nancy being an underated guitarist.saw heart in 2019 and they both still absolutely got it.
Ann still gives me literal chills down my spine...
@@EgoShredder Nooo! Good Chills! Lean into them.

"chills down your spine" is a metaphor, I promise you- the temperature of your spine is not "literally" dropping when you hear this song.
@@JeffPDX1 Go away, Jeff......
Same I actually lost my mind when she performed Wakken I was like oh my freaking god watched the performance like 3 times in a row.
Ann Wilson's voice when she takes it to the stratosphere actually gives me real goose bumps every time. Really..
Nancy still does the kick.
Her mannerisms are of Jimmy Page ilk . Nancy's
Ah yes the leg kick that helped kick start puberty for many boys... and she absolutely still does it and looks incredible doing it...
@@WastedTalent- My sister and I saw Heart in 2019(Joan Jett opened!) and Nancy did her kick! Amazing!!!
@@theodosios2615I pant for both sisters.
Bebe lestrange 😊
Heart deserves so much more respect in the music world
Most Musicians I have known, and I have known a lot, give full respect to this band. They are legendary for us rockers.
Seems like just yesterday...
What good times those were...
Band & Guitar player is tremendous .
Love how he shredding that guitar ,
Heart was really under rated in the Rock & Roll era 70's !
Roger Fischer was a phenomenal guitarist. One of the best.
Wow, stellar description!! TY for that visual.
The two most talented women in rock history, right here
I've never seen her play that acoustic opening the same but I can't describe how fire it is.
I saw a video of Nancy saying that she has never played the intro to this song the same way EVER. My heavens, how great is she!
One of the best guitarists ever. It's a crime against humanity that she hasn't been recognized anywhere NEAR as much as she deserves.
Ann is one of the very few singers that has impeccable diction. To understand and feel every word she sings has never been a challenge.
Keep sniffing and you shall smeltz. 👍
Nancy's guitar work is _next_ next level, fluid and fiery! 🔥🔥🎸🎸

You cannot beat Ann live. She is a killer
And later that summer they were touring as the headliner with Walter Egan as the opening act.
If that's your real name....I want to be your Agent. It doesn't matter what you do. I'll get you gigs. Great name! 🔥

Ann Wilson is so good she can even take on Led Zeppelin songs and crush it. Has done for many years actually. Legend.
Ann Wilson has titanium vocal cords. Her voice has been matched by only a very few good singers over the years.

This was my era, and I got to see Heart live. I consider Heart to be one of the best rock bands ever, period.
Ann Wilson's is one of the most beautiful female voices in history. The way she controls everything, even the chaos, gives you chills.
I have always been so impressed by her precision. So many singers have to slide into notes so they don't land flat, or sharp (but usually flat). When she slides into notes, it's entirely an artistic choice, but when she wants to hit a note clean, she just hits it. Such a phenomenal vocalist.
You will absolutely love , Heart, Straight On. Their voices together is nothing short of spectacular.
Greatest female vocals ever, unmatched! Back when a show was a show.
Ann and Nancy changed rock and roll. Definitely opening doors for other ladies.Congrats on your baby 🍼🐥.

YES! That is such an epic song. That has always been one of my top fave Heart songs. So underrated as far as public exposure.
Must be the original studio version with Nancy, Roger, and Michael on guitars, though. Their interplay with Ann's voice is integral to the song.
Agreed.... but the studio version.... the bass notes are incredible!!!

The whole of the "Dreamboat Annie" album is well worth a complete listen
That intro is an absolute knuckle buster. Hard as nails to play. Legendary performances from everyone involved
Deservedly so!

There was nothing like this at the time. The transitions and Annes voice. Still arguably one of the best songs of all time.
Love your analyses of Heart! Arguably the best female rock band of all time!
I grew up with Heart. I loved them. But I never really appreciated their true skill. I love "Crazy on Me." But I only know the version on the album. This shows me that there is far more to their musical skills than my teenage self ever realized. At first I was angry you didn't do the album version. But now I am grateful. Thank you.
This is my favorite version of Crazy On You. Love that intro and she made that opening kick her signature.
*_The Wilson Sisters didn't mess around being a cute girl band for 'Crazy On You'_*
From the beginning with Nancy's enormous guitar riff and Ann's gigantic vocals you know this song is going to rock. They didn't disappoint. This one song put the band on the map around the world. Song is still as relevant today as it was in 1976 when it was first released. This song and the Album "Dreamboat Annie" sold millions of records. This song is practically orgasmic in Ann's vocal intensity, and Nancy's guitar work is epic. One of my favorite songs from my favorite band...
Totally agree!

This was by far the best Heart line up. Nancy and Ann always get the recognition but the band as a whole was just stellar.
Ann Wilson's voice is like a JET engine: Smooth and powerful from strong lows to soaring highs with no weak points at all.

Doesn’t Nancy look so epic when she hits that groove. What a rockstar.
Ann and Nancy are both outstanding musicians in their own right. Absolutely fantastic!
My new daily dose of happiness. Nice to hear someone express what I've felt for decades. :)
I love Ann. She is the greatest female voice ever IMO.
Not just the best female vocalist. The best vocalist. Period.
Pat Benatar a close second!

Whenever you get into the "great" category, it comes down largely to personal preference.

Just recently she and Nancy have failed to make the top 200 greatest singers according to Rolling Stone ( end of 2022) . Rolling Stone should and their Z generation idiot judges should be expelled to the trash can.. complete morons
For 40 years, without fail, that change in riff intro has brought goose bumps to me … today it still does so too.
Lucky you. I'd like to go bak in time and see them in that time period.
Heart was the first concert I ever went to. My parents took me to them when I was six years old. It was awesome!
One of the best intros to a rock song EVER! Nancy Wilson absolutely kills that intro! Legendary! 🙌🏽
This is one of those performances that’s so awesome that I’m sure had I been present, would have been shedding whole tears over how awesome it was
I saw the Dog and Butterfly tour in 1978 (and several other times) and this intro was and ALWAYS is epic!!
I was watching this!
IMHO, the guitar intro/opening is the best part of the performance.
Thank you.
