man... I was wondering what happened with my car as it had the same issue... now thanks to your video it is fixed...
My car just started doing it...so I'm sitting in my car with my boyfriend and I was telling him about it and then I looked it up and stumbled upon this video and the whole time was like "wow yea mine too!"

These cars are trash. Compare them to a BMW or a Mercedes of same year. European cars have quality and design in them.

Recently @ 213,000 + mi. my 2000 Impala started doing this same thing. I began toggling between ODO & Trip when it started to work again. Do you know what contacts to clean, and where they are located?
UA-cam is very resourceful because after tapping on the dash I was able to get the lights to show on my 02 Monte Carlo. Lol.... Thanks for sharing! 👍🏾

Just an FYI for anyone new seeing this. The contacts are behind the gauge. There's literally only ONE plug back there in the front right corner. You cant possibly miss it.
Unbolt the dash, unbolt the cluster, pull it out, un-do the plug, I used WD-40 contact cleaner. Plug back in. Bolt cluster back. Bolt dash back.
Might take all of 30 mins if its your first time. Shouldnt have anymore problems unless you have/are developing a short. 😁👍

@@Freaknasty187 you dont need a video. Or, search how to take the dash off. Once you get it off you'll see the 4 bolts holding the cluster on. Once its unbolted and you start to try to remove the cluster, the one and only wire will hold you up until you unclip it. That's it. Clean the contacts on both and plug your old one back in. If it works, cool, if it doesn't, go to pull a part, get another cluster for like 25 bucks, and plug it in, if it works, cool, if it doesnt, return it and get another cluster (since you can do this in the parking lot in like 5 minutes), if it works cool, if it doesn't then you know its NOT the cluster and you got something else going on.
My 2005 impala has same proble.. I will try this hopefully itll work on my car

Saw your UA-cam video cause I had the same problem. I was so shook when I saw I just had to tap on it 😂 I mean I already had to hit the hazard lights to get my signals to work 😂
I'm having the same problem with my 2002 Impala but along with it is the radio lights and the lights in the compass/thermometer on the ceiling. could that all be the same problem?

My buddy has an '05 Impala SS, and the left half of them are lit up (Half the mileage, and R & D .. but the rest is dark. ... Think if he tries 'the tap', the characters on the right side will turn on?

Is the speedometer of this vehicle backlit? Mine doesn't light up at night so it can be hard to know exactly how fast I am going.
I got a 2001 Chevy impala and the gas gauge is passed the F and comes back about half tank and does not show what gear im in or the mileage what should I do?

I'm sorry that I haven't responded to these old videos I made. I did replace it. I don't remember what company I use but it was online. They gave me a replacement and they transferred the miles on to it. But then I got rid of the car, so that was that I sold it for $300
I checked for burned bulbs. Bulbs are good. I replaced my dimmer switch and it still does it. Any ideas?

Dont buy a chevy impala, problem solved, ps,, i also have the same problem w my dash, lights eventually are so dim you wont see them no matter how hard you hitt the dash, also your cooling fan is shot, expensive fix, my suggestion is never take it to the dealer....
What a complete waste of time....... I'll never get that back. Go sit in the corner
