If you dig this project you have to check out the handles! ua-cam.com/video/TCCrJOWolN0/v-deo.html
The door turned out fantastic! I certainly learned from this...thanks! What basic power carving tools should I start with please? I'm currently building my first workshop and storage...primarily free because I've been scouring marketplace! I really appreciate it when you guys share your mistakes because it makes it less intimidating
Looks awesome guys!
Regarding sound - sealing all the air gaps will reduce sound, so adding door gasket / weather stripping to all the seams will greatly help with Ms Piggy’s grunting. Keep up the fun work!
She is very grunty!
Same recommendation I was going to make.
I also came to the comments to recommend weather stripping. Sound proofing is a game of small changes that add up to big changes - those little details really make a difference.
Doors look awesome!
Exactly what I was going to say
Sound waves are pressure waves they need to be blocked and absorbed to sound proof properly
I built a sound proof room for my drumset/ music recording and I used MLV (mass loaded vinyl) between two layers of drywall on top of heavy sound dampening insulation to sound proof. For example: insulation, drywall, MLV, drywall. It works pretty well, some sound gets out but not much. Putting things on the wall like foam diffusers or even build some wooden diffusers could potentially help absorb some sound waves as well. Its also important to seal all air gaps so sound waves dont get through. I also recommend putting a sound proof door behind that beautiful door you just made!
Love your videos and products. Keep up the amazing work.
This is great thank you cory!
Awesome guys, hope this vid hits millions of views for ya, so well deserved. John I’m always impressed with your talents, that tree drawing and carve is on point. 👍
Thank you my friend! It was a fun one!
Looks amazing, the tree carving really adds to the look.
You guys never cease to amaze me. Those doors turned out awesome. Can't wait to see you forge handles for it out of axes.
John, you did a great job on this. I totally feel the Lord of the Rings vibe with this door. It’s beautiful. It’s your own work. You didn’t copy you didn’t do any of that. You made your own Lord of the Rings type door. It’s just gorgeous.
Beautiful! I would definitely add a 3rd hinge about a 1" under that top one. Those things are massive!
Those are absolutely beautiful amazing work on them John and team.
Thanks Chad
Beautiful work, guys! 😃
Really fantastic looking carve, John!!!
Stay safe there with your families! 🖖😊
I'VE WAITED SO LONGGG FOR SOMEONE TO DO EXACTLY THIS!!!!!!!!!!! do you have more information on how you went about everything? like lumber thickness for the doors, the panels in the doors as well, maybe a rough time frame for completion? i love this soooo much, you MUST do more doors! next challenge should be 3 levels of carved doors! single doors are fine vs double to be a bit easier on yas. i need more inspiration for the double doors on a cabinet im working on as well as a single bathroom one and a basement one
Love the doors almost as much as the sacrificial Sawstop blades on the wall.
If you want to kill the sound to the outside, the best thing to do is build a room inside of a room. That's what most studios will do with their control rooms, live rooms, and vocal booths. Not only that, studios will double up their doors. It sounds weird but it works very well. If yinz have any questions, I live in the Pittsburgh area and would be more than happy to answer any questions/ give you advice on what you can do.
Carving a tree on the doors is so meta! Well done John, I like the carving.
Thanks Shmang!
Oh i have been wanting more customization and detailing like this
I have to say John i am impressed with this build! Looks amazing good job!
I am glad! Thank you my friend
This might be my favorite of all the projects you guys have done.
I feel like a Squirrel made of something should sit upon one of the branches. I will say, after watching most all of your content I am most impressed with this. At the start of the video I thought for sure the CNC would be used for the carving. Nope, you did it by hand. This is going to sound bad, but I expect the quality of work you put out with the skill level someone in your profession should have and the tools you have at your disposal. The way you threw a pencil and a grinder at this door, free hand mind you, takes you to a whole other level in my book especially when you consider the depth you ended up with this relatively thin piece. So cool.
The doors are great looking. I love the new shop and how far you have come since I first watched you
New shop starting to come up great. Can’t wait for some big projects!
John, Switch to the Precision PLS-024 Magnetic catches instead of ball catches. They work better, and never don't loosen up over time. The require a forstner bit and a Phillips bit to install.
That hysterical laugh @13:32 got Sam like super worried, but it was really funny 🤣
beautiful doors and the carving is amazing, perfect just the way it is. If you want easy home made sound dampening make frames and fill them with mineral wool insulation then cover in fabric, alternaively you can buy self adhesive foam sound dampening that they use in HVAC units which really helps stop the sound bounce off those big flat surfaces. Or do both. The first one is cheap and you guys will knock them out in minutes
Such AWESEOME work! However, am I the only one to notice the irony that you hand-carved giant doors for you GIANT CNC??? Love you guys... 🤛
And there it is, Only took 200 comments to see i was going for Ironic. I must be really bad at selling the idea of Irony hahahah
Door looks great. Nice to see wood work being done in the wood shop again
Great looking door! Single tear for staining oak but For the sound problem maybe try to take out all the Rockwell insulation and spray foam all the cavities instead. Might be a littttle expensive but it would work lol
Ehhhh i dunno, Rockwool is the industry standard for sound dampening. We're thinking we need a back wall!
Fantastic work. So much more than the sum of its parts, like most inspired designs! Really makes a visual statement for your new shop.
You should get those foot pulls that go on the bottom of the doors like they do in the bathrooms at gas stations to open from the outside of the slab lab. They wouldn't take away anything from the door and you can still open the doors easily.
Fyi
You can t fight me, because I am drunk but I will hurt your hands.
Love your shows and thank you for teaching me soooo much.
If you guys are going to be forging axe handles (which you should because that would look all kinds of kickass), talk to Will Stelter. Awesome bladesmith in Montana who does some stunning forging work. He'd be an awesome resource to help you out.
We're familiar with Will, he used to work with Alex steele!
This is one of the coolest things that I have seen you do so far. I love the work you had me at milling, drilling, and killing. Keep producing the good work
Absolutely incredible...doors came out amazing!! Love the name as well.. Cant get enough from you guys
That was freaking awesome. Carved a tree into a double door. Wtf 🤯 killer job
This is simply amazing! Well, nothing simple about it, but it's better than I could put words to.
The most awesome doors in a shop ever anywhere! The sign is icing on the cake.
That was an awesome fucking ad hook. I didn’t skip the ad for once because of how well you crafted it. Keep crushing it big shoots, love the new shop
Just found your channel a couple days ago and have not seen your door video, so I loom forward to gaining your friendship
I have a stack of live edge red oak in the back yard. Thank you for the inspiration.
"I have a parking lot and we can fight in it" Another T-shirt idea that I would buy!!
Could the lack of noise cancelling be do to the shared walls with the existing structures? Also, Im sure the concrete floor doesn’t dampen sound waves so try adding some of that rubber padding made to stand on.
Aw yes! The handles will be sweet!
Those doors are frickin awesome!! Cannot wait to see the handles that will get mounted on them
Awesome Job - Door is KICKASS. Nice carving Mr. Malecki
Great job guys! The door looks amazing!
Very cool! Curious if you would use a total boat product on an exterior door that takes a boat load (sorry, bad pun) of weather. I live in Houston and my front doors take a major hit from rain and sun pretty much year-round. Asking because i am about to take them down to re-sand and stain. Normally I use a outdoor clear marine varnish- but it is worthless in less than two years.
I would check further into the Halcyon products description, to my knowledge its an outdoor finish
Definitely need some sort of weatherstripping around the door gaps (and any gaps in the walls, and the wall-to-floor gaps, for that matter). Also lining the interior walls with acoustic foam panels should help a lot.
Take my suggestions with a massive grain of salt. I'm no expert, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I watch a lot of UA-cam videos so that basically makes me an expert on the internet, right? Lmao.
Best western, holiday inn, same same. you're an expert in my books!
honestly might be your best project. and I like the surprise for the boys.
This may have been one of your most creative ways to incorporate your sponsor. Bravo!👏and I'm glad Jordan's safe now. Also, cool doors. 👍👍
That tree is speaking to me!!!! I have had a tree on my crafting bucket list forever! I need to get my a$$ in gear
SICKNESS, You guys knocked it out of the park with this build.
Awesome frickin job 🤘🤘
I knew you was a great wood worker but now knowing you can carve like that shows me your even better then I thought
Great work boys! Very stylish
Omg!! I love the doors!! Love the sign!!
You three work so well together...lol
Oh wow! Dang! Awesome freaking doors. Honestly one of the best double doors I've seen!
Man I can't wait for when yall make the big wooden framing beams agian hope you guys go big on those like always
Got a link for those ball bearing latches on the tops? just built a similar pair of double doors for my shop and had not yet figured out the latch option. those are perfect!
I was thinking the same thing as well. Looks like just Google "ball bearing door latch". I'm going to pick up a pair Lowe's
I love it. It's a great project , great job. The right door could use a little more pop of the tree. I figure you guys would do a lighter stain around the tree and then the color you have now for the tree. Hey I love it. Great job
I agree with the advice at 0:52 so strongly.
I bought a dremal and some wood carving bits and made a couple small signs that turned out pretty okay for my first time.
Can you do a quick pan to the handles. Curious how the etching is holding up. I actually do electro etching on to Aircraft parts but never get to see how long they last.
"Measure 8 times, cut twice and call someone because you're hungry" is possibly the best quite I've ever heard
Awesome job! Maybe give the rest of the outside of the lab some color? 🤷♂️
Yea what color should we paint it ?
Handle on both doors when closed is a POSTED SIGN
Everyone has great soundproofing advice. For a simple approach you could hang a curtain rod on the inside of the doorframe and hang a heavy curtain across the opening. Just an idea
I love how the doors turned out!! Nice work!
genuinely a good job, love it
That tree came out awesome, John!
oh that cliff hanger! I cant wait for that video
These doors are incredible, initially I wanted to say a coat of white paint on the plywood walls would make these pop, but they dont need anymore help standing out!
Dude - that turned out sooo cool! Well done boys!
I wonder if it would be possible/worth dropping the doors on the CNC and taking of just a smidge of material from the tree specifically to turn it back to the original wood color and give the door even more contrast. Obviously, looks amazing as is - just a quick, off the cuff idea.
Not a bad idea, i like the subtly of the carving tho , so prob leave it fully stained
Wow! Those doors are AWESOME!
His “Measure 8 times, cut twice” rant needs its own shirt.
hahahah maybe !
Great job guys!!! Love the doors.
Absolutely love these doors!!!
The craved tree is epic! Now you need to contrast the wall!
Those doors are cool as hell! Nice work! Very impressive!
idea for future video, sort of like your 3 levels challenges. Except you decide on a project but with limitations. Beginner- jordan gets to pick 1 tool/machine for both you and sam not to be able to use during the challenge. Then sam gets to pick one for just you not to use. So basically it will come down to jordan can use anything and everything to build , sam can do the same minus whatever tool jordan decided, and john can use whatever tools/machines minus the 2 tools that each of them picked. Would really challenge the advanced and pro to accomplish the same techniques with different tools. So if Jordan knows that john loves the table saw, he can choose that and now John has to use straight edge and circular saw to accomplish it. And sorry john, you dont get to put any limitations.
Sweet. the walls around the door are next!
Yeah I'm definitely going to need this door for my bathroom
Those are the sickest double doors on UA-cam. Nicely done, guys!
John been taking adread notes from linus tech tips 🤣
Love you guys! Stay humble and keep going!
Great project. The doors and the tree are outstanding. You really need to put some meat on Sam’s bones, when He stands next to John it makes it look like Fatherhood is giving John a real DADBOD… 😃 thanks for sharing and can’t wait to see you cut that giant log!
Good job guys.those doors are awesome.
I hope somewhere on the long list of jobs is to finish the ply in some way to accentuate those gorgeous doors as it just looks pants alongside.
Everyone seems to be doing a door video right now 🤣
The doors look fantastic! I like the sign too.
You could have used real bark from a slab of wood and added it to the tree to give it realism .😄
I didn't see this until now (waddya know, RL took over). Love the build and damn, I hope Jordan is okay. Love how the shop is coming together.
Now that is a Door……..turned out awesome…..thanks for sharing 😎
Thank you for watching Patrick!
Cool. Good work. Thanks for sharing
So beautiful... Great job guys! ❤️
Absolutely brilliant. Simple but soo effective 👍👍
That looks great! Really like this one!
The doors look Sick!
Turned out way nicer than the video pic led me to believe.
Heard "IM HUNGRY" 4X
Well, if you wanted to know, im still hungry
That frame doors sits on should have also be stained and sprayed IMO. Nice work anyway. 👏
Incredible!! It looks amazing! 🔥🔥🔥
For having to “Get Squirrely”, they came out frickin’ groovy!
"If you don't like it, I got a parking lot, we can fight in it!" LOL
Wow that looks amazing
