      The door turned out fantastic! I certainly learned from this...thanks! What basic power carving tools should I start with please? I'm currently building my first workshop and storage...primarily free because I've been scouring marketplace! I really appreciate it when you guys share your mistakes because it makes it less intimidating

    Looks awesome guys!
    Regarding sound - sealing all the air gaps will reduce sound, so adding door gasket / weather stripping to all the seams will greatly help with Ms Piggy’s grunting. Keep up the fun work!

      I also came to the comments to recommend weather stripping. Sound proofing is a game of small changes that add up to big changes - those little details really make a difference.
      Doors look awesome!

      Exactly what I was going to say
      Sound waves are pressure waves they need to be blocked and absorbed to sound proof properly

  • @coryjones6883
    @coryjones6883 2 роки тому +3

    I built a sound proof room for my drumset/ music recording and I used MLV (mass loaded vinyl) between two layers of drywall on top of heavy sound dampening insulation to sound proof. For example: insulation, drywall, MLV, drywall. It works pretty well, some sound gets out but not much. Putting things on the wall like foam diffusers or even build some wooden diffusers could potentially help absorb some sound waves as well. Its also important to seal all air gaps so sound waves dont get through. I also recommend putting a sound proof door behind that beautiful door you just made!
    Love your videos and products. Keep up the amazing work.

    I'VE WAITED SO LONGGG FOR SOMEONE TO DO EXACTLY THIS!!!!!!!!!!! do you have more information on how you went about everything? like lumber thickness for the doors, the panels in the doors as well, maybe a rough time frame for completion? i love this soooo much, you MUST do more doors! next challenge should be 3 levels of carved doors! single doors are fine vs double to be a bit easier on yas. i need more inspiration for the double doors on a cabinet im working on as well as a single bathroom one and a basement one

    If you want to kill the sound to the outside, the best thing to do is build a room inside of a room. That's what most studios will do with their control rooms, live rooms, and vocal booths. Not only that, studios will double up their doors. It sounds weird but it works very well. If yinz have any questions, I live in the Pittsburgh area and would be more than happy to answer any questions/ give you advice on what you can do.

    I feel like a Squirrel made of something should sit upon one of the branches. I will say, after watching most all of your content I am most impressed with this. At the start of the video I thought for sure the CNC would be used for the carving. Nope, you did it by hand. This is going to sound bad, but I expect the quality of work you put out with the skill level someone in your profession should have and the tools you have at your disposal. The way you threw a pencil and a grinder at this door, free hand mind you, takes you to a whole other level in my book especially when you consider the depth you ended up with this relatively thin piece. So cool.

    John, Switch to the Precision PLS-024 Magnetic catches instead of ball catches. They work better, and never don't loosen up over time. The require a forstner bit and a Phillips bit to install.

    beautiful doors and the carving is amazing, perfect just the way it is. If you want easy home made sound dampening make frames and fill them with mineral wool insulation then cover in fabric, alternaively you can buy self adhesive foam sound dampening that they use in HVAC units which really helps stop the sound bounce off those big flat surfaces. Or do both. The first one is cheap and you guys will knock them out in minutes

    You should get those foot pulls that go on the bottom of the doors like they do in the bathrooms at gas stations to open from the outside of the slab lab. They wouldn't take away anything from the door and you can still open the doors easily.

    Very cool! Curious if you would use a total boat product on an exterior door that takes a boat load (sorry, bad pun) of weather. I live in Houston and my front doors take a major hit from rain and sun pretty much year-round. Asking because i am about to take them down to re-sand and stain. Normally I use a outdoor clear marine varnish- but it is worthless in less than two years.

    • @John_Malecki
      @John_Malecki  2 роки тому +1

      I would check further into the Halcyon products description, to my knowledge its an outdoor finish

  • @kasper_429
    @kasper_429 2 роки тому +1

    Definitely need some sort of weatherstripping around the door gaps (and any gaps in the walls, and the wall-to-floor gaps, for that matter). Also lining the interior walls with acoustic foam panels should help a lot.

    idea for future video, sort of like your 3 levels challenges. Except you decide on a project but with limitations. Beginner- jordan gets to pick 1 tool/machine for both you and sam not to be able to use during the challenge. Then sam gets to pick one for just you not to use. So basically it will come down to jordan can use anything and everything to build , sam can do the same minus whatever tool jordan decided, and john can use whatever tools/machines minus the 2 tools that each of them picked. Would really challenge the advanced and pro to accomplish the same techniques with different tools. So if Jordan knows that john loves the table saw, he can choose that and now John has to use straight edge and circular saw to accomplish it. And sorry john, you dont get to put any limitations.
