This is THE inlay guy. Such beautiful work. I have been following and enjoying his work for quite awhile now. Great video Andy. Thanks for taking us "inside the ropes".
I've watched Broinwood videos for a while now. Mix Andy Bird and Mr. Broinwood in there and this is the most inspiring video I have seen...Ever! Very nice to see Mr. Broinwood himself besides just his hands. Even brought a tear to my eye at his well deserved success.
I love Nick's work! I was having a hard time wrapping my head around the parameters for v-carve inlay and I bought his course. I immediately had 100% success after following his process for adjusting the parameters for the router bits being used. I fully recommend his course.
I'm so glad that Nick is not burned out. I absolutely love his builds as he inspired me to get into woodworking. What a great opportunity for y'all to get together!
Broinwood was the first person I saw who showed me that cnc can be a tool to create art, not just a machine. Very inspiring and I'm now getting into it myself.
Very cool video Andy! I know I joked about my jealously of you being able to do this project, but in reality I truly appreciate the time that you and Nic took to do this! His inlays are second to none. Your board turned out great! Thank you!
I'm a interior house painter by trade, and I love it when a client tells me just paint it whatever color I think will look good, and they give me a $300 tip when it's finished.
This man has essentially mastered a craft that would take someone a lifetime to learn by hand. And he's done it in 5 years and made it profitable. That's incredible
End grain is more valuable and is true butcher block. So they’re much thicker, and higher quality boards to begin with. The inlays bring things to another level. I would think with devising a caul system, one could apply plenty of pressure for the inlays, with some bar clamps but the press is definitely easier, more efficient and, well..better👍.! Great business man and I really like his style. Willing to share (techniques and also struggles, learning curve etc), sincere and not at all arrogant, in spite of his success. Much to learn and appreciate about this guy! Can’t wait to check out his site. Andy, still don’t have a cnc machine so hadn’t visited ur site in a while but I’m reminded of how I liked you and your generosity in sharing and teaching. Thx again!
Hi Andy, I'm contacting you from Italy. He excuses the translation. I just signed up to your channel just for interviewing one of my heroes Nick Broinwood. My other myth is MTM wood who hasn't published videos for some time. I'm spending a fortune on machinery just to emulate my legend Nick in building custom CNC cutting boards. I have been following him for a long time and he is the Leonardo da Vinci of inlays. To achieve those results it takes passion, patience, perfection and devotion to work. One day not too far away I too will realize my dream, I have been setting up my laboratory for a few years. Greetings from Italy to you and my legend Nick. Ciao
Just watched en episode with your guest "Broinwood" and I was blown by his ability to commit to such very detailed work of art. Thanks for sharing. Hope to order my CNC soon.
Great interview Andy and great work! My two young sons want to get into woodworking and asked me to help start the business for the three of us. We follow you and Nik, you both inspire us! BTW, the client Nik mentioned who refused the $500 discount on the custom board because the design he created exceeded expectation, that’s me!
Nick is the reason i have a CNC! His work is unbelievable. Great video, Andy. I've messed with resin long enough. I've got to try out this inlay process now.
Thanks Andy and Nik for sharing the passion you have for making things. Inlays may not be my thing, but you have shown how there is a market for high end and unique craftsmanship. This inspires me to focus harder on my own projects. I also appreciate how you blend your product influencing in a tasteful way with informative and captivating content.
This process has taken wood art to another level. I love this type of inlay. Would never be able to afford one. Thank you for all the hard work you put in to show us this process and beautiful master pieces!
I really enjoyed how you both layed out the CNC process from your respective experience! Nick, I really like your shop and the Cutting Boards that you produce on your CNC's are exceptionally perfect and beautiful! Well done to you Both!
I've been following Nick and the beautiful works he creates for a long time. I also have his video course for processing parameters. I asked for recommendations and Nick was very helpful. I also found a good artist for drawings. Finding good clients is very complicated, but I'm gearing up for this. You are also very good and your advice is very useful. Thanks for making this video
Broinwood was the biggest inspiration to me to get started in woodworking. I can only hope to reach his level with inlaid cutting boards. Thanks for the inside look!
i have no clue about woodworking or cnc but omg this video was really interesting and i watched it so "fast" it was like the video was only about 5mins. And Nik is really a nice dude and awesome guy, learning all that from scratch really inspired me and hes also kinda humble about it which is really nice. Great video :)
Well done. I enjoyed seeing you and Nick in the process. I have followed Nick's work for several years. I make many end grain boards and am now merging them with the inlays. Nicks course is well worth the small cost involved and has allowed me to be a better CNC worker. At 75, I am not sure if I will outlive a bigger stronger machine, but who knows :-) 🙂
Great to see someone who is successful from scratch with passion and drive. One thing I appreciated is the tips shared with everyone to make a great piece that the client is thrilled with. Thank you for showing us your shop, projects, and tips. Congratulations 🎊 on your successful business! 👏
We appreciate so much this video!! I've been watching both channels for years now, huge respect to both Andy and BroinWood! Regards from Croatia! I'm sure you are inspiration to some of us trying to experiment with cnc wood carving.
A great combo 'The Nik and Andy Show'. I have been watching Nik's content for a while...He is amazing. Can't afford one of his detailed inlays so with your and Nik's inspirational content I will learn how to make them. Keep it coming....
have you machined any burl pieces? If you could do it, it would look incredible , with the eccentric grain characteristics of burl. I have much admiration of your art. As a person that also has worked with wood in different applications for 40+ years, anything done in this medium, even using the CNC, is still a one-off, unique......the grain is the trees fingerprint in a way, all different, and beautiful. great to watch someone create functional art.❤
Great video. Been following both of you guys for sometime now. Just starting my own business working with custom inlay, and it is a challenge working with face grain for sure. Sharp bits, particular design for each radius and a prayer to the grain gods.
Amazing interview and craftsmanship. This is next level cutting boards. Im so tired of seeing the same old types of boaring boards. Ive been wanting a cnc for a long time now and haven't yet pulled the trigger. Definitely need some guidance on what good quality one to get but also wont kill the bank at the same time. 😮
Great video and very inspiring. I didnt know a cutting board could be sold to such high price and there are people willing to buy those. Good lesson how to price your stuff based on your skills. I loved this video. Thanks Andy.
Andy! Thee BEST video I have seen! I have been following Broinwood for quite some time and always marveled at what he had down. So many questions were answered with your video. Great job!
I love your channel and artwork so much that’s why I bought a cnc router 3 years ago. However, I still haven’t made the leap in doing an inlaid endgrain chop block yet, but definitely soon
Love the video and your products. I really appreciate your transparency on your business and methods. I have a few questions I hope you can answer. Have you ever tried a vacuum bag instead of a press for your inlay? How about managing customer expectations, you mentioned having a customer coming to you and offering more money as you exceeded his expectations. Do you ever have customers come back with unreasonable complaints, how do you manage expectations upfront to limit that?
Awesome video! I love seeing their work & greatly appreciate the behind the scenes interview. Also as a retired Marine, I love the clips of the Marine Corps cutting board!!! 💯👊🏽
This is great. Some of the ideas I have rattling around I my head coincide with what Nik is doing. Hearing and seeing some of those unknown details is helpful!
@@AndyBirdBuildsWell...F me. i gotta get more rest. sorry Andy. I DID buy enough lumber to try an endgrain cutting board today based on this video though. I'll keep the subsequent failure to myself.

There’s a third way, you may of over looked it, or not considered it. I’m in the UK , I use my grill (or broiler if you’re American) with a cast iron BBQ flat, comes out amazing!

Excellent interview and painstakingly beautiful pieces of art. I do want to know if 2 inch thick is a necessity for wood stability or just a creator's choice. Would you please comment on this?

good job,like
The most impressive thing about this interview is that he knows his stuff and the fact that he taught himself.
I love that he has the cnc router working in the background, making him money even while in the middle of an interview
Having his tools do the work, smart.
Love seems like a strong word. Hippy.
Wasn't that the project they were working on together? The, never trust a skinny chef, board.
Yes!
