9:06 I think Choujin X will really only blow up if we get an anime adaptation. At the moment the community is pretty small, only ever heard talk about it on their reddit and some manga recommendation vids. I'd imagine it's because of the schedule (we don't always know when the next chapter is gonna release) and due to the relatively small chapter count (still under 100). Tokyo Ghoul will always have place in my heart, might be nostalgia or something else, all I know is that the first time I read the manga it felt different from other manga which I just binge and feel empty after. Idk what it is but it made me feel differently from other manga

Have you ever read fool night? It's a manga that was recommended by Sui Ishida, makes sense once you actually read.
By far the most unknown of the new gen. And I didn't I didn't know that I was recommended by him. I just saw the manga covers and knew that it was going to be pretty fire.

As someone who has read one of his first semi-gag web-comic "Penisman" (or at least as much as I could), I would say there are definitely some old ideas from there that he has reused in Tokyo Ghoul. But he seems like he wanted to express those ideas with more clarity and freedom, and is using Choujin X to perfect that. Ishida has always wanted to craft stories and I'm glad he has the time to do the things he wants and at his own pace.

Not liking Tokyo Ghoul is insane but the creator of Tokyo Ghoul has to be a little bit insane to create something like Tokyo Ghoul. Its in no disrespect, I love Tokyo Ghoul and I know Ishida has had a lot of mental health issues so that mixed with stress has most likely distorted his views and perspectives.

I feel like this is one of those expectations vs reality moments where the author's determination doesn't match what he intended to make. I've created pieces of art where i technically did everything right, but i ended up deeming it almost a complete failure because it didn't click with my expectations in the end. Which leads me to say that achieving that balance between what you expect to come out versus letting the art take you away is what's key to making YOUR personal masterpiece.
As an artist, the above made sense, though as a non-artist, not so much lol. Words.
Edit: tokyo ghoul is my favorite manga. Im really surprised to hear this from ishida since i believe he unintentionally made a top-tier masterpiece of a manga, even if he doesn't like his own work.

I mean to be fair, a lot of artists end up feeling that way. Being the creator of something gives you access to view your own flaws and parts that need improvement, and whike this is beautiful in its own right, its very common for artists to despise their best peices of work because they couldn't translate what was in their head on the page well enough. But to the outside viewers of the art, its phenomenal, because we dont have that bias. We have the privileged suspension of disbelief that the art conveys what it was meant too, even though the author sees things otherwise. I for one hold tokyo ghoul in very high regard (and yes thats including :re; its actually one of if not my favorite redemption arcs of all time right alongside musashi from vagabond) and adore ishida's most recent work Choujin X as well.
TLDR: Idc what the author thinks because nobody is perfect and i love tokoy ghoul dearly

  • @poelogan

I feel bad that he couldn’t get the Kubo treatment with the anime. Meaning- the anime should’ve went on indefinite hiatus until the manga was done so Ishida could take a look over the story then fix the holes via the anime- like how Kubo did with bleach.
It’s a shame that the anime doesn’t match up to the quality of the manga and an even bigger shame that Ishida feels like it’s not a great work ://

    • @jase276
      @jase276 11 місяців тому

Well, the anime didn't need an indefinite hiatus. If they had not RUSHED it, the pacing would've been fine. And the fact that they decided to go the uncanon route of some scribbles Ishida did on a piece of paper didn't help.

I lowkey DONT like Tokyo Ghoul much despite being subscribed. I always wanted the series to reach new heights and the potential it had was so sky high in my eyes, but compared to series Neon Genesis Evangelion and Goodnight Punpun (maybe a little unfair of a comparison here on the latter one) I felt it didn’t focus enough on the psychology and relationships of the characters like those stories were able to do so well, which left me feeling like TG has a lot of potential because of the premise and the deeper character based writing it COULDVE had a lot more of. So I’m very excited and happy to see that Ishida has his own artistic vision being realized now.

It makes me sad that the tokyo ghoul anime didnt really do service to the manga, and ichida's feelings of imperfection toward tokyo ghoul means a remake is likely not in our future. that being said im happy that he found his joy in creating again. one day ill probably read chojin x and be amazed at ichida once again

Jump needs to chill out with the deadlines, the workload obviously isn't healthy for the authors or their assistants. Glad to hear he's found his own groove instead of getting caught in the rabbit hole of serialisation. Will definitely read Choujin X, would read anything that man puts out.

Finished TG 3 days ago and currently reading :re. This was my first experience of a tragedy ending and I didn't know re was a continuation. I felt empty after reading the ending. I started reading TG from the impression that its one of those power fantasy manga's where the mc gets all powerfull and whoops everbody's ass onwards. And Oh boy was I wrong. Ma man Kaneki took a big fat L in that last arc. While I had the anxiety of the possibility that Kaneki might end up dying ever since I read the Kano's lab arc where Kaneki went bat shit crazy and since Kaneki felt like he had given too much to his ghoul side ever since the 11 ward aogiri attack arc. But man, this dude left his friends, couldn't save Yoshimura and ended up pretty much being responsible for Amon's whole situation and then went ahead and died too. I thought he was gonna get all powerfull and beat Arima at the last arc but shit turned into one sided massacre. Didn't know Arima was on a different lvl than any other character. Bro casually walked up to the Owl and low diffed his ass.

I don't think Ishida really hates TG itself or thinks it's "mid" I think he feels like he couldn't express himself the way he wanted with it or/and it didn't turn out exactly the way he wanted and planned combined also with all the extreme stress and preassure he had everywhere, it was more like a bad experience he had while doing it, and his feelings are completely valid but that doesn't actually immediately means that TG is bad and It's so sad that he didn't got to genuinely enjoy doing it, he also had improved a lot from TG to TGre and personally TGre has my favorite art in a manga I've ever seen bcs it really is so ethereal and so unique

Bro not criticising your style just wondering what’s up with all the random black memes in the background, they are distracting and have little to no relevance to what’s being said on screen. Don’t get me wrong, I love a black meme, but when discussing the subject of a famous artist struggles within his artistic journey, having black meme in the back drop will create confusion and cognitive dissonance rather than interest and engagement.
