@@flaviusbelisarius9575 One Eyed King Kaneki comes after the fight with Arima, and during that fight the same type of stress he suffered during the torture with Jason occurred again, causing him incredibly high levels of stress equalling the possibility of going insane during that fight and the reason as to why his Kakuja appeared again, during that fight all of that causes his hair to return to being White. The reasoning as to why he became the Black Reaper is suppression of Kaneki's RC Cells caused melanin production which would slowly start to turn his hair back to it's black state over time (I'm more than sure I've heard that in conversation, and read it somewhere else as well), and then by the time it was fully black Kaneki was the Black Reaper, he was mentally unstable, but (from what I could remember) hadn't been pushed to the brink of insanity, especially like cases where he was tortured for more than a Week Straight by Jason, or had a gruesome fight with Arima where I'm sure he had limbs cut of a few times... I'll have an actual conversation with you, as long as you aren't an Elitist dickhead. Naruto (-Fillers, although some are good) is good anyway lmao. And there's nothing wrong with Shounen overall either, One Piece is my overall favourite Anime, and one of my favourite manga if not my favourite, along with Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan). I don't read much manga, but it doesn't mean I don't at all, and DEFINITELY doesn't mean I can't have an opinion.
@Zurgaa Sorry about labeling you as an anime only. Yes Kaneki told Touka that RC levels affect his melanin in his hair. However, Kaneki has mental instability ever since he as a kid, long before he became half ghoul. Kaneki has been suppressing his traumatic memories and fabricating new ones. Kaneki fabricated the memory of his mother being a "nice woman" to cope with her abuse of him. It wasn't Arima stabbing Kaneki that caused his memory loss. Instead Arima lying to Kaneki about killing the Anteiku staff that caused him to have a mental breakdown and suppress his memories to create the Haise persona. Unfortunately, the shitty anime adaptation did not include flashbacks to Kaneki's time spent in Cochlea. Kankei has never been a mentally stable person. I would say Arima's second fight with Kaneki made his mental health better. It was in that fight that Arima taught Kaneki to stop his suicidal tendencies and live on to protect his loved ones. Of course, Kaneki did relapse into mental instability when became Dragon.
Ive thought of the representation of Kaneki's hair as when it was black (stage 1 Kaneki) He was in the human world. Then when he became white haired Kaneki, he became more into the ghoul world. Haise was a mix where he was in both ghoul and human as he had no memories. Black Reaper idk, i thought it was more for violent as his hair stained black when he got blood on his head during the fight with Karen (i forgot her name, right before he became kaneki again) then white haired again as said in the video a full rebirth and in the ghoul world.
It's been months since I've finished the manga. No, I can't move on, it's just too good of a masterpiece. I find it relatable. Thanks for the awesome video.
From what I remember, Kaneki stated in one of his conversations with Touka that the reason why his hair color changes from time to time is because of his RC cells decreasing and/or increasing. I vaguely remember the whole dialogue, please correct me if I’m wrong. And that makes his sudden shift in hair color explainable and a good portrayal of mental progression as you said.
That is true, thank god someone actually read the manga, and wasn’t fishing for content like this stupid fuck. Ishida stated that it was due to RC cells and regeneration. Fuck.
John AppleSeed You should calm down and stop cursing like a 12 year old kid. The whole Tokyo Ghoul manga is full of symbolism. The Rc cells being the reason why his hair changes is just the basic explanation, the reason why his Rc cells change the color of the hair is because of strong emotions that makes Rc cells either more or less active and as a result they either stop or increase the melanin production, which is the substance responsible for hair pigmentation. Every time his hair changes color is when he experiences strong emotions. The white haired Kaneki appeared as a result of him experiencing a lot of pain and having a mental breakdown. Haise appeared because he forgot all his memories and felt empty inside not knowing who he is. Black reaper Kaneki appeared because Haise got back his memories, as a result he became depressed since he didn't know what side to choose. One eyed king kaneki appeared because of him finding a new purpose in his life and accepting his mistakes.
I really want to express how important this video is as there's a whole other philosophical side to Tokyo Ghoul. I'm surprised how no one has made videos similar to this, that's why you deserve the love. Thank you for making this video, it really has helped me understand the story more thoroughly and not just Kaneki's hair. ❤
Very, very good video. I'm suprised so many people don't comprehend this portion of Kaneki's character. I mean, the anime onlies never have it explained, but I even see manga readers not understanding the hair's literal meaning and symbolic meaning. I do disagree with you on one portion... I don't think it's correct to call Black Reaper Kaneki/Haise "emotionless." How I've always interpreted it is Black Reaper is one of the most emotional versions of Kaneki. He has all these memories rushing back out of order in short bursts, along with all its emotional weight. He portrays himself as emotionless, in mimicry of Arima, but inside his head we see he is torn. He is sad. He misses his friends (ghouls and Hide). He is angry at himself for holding off on helping Hinami and willing to sacrifice himself against Arima. That's always been my interpretation. Don't know if it's correct. That's the beautiful part of TG and stories like it. One aspect can have infinite intepretations
In some ways my interpretation is the same thing as yours, I just grounded it in the scale of the story and a *persona* we had yet to witness which was a body fueled by memories that he can't connect to and his *Emotionless* state I mention grounds itself towards him not being able to pull emotion from his memories because he cant fully comprehend it. It makes the traversal into the Kaneki Vs Arima fight a lot more meaningful as to push Kaneki back into those memories, back into those emotions and finally connecting to them, Arima had to take Kaneki past his half kakuja and force him to be reborn, breaking that *Black Reaper and Haise concept* and bringing Hide back into Kaneki's mind. That's just me.
nanoen you spelled surprised wrongly and litteral, you can’t repeat meaning twice, spelled online wrongly, you should have said online websites not only online.
Here To Save You Alot Of Time: The reason kaneki has white hair is because jason tortured him so much he couldnt help but finally accept he is a ghoul and thus his hair turns white
Fun fact- Haise doesn't have black on white hair he has gray hair with black forming at the roots. He's even referred to as "the guy with gray hair" a few times in the manga.
Nom Nom That depends on the arc , in the beginning his hair was more curly, and was white and black ,the gray part being a in between color. Later on as his hair gets straight, and as the black hair gets longer he cuts the white hair leaving only black and gray. Him being referred by that name probably happened when he had black and gray hair or i guess they referred to him by that name because by combining black and white you get gray, i dunno, i don't remember the instances when he was referred to as that. But it's just a hair color who cares anyway.😃
to be completely honest i always thought that white hair represent the mental torture and physical damage he has went through. his hair turning back to black made me think he is happy again. then it goes to black and white? i just thought Kaneki is now classified as a zebra
Simple answer (Imo): kaneki's hair changes to show that he has undergone a major change in personality, and he's now a completely different person than he was before. To drive the point that he really is a completely "different" person from before, he needs to look different, thus his hair and outfit changes with each of his incarnations :P
To be fair, it is due to the RC cell levels in his blood. When Kaneki (Beginning of TG + beginning or RE) has black to mostly black hair, it is because the RC cells in his blood are close to nothing (exception for Haise, where his RC cells are suppressed to a certain level, giving him the black/white hair) and then when the fight for Arima comes, hair are pure white and Kaneki going Ghoul berserk mode. It could easily be seen has emotional stages or periods and it transforms him (fictional universe, it is), but still , logically speaking this makes more sense. P.S. For those who might say :Well he had dark hair against the Owl/Tsukiyama on top of the Tsukiyama building ! No he didn't. Has mentioned in the manga, his head got hit so hard / so many times that it went blood red for a while (hence the nickname Blood-haired Kaneki, personal favorite). You still are an amazing reviewer, one of the few I can actually watch. You gained a subscriber sir, cheers!
@@Hhhh22222-w That would simply be because the RC cells are affecting his Human body in a way that it doesn't for other ghouls. We have a very Unique individual here, with RC cells from probably the most powerful Ghoul ever. so yeah, it's probably why.
this really cleard up black reaper kaneki for me. i was always confused bc it's looks like negative development while going from black to white hair was *also* negative development, so how can the reverse be the same thing. but being symbolism for large mental shifts makes so much sense. thank you for this video
I mean... could it be that when Kaneki became Haise, the new hair that he is growing is black? And as time passes, all his hair is black. Yeah, his hair transformed from black to white because of the torture he went through, now since his mind was "reseted" maybe just all his new hair is black. And during time, cutting the white part he remains with more black hair. I actually agree with all the arguments and that's what I was thinking until now because his hair does mean the change he goes through. Buuuuuut. What if?
Thank you, although I’m new to Tokyo Ghoul I was thankfully following the changes, this has just helped confirm what I was thinking. I’m really impressed with what you’ve done here, you’ve got yourself a new sub

There are countless physical transformations in anime that are sorta dope. But Keneki’s Mental Transformation in the anime is one of the best moments in anime *HANDS DOWN*
This is the reason I *hate* how the anime played out the scene where his white hair appears. It's too abrupt for the slow changes Kaneki's personality underwent; in the manga, everything happens slower. His original black to white hair transition is gradual, because he didn't just snap all at once. It's the same way with his original hair colour as Haise. It slowly shifts back to pure black, and that's the way it is right before his fight with Arima in Cochlea. He had become 'Kaneki' instead of 'Haise'. Every hair transition is the same way - representing the changes to Kaneki as a person. The massive symbolism was totally and pointlessly eliminated from the anime, even though it wouldn't have been hard to put in. Manga all the way.
Who do you like the most? Innocent Kaneki (Black hair) Tortured Kaneki (White hair) Haise Sasaki (Black and White) Kid Kaneki (White hair) Black Reaper (Black hair) One eyed king (White hair)

Well you should go and see 😆its really good xD
You should watch it, it’s gr8 m8
I just started watching it, it is actually really good
Proxytale 101 read the manga first, then the anime would make sense. The anime sucks that’s why you should read the manga first.
D i z o n i ahhh! Okay! Thank your for your advice. I will do that.
Eto, not Karen 😂😂😂
It's been months since I've finished the manga.
No, I can't move on, it's just too good of a masterpiece. I find it relatable.
Thanks for the awesome video.
It's been 2 years :') I'm re reading the manga this quarantine.
@@iri8032 Have fun!
I will definitely re-read it sometime too, but not now. I feel that I need more time before re-reading.
Tes theRBplayer That’s what I was thinking

Kaneki hair is due to RC cells and regeneration stupid fuck
Lmao causes and meanings are not the same!

The reason kaneki has white hair is because jason tortured him so much he couldnt help but finally accept he is a ghoul and thus his hair turns white
2:34
"How that completely *unravels*"
...I see what you did there."
In the original Tokyo ghoul manga, rize says to kaneki “your hair is all grey” that kinda proves your point a bit more
This video is my comfort video when I need to listen to something quiet and calming.

to be completely honest i always thought that white hair represent the mental torture and physical damage he has went through. his hair turning back to black made me think he is happy again. then it goes to black and white? i just thought Kaneki is now classified as a zebra
finally i found a UA-camr who has a really faithful way 2 explain it and guess what i understand it now! thx bro
Simple answer (Imo): kaneki's hair changes to show that he has undergone a major change in personality, and he's now a completely different person than he was before. To drive the point that he really is a completely "different" person from before, he needs to look different, thus his hair and outfit changes with each of his incarnations :P
I just need to say this... YOU NEED MORE SUBSCRIBERS!!! (Love your videos btw)
That can't be, as not all ghouls have white hair or have had.
@@Hhhh22222-w That would simply be because the RC cells are affecting his Human body in a way that it doesn't for other ghouls. We have a very Unique individual here, with RC cells from probably the most powerful Ghoul ever. so yeah, it's probably why.
His hair is so meaphorical!!!
I like your interpretation! I would like it if Kaneki's hair was black at the end tho. Nice video. :D

Now that you say it ; in the start his hair was probably white due to stress too
*oh my god*
@Chancellor Harris i dont think he dyed his hair to black, i think it turn black because of what happen to shinohara in the end of s2
Shane man this was well explained like you said it was self explanatory but it was really nice to kinda have a better understanding
I thought kaneki became a old man.
this really cleard up black reaper kaneki for me. i was always confused bc it's looks like negative development while going from black to white hair was *also* negative development, so how can the reverse be the same thing. but being symbolism for large mental shifts makes so much sense. thank you for this video
I mean... could it be that when Kaneki became Haise, the new hair that he is growing is black? And as time passes, all his hair is black. Yeah, his hair transformed from black to white because of the torture he went through, now since his mind was "reseted" maybe just all his new hair is black. And during time, cutting the white part he remains with more black hair.
I actually agree with all the arguments and that's what I was thinking until now because his hair does mean the change he goes through. Buuuuuut. What if?
Thabk you for making the videooo

I juat completly understood when u said mental progression right away so thx
