Cool video! Very nice to see and show the differences of consistency and the end result... so many times people ask, how much of this or that... and when i try to explain how i like my consistency... i normally fail... now everybody can use this video as reference!! Thank you for the video!
I normally use the talc powder with olive oil, not sure if it's any good. I'll try to get some isopropyl alcohol though. Isn't the alcohol toxic for the workers though? Especially the fumes?
The alcohol just helps apply it, within a few minutes it's completely evaporated leaving behind just the talc. The fumes while it dries shouldn't be too toxic, I've applied it to containers that had live ants.
Hey I've noticed a dozen or so of my workers have died only an hour after I applied the barrier, is it possible that the baby powder or alcohol I used are toxic? I also kept the lid on to make sure I did it correctly so the fumes might be responsible, any info is greatly appreciated!
The alcohol may produce some fumes which could be bad if contained, definitely wouldn't recommend using a lid next time. To be extra cautious you could fan it for a minute after applying to ensure there's good ventilation
@@pingpongyong9576 I have evacuated them to another outworld, I am using a lid for now, next time I'll first apply the barrier and let it air out a bit and then move them, total death count was around 15 workers, but it's Liometopum so it's no big deal
When it stops an ant, a tiny bit of the powder goes with the ant. Eventually the bottom of the barrier's edge will slowly rise up as more ants test it. If you made the barrier 2" tall, it'd eventually get to 1" tall in certain spots.
I have a natural formicarium and have to water the soil and plants every few days, and talcum powder is coming due to the water, is there anything I can do to minimise the loss of the barrier? Or do i just have to reapply
Does it need the other stuff with in the baby powder because I can't get the baby powder itself because of the whole talcum health issue thing so I'm wondering if I could just buy talc

Awesome video! Very helpful, will definitely try this instead of buying PTFE online :)
Amazing video
Nice video!
Will sanitizer work?
no
I did it and i put too much powder and it fell into the outworld...like just baby owder everywhere...will the baby powder kill the ants?
It should be fine, too much power at once might coat an ant but it's not toxic so they should be able to clean themselves off.
@@MacroAnts Oh ok thx! Lol I was so scared
@@corndog2460 same I went over kill haha
Did it work

Will baby powder without the talc still work?
Nope

@@MacroAnts Alright, thanks for letting me know
@@kristijanveljaca1687 did any more workers die because this has happend to me and im scared if the colony will die

How do I know if I need to re-apply the barrier

Yes talc is what you want, if you can get pure talc that'd be a good option.
@@MacroAnts ok good because i can only get pure talc
I don’t have those materials
Talc powder now needs to be bought online most places since they stopped putting it in baby powder, but still it's cheaper than using fluon
Is is okay if the talcum powder gets all over the out world?
Yeah it shouldn't harm anything, long as it's not a super thick layer. If it gets wet that'd fix it if there was a bunch
@@MacroAnts thanks!
If i don't use the whole mixture can I put in the fridge/freezer and store it for the next time I will need it?
Yeah but the alcohol will all evaporate, leaving just the talc behind. Just add more alcohol before using so the consistency is right
One thing i have to say honestly and humbly. Fhark u fluon for ur expensive price 🕺 💃
Tysm!
Do you need to have 91% rubbing alcohol?
I'm sure any percent will work, it may just take longer to evaporate off leaving just the powder on the walls.
thanks
Anytime
Extra virgin olive oil works great 🤷
How often do you have to re-apply? I've got some talc barriers going multiple years without ever re-applying
