Just to get this clear, if I randomly find a queen walking through my backyard, she doesn't belong to a colony, right? Otherwise, she would be underground....right?
That's right. A queen that's out in the open would be in the process of searching for a suitable nesting location in order to begin her own colony from scratch.

6:01 I would also like to add that I personally found it useful to put sometime underneath the testube so it doesn't roll in the container as this can be stressful to the queen.

This was a life saver to actually witness I caught some queens a couple days ago unexpected and had to set them up in cups untill tubes arrive and was worried about moving them in case they started laying but watching a queen move her brood has put me at ease thank you so much

I think their sting is actually beneficial to you, similar to a bee's. And don't expect to raise fire ants and not get bit.

actually, only a small handful of Camponotus ants do with over a thousand species of Camponotus mostly Camponotus pennsylvanicus (black carpenter ants)
