    Hey guys! I live in Cape Town, South Africa, and I have been running these wonderful model diesel enginessince the 1950's. We always used the 1-1-1 mixture (1 part ether, one part paraffin, one part castor oil) for standard runs in our model racing cars, boats and planes. We bought ether from a pharmacy and paraffin and castor oil from wherever we could get it. For competition runs we used a 2-1-1 mixture. I am still enjoying my run-ups of my ED Fury! I have an ED Competiton Special which needs a drive shaft back washer and a Mills Special which needs a new shaft. My beautiful ED Racer needs a re-threading of its compression screw - otherwise it is a real screamer, with its dual driveshaft bearings! Next Monday I shall be eighty-one years young, and I am looking forward to running my Ohlsson and Rice 10cc petrol engine once again! If anyone can help with repairs, please let me know.

      Hey welcome to my channel! And the man you want to get ahold of is Peter Valicek or Valic000 on UA-cam he is the Diesel Master! When it comes to old engines rebuilds making new parts etc..

    Cool vid man. I'm kinda wanting one of these old motors just to punt on a stand and fire up every now and then just for the hell of it and it's cool to have lol. As for the ether. My grandpa cut several of his fingers off in shop class when he was a teen, he told me they actually used ether for anesthesia when they sewed his fingers back on. This was in the late 40's tho. Crazy how it's so flammable and dangerous but was used in the medical field.

      Ouch, sounds bad, and ether as anesthesia? Don’t think I’m getting into airplanes any time soon, no thanks lol

      @@nitrogas5719 lol Airplanes had nothing to do with him losing his fingers, It was from a saw during shop class in high school. And yeah, either was used as an anesthetic back in the day.

      Ether was used up until the early seventies in USA. It was used on me, which is one of the reasons I have severe PTSD around hospitals!

    My only hangup regarding running diesels is that I cannot get sufficiently pure ether where I live. The absolute best I can get is 25%. If I could get decent ether I'd probably get one of those PAW throttleable engines and dabble with it. Or maybe convert my OS 40FP.

      If you really careful you can distill it there is videos about how to do that you can also use methyl Ethyl ketone if you cannot get ether apparently not supposed to work just the same or look up etherless fuel mixtures I did try zippo fluid and Castor oil it did work not super well but it did start and run

  • @themadscientest
    @themadscientest Рік тому +2

    A third of everything, use castor (probably getting Klotz myself), and I found a place that sells pure diethyl ether! Also will likely use pump 1k kerosene over the water clear just so it has that added sulfur content. Have you tried the VP cetane booster made for "off road use only" because it seems stronger than the road use ones.

    • @thebug4046
      @thebug4046  Рік тому

      If the VP Additive you speak of we don't have that here The equal parts mixture is more or less just for engine break in it doesn't perform all that well and it's pretty heavy it's also what's referred to as British mix the best thing to do is follow the recipe for your engine to get the best performance this was pretty much just for the concept of people that kept asking me how to do it just to get something that their engine would run on

    I myself always mix 20-30-50
    because offical diesel fuels also have 20% oil
    and racing diesel fuels have like 10% oil
    30% ether because I like easy starting
    and 50% petrolium because it makes a round 100

      @thebug4046  3 роки тому

      @@robot797 Well with the Ignition improver because the ether content I can get here is the best and does deftly help you can also use lower compression I got that idea from pieter which is like the diesel king who's been doing it for the last 40 years or so But everyone has their own mixture this is just when I use when I'm playing around on the test Stand never had any issue I do have a whole chart for fuel mixtures I I haven't used in a while since I've misplaced my cheat sheet But more less this is for people that keep asking me the same question and all my videos how to make the fuel just to be able to run and that's pretty much my whole point there
