When I was a lad, the mix we used was equal parts, Kero, ether and SAE 30 engine oil. Simple.

I have some small diesels I want to get running and haven't been able to source any fuel. This helps a lot!

That’s a great mix you’ve got there. 40% is a lot of ether but then again your engine fired up straight away so it makes for easy starting.
Thank you for sharing! I’m going to change my ether content in my next mix. 👍🏻

Don't forget that the starting fluid (it looks like Deere) is 90% ether and 10% burny stuff.

Hello, thank you for your video, a question can you use diesel that is supplied at service stations?

Can we use light mineral oil in place of castor oil. With glow-plug fuel based on methanol I think we need castor oil as mineral oil will not mix but I would expect mineral oil to mix with keresene.

Listening to his ratios at 1:15 it comes out at 102% so it should be good.

I would have done all that mixing outside or just inside an open garage door. Ether is incredibly volatile and has a very low flash point. Very dangerous in a non-ventilated area, especially when taking it from an aerosol can !! Apart from the flammability it also has strong anaesthetic effect. I used to work with it, and am still very wary of it. Stay safe folks !!

Thank you for the feedback I i agree with you. I did have a good respirator on as shown in the beginning of the video. I also had my garage doors open.

I’ll add that to the description and add a annotation.

A respirator will NOT block ether fumes unless it is a compressed air-fed mask...
