One of the greatest films ever! I rewatched it a week and a half ago. When I saw it 15 yrs ago in theaters, in the moment where Gordon reveals himself and apprehends the Joker, a couple of people in the audience clapped their hands. It was the first time I ever heard anyone applaud during a movie (I was 16 at the time). The first time I heard the whole crowd applaud was twice during Deathly Hallows part 2 (when Harry came back to life and at the very end of the movie).
The HUGHEST reaction was during the original release of "Batman Begins" when Gordon flips the Joker card at the end. A resounding howling of excitement lasted for minutes and the entire audience had already by then bought their ticket to a guaranteed hit of the sequel before the trailer even came out.
No marvel film will ever top this film , a true classic that will be loved forever and Ledger will live on forever with this performance as the definitive Joker.
Seeing this in theaters really allows you to better appreciate Heath Ledger’s insane performance. When I went to see it in theaters recently, there was unfortunately a group of kids there that were acting out and talking through the first act and a half before an employee threatened to kick them out. But whenever the Joker came on screen, they would go dead quiet. Even when they were talking a little during the found footage scene where he’s torturing the fake Batman, the moment Ledger screamed “LOOK AT ME”, I’m not joking when I say all the kids went dead silent and looked right at the screen. It takes a certain kind of edge in an acting performance for one to be able to silence an audience (one of kids no less) at the drop of a dime. Absolutely legendary. 💯
I saw it on release back in 2008 with friends. We all knew it was going to be epic, dressed up for it, and the theatre was packed full with about 400 people. I still vividly remember that night and how special that viewing was. We all came away feeling it was a once in a lifetime viewing, up there with LOTR

Went to the midnight showing. I'm sitting next to a random guy who thought he knew everything about the batman universe. The beginning of this whole chase scene where he takes the shotgun out and shoots the cop. The guy says "sinister" to his friend after it happens. I can't watch the movie and not think of the guy randomly saying sinister.
Screenwriters and storytellers have such a thing as the main decision of the hero. For half the story, the hero comes to this decision and then reaps the fruits of his choice. In the first film, Batman's main decision was not to kill the peasant, which fake Ra's al Ghul demanded. In the third, get out of the pit without a safety rope. But if we consider the trilogy as a whole and the second film in particular, then the most important decision that Batman made was not to kill the Joker. All the troubles that followed were the fruits of this choice, but this decision cemented Batman's philosophy-even the Joker's life was untouchable. It was an easy way out for Batman, but he didn't fall for it.

I was shocked how come people are missing on such a masterpiece. And this was my first Christopher Nolan film. Gladly word of mouth spread like fire and then it was houseful for many days.
