    Playas de Tijuana has changed a lot since the 1960s or 1970s.

      I agree. But, then again. everything has changed since the 1970's. Playas is still a great spot in Tijuana. I'm in Bangkok today. I made plenty of Mexico videos, but also check out SE Asia. See ya later. Joe

    I haven't seen the video yet (I'm gonna watch it in a minute) but playas is great. I was just in mexico 4 weeks ago and on my 1st full day there which I learned half way through the day was their labour day I spent at playas. I've got a favorite coffee shop right on the beach that I try to get to every time I'm there. It was closed, but I found myself a nice fish taco and I got about halfway through it and I ended up busting a tooth as a 30 year old filling finally gave out. This is how I found out it was labour day because every damned dentist office around was closed. Finally I made my way over to the wal-mart looking for a DIY temporary filling kit. I didn't find one but the helpful lady in the pharmacy department sent me to a Roma that was a few blocks away and she thought a couple of dentist offices along the way might be open.
    I hadn't really heard anything about that area, but I was eager to get the damned tooth taken care of and she was so helpful it never dawned on me that she might be setting me up for something. As it turns out the neighborhood is actually amazing and no, she was just being helpful. Roma was a bust and the offices she thought might still be open were not, but they sent me somewhere else, which also wasn't open. I don't know if they were just all playing mess with the gringo but I doubt it, they were all being very nice.
    Also the neighborhood just east of the wal-mart is so lovely and so not what you see anywhere else in TJ. Lots of mature trees, shade, and quiet. More than that every block has a couple of cute coffee shops/restaurants and bars. Open up google maps and explore it. I even found a little outdoor food court that nobody on youtube has reviewed. I like TJ, until I walked around there on my wild goose (errr dentist) hunt did I ever see anything else like it in that city.
    Long story short I gave up around 6pm and went back to revolution. I was staying at the Ticuan and low and behold in a new little strip mall on revolution just south of Ticuan there was a brand new dentist office open. He saw me at 730, prepped me for a crown, put a temporary in so I could eat, put rush order on it and a day later put it in. It cost me about $380USD.
    I wasn't pleased about losing all that vacay time but I'm glad I got to wander around an area that I don't know that many gringos know about. Next time I'm there I'm going to really explore it.

      Yes, I've been up in the Roma area before. I had a buddy who had a condo up on the hill. He used to work nearby with the soccer team. It's nice up there.
      I agree the Playas area is nice. Many parts of Tijuana are beautiful. I've been going to Baja most of my 56 years. Today I retired and moved to Bangkok. Many parts of Thailand remind me of "old school" Baja. I had a lobster dinner for about $5 the other week. That's harder to do these days in Puerto Nuevo.
      I put together a nice collection of Baja videos. I hated to see the trouble in San Vicente the other day. I used to love going that way and fishing near The Old Mill hotel. Probably went there a dozen times. And, I was always a huge Baja 500/1000 guy. So it especially sucks they had trouble at an off-road event.
      Glad the tooth got fixed for less than $400. They do some amazing work down south. See ya later. Check out a few of my Bangkok videos. You might want to make the trip.

    Mexican Car Insurance is very important. I'm an affiliate for a great company in San Diego. Check out my link to Baja bound below. You can find a great policy using my link, at no extra cost to you. Below is a link to my video on how important it is to drive in Mexico with the proper insurance policy.

    I take the yellow ruta bus from 3rd and Martinez to Playas. 15 pesos. I go to that Walmart here all the time. Vittorio's Italian restaurant is great. Great gym out here called Aqua Rio. Etc. And the main thing with Playas...it is QUIET, whereas Centro is just not. MY God. Playas is the spot. Thanks for this video.

    Are the cops friendly or do they extort you if they find out your American?

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Рік тому +3

      Half of the traffic in Tijuana is from America. If you're speeding and get pulled over, you may be asked for money. People call that extortion. Maybe 40 bucks. In the US speeding can be 700 bucks. That's the real extortion! Nah the cops are cool unless you act like a fool. Guys screaming their wallet was emptied by a TJ cop, like to leave out the part about taking a leak on a public street. Or fighting in a bar. In 40 years of driving in Tijuana, I've never had a problem with a cop. Always with California plates. Other guys can't make 1 trip without trouble. Act like a normal person and you'll be treated with respect. Act like a jack ass and you'll be treated like cops used to treat idiots in the US in 1950s. Probably with a night stick.

      @@370hssv3 Yikes, that's a close one. It's true, they do not like tinted windows. I said in one video, to roll the windows down and blast the heater. The 80's had some real problems with the city police. The 90's it was the Federal Police. Still, I never had a problem. Things have mellowed out lately.
