Excellent video - As I write this my Ford Focus is at Firestone for an inspection sticker & they just called to tell me the left side inner tie rod needs replacing. Normally these kind of maintenance items are done at home but the weather is going to be bad for the next few days so I am letting Firestone replace it. They are charging $305. I could probably buy all new inner & outers for both sides for less $$$ if the work was done at home.

Yes a lot cheaper, rock auto has the OEM Motorcraft parts, outer TRE's left $16.83, Right $17.44 and the inner tre's $25.89 X2 that's $86.05 plus tax and shipping, round it off to $100 and ill be VERY surprised if Firestone used OEM parts!!!, most likely aftermarket parts... Hope your Focus passes inspection and get it back on the road with no further expenses!!!

@@mikeshowtoandthings thanks for the video, i was afraid of tackling this at home, but i will see if i can rent that tool out, i plan on taking my time and just doing all the suspension components on the car, since i cant seem to get rid of some damn clunking noises. i suspect its these damn inner tie rods that are the culprits.

@@jgarcia1925 If you lift the wheels off the ground and then grab the wheels at the 9 and 3 o clock positions and wiggle it side to side you will be able to tell fast if the TRE'S are at fault or not, also this tests the wheel bearings as well. The most common clunking noises from the ford focus front end are the stabilizer end links worn loose and or the stabilizer bar bushings are worn loose and the bar is rattling around. Good luck with your repairs!

@@mikeshowtoandthings thank you sir. i will do that tonight. hopefully i can get this taken care of. you dont need to hold the steering rack shaft at all with some vice grips correct? just use the tool and that is it?

@@jgarcia1925 Check on the steering rack shaft fully extended for a flat surface all the way next to the rack housing its self, if there is none then do as i did and just slowly break torque by hand on the inner tie rod end. But if you do have one yes use a pair of vise grips or an adjustable wrench and have someone hold it as you break torque.

So you are the guy that lock tights the tie rod nut so when I hit it with the uga-duga it just spins. And so I need to put a wrench and Allen on it and I know I'm just going to strip out the Allen. So then I need to split the nut and crush the threads. All I needed to replace was the knuckle but now I need to replace a what appears to be a new tie rod end.

Id be insane to use threadlocker RED on this application!!!, I used orange instead, has the hold of red but has the characteristics when torque is broke its the equivalent of threadlocker BLUE. Since I'm reusing hardware the nylon inserts of the lock nuts are weakened a bit and i want to have that tiny bit of extra insurance since the TRE nuts are only torqued to 26 FT pounds. Now if i had new lock nuts id skip the threadlocker all together and torque it dry!!!
