You guys should definitely check out their performance of this in Russia in 1991. Their former bassist Jason Newsted does amazing live backing vocals for the track, there were over 1 million people in attendance, and loads of people from the Soviet Union hearing metal for the first time and losing their minds over it

I think this might be the best song off of this album. Fade to Black is also legendary and For Whom The Bell Tolls is a classic, but this song just SLAYS!
So glad to see a younger generation finding Metallica. I grew up listening to these guys through the 80's and early 90s. I remember when the black album dropped, my high school building shook a little. Everyone that I knew had that cd in rotation. You guys should react to Disposable Heros from the Master of Puppets cd, imo is a top 5 song for them.
Great reaction guys. Yes there’s a lot of the Bible in metal. Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammetts band before Metallica actually is named Exodus. They still tour also
No Leaf Clover is one of my personal favorites from them and includes a live orchestra as well. The Unforgiven, Orion, and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) also definitely worth a listen.
As a kid growing up in the late 80s and early 90s my parents loved music of all genres and they made sure we grew up listening to everything. My dad is who introduced me to Metallica at a young age and that was it for me. They have been my favorite band ever since.
The song Ride the Lightning is about a guy going to the electric chair. It's the title track, and to me the best song the album. I would listen to this in my room as a teenager and picture the whole experience in my head. It was totally mind blowing. Rock and most metal is pretty deep. That's part of my love for it. The lyrics.
I think it is official that the fellas love Thrash Metal from all these Metallica reactions and even Megadeth. Do Slayer Seasons of the abyss and Anthrax - Indians and u got the big four
Best concert I ever went to was back in 89' when Metallica was part of the Monsters of Rock tour. There were 5 bands total that played that day in front of 80,000 people, and it was wild!!! The band's that played were Van Halen, Scorpion's, Dokken, Metallica, and Kingdom Come. Metallica was the heaviest and best out of the 5, but that's just my opinion. Overall a kick ass concert!!!!
The album cover is inded an electric chair getting struck by lightning. Greatest album cover of all time. The title track is a song speaking out against the death penalty. One of the lines in the song is "Who made you god to say: I'll take your life from you."
If you want to hear one of the best openings to a metal album ever you should check out Fight Fire With Fire off of this same album. It has got to be one of their hardest songs they ever made.
Prior to that, I never heard a guitar riff so fast and brutal. My 13 year old mind was blown to pieces! From that day forward, they were my favorite band.
So late to this. Got introduced to Metallica thru a copied cassette tape passed around our tiny Midwest town. Masking tape bearing the name Metallica in handwritten pen. Fantastic memory the first time you hear them. So glad you found them.
I've loved Metallica since I was a kid in the 80's. Tons of great music. Want to check out something crazy, they have done concerts with a symphony too. Check out the S&M album. The main song for that album was No Leaf Clover.
It’s a really weird experience to be an “old” Metal head watching these boys discover songs. They could be my sons. It’s wild. Boy is the hockey shirt is mega extra 😂. I’m not sure how you grow up with so much tech and music at your fingertips and not get a little curious. Glad y’all are having fun and checking things out now. Better late than never. Theologically speaking this song isn’t completely correct/in order of what happened in Exodus, but makes for great subject matter. Love to see what you fellas think of Symphony of Destruction and Peace Sells by Megadeth. Also recommend Vote with a Bullet by Corrosion of Conformity. Could give you 1,000 Recommendations. Be well. Do your homework. Eat your veggies. Say your prayers. Peace out.
Greatest song they ever wrote. And that's saying a lot, especially since it's their 2nd album. Incredible. The energy this song has live though, oh man, mad hype
Bought my first Metallica album ( Kill'Em All") a few months after it came out....just for reference To me...their best album is Ride.....all the others are meh
I just stumbled upon your channel recently and have been having such a good time watching you guys! You guys look like a super fun crew to hang with. I’m a super music nerd. I wanted to suggest, since you’re all into Metallica, that you might explore some other 80’s bands from Metallicas genre, Thrash Metal. Some bands to check out, Exodus ( that was started by Kirk Hammett, Metallicas guitarist), Sodom, Megadeath, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, or Anthrax…. So many more. I’d love to watch you guys trip on some of those, hahah! Crazy, but incredibly musically talented. Keep doing your show, it’s so fun! You guys are fun!
any song prior to 1990, you guys should do a review from the "live SHit Binge and Purge - Seattle" Concert - metallica live is a different beast! I Enjoy your effort to learn the meaning behind the lyrics and album.
Great reaction! My old punk band used to cover this song. Our guitar player was a super metal head and nailed the solo note for note. People usually left for our set. They came back when we played this song. Then left after. We still kicked ass! And so does this song! And so do your reactions!
Great reaction as always guys, some other great songs from bands I'm sure will hype you up also: Bring me the horizon - 1x1 Staind- been a while Fuel - shimmer
I love watching the sheer enjoyment you guys are getting from it. Im 52. Was 18 then. Dude in the red you can see by his facial expressions. My man in the blue is rookie headbanger slowly graduating to be a pro. You all need to grow dreads and let the hair fly. Like us white boys grew our hair and headbanged. Metallica are still touring and throwing out albums in 22 and they just get better and I've seen them live 3 times over the years And last time with my son who is 26 and I first seen Metallica when I was 17 that same year I saw megadeth at donington monsters of rock in 1988 and slayer in Glasgow iron maiden Edinburgh with killer dwarfs Celtic frost UK was full of metal thrash bands
I'm a middle aged guy out here in Hawaii, and I have to say that I enjoy watching reaction videos of the younger generation listening to music that I grew up listening to. I enjoy the videos! Please keep 'em coming. "One" is my personal favorite Metallica song.
The quote "Ride the Lightning" in reference to being fried in the chair was read by Metallica's lead guitarist, Kirk Hammett in a Stephen King book called the Stand. That was the inspiration for the album name and artwork.
I just watched your first Metallica reaction followed straight away by this one...this was amazing. Bunch of dudes first getting exposed, sorta feeling it, then straight into full-on fandom.
"Spit Out The Bone" next! Its a BANGER. Also I would love to see you guys react to some of Metallicas most legendary live shows! (Seattle, Mexico City etc.)
@@DerEchteBold isnt "really" Metallica... "DerEchteBold" defines what metallica really is, thanks for the enlightment. If its not your type of tea, okay I respect that. I also highly prefer the first five albums but if you think anything after 91 isnt "really" Metallica, you have no idea what the band really is and stands for. By the way, Spit out the Bone is more thrash and "oldschool-Metallica" than anything on the black album.
@@xKisukeX96 More Thrash? Well, that's the problem right there! They should've gone with their new style and develop from there or just quit, instead of trying to relive their youth ever since, failing over and over, putting out yawn after yawn, becoming a pale copy of themselves. I tried listening to that last album with an old friend and we were bored to death halfway through. Just listened to the song you named just to be sure and yeah...It has a few nice moments but stll pretty pointless overall, why would you want to listen to that when there's the first 5 albums?! C'mon, seriously, you just listened to Creeping Death here, compared to that the other song is just some entirely unremarkable messing around, it's somewhat fast, that's cool, but that alone doesn't help much.
@@DerEchteBold They have the right to stay at their Thrash Metal Style. If you want Metallica to Evolve, why you dont speak about the Load und ReLoad or Garage Ära ? Even the St.Anger Ära is very unique. Its not really Nu Metal and not really Thrash Metal, something in between just like System of a Down a Own Cup of Tea and it Rocks !
One of the saddest things I've ever seen was when, back in the day, Lars' dad would come party with the band while they were recording their albums. Cliffs dad, eventhough cliff was already dead from the Metallica bus accident, he came to party too. James' daddy came not to party but to try desperately to talk to his son about coming back home to God and him. But James wouldn't hear of it. The dads still came but james' dad was no longer there. I don't know if he died or what but that old man lived for trying to get his son back from the evil entity which is Metallica that he created. It's sad

To truly appreciate this particular song tho....you gotta get a clip LIVE in the 80s. Watching 30,000 screaming OG Metalheads chanting "DIE" at the drop....MAKES IT
Remember this song when I was a teenager growing up in rural Indiana. Went swimming with a bunch of friends on a hot summer night. This song was blasting on the radio and the guys(they had super long hair) were head banging in the car singin “Dry, Dry my hair!” Instead of die. Good times!

Nailed it! Couldnt agree more
As a kid growing up in the late 80s and early 90s my parents loved music of all genres and they made sure we grew up listening to everything.
Do Slayer Seasons of the abyss and Anthrax - Indians and u got the big four
fuck man this is bringing me back!! haven't listened to that Anthrax track in ages
We need some Van Halen!!!!
Creeping Death Live Moscow 1991. Quite possibly the best live performance I have ever seen.
Could give you 1,000
Recommendations. Be well. Do your homework. Eat your veggies. Say your prayers. Peace out.
You took the red pill. Metallica will take you down a rabbit hole. They’ll show you how deep that hole goes.
Greatest song they ever wrote. And that's saying a lot, especially since it's their 2nd album. Incredible. The energy this song has live though, oh man, mad hype
Bought my first Metallica album ( Kill'Em All") a few months after it came out....just for reference
To me...their best album is Ride.....all the others are meh
and think, this was new in the 80s. They were on another level.
You guys are great for doing these. Music can bring people together from all different cultures and walks of life. Respect gentlemen
Great reaction!
My old punk band used to cover this song. Our guitar player was a super metal head and nailed the solo note for note.
People usually left for our set. They came back when we played this song.
Then left after.
We still kicked ass! And so does this song! And so do your reactions!
Great reaction as always guys, some other great songs from bands I'm sure will hype you up also:
Bring me the horizon - 1x1
Staind- been a while
Fuel - shimmer
I love watching the sheer enjoyment you guys are getting from it. Im 52. Was 18 then. Dude in the red you can see by his facial expressions. My man in the blue is rookie headbanger slowly graduating to be a pro. You all need to grow dreads and let the hair fly. Like us white boys grew our hair and headbanged. Its a great release of energy. Especially if you had a bad day. You guys rock
Just found your channel it's lit you guy's should do the live version in Moscow 1991🤘
These guys were like 21 when this album came out in the early 80's. Kirk Hammett's previous band was Exodus.
06:30 iconic riff
That breakdown is the most epic and awesome shit ever
And Kirk was only 16 when he wrote it!
Metallica are still touring and throwing out albums in 22 and they just get better and I've seen them live 3 times over the years
And last time with my son who is 26 and I first seen Metallica when I was 17 that same year I saw megadeth at donington monsters of rock in 1988 and slayer in Glasgow iron maiden Edinburgh with killer dwarfs Celtic frost UK was full of metal thrash bands
Leper Messiah is the filthy groove. Anything off the first 4 albums will blow your minds.
Slayer : Angel of death
I'm a middle aged guy out here in Hawaii, and I have to say that I enjoy watching reaction videos of the younger generation listening to music that I grew up listening to. I enjoy the videos! Please keep 'em coming. "One" is my personal favorite Metallica song.
Y’all need to react to Metallica- The Four Horsemen
Pls keep the Metallica reactions coming!!!!!
The quote "Ride the Lightning" in reference to being fried in the chair was read by Metallica's lead guitarist, Kirk Hammett in a Stephen King book called the Stand. That was the inspiration for the album name and artwork.
Y’all got to react to Ride The Lighting
I just watched your first Metallica reaction followed straight away by this one...this was amazing. Bunch of dudes first getting exposed, sorta feeling it, then straight into full-on fandom.
"Spit Out The Bone" next! Its a BANGER. Also I would love to see you guys react to some of Metallicas most legendary live shows! (Seattle, Mexico City etc.)
Indeed. Spit out the bone is on my all time jogging list. With A nightmare long and with ST.Anger
What the hell is that?
Anything after '91 isn't really Metallica!
@@DerEchteBold
isnt "really" Metallica...
@@xKisukeX96
More Thrash?
My favorite album. So many good songs. Me my cuz and our buddy would cruise around town listening to this album and smoking weed
It's sad
I swear homie in red hat is my spirit animal, he's constantly feeling something a little deeper and trying to analyze the shit out of everything!
One of my favorite things about youtube will ALWAYS be watching people from other walks of life, different musical tastes, openly explore and examine music that I love. Good times. I always have fun watching your guys' reactions.
I'm a 43 year old white man love Metallica Love Bone Thugs-N-Harmony love as he Osbourne love the goat Marshall Mathers love Guns and Roses love little Wayne all of them have so much fire songs it's unreal thank God for my big brothers and sister I have a widespread of music while you are on the Metallica reactions you should check out Seek and Destroy Four Horsemen battery Ride the Lightning the song itself always great reactions see you on the next one peace
You young men have to now go to a Metallica concert. You will never be the same, I have seen them 6 times from the age of 16 to 44 years old. They are one of the best live shows 🤘🤘🤘
My favorite Metallica album 🤘🏼Love seeing grown men discover new love for Metallica so awesome
This is THE Metallica song to me and many others. Just the essence of this band distilled into its concentrate and lit ablaze.
You need to see this live.Being in the crowd and chanting "die"...hard to describe.I can say without a doubt that when Metallica has thousands upon thousands of people in that state it wouldn't take much to boil into rampant violence.Testament to how awesome those guys are...I've seen them play that six times, and everyone leaves the arena smiling.Sometimes beat up from the moshing, but happy because of a great show.Creeping Death is a game changer.
yup... I love this... brings back memories of hearing it for the first time 💯 I kept CD on repeat
no cell phones, no online stuff back then... you had to get a ride to the store to buy it... I mowed 10 lawns to afford this.
my parents wouldn't buy this "TRASH" for me.
such amazing memories 🙏
just try to envision a world with no internet, no cell phones, not insta, Facebook, UA-cam, ANY INTERNET ACCESS... I had to beg a ride to Kmart to get this CD
Creeping Death...
Straight from the book of Exodus
Epic Song!
Glad you guys are listening to old/Great Heavy Metal!
My absolute favourite Metallica album, a real game changer for Metal when it was released. Love to see you guys getting into some Metal 🤘
I'm so glad you all played Creeping Death! "Seek And Destroy" "Harvester Of Sorrow", "Shortest Straw", "Kill Em All" and my 90s favorite "Until It Sleeps" guys!!!!! Play it next!!!!!
*** I LOVE ** the fact you guys are sticking to Studio Versions !!!
Lets Goooo another Fire reaction! this is Metallica at their prime =)
To truly appreciate this particular song tho....you gotta get a clip LIVE in the 80s.
Watching 30,000 screaming OG Metalheads chanting "DIE" at the drop....MAKES IT
The first 5 albums from Metallica are absolute god tier all the songs are insane
Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is a killer track! Very clear message about what happens when mental health is ignored.
My favorite Metallica album. Takes me back to the 80’s big time
Remember this song when I was a teenager growing up in rural Indiana. Went swimming with a bunch of friends on a hot summer night. This song was blasting on the radio and the guys(they had super long hair) were head banging in the car singin “Dry, Dry my hair!” Instead of die. Good times!
Absolutely love what you guys are doing…keep opening eyes and ears to other forms of art to help unite us all! God knows we need help from within ourselves to accomplish unity, because there are way too many forces purposely trying to divide us for their own benefit!
