Dave Mustaine has said that he didn't want Megadeth to sound like Metallica when he formed the band in 1983 after being fired... He hired more technically gifted musicians for Megadeth because he wanted more unpredictability and dual lead guitars (Metallica has a rhythm- lead guitar combo of James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett)... Dave Mustaine was on lead guitar, and so was their first guitarist Chris Poland... their first drummer (the late) Gar Samuelson was a phenomenal drummer who could even play jazz (Lars Ulrich, the drummer of Metallica, was not technically gifted... but he could make a noise on the kit!) Megadeth actually recorded the original version of 'The four horsemen'... titled 'Mechanix'. The contrast between the 2 versions is the difference between Metallica and Megadeth sonically.
7:52 story is that lars (the drummer) wanted a slower section in the song, and dave mustaine jokingly played the sweet home alabama riff. Upon hearing it, lars insisted they have something similar in their song and they made a variation of the riff for the four horsemen
I had the pleasure of seeing Metallica live with Jason Newstead in the band for the last time a while back now, and they played this-and no word of a lie, the atmosphere was absolutely amazing-as soon as the opening chords sounded the whole crowd went crazy lol. All I saw was hair flayling everywhere with fellow Metalliheads just going crazy, going crazy with those air guitars-it was just such an incredible experience. 4 Horseman of the Apocolypse was the very first silent movie to make a million dollars in the mid 20s the great Rudolph Valentino was the star. An extroidinarily well done movie for its time. Not a heavy metal fan but if your into this kind of music I guess this is what you'd listen to.
Yes Dave Mustaine actually provided the majority of the gear and instruments to get started. He was considered to be out of control by managers and the other members were forced to kick him out of the band. Megadeth is very solid as a band. It's like comparing Peyton Manning to Tom Brady. One has more hardware than the other but both were leaders in thrash genre. Metallica would be short a few of their best cuts if not for Mustaine so he has to get credit since it's due!
@johnpsy4129 I'm actually a huge Metallica fan. Mustaine has his place in metal, and he certainly has some great lyrics and music to support a warranted spot in metal. There's an old Metallica video maybe Cliff 'em All where Ulrich tells the entire story of how the band formed. Ulrich is my source and I don't think he'd have reason to fabricate their beginning especially crediting a huge part of their beginning successes to Mustaine. Great video obviously its Metallica. Do watch sometime and you'll enjoy! I've been into Metallica since late 80s and have always regarded them as the best band of metal! No other band has stood the test of time even through turmoil as they have. Also, I'm not a queer so I don't suck dong!

Megadeth is a badass band too !! But I remember first listening to this band for the first time and man I knew I had to get a guitar after listening to these guys
I once had a roommate who ONLY listened to R&B. He insisted he would not listen or be open to listening to bands like Metallica. Then he moved in with me. He had no choice. Over a period of a month he kept walking in from work and I would have my OG Metallica records spinning. Finally, one day in the car he says put on Metallica I want to hear that and see what’s what. So I did. Within a week he was a huge metal fan. All the sudden I see him walk in with a bag of CD’s and they are all Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and so on. I was stunned. He said man I’ve been missing out all these years this music is freakn awesome. I appreciate music in general but there is something about metal and Metallica that just evokes emotions like nothing else.

4 Horseman of the Apocolypse was the very first silent movie to make a million dollars in the mid 20s the great Rudolph Valentino was the star. An extroidinarily well done movie for its time. Not a heavy metal fan but if your into this kind of music I guess this is what you'd listen to.
I effin love you guys, shit is mad hard
Yes Dave Mustaine actually provided the majority of the gear and instruments to get started. He was considered to be out of control by managers and the other members were forced to kick him out of the band. Megadeth is very solid as a band. It's like comparing Peyton Manning to Tom Brady. One has more hardware than the other but both were leaders in thrash genre. Metallica would be short a few of their best cuts if not for Mustaine so he has to get credit since it's due!
Only 4 songs needed Mustaine's credit, but only on half the riffs, so yeah.....
Lol mustane didnt provide them with anything they already had their own gear
@@johnpsy4129 you may need to research my friend!
@@jessemontgomery6470 Megadeth fanboys will never cease to amaze me, dont suck mustaine so much
@johnpsy4129 I'm actually a huge Metallica fan.

Us long time metal fans love watching you discover and enjoy it. Incredible content.
Four horsemen on their debut album still holds up as an all time great Metallica song.
Ride The Lightning is what I’d recommend next.
In my opinion, it's the best (hands down) Metallica song ever! I can't stop listening to it!
Megadeth is a badass band too !! But I remember first listening to this band for the first time and man I knew I had to get a guitar after listening to these guys
I completely dig watching you guys discovering some Old School Metallica.
So much of their music is so deep.

I guess I should check 😵💫
Your Metallica reactions always cheer me up, rock on yall🤘
"Creeping Death" live in Moscow and "Fight Fire with Fire" live at Hammerfest 1985. Come on fellas. 😎 Also, "Battery" live in Seattle '89 (they play it faster than the studio version). You'll thank me later. 😁 🤘 Even if you don't "react" to them you should watch regardless.
Creeping Death for sure.
Am I Evil and Hit the Lights, other favorites of mine.
PANTERA . Hard to say better. Different with more groove, but just as heavy.
And like others have said: their live show in Seattle 1989 is easily their best live show. Check that out if you wanna see them in their angry prime 💪
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - Behold the Pale Horse for the one who rides upon him is Death. This has always been my favorite Metallica song!!!
I've been waiting for this one! Fun to play on both guitar and Clone Hero. The Kill 'em All album is crazy.
Been waiting for you guys to do this song. This song just absolutely gets you fired up. This is my first play on my workout list.
Im from that time of music. Let me know and I would be honored to let you guys know all about the great music from the 80s!! This is a crazy song with the Megadeth and Metallica war. It was a great time to be alive fellas!!! Yall are great!!! Im just an old school guy. I would love to go over today and yesterdays music with you fellas!! Great Job Guys!!!!!!
You guys make this music fun again.. Love it.
Guaranteed that "HARVESTER OF SORROW" will be your favorite Metallica reaction!!
Metallica is my favorite thrash Metal band of all time. A buddy of mine turned me onto them back in the 80's when I was still in high school. Unfortunately my parents wouldn't let me go to concerts so I never got to see them live.
I'm glad y'all loved this one! You gotta check out Fight Fire With Fire 🔥
+1 y'all really need to do this one next
Trapped has nice pace too 🤘🏻
Those green hoodie guy was really get in "trrrrackkkk" ☺
I would love to see you guys react to “To Live Is To Die”, it’s a tribute to Cliff Burton their original bassist! The solos in that song are crazy!
Second bass player, don't forget John Mcgoverny.
@@lonnieisaacs382*Ron McGovney
@@theabsolute23 I know Ron. I thought maybe spell check made it John. It didn't just now, so I guess, in my haste to correct someone else, I should have slowed down and done it wright!
Cliff was awesome though!!!
Always blasted Metallica and to this day. TC/AZ Navajo Nation Western Agency Tuba City Warrior
Fear of the dark.. iron maiden live.. great tune
“Hit the lights” on this album is one of my fav metallica songs
You have to listen to the live version! Seattle 1989 is the best concert!
Literaly my favorite metalica, thee vocal melody and the guitar are just, perfect
This is one of their most popular songs and always played at their live shows. I recommend whiplash from this album. It’s pretty much about being at a show and going crazy in a good way
Metallica were so raw then. They just got more and more amazing over the next 3 albums
This has been and always will be the best Metallica song in my opinion
Oh yeah and nothing was better than listening to some Metallica before a football game in school it would psych you up something fierce
Love that you guys are experiencing Metallica for the first time. Amazing band with a TON of hits!!! They have legitimately 60 incredible songs.
Metallica is better then megadeth
The closing guitar solo is my favorite solo of all time
Love your Family connection and reaction! This is my 2nd favorite Metallica song behind Ride the Lightning!
Now you're cooking with fire. I saw Metallica on this tour in '83, then again in '88 at the Monsters of Rock concert. If you want to see how all this incredible music was made possible you should watch the documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown. It's the story of the Funk Brothers, the band behind the Motown sound. It's one of the greatest tributes to music ever. Joe Hunter alone is amazing.
Great Megadeth songs to do- symphony of destruction, skin o’ my teeth, peace sells, sweating bullets 👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍
Have to do ride the lightning,I saw how much you like sanitarium, believe you will have the same if not better reaction!!!
The tune that brought me into the fold back in the early eighties! Killer guitar riff!
Now…. you gotta check out ‘Peace Sells’ by Megadeth! Full roar!!!
Metallica still blow me away, you guys make this experience so fun
im curious have any of you guys ever gone to see metallica? they are touring in 2023 so if you never seen them get yourselfs some tickets and enjoy them live. you will not be disappointed~!!!!!!!!!
You guys crack me up.
We reacted the SAME WAY you did BACK IN THE DAY.
Welcome, my brothers.
I cut my metal teeth on guitar in the late 80s playing Metallica tunes! I as 29 at that time. I’m old as dirt and still play. Metallica made me want to seriously play guitar😎😎
I am so proud of you guys including The Four Horseman in your Metallica repertoire and so glad you like it so much.
Trapped Under Ice. Great one. It has an emotion while being hard.
My all time favorite Metallica song. This one always really got me hyped. Especially that divebomb followed by the galloping riff. The hardest songs that I can play (rhythm) are this one, "Creeping Death," and "Holy Wars."
Man, I would rock this song on my guitar hard! I lived through it back in those days and it's still playing hard till this day. I still jam this song on my guitar because it brings me back to my youth. You boys are a little late to hear it, but better late than never. Keep rocking it. Metal rules!
Salutations Gentlemen,
Thank You.... I feel vindicated for espousing similar impressions way back in 1987, it occurred to me back then; this track was my favorite, being so heavily riffed, with killer solos, nasty lyrics.... and that break midsong.... damn!
Be Well, Cheers, May You All Be Amply Blessed!
