I don't typically like live versions more that studio versions, but this is exceptional. What a great performance, and it blows the studio album version of these 2 songs away.
Mike Rutherford's guitar solo towards the end is simply fantastic. I loved the echoing of the electric guitar... He's an incredible guitarist he is, underrated !

First time ever leaving a comment on you tube. Anyone who can mention Genesis and Vivaldi in the same sentence has my attention. Thank-you God for people who can appreciate the good music, whatever genre!
In my opinion, Genesis is one of the greatest bands of all times; spanning many years. While their music may not have always been the most complicated; the arrangement and composition was simply masterful. Where you like progressive rock or not; if you truly love music, you have to appreciate the talent it took to create, produce and perform music with this level of intricacies. You could give Billie Eilish and her brother a billion dollars and 10 years and they couldn’t come close to creating songs like this or Abacab; Sqonk; los endos; lamb lies down on Broadway; etc.
This is when time stops , and you realise you are in a galaxy that takes 4 billion years to do one rotation, and this performance is even beyond that fact . One of my favourite tunes from one of the all time great bands
Phil Collins said in the ”Way We Walk” DVD, "I had the idea of this burglar going into this house and suddenly finding out it was haunted, which I thought was quite funny. I took that idea further and made it one of those songs about looking back over people's lives who are trapped in the past, but there's nothing they can do about it."
Awesome!!! This is a classic Genesis, Gabriel era, music and stage style presentation. The band members might change and age physically, but the music never gets old. The music of Genesis will be fresh and awesome, long after the band member have passed from this life.
Fortunately I've seen them at Manchester on the weekend.....Phil not in best of health.....BUT.....he gave 100000%.....Genesis through their music have made my life very happy......amazing and thank you
At 9:03 - an epic moment by my boy Phil in this beyond epic drumming performance of his. He puts this masterpiece right into "The Instant Drumming Classics And The Greatest Drumming Performances of All Times" archive, which is exactly where all his performances find their place. Above and beyond all other drummers' abilities.
My dad got ”The Way We Walk” video (VHS) tape when I was a kid, with interviews about all the songs. I LOVE the instrumental jam session! My dad explained that Phil Collins wears earplugs when he's singing because the speakers in front would make him go deaf, so that's why he takes them out when he's drumming. You can even see him on the right side, walking back up to the front at 10:43; his jeans look white against the blue lighting.
When I was getting into my teen years, one of my favorite things to do was air drum along with Phil. This performance in particular is my favorite because you can feel the weight behind Phil's drums. (Also, I think Chester being there has something to do with it as well, he's a fantastic drummer too.) It was just so awesome. I still air drum this song every now and then, because it's just so awesome.
It is truly a magnificent piece from 1983, which makes it even more amazing as Genesis had pretty much transformed into a pop mainstream machine at this point( although their live shows were still awesome), so when we get these prog-type tracks at this juncture, we tend to relish them even more since they are so few and far between going forward.
lol, 'BULLSHIT'?..thats the best you got? lmao Many people like the late period GENESIS ( millions in fact). Just admit you like mainstream pop...there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. My comment obviously wasn't directed for your approval or appreciation.

Had it on VHS tape, had it on cd, had it on cassette in my walkman. Listened and watched it a 1000 times everywhere at those days, just couldn`t get enough of it! It was listen - repeat, listen - repeat, listen - repeat etc. haha. Seen it for the first time today in a very, very long time and it`s still a f@cking masterpiece!!!
This is probably my favourite Genesis track. Also live, their stage shows were always new and inventive. I'm pretty sure this was the first time a band had an open stage, with the screen behind them (not on either side) and with no overhead lighting rigs. Home By The Sea is perfect for that set up and having the screens moving apart (@ 9:03) is undeniably cool. Also, all the best bands sound better live and I think this is 20 times better than the recorded version.

The older I get, the more Genesis I listen to...What they do best, is best exemplified in this video. They more accurately duplicated their studio sound in a live setting than any other band save Steely Dan. This is easier to do now in the 21st century because music production technology has gotten more powerful, lighter weight and less expensive. But, from the start of popular music through the mid 90's bands routinely struggled to sound good live. A concert is not just an excuse to be able to play loud. The sound has to be crafted and mixed to showcase the band as a unit and to spotlight the individual players. Lastly, finding a group of musicians and technicians who care enough about the music to properly showcase it live is also a challenge.
Banks. Collins. Working together...and it showed to the point where, I gotta say -- "Thanks."
