    Each moment of this song is a masterpiece in prog rock. The tempo change for the breakdown in the middle, the spooky story told, the wailing vocals, the building keyboard accompaniments, that funky guitar in that breakdown, underrated classic

      Just reading an argument today on an FB group called "Progressive Rock" about whether this is really "Prog" or not. Kind of funny comments, but to be honest I'm on the fence. I listen to 'Seconds Out' like monthly or more, and Lamb and other 70's output too. This is great but I'm not sure I would call it true "Prog rock". I'm glad they were able to make some real money and reach stadium audiences, they deserve it for their early musical genius, and supporting the lighting innovations that Showco and VariLight did with them in mind, at the very least. Their light shows raised the bar for the entire touring music industry.

    • @HandlebarOrionX
      @HandlebarOrionX Рік тому +2

      @@SuppersReady8880 I think it counts even with the more pop like sound because of the experimentation. Genesis was one of the first British bands to experiment using both a drum machine and real acoustic drums for added drama at the same time, and these songs blend snd bleed into each other on the album. With instruments piling up to build to a crescendo. The only thing non-prog about this specific song though is that the time stamps and tempo only change at the part 2

      I worked at the Ritz Carlton at Water Tower Place during that tour, 5 sold out nights at the Rosemount Horizon and the band stayed with us. I got to see the whole band from just a few feet away and met Mike Rutherford. I let the tour manager (Andy Mackrill) into his safety deposit box and chatted for a bit. Came in the next day and my boss had comp tickets for me from the band. A very good show and they left me a tour jacket too. I also got to set up reservations for Peter Gabriel on the So tour when they stayed with us twice. Never met the band but did get to see the show at Poplar Creek, 21st row, dead center.

    The first time I heard this song was on a Friday night during a 40 minute trip from Miami University of Ohio to Cincinnati after passing around a joint in the car. By the time we got to the extended instrumental around the 4:20 mark through until the 10:00 mark, the car was completely silent in utter amazement as to what our ears were experiencing. We ended up at a Skyline Chili, had about 6 conies and a 5-way and went back into the car for more. Unbelievable musical experience I'll never forget.

    Saw them perform this at Hampton Coliseum back in the day. Was the first big name act I ever saw live. To say I was blown away was an understatement. One the coolest things was the back and forth dual drums between Phil and Chet. Slowly, almost imperceptively at first each drummer along with his kit began rising until each was almost touching the ceiling. Hearing this now transports me back in time to that moment.

    At this point I find I'm listening to the 80's and 90's Genesis as a type of fix. The most special parts of my life was filled with Genesis and Phill and the others. With technology being as it is now, I think it might be time to start organizing some Hologram concerts. I'd give my left bodypart to see the 86 tour again. Take all my kids, show them where I met and fell in love with their Father. He spent the whole concert singing every word and air guitaring every chord. He passed 15 years ago but I play these for him at great decibels so he can continue. Good times ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

      You can see the entire 87 live show on the Wembley Stadium Inv Touch Tour DVD. It was the first live concert recorded on Hi Def tape. Unfortunately they haven't put it on Blu Ray yet, or 4K, which is nuts, but the DVD looks pretty darn good. It's also on YT.
      I saw Genesis live 10 times on 6 different tours. I treasure every memory.

Then he showed up on the dietary sheet. His room was the dieticians office. Then people started believing me. I guess it was a Spanish boy the age of 12 must of died on that floor. He quit messing with me tho. Still creepy.
