I am crying so much... Since I was 10 I have watched this live countless times with my dad, he was a massive Genesis fan and golden dad❤️.
At 55 years old he was diagnosed with Dementia with Lewy Bodies, he then got worse every day and since there is still no cure he lived a miserable 8 years of hell, I have no idea how he did it, but before losing his mind completely he was still smiling at me, staying strong, and supporting me, he was a super positive person and everybody loved him. I got everything from him: passions, sports, culture, his manners, etc...
He was my hero...
Even though he did not believe in god, I am sure he went straight to heaven, he was a gift on this earth.
Everytime I watch this video now I can't do anything but to cry like a fountain, all the memories of him pass through my head, this music is still, and will be forever, magic.
I wish one day I'll make you proud...
Love you forever dad, nobody was like you...
Rest in peace Marco❤️❤️
God bless you Brother
😔
Beautiful words ❤ God bless you brother
Your dad heard you say these lovely words.
The 17 minutes of music here are the best on the net. The perfection, the quality, the musicchanges are brilliant. It's a wonderful pleasure for the ears and a mindblowing experience. The ending with Afterglow is the cherry on the cake. Really really brilliant piece of music.
I don t speck english very Wellington i m italian but I love GENESIS AND
I HAVE ALL L.P OF THIS BAND .WHAT YOUR NAME AND WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
After 60 odd years in the ‘biz’, I’m sure Phil is quite happy to let his legacy speak for him at this point, even as much as we’d all love to see him pick up the sticks again. Luckily, he fathered some seriously talented children so the Collins legacy lives on even though the patriarch is taking a well deserved rest at present.
Felici Luigi I don’t speak any Italian but you are part of our family with our love of this exceptional band of musicians.
This is a masterpiece of rockmusic
@@hanshurzeler4060 Indeed !
The way Phil and Chester are bang on together is genius. Perfection
I had forgotten just how fantastic this is.......................................
This is only my second comment I've ever made, I have grown up listening to these guys since as long as I can remember and now the person who introduced me to them has passed away. I just want to say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR INTRODUCING ME TO THE MOST IMPORTANT BAND I THINK WILL EVER EXIST IN MY LIFE TIME 🖖
my first genesis live was seen in 1972 in Schauburg theater in Münster. since this time i'm a great fan!!!
after all those years i find they are marvellous , i'm almost 64 and still fan of genesis and his actors , thanks
Same here aged 67.❤❤❤
Saw em live 1st time when i was 16 now im 66 and im crying and full of goosebumps
Can you ever get fed up of watching & listening to this superb music?????? Amazing!!!!!!!
17 minutes of pure musical genius. I saw them at the Old Trafford, Manchester, gig as part of this same tour. Absolutely mind-blowing 😊
Phil and the band are just pure magic.
This is great stuff.
It's so nice to see not a single smartphone
It was so gloriously unexpected that the band chose to play this medley. I mean, when was it they last played the Cage? This was stunning, heartfelt, deeply emotional, and so fabulously played. I will remember this forever, and it will crack me open with emotion every time. Extraordinary!
Never get bored listening to this 17-minute medley (I lost count on how many times I have listened to this).. Thanks 🙏
....word...
Same here 😊 I saw them play this at the Manchester gig - along with 75,000 others - as part of this same tour. Fabulous fabulous experience! ❤
I was lucky to see genesis live 3 times, nec Birmingham, roundhey park leeds and rome. they truly are legends, some great memories watching this amazing video. this is why youtube was invented.
Irre Irre Irre, so genial!
The most beautiful live version of Afterglow ever! The sun has just set on the Circus Maximus in front of over 500,000 people. Rome 2007, for eternity.
Lucky boy !
What an immense privilege it is to have seen this concert live
c'ero, concordo... e sono appena andato a salutarli ad Amsterdam. piango ancora
Indeed you are very lucky! I only seen Phil and is still sends me chills...
Si demasiada suerte, yo no los ví en concierto nunca. Pero en mi imaginación toque la batería junto a Phill mil veces, pero no era la batería, eran los sillones de mi casa.
I was with a female friend at the Phil Collins concert, and we got drunk before the concert. In his first song, we were too drunk, and I only remember his first song, when the guards kicked us out.
@@pabloandresalcayaga What a wasted opportunity
Just a perfect 17 minutes of live rock!
Progressive 🤓🤓
dopo 50 anni sempre la stessa emozione... brividi !!
The best piece of music ever written, ever.
Truth....and a few others I have heard from other musos....
i wonder how much music you heard, and which
At the age of 18 we danced at the heavy rock disco in UMIST Manchester to the who, rolling stones etc and then the dj played the carpet crawlers. Ever since despite Zeppelin Floyd Tom Petty U2
simple minds .... etc I still return to Genesis. at the age of 66 I believe they were the best band of my era and the concert in Rome was their greatest ever. Thank you for enriching my life , one day I will not type in you tube Genesis Rome and then I presume I will have gone or dementia has finally taken me
The sheer joy on that man's face at 10.16 is a joy in itself.....
I was in Geneva, stade des Charmilles, 03.09.1982 !!! the concert of my life !!
the greatest musicians of all time
There is no better version of "In the cage" than this one. It's just perfect how they play and Collins sings it. Imo Collins was great on this tour, yes they played most of the songs in a lower key, but his vocal control and the tone of his voice was just amazing. Laid back but still powerful. The DVD is one of the best concert films in my collection.
It's great isn't it!
Despite being English, I never got to see them.
I did actually have tickets for their last concert at the O2 but the thought & cost of seeing & hearing dear old Phil looking like he was about to become the next one for a state funeral made me bail! 😕
Actually, for me the best In The Cage version is from the first leg of the Invisible Touch Tour, they played it with In That Quiet Earth and the Supper's Ready ending.

That medley played live, it doesn't matter at which concert, is the most powerful and exciting piece rock of any kind that I know of. And I'm not even a huge Genesis fan!
And then you should be!! ❤
I must agree, one of my absolut favor songs
Le drumming de folie de Chester...
Absolutely incredible! And let's hope it shuts up all those dopeys who erroneously claim that, once Gabriel and Hackett left the band they became "just a commercial pop group." Yes, well, listen to this......
Afterglow still gives me the shivers. So much of me in that song. Phil has always sung it with great passion. Respect.
afterglow best version : 78, 80, 81 for the drums

Banks song ¡¡
Not bad eh Giuseppe 👍
One of the best songs Genesis ever did. Still moves me to this day after listening to it on & off for 42 & half years now.🙂🙂👍👍
In the Cage live. Wow! Just Wow!
One of the best keyboard solo! Thx Tony Banks
Fantastic peaces !!!!!! Collins sounds tight , Real original style, Chester IS a super drummer behind this masterpeace
The best Progressive band ever ... especially when Peter Gabrie was there ....
Nessuno come loro ❤️
Words can't describe this adequately.
I saw this live in Helsinki. Mind: Blown
I saw this in Frankfurt - one of the most moving moments of my life
They do tend to have that effect on people.
pure class
Can’t believe this is over 12 years ago saw them in Manchester London and Paris all bloody awesome
Whoever didn't get watery eyes, lump on their throats and/or goose bumps is a liar....what intensity and beauty too much for the body to handle. If it felt so intense on the computer screen I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like Live.
Absolute Class!!
It is highly unlikely that we will see talent like this again ever, pure genius, bands of today watch and learn.
It’s out there. Just the record companies would never give them a moments thought these days
They are simply One of the Greatest SUPERGROUPS of all Time. If you didn't live in this era then I'm very sorry for you!
The best EVER....................
4:10....monumental passage...epic...
Have watched this over and over and always brings a tear to my eye - just fucking brilliant
Terry O'Brien agree..its just fucking brilliant.!!
oh good god, that was amazing. It just blew me away. Im 58yrs old, so my comment isn`t really that surprising . Any comments from our younger people?
I love Genesis and I have never been to their concert ... I will regret it for the rest of my days.
A nation that you could carpet in an afternoon owned 25% of the known planet, gives the world some of the most subliminally beautiful music on this spinning rock & a monarch who's death sends reverberations through societies from Alaska to the Amazon rainforest!
One of the best progressive rock bands of all times. There is no par to them. Great Genesis since the 60s.
I watched many many many many many times
I had the good fortune of seeing them live in the late 1970 -80s but then they were doing more of the Phil Collins drum biased stuff. But when they played the old stuff it was breath taking.
Genesis' best collage of all time!
Wow, I feel sad, how on earth is any band going to better this! No politics just pure musical bliss, l have loved genesis since I was a teenager and now I am 55 going on 19!!! Lol
Doesn't get much better than this......and in Rome!
With Daryl Stuermer... "the fifth beatle" and Chester Thompson "the sixth beatle"... incredible how the guys play!!
WE COULD NOT DO BETTER. MYHICAL GENESIS. Seen in Roma, Manchester and of course at home, Parc des Princes, Paris. Seen 10 times.
Simply the best progressive rock band of all time along with Yes of Course xxxxxx
Pleased not use the adjective progressive, it is musically meaningless
Awesome band the Einestien of music
...May Your Grace shine about Your find's, dear Phillip. Best regards to You from old world Munich, I' m going through...
there are no words to describe this epic piece of music history.
Totally agree my friend blew me away then and still now Jan 24 as I listened again !
GOOSEBUMPS!!! INCREDIBLE!!! AMAZING!!! MARVELOUS!!! LOVE IT!!!
I was there from belgium!!! best performance after the mama tour medley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Phill and Genesis for all songs you guys created.
Ein Meisterwerk der komplexen "Artmusik"...GENIAL ! ! !
I was a guy still stuck in the version of 1983 or whatever BUT this one I like a lot especially the SOULfull singing by Phil, MASTERPIECE!
great review !! ua-cam.com/video/lQIiWUkgLfE/v-deo.html
saw Phil by himself 5 times, saw Genesis with Phil twice! LOVED IT ALL!
This is seventeen minutes of some of the best music you'll ever hear.
Always the best. My favorite band since I was in Secondary High Sdhool
I feel I'm 20 years old. Unfortunately, nobody plays music like that in present.
GREAT MUSICIANS !
I am 24, but my friends call me as an old man because all of my favorite songs are too old for them. Like Genesis, Super tramp, Bee Gees and other old songs ..
I think these song are more beatifull than the new songs in 2000-- :D
They are for sure
You are right ! They don't do excellent music as this nowadays ! Not enough creativity and talent
I feel you... Im 20 and the music i listen is too old for my friends.
Ok boomer, just kidding I'm 45 lol
The same for me. I am 14 years old
fantastici mitici principi della grande musica ...vi adoro
After all these years, this still brings a tear to my eyes.
Truth.....
And that proves it touches your soul.
Music don't get any better than this awesome 💯👍
I'd like to state that this is, to me, the best performance available on youtube. Of anything. Clasic, rock, pop, doesn't matter. This is the best performance ever.
Complete agree
It's definitely pretty special, isn't it?
💛💜💚 quanti ricordi brr brrrrrr brrrrrividi😂
No computer generated music but only talented musicians. Epic music for all times.
GREAT OLIVER!!!! STORIC MUSIC AND STORIC MUSICIANS !!!!
Like it should be. Today's "music" industry is garbage
@@ofekool225 Everything evolves one day. Now you can put an entire orchesta in a single computer. You can make music with a computer, without wasting 1000€ on instruments. Today, everyone who want's to make music, he can. And trust me, there are masterpieces made with a computer. So, please, don't call garbage music to the music made with a computer. There's no garbage music in this world! Just give it a try, maybe you can find a song you like :)
@@markelmencia4374 Well I didn't mean it was all garbage, but the computer-generated music is fake and empty. people should listen to real musicians who play real instruments..
@@ofekool225 you do know that the computer does not generate the music itself, right?
Like the dust that settles all around me
I must find a new home
The ways and holes that used to give me shelter
Are all as one to me now
But I, I would search everywhere
Just to hear your call
And walk upon stranger roads than this one
In a world I used to know before
I miss you more
Than the sun reflecting off my pillow
Bringing the warmth of new life
And the sounds that echoed all around me
I caught a glimpse of in the night
But now, now I've lost everything
I give to you my soul
The meaning of all that I believed before
Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one
And I would search everywhere
Just to hear your call
And walk upon stranger roads than this one
In a world I used to know before
For now I've lost everything
I give to you my soul
The meaning of all that I believed before
Escapes me in this world of none
I miss you more
Thank you, thank you phil~
Genesis an incredible band.
These guys have been the best modern day composer's in the world of music for nearly 50 years. So much talent that I don't think we will ever see thier like ever again, so much passion with a hard working ethic that for me makes them the best band ever.
Genesis at their absolute peak. Their most important concert in front of over 500,000 people in a magical place. And sadly, the farewell to a healthy Phil Collins. Phil, one of the greatest of all time.
Wow that's alot of fans. Qhat qas the farewell for?
their peak was with Gabriel..
I heard its about 1.5M people
@@ivanmassimo4769 ironic tho how Phil Collins perform Gabriel's songs better than him
I agree. Phil at his peak and what a peak it was!!
Saw this show, my 11th Genesis gig, going back to Trick '76. The "old medley," in its various incarnations over the decades, was always the highlight of any G show for me (all the better w/ the, uh, herbal enhancements, of course [I know, y' don't smoke (wink).]). This stuff is some of the most distinguished rock (if such a thing exists) ever presented, immho.
surely nobody would argue that this is the greatest band of all time, talent unknown in today's so called music.
YEAH, #GENESIS50TH2017
Agree with you!!!!
Paul Griffiths , totalmente de acuerdo contigo.
Paul Griffiths , totalmente de acuerdo contigo.
Fernando Rodríguez del Estal buongiorno
... grazie Peter 😊
half a million people at the free Genesis concert, I've been enjoying this music every day for 45 years.
Pure musical genius. It doesn't matter how many times I watch these guys, 70's 80's 90's 2000's they are always totally captivating and professional. Will we ever see their like again....I doubt it!!
"they'll never see the likes of us again!" (driving the last spike, genesis) :-)
Genesis is out of this world. And to realize that this is a live performance is mind boggling. Genius.
can't compare those days of great talent to today....
Collins & Thompson , they are both animals on the drums. They are getting medieval on their kits :-)
Very well written, and compelling, song, very intreaging.these guys are the Einstein's of music. Amazing.
wow. There are all sorts of time signatures going on in the cage medley. Some at the same time. Mind blowing.
Fantastici!!!
Phenomenal!
This song is fab ...even better i went to this concert ...mind blowing ..... took my friend ... they were amazed how brill.phil is ...hes just a legend ....always wil be 💙💙💙😎x
This medley is one of the greatest in rock history , rips through the emotions like The Knife
Bloody marvellous!
One of my best decisions in life to buy a ticket for this tour!
Once in a lifetime moment!
