i was just thinking about if wybie said about how theres a myth that the well is a portal, why did he let coraline throw the key into the alleged portal?????
(a theory about my question) what if wybie and his grandma are not human. they are somehow created by the cat and there is not actually two cats but one acting like two different people. also idk if this makes sense its really late at night
I didn't come up with this, but I think it's likely that the Beldam didn't fall down the well- she was drowned in it in the 17th century for being a "witch". Also, in the book, it describes her hair as "wet looking".
AriaKK 123 I actually think that too. Witches would usually be tied to chairs and drowned, or burned. Either way I do think that the Beldam was a witch and was caught, and was tied to a chair and drowned in that very well. Here’s another thing, at the beginning of the movie when she’s making Coraline’s doll, and pushes it out the window, we see stars. Remember when Wybie says that if you were to go down the well you’d see a sky full of stars? Obviously that’s mentioned in the video that the well could possibly be another entry point, whereas that’s were the Beldam died and became who she is.
I just realized something, when the beldam sits next to Coraline`s bed , she fades into a doll , nothing new there but notice how the chair also changes. In the real word Coraline`s chair has a daisy on it, in welsh the daisy is called `llygaid y dydd` which also translates to `eyes of the day`, the doll is the beldam`s eyes during the day. Nice way the film uses symbolism.
Daisies are also called the flower of death since they can’t be paired in bouquets with other flowers besides daisies because they’ll kill them. So how ironic that the beldam is sitting in her daisy chair.
Fun fact in the beginning, when she is making the mini coraline doll, the tools in her "sewing kit" aren't sewing tools they're 1800th century embalming tools (for deceased people being prepared for their own funeral) she has a bone saw in her kit and in the embalming process your clothes are cut down your back, then your mouth is filled with cotton or saw dust (which has been used since the mummies of ancient Egypt) to soak up the fluids from seeping out of you once you've passed then she sews the mouth shut which when you die your eye and mouth muscles relax therfore they need to be sewn shut this is horrifying because this is foreshadowing that she's hoping for coralines death and is basically preparing coraline for her own funeral but yeah I did a little research for this and I thought it was a good point and kinda creepy
@@nasus_elyobit definitely does happen in the west (the US at least, I’m from there) - the channel “WIRED” here on UA-cam did a series asking an American mortician questions, he talks a lot about embalming. I’ve been to plenty of funerals in the US and Mexico, they were all embalmed and it wasn’t seen as out of the ordinary.
The reason that Coraline and her family were able to move into the house, even though no kids were supposed to be allowed to move in, was because Wybie's grandmother knew about the Beldam. If you pay attention to the timeline, revealed by the dates of the taffy candy, you'll notice the beldam takes kids approximately once every 50 years. The grandma knew it was getting around that time, so in order to ensure that Wybie would not be the next victim, the grandmother let them move in. This can also explain why Wybie's grandmother had the Coraline doll the beldam made. I think the grandmother made a deal with the beldam.
wait omfg i just realized so the beldam take a kid every 50 years right? and yk how in It (2017) pennywise takes a kid every 27 years and feeds off the kids fear?? and he was a real life person before too and LITERALLY LIVES IN THE WELL?!!?! and the beldam idk if she eats the love or whatever of the kids but that would make sense bc there could be these monsters that can manipulate/alter things to make you feel a certain way (a certain feeling) and then feed off that?!?? AND REMEMBER the beldam AND pennywise BOTH are SPIDERLIKE looking figures/monsters so…
I used to watch it in 2009 I was 3 at the time oh boy when I watched it on my 12th birthday on oct I was weirded out how I wasn’t afraid of the spider web scene because if you watched that scene as a toddler You would be crying but not 3 year old me, man I’m dark 10 years ago
An important difference in the book and movie is that the movie takes place in the United States, while the book is in the United Kingdom. Native American folklore actually has a number of spider-woman fusion beings, so we can explain her origin in those stories, whereas in the British version, we can assume she’s a type of fairy. Fairies in old British culture were not happy tinkerbell types, they were often animalistic, aggressive, and cruel.
Might explain the appeal of the food. Beldam was always offering Coraline food in some way and you're not supposed to take food from the fae because you'll get stuck in their world, which was exactly what Beldam was trying to do to Coraline, trap her.
Ok but in the beginning wybee says that if coraline fell down the well that she could see stars in the middle of the day. And when she goes to the other universe there were always stars even if it were supposed to be day
The fact that the movie makers had such keen attention to every detail is unbelievable. And the fact that people are able to dig sooo deep into one movie is absolutely crazy yet amazing
I’m new with this Coraline back story theory and it’s outstandingly impressive, never watched a movie that is extremely deep and almost accurate theory until now.
@@feelsbadman5193 If you're talking about my comment, it's just doubt, lad. Why would anybody recommend anything when this person has "literally seen them all"? If they hadn't said that, I would recommend the shivering truth
Maybe the cat does help coralline because SHES a witch. I rewatched some scenes of the movie and You said that black cats are helpers of witches and Wybie ,at the beginning of the movie, calls coralline a water witch because she uses a dowsing rod to try and find the well and almost falls into it because she didn’t realize she actually succeeded. The lore of fairy rings is that if you step in one your likely to be taken and trapped in another world and she did for a little bit. The cat growled at her when she steps in the fairy circle almost yelling at her to get out or does it as a warning. Also if the other mother is after magic it explains why she’s so desperate to get her hands in coralline because she herself is a witch
I completely agree with is i have said a similar thing apart from the cat part, the first time I watched the film I knew coraline was a witch it makes sense, I'm a witch myself so I saw it straight away
Very plausible, but it could also be answered by the video's final theory, that the entity is some sort of beacon and "calls" the next desirable victim. That is what it theoretically did to the beldam in the first place. Unless I misunderstood something, of course.
ok i know this video is like four years old but here’s my theory on her finger tapping: this might make no sense or be a stretch but whatev the beldam only reveals her true form to coraline when she becomes angry. now why would she reveal that she’s a monster to the child she’s trying to trap? she obviously knows that her true form would scare coraline since she puts on the facade of her own mother. a child is not going to want to stay with a literal monster. which is why i believe that her revealing herself was an accident. it is often extremely difficult to contain yourself or think clearly when you are angry. keeping some kind of facade is also very difficult when feeling such a strong emotion. now finger tapping (like the beldam does) is more often than not, a sign of frustration or anger but one that usually happens when someone is trying to keep themselves together. i think the beldam has a short temper and patience but knows if she becomes angry, she’ll just reveal herself which is why she has that habit of tapping her fingers as a strategy and reminder to keep herself calm
It does make sense until you think about her tapping when shes already transformed, which makes you wonder if thats her final form, or of theres even more shes hiding.
In my theory, Beldam revealed herself because she needed to make Coraline escape from the other world. If you think about it, she feeds on child happiness/soul so why would she need Coraline to stay in the other world? Coraline would be happier in real life with her family so Beldam has her scared to make her return back there or maybe what we see at the end of the movie is just a simulation like the other world.
The Theorizer I just noticed that at the very start at the movie when coreline walks into her dad who's on the computer working if you look at his reflection you see the button eyes hinting at the other dimension
Are they buttons tho? I’ve just watched that part and to me they seem like the reflection of his eyes, they are very dark, but because the dad has massive eye bags. It isn’t fully visible tho
I noticed a fun little detail. Coraline said to her father, "You were wearing orange monkey shoes dad!" And the father laughed and was like, "Orange? My monkey shoes are blue." Orange is the opposite of blue. Really amazing detail right there
MidnightKitty _66 makes sense why they had it be slippers, probably to make Coraline feel safe and secure. The orange monkey slippers were a trap the whole time. Jk. Not really tho.
For the questions were the parents really taken i have this to say: the mist is pretty much everywhere in the first half of the movie in the books its heavily implied that it is it's own entity. It slowly approaches towards the hous until it starts to rain and coraline can not go outside and if you look at the window its windy outdoors but the mist is still there like it wanted her to stay inside and find the door. When the cat guides coraline to the edge of the other world the book described the emptiness of the place as a sort of mist. When coraline and her mother go out to buy the uniformes the mist surrounds the shop and is also there when her mother goes out to buy groceries and doesn't come back. My opinion is that the mist took the parents . In the books coraline takes place in England and in English folklore mist is used by faries to trap you in there world. I think the mist works a bite like the coraline doll and it is used by the other mother to make her see what the other mother wants to see. At the end of the movie the mist is totaly gone.
RV 3146 right ! cause the beldam can change things . like the jumping mice , she used rats to make them . and here she used a pumpkin to make a human form
Do you realize that wasn't the only weird thing?? Like the weirdest thing is why on hell was there water or something on the bed where coraline found the 3 ghosts??
idk about the book much, but in regards to the movie: I always thought that the reason Coraline and her family were allowed to move into the house is because she was almost 'destined' to. The beginning sequence has the Other Mother dismantling the doll made in the image of Mrs. Lovat's sister, turning her into Coraline. Later on, when Wybie gives this doll to Coraline, he says it's OLD - says that he found it in his grandma's chest, and its older/as old as she is... What if, after Mrs. Lovat's sister disappeared, Mrs. Lovat found the doll her sister had but it was different now: looking like a girl with blue hair, in a yellow rain coat. YEARS later, a family wants to move into the Pink Palace, and behold! A girl that looks exactly like the doll. Thus she makes an exception to her 'no kids' rule and allows Coraline's family to move in because she hopes it would help her either find or free her sister somehow... just a thought.
I don't see how Mrs. Lovat would think the Coraline version of the doll was the same as her sister's. Like they look very different, theyre even stuffed with different material, she'd probably think it was a different doll, not the same one. Maybe she thought her sister had another doll that she didn't know about and kept it as a momento. But I don't see how she would be able to tell it was the same one unless she knew it was changed. And for that to happen, she'd have to have seen it happen before or see Beldam changing it.
@@wolvie1618 c'mon now, they are very clearly the same style and look of doll LOLOL ♡ with the base doll staying the same and only details being changed. So they're identifyable as the same by look, style, size and proportion, but most importantly the 'signature' button eyes the movie emphasizes so much
For the whole "were they (the parents) really taken" thing. YES. The book says that they were gone for DAYS, they wouldn't neglect their daughter that badly. They're just stressed, not abusive.
I strongly believe that they weren’t. At first i thought so but me being older and re-reading the book? It really sounds like Russian Doll (Netflix tv show) in a sense of death but this is more specifically suicide so she thought she was back home but she wasnt cause was in another alternate reality where she did have any.
There's also the theory that Coraline never left the other world, and her escaping to find her parents missing was just another part of what the beldam made to break her. But yes, I agree that she escaped and her parents were trapped
I was just thinking the same thing yesterday: "if memory serves correct, they wernt missing for a few hours, it was actually days and Coraline ended up phoning the police".
just as a note, I think the triangle thing is most likely to be a Hagstone. Hagstones are generally recognized as very strong protective talismans, and there are myths that looking through them allow you to see the Fae realm
Not nesiteraly what if the stone did show the fea world . only those that r desented of the fea and or have the sight can see the glimses in to the fea world but the stone it self was created or bout from the other world I don't know how the sisters got it but anyway what if it's alowes the user a way to see thougher her web of lyes like it shows the use what's really the truth and not what the decever wanted her to belive or want she really want belive but show the truth and shows what's beneath all the tangled web of Lys.
yeah! normally the stone can show you the fae realm, but in the other world it shows you objects from the real world, because it was inverted, just like everything else!
It's not soul sand... It's sawdust. If you look closely at the tools, it's surgical tools, EMBALMING tools, why she's making the dolls is preparing Coraline for her own funeral. She even has a BONESAW in her "sewing" kit.
If you make it to the halfway point in the video then he goes over the fact that it's not soul sand like 3 times. Who knows how many more by the end of video
Got to think aswell she wants souls, not physical bodies of the children so there's a possibility that those tools had a purpose to either embalm the physical bodies (which wouldn't make sense to to persevere a body if she only feeds off the souls) or uses them for easier to discard the bodies although im 50/50 on that theory. But of course we have to think there's a probably high reason why she's in possession of embalming tools and are in a kit prepared for use. Yes she uses them for the dolls but it's something to think about. Also they are and 1800s style of embalming tools (mid to late 1800s if I'm correct) which could also tell us the time of her death because I do believe she is indeed dead physically and not spiritually as why else would she not live in the real world, can shape shift and lived for a long period of time and also why she needs to feed off the souls of children, so indeed she is dead physically not spiritually(some sort of evil spirit the D word I'll not say it but catch my drift). Also a theory that sticks out, why does she only feeds off the souls of children? Children are known in ancient history to be used for sacrifices as they have a 'purity' because of their innocence. It's also said that evil spirits (D word) are more likely to attack children because it hurts God as they are truly innocent beings.
I saw a theory one time that stated: Wybie’s grandmother knew the Belldam would soon prey on a new child. The grandmother did not want the child to be Wybie, so she intentionally let Coraline and her family move in to the Pink Palace in order for Coraline to fall prey rather than her grandson.
Theres also a theory that grandma made a deal with Coralines parents. It’s kinda dark but seeing how uninterested and annoyed They were at their young child talking to them, my ears are open.
I would believe this theory if one factor didn’t stand. Why did Wybie’s grandmother hide the doll? Wybie said he found the doll in his grandmothers trunk if the grandmother really wanted Coraline to be the next victim why hide the doll then?. Wybie even admitted he stole the doll so his grandmother had no idea it was gone my thinking is that his grandma in order to protect Coraline from the same fate as the other children when she found the doll hid it so the Belldam had no way of seeing what Coraline was doing effectively putting a wrench in the Belldam’s plans and saving Coraline from the same fate as her sister, but of course as fate would have it Wybie found the doll and being naive gave it to Coraline. I think that’s why she let the Jones into the pink palace thinking she got rid of the factor that would put Coraline in danger she thought it would be safe for her to be there.
Ok. Listen. One of the first scenes when Coraline is with the Other Mother, she goes into the garden with the Other Father. They see all the flowers, blah blah blah. But, theres ONE type of flower they take inside. They take inside *snapdragons* . Snapdragons are said to deceive people that you are gracious. Please look at this, I figured this out by myself.
I looked it up so you don't have to Snapdragons possess two meanings. This is similar to the mythical creature they resemble, revered in some cultures and feared in others: A snapdragon means grace and, due to its growth in rocky areas, strength. However, it can also symbolize deviousness.
When I watched the movie the first few times I was like 10 when I first watched it I never noticed it either, Sure I saw she wasn’t white but it didn’t seem like anything important so I never thought ab the grandmothers origin until he mentioned it😂
ok so i don't know if this was mentioned somewhere but i'm gonna write this anyway. when the other mother gave Coraline the "welcome home" cake we can see that o in "welcome" has one loop but the o in "home" has two loops. And when there are two loops in o it apparently means that the word is a lie. Which means that she is welcome but she is not home. sorry for my mistakes
I like how the tumbnail said "coraline 2 isn't needed" it's probably because this video is a movie all on it's own omg it just hit me THIS IS coraline 2
I saw somewhere that the grandma let Coraline move in because Wybie was the same age her sister was when she died. I bet that the grandma tried to investigate what happened to her twin. (Twins often tell each other almost everything. Maybe the sister tried telling the grandma about the other world but she didn’t believe her. After she disappeared, she realized the truth.) The grandma feared that Wybie would be next, so she let Coraline move in as a sacrifice to protect her grandson.
You could be onto something. The grandma was super protective of Wybie, but didn't seem to give a hoot about Coraline. She could have warned her at least, but she didn't bother.
Of course she doesn't care about Coraline until the end almost. She's pissed because Wybie stole the doll that looked like Coraline and knew she was in a massive amount of trouble. She knew if she got the doll back the Beldam can no longer spy on Coraline no more and have no more power. Remember before Coraline had the doll the door was brick? She used her soul to keep her world going, she needed the doll in the house because like a voodoo doll it holds magic and since the Coraline doll is full of Soul dust it allows her to cast magic within the house. Wybies grandma probably only knew how to fight the Beldam by taking the doll back. Probably because Wybies grandma lost her sister when she was a kid and she the doll disappear after the Beldam had her. So, his grandma probably thought no more doll = no more magic.
Why don't you try to contact the author of Coraline, Neil Gaiman. You could tweet your theories at him and make an interview like video if he'd want that. Might be worth a try
@@jaygeo8661 he did say he watched theories and said that they were mostly wrong, also yes the movie and book are probably different but they still take place in the same universe so Neil should have some deeper understanding of how it works since he created it
I wouldn't want to do that, if i were the theorizer and contacted the author, imagine how crushed the theorizer would be if the author just said "yeah none of that happened, its just a book and a movie, everything you thought about this book and all your theories, are wrong..." I would die if i put that much effort and thought into something just for it to be stomped on
@@PinkiethePandaim sure he was well aware that all his theories could possibly be debunked one day by authors/directors/ect when he started this channel also let's imagine Neil says "no the theories you worked on are false BUT the Beldame is X creature" or any other kind of info that he could base a new theory on. Sure, his original theory might be debunked this not just give him a lot of attention (and possible add revenue too) but also a lot of new room to theorize.
I feel like the Beldam’s obsession with spiders is an artistic choice inspired by the story of Arachne from Greek Mythology. She was a woman who was an amazing seamstress who challenged Athena who is the goddess of sewing to a challenge where they both create tapestries; but after seeing Arachne’s beautiful tapestry she became jealous of her and turned her into a spider, cursing her to be remembered as the insect that weaves it’s web. Thus the symbolism between the spider, and sewing the buttons onto people.
@@chio4753 The Greek gods and goddesses are often known for multiple things. Athena for instance was the goddess of war, handicrafts, and wisdom. So yes, she is, but they can represent multiple things at once.
I get why a live action version would be cool and absolutely terrifying, but honestly the animation style is what freaks me out the most about Coraline lol
What's even more interesting about your theory on the cat being an escaped victim, is that in the book, the ghost boy tells Coraline that the other mother is furious with her, that "She hasn't had anything escape for a long time" or something along those lines. Specifically though, he says "for a long time" meaning someone DID escape, in the past before the ghost children... perhaps the missing date, and the cat. Another bit of strong evidence that the beldam got the key, when you say the cat could only have used the portal entrance if the world and the other mother were still active, it's true. The book confirms this. Right before the climax after Coraline gets the third soul, and the world is collapsing, Coraline urges the cat to get out, that she'll see it again when she leaves, but the cat panics, saying "they're all gone. All the exits just went flat", and that's when she takes the cat inside with her. meaning if the world is in jeopardy, every single portal in and out collapses, aside from the door which is in the house. If they remain open... the world is stable. Another interesting thing about your theory that the rooms only "render", so to speak, as needed, is that in the book, Coraline has that exact suspicion going into her room to search for the ghost souls, thinking that it would just be empty space until the exact moment she enters
I feel like when the parents couldn't find coraline they tried the little door, seeing as their daughter had been so preoccupied with it, and followed her into the other world where the Beldam trapped them in the snow globe
I think the cat and the bedlam were married and had a son (blue boy) and the cat is an immortal shapeshifter , she and her son fell into the other world and she ate him to survive. The cat finds a new wife and has the twins, the beldam then lures one of the children and the cats new wife dies of grief. The cats human form expires and he is forced to live in his cat form forever. He has on and off speaking abilities because it would take him two lifetimes to fluently speak without trouble.
i believe wybie's grandmother let coraline's family move in for one of a few reasons. 1. she knew the beldam was getting hungrier and more desperate and in a attempt to make sure wybie was safe, she let another child move in. kind of like a sacrifice. 2. she knew the beldam was getting stronger to capture her next victim and something told her that coraline would be the one to open the door and finally succeed in getting rid of the beldam and freeing her sister. 3. she needed money and couldn't keep denying people who wanted to move in lol *please help me get **-the theorizer-** to see this* aha
I was thinking the same thing about a sacrifice of some sort, bc with wybie being the closest kid to the pink pails, the other mother would just create a portal in by his house, luring him in. Making that the second person that she has took from her
What if the grandma was starting to doubt her mind? A lot of people start questioning their trauma over time if it’s not verifiable. She though still could not let her grand child go, out of a gut fear.
Silly Goose And her tone is quiet fearful. You’d think she’d be angry and yell “I’ll get you for this!” but she doesn’t. It’s like she’s scared that something will kill her for not successfully claiming another child’s soul.
Alyssa Alvarez in the book it does say Caroline find a huge dead spider in the bathtub and since the other mother is a representation of a spider that could be her fate but she could also be laying eggs
SPIDERs are the weavers of worlds. In some mythologies, they are the ancient first mothers creating all levels and all things in all worlds. The strings in the webs connect everything terrestrial and divine. So in this case it makes perfect sense that the Other Mother is a spider. Also, if you consider spider-webs as traps for bugs, then the Other Mother wants to trap children in her web of lies and web of walls.
But the Beldam didn't create anything, she just alters things and changes them to her liking. The properties of the other dimension where she lives in is her source of magic. The dimension allows her to bend things to her will and lets her create. If she had never ended up in the other dimension, she would be a normal human.
In the store scene, people have pointed out that in the background, there is a woman outside the shop that mysteriously watches Coraline and her mom. It could be the Beldam’s spirit/magical shape shifting ability. And maybe the doll was upstairs but the Beldam can hear through the doll as well, so she heard Coraline and her mom’s conversation from downstairs.
You guys are completely missing the fact that the well DOESN’T EXIST in the other world. This was the whole point of the scene when Coraline and the Cat walk away from the other pink palace and Coraline asks, “shouldn’t the old well be here?” The cat responds, “Nothing out here.” I don’t understand how all of you theorists can overlook this same fact.
Just because the entrance to the portal is the well in the real world doesn’t necessarily mean the well has to be in the other world... due to the fact that the other mother made the world? I’m not too sure. You made a very good point
YES. Also, the ghost children and cat seem to be in agreement with how she disposes the hand and key. I don't understand why everyone says it "irresponsible" I don't believe the well and the portal are related. If anything it's probably the other mother's greatest foe because it's full of water (spiders can't swim) and has slippery walls therefore preventing the hand from ever getting out.
Bunnny 131 for me i take that scene as because coraline wasn’t where she was suppose to be (where the other mother could make the room) it just looped back after a short time bc she doesn’t have all the magic. the rats tried to warn her b if i remeber correctly the cat kills it....not vernan. So why would the other world (the other cat) he’ll coraline, is this just a bigger game to suck the belldame dry?
Also, adding to the above replies (although you made some good points), the well being a portal to the real world is classed as a threat to the Other Mother, a way for Coraline to get back to the real world, out of arms reach of the Beldam. She would’ve have created the portal there, only the one in the house, since she is always in it.
I have a theory, in the book the other mother sweared in her right and to keep her promise (to let everyone go if she found her parents and the lost souls) In the film when coraline ‘escapes’ the beldams hand got ‘chopped’ off. Meaning she didn’t keep her promise and she didn’t let everyone go
The dragonfly bit also matches the spider symbolism of the beldam. Dragonflies kill spiders, and are the apex predator of insects Edit: Dragonflies are the most accurate hunters in the entire animal kingdom, and spiders have some of the best traps. Makes sense for the characters
The scariest one I’ve seen is the cake, it says welcome høme, with the cross in the o in home means the person who wrote it is lying so coraline is welcome but not home
True but didn’t he ask coraline why she threw him at the beldam and got a bit mad at her maybe he was possessed by the beldam and he was there just to spy on coraline for the beldam but he didn’t talk because the sand might fall out near the beldam
Prehaps vermin does this to convince Coraline he is on her side (not talking in front of the beldam even tho she knows he can talk to manipulate Coraline and gain her trust)
“The triangle rock” is called an adder stone. Rocks that had naturally formed holes in the middle were thought to contain magic in Celtic lore. Coraline’s adder stone is also made of a rock called malachite thats magical properties are protection, and symbolizing the afterlife and death. All of that makes sense to its role in the story.
@@wolframshibuya2693Ooo- That would add more credibility to what someone else said here- That in the book the Beldam's hair was described as 'wet.' And it was common practice to drown witches in wells back then. If the Beldam was a witch, it might explain a lot of the weord stuff she supposedly did before her death like pushing her mother back in the grave repeatedly. There's a lot of nods to faries too, as AbitFrank has pointed out in her videos. The fairy ring Coraline steps in around the well in the beginning, as well as fairy fog. The thick mist the covers everything outside of the house until Coraline manages to 'win.' Mind you these faries are specifically based off Celtic folklore so I'd look more in to that if youre interested.
Something i found so funny to watch is when everytime bobisnky talks to coraline she tries to keep her head far from bobisnky because he has bad breath 💀
OMG I HAD TO SHARE THIS, I’m currently watching coralline again after watching this video and we all know that the other father was made from a pumpkin. The second time coraline visits the other mother, while cooking she says “Would you go fetch your father? I bet he is hungry as a pumpkin by now?” I NEVER REALIZED IT UNTIL NOW
Omg I had to Share this, I'm currently watching coralline again after watching this video and we all know that other father was made from a pumpkin.the second time caraline visit the other mother, cooking she say would you go fetch your father is a pumpkin by now? Would never realize until now
When Coraline escapes through the tunnel when the beldam is pounding on the door, you can see various articles of clothing throughout the tunnel. This includes: Gramma’s sister’s shoe and the pioneer girl’s straw hat. The most intriguing one though, is a white scarf-like piece of clothing with two white stripes and a black bow. The exact same one that the boring blue boy wears in the picture
Wait could you describe to me where it is ? I looked up a picture where the other wybie and corali e look through the tunnel but the most resembling thing I could find was a shirt that looks like it's the same sailor style as the blue boy's except that it is mainly white with a little blue and the blue boy's is mainly blue. It does look like it stems from the same period maybe it did belong to him or maybe even his brother The item was near the entrance where coraljne and the other wybie are sitting, on wybie's side. Did you refer to that
I just realized. "If you fell to the bottom and looked up, you'd see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day." It's always night in the Otherworld, more evidence that the well is a portal.
Kawaii Neko Of Death this reminds me of the painting of the real house in the fake house. it’s a day time picture even though it’s always night there. could that symbolize seeing stars in the middle of the day?
This is something that can happen in our reality actually. Not just in Coraline. If you go down a very deep well, you will see the stars even in daylight.
Random Theory: The town knew the Beldam was a witch and threw her down the well as a means to kill her. Edit: After further watching, I was thinking maybe the doll isn’t the Beldam’s way of looking through but just a way to keep the connection open between the worlds. Another Edit: I have a theory Wybie actually spoke to the cat. We seen the cat start talking as soon as it entered the door. We also seen it can enter the world through portals around the area so I’m thinking whenever it needed to relay important information, it would use one nearby Wybie to tell him something.
@@gracieewart9282 The same exact thing happened in Paranorman. I was just watching it and thought to myself “huh- what if the same thing happened to The Beldam?”
I don't think so only because she was wasn't a witch until she fell down the well and gave her soul only then did she become a witch and the well was at her property so why would they do that
@@Coszmokitty maybe bc of the witch trials? She was a person of power and maybe she was accused as a way to gain power or seek revenge. Lots of women died to the witch trials even if they didn't practice magic or witchcraft
Seems like The Theorizer and Coraline's creators have the same kind of relationship as Matpat and FNAF. The Theroist makes the theories and the dev/director makes it canon.
I believe the beldam could have been a seamstress, possibly of someone who was powerful, and that's how she could afford the house or possibly she was the seamstress of the house owner. That could explain the buttons and how she knows how to sew very well. Her clothes are also very unique while in her spider form
I just wanted to point out that I’ve watched this movie A TON and I’ve noticed a hint to the other mothers intentions. You see it when coraline is in the jumping mouse circus. First the mice show her name, then they place the main mouse in the middle, then they make a star, and finally, a target. The first one is kinda like saying that the future of the world revolves around her, the second is saying she’s needed, and the third is saying that she is there target!!! I hope you see this Edit: thanks for the likes guys!
What if the shapes mean something else? So the first shape ,the name coraline, is obviously meaning coraline. Since they put the main mouse in the middle, it could mean the main. The star means she is the favourite. The target means the favourite target. So all together the mouse dance means 'Coraline, the favourite, is the main target.'
Thanks for the ideas that all makes sense. I noticed the shapes when I watched it and the idea came to me. I think all of the shapes the mice did are just another thing to add to the pile of hints the movie gives that say coraline is in danger.
The theory that the boy in the painting is her child is super intriguing, on coraline’s last trip through the tunnel you can see a bunch of items of clothing (likely from the children she’s taken) There’s a pair of shoes which looks very similar to the shoes the grandmas sister wore, and also clothing that looks super similar to the outfit the little boy in the painting wears. But if that is the case, why isn’t he also with the other children’s trapped souls?? Maybe it’s because he wasn’t a child she trapped, but her own.
If you watch the rest of the video he changes his theory on that. She has no child, the sad boy is her first successful victim. His ghost and eyes are not there because he was completely consumed by the beldam and vermin (the demon that sometimes pisses the cat, when it talks)
@chipsdubbo5.56 Kind of doesn't make sense to me because I think Beldam is quite utilitarian and would definitely use up everything of the other children as well.
I believe there’s another cat, an evil cat, pretending to be the black cat. The fake one follows Coraline around and thats why the other mother knew everything about her even without the doll around her. Maybe the other mother is controlled, as this video says, maybe controlled by the fake cat? That might also explain why in the title/picture instead of the protagonist or antagonist being there, the cat is there. Well....maybe the antagonist IS there and the antagonist actually is the cat. Honestly I’m probably repeating what he said but I kinda zoned out so I didn’t hear it. Anyway it’s a nice to know how much effort and hints the creators dropped whilst creating the movie.
yeah i really wanted to believe there’s only one cat. maybe when he was in the main world he was acting nice? and in the other world he would switch on and off being nice and then helping the beldam? idk if this makes sense lol also it seems like it would be likely bc hes the L in the title and at the end of the movie he goes into that portal so maybe he is just 1 cat that helps the beldam and acts nice to gain the trust of the kids
i’ve seen a lot of others theories on the doll, and there’s one that’s really fascinating. basically it says that the doll of coraline was made years in advance, and the grandmother was waiting for the person who looked exactly like it. my thought however, is what if the beldam made a doll similar to herself as a specific target? someone who could defeat (kill) her, and take on the duties of the beldam in that world? so she makes a doll the resembles her and waits until the right person comes along. she’s captured all these children and been there for so long because she was simply waiting for the next “beldam” to show up. they aren’t related per say, they just look alike and have a similar personality, which also could connect to how the beldam had a bit of power over coraline. she knew what coraline’s next move may be, because she knows how coraline’s mind works. it could’ve all been a trap to release the beldam from that world, and to bring the next one into play.
The worn out garden in the end has the beldams face because it symbolises her death. But what if the garden in the pocket world has corolines face not only because the other father wanted to impress her but because her being a Beldam was already pre meditated by the other world. Idk if this makes sense but I find it interesting
Coraline is the scariest movie/book ever and you can't change my mind. The fact that it's a children's book BAFFLES me as it both fascinated and horrified me as a child.
Omg me too i first time watched it when i was maybe 6 or 7 and then the other night i had a nightmare of coraline but i still love that movie and want to coraline 2 to happend lol
@@almarose7505 You're clearly not old enough to understand why it's terrifying, come back again in another decade when you see can things from a different perspective
paintings can also have meaning from both sides. They may show how the other world is different from reality yet also hints at something very important. I see the painting as an illustration of how the beldam can make children happy in the other world, yet NEVER achieve it in real life. The ghost children said they want more, similar to how the boy had more ice cream; how he is leaning over to take a lick yet losing what he loved and left with less than what he had.
I felt the same way until he mentioned that, with the spider web in the end fight, the painting was there. Everything in stop motion is hand crafted, so it has to have some significance or something
From the lighting, the soul sand looked a lot lighter than ashes would. I haven't seen ashes myself, but my assumption is that they are dark. Can ashes be lighter?
In the scene where Coraline's escaping and running away from the Beldam, when the door's getting closer, you can see a child's dead body in the bottom right.
@@FridaJo_ I think there was a theory that the children with there souls taken bodies were the father and the two performer women. Since there was 1 boy and 2 girls it would make sense.
_On your questioning the other mothers ability to tell the future:_ The Beldam is psychic in much the same way a spider is: The spider knows that if he builds his web, the fly will eventually become trapped in it.
Can’t spiders feel and understand the vibrations in their web? Might be crazy but I swore I read that they could feel if something landed on the web and know where it was. So maybe she can’t predict the future but she understands the world as if it’s all part of her web
Bwhahhaha!! 😂🤣 My sentiments exactly!!!! And I'm only about three-quarters thru it!! It makes me question this young man's sanity for making it... But I'm watching it! I do hope The Theorizer has some other hobbies, tho..... 🤨🤔
I think the reason for Coraline being an exception to this rule is anti age discrimination laws. So she would be forced to rent it to the Joneses. Not because she risked Coraline life over Wybie's. (CZsworld's theory).
One things I am surprise about is the fact that no one has ever mentioned that “The Blue Boy” is an actual painting that exists and was created by Thomas Gainsborough.
I feel like the painting wasnt owned by coraline and her parents to begin with like he said tho. When she was sent to check the house she said "one blue boy" as If she never saw it before. I'm almost sure that it has something to do with one of the children or the lore
@Mathilde Lambert that is actually a great theory but theres no evidence to back it up and also the cat is supposedly African American and was an ancestor of wybies granny
Can't remember the part for it, but when Coraline and her mom r in the store there's a particularly weird looking woman always watching Coraline in the store. When the real mom says maybe she should get u all your clothes the weird lady shows interest. That same time Coraline goes through the door the beldam is NOT THERE?!?! Maybe that is when she found a way to "take the parents". The beldam is always in the kitchen making food but all of a sudden she is no longer there and gone for a while. Just a cool thing to think about. And another point would be why does she have a picture of that store in the other world? She maybe has control over other things in the real world and had that creepy woman spying for her
this ain't no theory, but, while watching the movie, i noticed that some of the colors for the buttons (when the beldam was naming off colors later in the film when she made her offer) were orange, pink and green, kind of like the same color of the milkshakes near the beginning in the other world.
Idk if i should say this, but here we go- When Coraline first meets her other parents, they give her a cake. It says " Welcome Home!" in cursive. The 'O' in 'home' has two loops and in graphology, putting two loops in a 'O' means that someone is lying. So basically, she is welcome, but she is not home. Oh Wow- Almost 300 likes o-o UM 1K LIKES?- MISS PPLS-
It's not that Coraline never escaped, the thing is that the "real" world and the "other" world are the same place, the beldam wants her soul so she is trying to drag her into hell, the disappearance of her parents is maybe a metaphorical way of saying that Coraline was fighting something alone to get her parents back something like an addiction
The amount of layers and complexity in the lore alone around this movie are worthy of respect the more you dig the more you find. Add the fact everything was handmade and the beautiful and quirky athmosphere it managed to create with it and the weird music and you could say this movie is a true work of art with an universe that’s stable enough to sustain multiple movies even my adult ass would watch. I sincerely hope there will ever be more of it but even if not this will be one ill remember for sure!

AriaKK 123 - I like that!

Nice way the film uses symbolism.
ooo thats really cool!
Dayum 😳
Daisies are also called the flower of death since they can’t be paired in bouquets with other flowers besides daisies because they’ll kill them. So how ironic that the beldam is sitting in her daisy chair.

Also, in that chair, before she fades, her shadow againts the wall is the shape of the beldam, though she looked like mel at this stage!

1800th century is crazy

The reason that Coraline and her family were able to move into the house, even though no kids were supposed to be allowed to move in, was because Wybie's grandmother knew about the Beldam. If you pay attention to the timeline, revealed by the dates of the taffy candy, you'll notice the beldam takes kids approximately once every 50 years. The grandma knew it was getting around that time, so in order to ensure that Wybie would not be the next victim, the grandmother let them move in. This can also explain why Wybie's grandmother had the Coraline doll the beldam made. I think the grandmother made a deal with the beldam.
He says this pretty much word by word in the video
Honesty i thought she was controled by the beldom
Wait because this makes a lot of senseee 👀

A innocent pure witch soul nice theory peyton
Very plausible, but it could also be answered by the video's final theory, that the entity is some sort of beacon and "calls" the next desirable victim. That is what it theoretically did to the beldam in the first place. Unless I misunderstood something, of course.

ok i know this video is like four years old but here’s my theory on her finger tapping:
this might make no sense or be a stretch but whatev
the beldam only reveals her true form to coraline when she becomes angry. now why would she reveal that she’s a monster to the child she’s trying to trap? she obviously knows that her true form would scare coraline since she puts on the facade of her own mother. a child is not going to want to stay with a literal monster.
which is why i believe that her revealing herself was an accident. it is often extremely difficult to contain yourself or think clearly when you are angry. keeping some kind of facade is also very difficult when feeling such a strong emotion. now finger tapping (like the beldam does) is more often than not, a sign of frustration or anger but one that usually happens when someone is trying to keep themselves together. i think the beldam has a short temper and patience but knows if she becomes angry, she’ll just reveal herself which is why she has that habit of tapping her fingers as a strategy and reminder to keep herself calm
It does make sense until you think about her tapping when shes already transformed, which makes you wonder if thats her final form, or of theres even more shes hiding.
That would make a lot of sense
@@carnivorouswatermelonthere definitely has to be more she’s hiding. I can’t imagine how scary she actually is when she’s not impersonating people
In my theory, Beldam revealed herself because she needed to make Coraline escape from the other world.
If you think about it, she feeds on child happiness/soul so why would she need Coraline to stay in the other world?
Coraline would be happier in real life with her family so Beldam has her scared to make her return back there or maybe what we see at the end of the movie is just a simulation like the other world.

MidnightKitty _66 makes sense why they had it be slippers, probably to make Coraline feel safe and secure. The orange monkey slippers were a trap the whole time. Jk. Not really tho.
Not only That but the other dad was based on a pumpkin, so it makes sense thematically that they’d be orange
At the end of the movie the mist is totaly gone.

idk about the book much, but in regards to the movie: I always thought that the reason Coraline and her family were allowed to move into the house is because she was almost 'destined' to. Thus she makes an exception to her 'no kids' rule and allows Coraline's family to move in because she hopes it would help her either find or free her sister somehow... just a thought.
thats actually making so much sense !😭

Though if they were using Coraline as a way to get their sister back why would they warn her that she was in danger?
I don't see how Mrs. Lovat would think the Coraline version of the doll was the same as her sister's. Like they look very different, theyre even stuffed with different material, she'd probably think it was a different doll, not the same one. Maybe she thought her sister had another doll that she didn't know about and kept it as a momento. But I don't see how she would be able to tell it was the same one unless she knew it was changed. And for that to happen, she'd have to have seen it happen before or see Beldam changing it.

He said it at 34:58
Sit down and watch smarty 🤓
Also remember that in the first videos, he said the Beldam altered her own body and replaced parts of herself. Hence the bonesaw.
If they do make a sequel, they should call it “The Belldamm”. It should be about the belldamms origin story. Love your theory btw.
Barbara B like a prequel? That would be so good
I would love to see how it was before Coraline came to move there
Barbara B yes 👌
YESS
NOOO thank god they won't do any other movies 😂
I saw a theory one time that stated: Wybie’s grandmother knew the Belldam would soon prey on a new child. The grandmother did not want the child to be Wybie, so she intentionally let Coraline and her family move in to the Pink Palace in order for Coraline to fall prey rather than her grandson.
Which is why she didn’t want wybie near CORALINE
@@Sugar_Bliss thats nice

Ok.
I looked it up so you don't have to
Snapdragons possess two meanings. This is similar to the mythical creature they resemble, revered in some cultures and feared in others:
A snapdragon means grace and, due to its growth in rocky areas, strength.
However, it can also symbolize deviousness.

Good point man coralline2 the story
Answer me this how is this coraline 2
Has coralline in it and it tells the story well what we can get for now it’s like it’s own movie!
No it isn’t...
Underrated
@@provenwrong5835makes me wonder what would happen if you burn the doll or shredd it or something

Isn't athena the goddess of war if I'm not wrong ?

3. she needed money and couldn't keep denying people who wanted to move in lol
*please help me get **-the theorizer-** to see this* aha
I was thinking the same thing about a sacrifice of some sort, bc with wybie being the closest kid to the pink pails, the other mother would just create a portal in by his house, luring him in. Making that the second person that she has took from her
What if the grandma was starting to doubt her mind? A lot of people start questioning their trauma over time if it’s not verifiable. She though still could not let her grand child go, out of a gut fear.

Thanks so much for replying I was so hopping that in was not just graping at straws.!!!
But the Beldam didn't create anything, she just alters things and changes them to her liking. The properties of the other dimension where she lives in is her source of magic. The dimension allows her to bend things to her will and lets her create. If she had never ended up in the other dimension, she would be a normal human.
@@ruiira but if Beldam was a witch before she stay trapped inside the other world?
Thank you 👐🏽👏🏽👐🏽👏🏽👐🏽👏🏽
Just because the entrance to the portal is the well in the real world doesn’t necessarily mean the well has to be in the other world... due to the fact that the other mother made the world? I’m not too sure. You made a very good point
YES. Also, the ghost children and cat seem to be in agreement with how she disposes the hand and key. I don't understand why everyone says it "irresponsible" I don't believe the well and the portal are related. If anything it's probably the other mother's greatest foe because it's full of water (spiders can't swim) and has slippery walls therefore preventing the hand from ever getting out.
Bunnny 131 for me
i take that scene as because coraline wasn’t where she was suppose to be (where the other mother could make the room) it just looped back after a short time bc she doesn’t have all the magic.
the rats tried to warn her b if i remeber correctly the cat kills it....not vernan.

I just wanted to point out that I’ve watched this movie A TON and I’ve noticed a hint to the other mothers intentions. You see it when coraline is in the jumping mouse circus. First the mice show her name, then they place the main mouse in the middle, then they make a star, and finally, a target. What if the shapes mean something else? So the first shape ,the name coraline, is obviously meaning coraline. Since they put the main mouse in the middle, it could mean the main. The theory that the boy in the painting is her child is super intriguing, on coraline’s last trip through the tunnel you can see a bunch of items of clothing (likely from the children she’s taken)
There’s a pair of shoes which looks very similar to the shoes the grandmas sister wore, and also clothing that looks super similar to the outfit the little boy in the painting wears.
Or she simply used all the life force of the child until he disappeared.

I believe there’s another cat, an evil cat, pretending to be the black cat. The fake one follows Coraline around and thats why the other mother knew everything about her even without the doll around her. Maybe the other mother is controlled, as this video says, maybe controlled by the fake cat? Honestly I’m probably repeating what he said but I kinda zoned out so I didn’t hear it. Anyway it’s a nice to know how much effort and hints the creators dropped whilst creating the movie.
Yeah but that’s all part of his plan he needs to lie and pretend to be the other cat to gain trust from coraline just like the cat from the real world

i’ve seen a lot of others theories on the doll, and there’s one that’s really fascinating. basically it says that the doll of coraline was made years in advance, and the grandmother was waiting for the person who looked exactly like it. my thought however, is what if the beldam made a doll similar to herself as a specific target? someone who could defeat (kill) her, and take on the duties of the beldam in that world? so she makes a doll the resembles her and waits until the right person comes along. she’s captured all these children and been there for so long because she was simply waiting for the next “beldam” to show up. they aren’t related per say, they just look alike and have a similar personality, which also could connect to how the beldam had a bit of power over coraline. she knew what coraline’s next move may be, because she knows how coraline’s mind works. it could’ve all been a trap to release the beldam from that world, and to bring the next one into play.
Uuuuuuuahhhhhh
but if the beldam actually gets released she would instantly die 🧐
@@francinelucas7107 Honestly, maybe she wanted that because she puts on a happy facade or she could just inhabit Coraline's body after she dies.
The worn out garden in the end has the beldams face because it symbolises her death. But what if the garden in the pocket world has corolines face not only because the other father wanted to impress her but because her being a Beldam was already pre meditated by the other world. Idk if this makes sense but I find it interesting
But that wouldn't explain exactly why the beldam was freaking out so much near the end as coraline escapes (unless it does and I'm just stupid)
Try reading Tom's Midnight Garden
omg SAME!
how old are you my guy? Have you ever watched a horror movie?
@@almarose7505 You're clearly not old enough to understand why it's terrifying, come back again in another decade when you see can things from a different perspective
I always thought the purpose of the blue boy painting was as the first indication that the "other" world was "better."
Oh yeah
Well yeah it is but people want to know who it's a painting of
paintings can also have meaning from both sides.
It’s just a theory
Could the “soul sand” possibly be ashes of those who she has taken advantage of? We never see or hear of the bodies in the book/movie.
Absolutely, also since satanists/witches believe in cremation...burials are of christian belief...
@@SparkShark101 wait really? Can you tell if it's one of the children who's souls got taken?
@@FridaJo_ I think there was a theory that the children with there souls taken bodies were the father and the two performer women. Since there was 1 boy and 2 girls it would make sense.
Solving Coraline for The Theorizer is like solving FNAF for Matpat.
Actually, though, this is very creepy and intriguing.
_On your questioning the other mothers ability to tell the future:_
The Beldam is psychic in much the same way a spider is:
The spider knows that if he builds his web, the fly will eventually become trapped in it.
Can’t spiders feel and understand the vibrations in their web? Might be crazy but I swore I read that they could feel if something landed on the web and know where it was. So maybe she can’t predict the future but she understands the world as if it’s all part of her web
Emily Geier yes, they can.
Emily Geier that’s what happened in the movie, coraline accodentally made a vibration and the Beldam knew where she was
am i about to watch a 2 hour video about the movie that traumatized me as a child? yes, yes i am.
Good luck!
me too. me too.
This shit scared and gave me nightmares as a kid
Oh oh of course we all are
Same here but this is my second time watching this and now I'm so obsessed with this movie
The fact that I laid in bed and watched this video 2 hours straight about Coraline is beyond me

Watched Coraline yesterday. Only now discovered that Mel was wearing a neck brace. I seriously thought it was a thick turtleneck
THAT WASNT A TURTLE NECK?!?!?! :0
@@ArtisticAlly123 no, the other mother has a turtleneck the real mother had a neck brace because of the car accident she was in
yeah because they talk about the accident which most likely was a car accident

It.. it wasn't a turtleneck? Oh man..
I'm almost sure that it has something to do with one of the children or the lore
true, expect it isn't the same painting as the one Coraline sees
@Mathilde Lambert that is actually a great theory but theres no evidence to back it up and also the cat is supposedly African American and was an ancestor of wybies granny
@Mathilde Lambert it was painted in the year 1770
@DeAsia Shivers so it was painted before the beldam because she lived there mid 1800s right?
Can't remember the part for it, but when Coraline and her mom r in the store there's a particularly weird looking woman always watching Coraline in the store. When the real mom says maybe she should get u all your clothes the weird lady shows interest. That same time Coraline goes through the door the beldam is NOT THERE?!?! Maybe that is when she found a way to "take the parents". The beldam is always in the kitchen making food but all of a sudden she is no longer there and gone for a while. Just a cool thing to think about. And another point would be why does she have a picture of that store in the other world? She maybe has control over other things in the real world and had that creepy woman spying for her
Wait a minute maybe she hangs the pictures of all these places (house, town, store) in the other world bc this is how she controls them!!
Only the Theorizer would make a theory video about a movie that's longer than the actual movie itself.
Doctor “you have 2 hours to live”
Me *watches the full 2 hour Coraline theory video till my last breath*
And sadly miss the ending by 3 minutes
or skip the intro
Instead of watching the full 2 hour Coraline theory video till my last breath I'd watch the Coraline the actual Coraline movie 💿🖥❤️

this ain't no theory, but, while watching the movie, i noticed that some of the colors for the buttons (when the beldam was naming off colors later in the film when she made her offer) were orange, pink and green, kind of like the same color of the milkshakes near the beginning in the other world.
Idk if i should say this, but here we go-
When Coraline first meets her other parents, they give her a cake. It says " Welcome Home!" in cursive. The 'O' in 'home' has two loops and in graphology, putting two loops in a 'O' means that someone is lying. So basically, she is welcome, but she is not home.

This is a stop motion movie everything is specifically done on purpose and he’s picking it up
It's not that Coraline never escaped, the thing is that the "real" world and the "other" world are the same place, the beldam wants her soul so she is trying to drag her into hell, the disappearance of her parents is maybe a metaphorical way of saying that Coraline was fighting something alone to get her parents back something like an addiction
Okay good theory’s but the Beldam said ⏳

The amount of layers and complexity in the lore alone around this movie are worthy of respect the more you dig the more you find. Add the fact everything was handmade and the beautiful and quirky athmosphere it managed to create with it and the weird music and you could say this movie is a true work of art with an universe that’s stable enough to sustain multiple movies even my adult ass would watch. I sincerely hope there will ever be more of it but even if not this will be one ill remember for sure!
