Alessio Deledda is a representation on what would we look like of any of us mere fans could buy our way into racing. Personally, if I was him I'll settle for sports cars, like GT3 or something, because it's alot more fun personally to be driving against others in my level than driving for prestigious championships but being last all the time.
To be blunt if you wanna "live the dream" of being an auto racer and you have the money to do it. Just be a gentleman driver in endurance racing instead of holding up someone who deserves a spot in the formula 1 ladder more.
You probably could, the lower Formula classes like national F4 series are often not as competitive as high level karting championships since quite a few drivers buy themselves into those junior teams
I have sympathy up until Formula 2. That series should be reserved for drivers who earn a spot. Shouldn't be able to buy into there in my opinion. Especially since he crashes into people and effects the race of drivers whose results matter. If he wants to race he can just go to Boss GP. That is where all the other rich dudes who want to drive go. He might even win there considering it's 50 year olds. The feeder series should be reserved for drivers who were competitive in the lower formula.
My favourite Deledda moment is when he fell from 4th to 3rd to last in like 4 laps in one of the F2 races at Monza this year 😂 Shows how shocking he is all round. And no, he wasn’t P3 on merit Edit : I wrote this before seeing Josh mention it
Yup I thought he was gonna show the multiple turn 1 overtakes on him. I actually felt kinda bad for him, but that's what happens when you are that far off the pace
Can you make a video about Cem Bolukbasi? He looks to be an interesting case considering he is the only driver to comeback from e-sport and looked promising in other racing series he did. Wishing all the best for you, love the way you create these videos.
He did some karting at young age with his brother. Most of the top esport drivers comes from karting at young age. They just don't have money to progress further.
It's strange. I kinda respect him. He made money is doing what he's always wanted to do. Sure he isn't going to be anyone special but he knows he never will be, he's just doing what he's always wanted to do. Maybe he could have been someone
According to the stats sheet Deledda and Guilherme Samaia are the only two drivers that did the full season of F2 last year who never scored any points
I genuinely wonder who these kinds of drivers are comparable to, I mean, could Shane Van Gisbergen do a better job? Probably, but where is the line? Could a TCR driver do better? What about Jimmy Broadbent? Anyway, while his time in F2 was less meme-able than Lord Rags, I feel like Mahaveer at least had something… at some point… like, when he actually scored a point in Italy, never mind the grid was short of 3 cars with very good drivers. Deledda was just slow, and that’s kinda the whole story. On a side note, I think Codemasters had some fun with his AI in the F1 game. Round 1 of the championship and Deledda qualifies 2nd and wins the Feature Race…
I wonder too, sim racing is very different to real racing of course, but I think given the time to test and get familiar with a car to drive it on the limit, a guy like Jimmy Broadbent could have the potential to be at a decent level in real racing as well, possibly better than someone like Raghunathan or Deledda, even though they have more experience
SN13K3R Well, look at Cem Bolukbasi, his start to F2 hasn’t been great, and he missed the Imola round after a testing crash, but he is a lot closer to the pack than Deledda ever was.
@@SN13K3R tbf Jimmy is already racing irl with praga, I haven't really seen how that has been going and don't really know how high the level of that field is, but he got a race win in the series a couple of weeks/months ago so that's something atleast.
Yep, and in 2022 we can look forward to: Amaury Cordeel - finished 23rd in F3 Calan Williams - 19th in F3 Cem Bölükbaşı - finished 9th in F3 Asia and has an e-Sports background, plus 2 seats still vacant 🙃
In fairness, in addition to the comment about Cem, Calan Williams was in a pretty shockingly poor team for both of his F3 seasons but actually managed a podium and is moving to an at least fairly competent Trident. Bölükbaşı is going to Charouz, who have at least been okay, but Cordeel's entering with VAR, who are new to F2, and he scored zero points in F3 last year.
Cem has won races in Euroformula and GT4 series and has some proper pace it seems, williams has podiums in some of the worst teams in f3 so i wouldn't say those two are bad.
I feel like the FIA needs to have some kind of driving class for anyone who’s coming into the junior series with a boatload of money and not great results.
This case tells us: we can do it! We can become F4-F3-F2 drivers. We would suuuuuuuuck though, but it is good to know. Just get your hands on a few million and you‘re good to go!
I think alessio is a perfect example of the story of most motor sports fans. The desire to race without the means to do so. The big difference, is he didn’t give up
Well, as I watch every F2 and F3 session the answer is quite simple to me. Yes, he was. He absolutely was. F2 should require some kind of a superlicence like F1. Its ridiculous that "drivers" like Deledda can occupy seats when other actually talented juniors are stuck in lower categories.
Somebody has to pay the bills. I understand why it happens even in F1 (Mazepin) or WRC (Greensmith). There need to be underperforming pay drivers for motorsport to survive in its current shape. In a lot of motorsport series, there are teams just existing to get by and they need rich drivers, who can't have a seat on merit. For example, Lando Norris comes from an affluent family, but he makes money instead of spending them to race. Drivers like Deledda are an essential part of the existing motorsport organization. It's a surprise that he went as far up as F2, but it's just comes down to him being delusional about his possibilities to have a career in single seaters. Most pay drivers are more reasonable and pick an environment, in which they have some chances for success.
@@theodentherenewed4785 Yeah, thats why I think that F1 and Liberty should invest in young talents, like supporting F2 and F3 teams for bringing talented juniors. I know that lots of teams have to bring pay drivers in order to survive in junior categories, I dont blame them. Whats wrong is that a) they have to do it instead of developing talented juniors (which is the entire point of junior series) b) theyre allowed to do this and basically whoever they want - after all Deledda is not even a racing driver.
just a guy living his dream. to only be a couple of seconds of drivers racing their whole life and this guy started in his twenties is pretty good to be fair
This is probably one of your best videos, i was almost crying with laughter half way through! The ending was fitting though, shedding light on the ''If you were rich, wouldn't you do the same?'' scenario.....YES...HELL YES!!! And slight kudos to the guy as he didn't do what Lord Mahaveer did...Crash multiple times, dangeours driving, retire in his final race just because...he is... oh and collect so many penalty points to get banned..TWICE...In the same season
I sincerely doubt that this guy made enough money to go racing with with just an Economics degree and a couple years to do anything with it. Economics degrees may sound somewhat impressive, but there aren't a whole lot of jobs out there for people with 4-year Economics degrees, and if he went and founded a business after graduation it's highly unlikely that its profitable enough to support an F2 drive after
I see your point about him just realising his dream, but there are other ways of doing that. Stepping up to F2 isn't the way. Go into touring cars, or GT racing. Try your hand at privateer rallying, or stay in a national level feeder series. It'll be cheaper, and you'll probably have a much better time, because you'll be able to compete a bit more.
If you're doing it for the love of it that's fine, but that fact that he kept promoting himself again and again, despite being the worst performing driver each year screams of an overactive ego. As for the video debacle, even if he weren't driving, the fact that he uploaded it shows that at minimum he thinks that kind of behaviour is admirable, which is worthy of criticism on its own.
This guy should race in a lower series, like Porsche Cup Americas, Ferrari Challenge, Renault Clio Cup, or Mazda cup. Do some pro-AMs like the IMSA PRO-AM class. He can still be a racing driver, but he shouldn't be in any F1 feeder series taking up precious space from drivers who deserve it more than he does.
Here's an idea: If it's too late to make it into F1, try to become a mechanic/engineer. Think about it. You have the money to afford a good education. In England I think there are literal classes in universities that are about cars and how they work and all that stuff. If it's too late for racing but still have passion for the sport why not have a go at engineering. It pays well too.
If I had his money I would 100% go racing but I know my place and go racing in a domestic GT series. They have classes to cater for guys like him!! I'd love to know your views on Sophia Floersch.
Yeah, probably because he won there in an exciting fuel mileage finish where he cut off the 21 between turns 3 and 4 causing him to spin out and bring out the yellow on the last lap which ended the race and ultimately handed him the race victory.
Watching *That* driver in F2 over the last couple of seasons isn’t half entertaining. Now we’re getting another one to add to the collection for the next season
As much as I hate pay drivers getting far too high in motorsport that their skill should allow them to go, Thanks for reminding us that there is a human behind that driver, trying to achieve his goal... Just hope he will find some racing at his skill level instead of taking young talent's place in F1 feeder series

This is a good demonstration of the bad that comes with the good of motorsport. You need to start as like an 8 year old and it's bloody expensive. Yeah all sports now have expensive leagues that parents can put there kids into but at the end of the day even if you don't have access to top flight football clubs you can still demonstrate your skill and talent well enough to get the attention of Junior programs or Uni's in the states. The exact opposite is true for F1 and its kinda sad to think that they're may be some kid living in the middle of nowhere who has incredible talent but will never get the chance to even drive a kart.

Honestly dude should be looking at a GT3 career or even LMP3/2. With the experience he has now plus the driving assists of a GT3 car he might not be too bad
Yeah If I wanted to do some racing at his age I would go nowhere near open-wheelers.
How about low level Formula series like Formula Vee or Boss GP?
Absolutely. There are many series, in which he could race and even become competitive. Mark Patterson, who's 70 years old, raced in GT2 European Series in 2021 and won the title together with Anders Fjordbach. Patterson is a vastly experienced driver, but winning a title at 70 is remarkable. Deledda could find series like that and even challenge for a title. He could race for another 40 years if he has time, passion and money. F2 was a horrible choice.
He's running DTM. Qualified last today

What pissed me off of him gettin an F2 seat was that he had In his entire “career” scored only what? 5 points?
The problem is not Deleda. Hate the game not the player. I personally feel bad for him. He just wants to pursue his dream and people are hating on him. Yes he is bad but I don't think he deserves the hate. If The game was set up correctly where only good drivers make it to the top, then we won't see him near the top. That's on the FIA and the teams not the driver. All people who are hating on him if they had the money to at least try to make it to f1 they wil, and most will be just as bad if not worse than Deleda. People are just jealous because someone's dad worked hard to make his kids rich
@@faroukoudaoui661 So, we're not allowed to dislike drivers who have way more money than they do talent? I think people have good reason's to not like those kinds of drivers, and that there isn't some kind of barrier or system in place to stop this sort of thing happening so frequently in F2 especially. It's honestly ridiculous just how low the bar is being set for what's acceptable and what's not, especially when you now have someone like Cordeel on the grid who also falls into that same group of money over talent, and is not only a crap driver but also a crap person too.

Alessio Deledda is a representation on what would we look like of any of us mere fans could buy our way into racing.
Personally, if I was him I'll settle for sports cars, like GT3 or something, because it's alot more fun personally to be driving against others in my level than driving for prestigious championships but being last all the time.
I feel like he’d do very well in a MX-5 Spec Racing Series. Just saying
Micheal mrucz made me Love Alessio deladda with his Formula nascar series
To be blunt if you wanna "live the dream" of being an auto racer and you have the money to do it. Just be a gentleman driver in endurance racing instead of holding up someone who deserves a spot in the formula 1 ladder more.
I'm starting to think I could score a point in italian f4 and I only have a provisional drivers licence
I appreciate that final segment, lots of racing fans needs to hear that
He even screwed over Jarno in his 2022 My Team in F1 22 lmao.
Great video Josh. As a maritime historian, I applaud your Lusitania reference, well done!
As a film fan, I applaud his Goodfellas reference 😃👍
It's awesome to see more American sports memes Josh. Keep em coming!!!
My favourite Deledda moment is when he fell from 4th to 3rd to last in like 4 laps in one of the F2 races at Monza this year 😂 Shows how shocking he is all round. And no, he wasn’t P3 on merit
Edit : I wrote this before seeing Josh mention it
Yup I thought he was gonna show the multiple turn 1 overtakes on him.

Maybe he could have been someone
Lol there is no way he made enough money in 2 years with an economics degree to go racing. He's being funded.
According to the stats sheet Deledda and Guilherme Samaia are the only two drivers that did the full season of F2 last year who never scored any points
Even the great Mahaver scored a point in F2 lol
I wouldn't be surprised if Stevie Wonder could fly past this guy
I wonder too, sim racing is very different to real racing of course, but I think given the time to test and get familiar with a car to drive it on the limit, a guy like Jimmy Broadbent could have the potential to be at a decent level in real racing as well, possibly better than someone like Raghunathan or Deledda, even though they have more experience
SN13K3R Well, look at Cem Bolukbasi, his start to F2 hasn’t been great, and he missed the Imola round after a testing crash, but he is a lot closer to the pack than Deledda ever was.
@@SN13K3R tbf Jimmy is already racing irl with praga, I haven't really seen how that has been going and don't really know how high the level of that field is, but he got a race win in the series a couple of weeks/months ago so that's something atleast.
you may think he's a bust in Formula 1, but check out how he did when he drove for Moobs Motorspor in Formula NASCAR!
Did anyone have the onboard cam for 1 lap of this guy driving ?? I'm very interested with the Monaco onboard tbh..
Yep, and in 2022 we can look forward to:
Amaury Cordeel - finished 23rd in F3
Calan Williams - 19th in F3
Cem Bölükbaşı - finished 9th in F3 Asia and has an e-Sports background, plus 2 seats still vacant 🙃
Cem won a race in Euroformula Open at the Hungaroring, he wasn't that bad.
@@StuffAndMore Proper pace? Is he already recovered from his head injury from his crash?

Talladega Nights intensifies
Watching this before his lawyers get the video taken down
Well, as I watch every F2 and F3 session the answer is quite simple to me.
Dang Josh you didn't need to go after Buffalo like that lol.
Economics degrees may sound somewhat impressive, but there aren't a whole lot of jobs out there for people with 4-year Economics degrees, and if he went and founded a business after graduation it's highly unlikely that its profitable enough to support an F2 drive after
300k congrats!!
Loving these newer sprites Josh!
What a lovely way to sum up the end of the video.

🤣🤣 this might be your funniest video yet. That was awesome

Here's an idea:
If it's too late to make it into F1, try to become a mechanic/engineer. Think about it. You have the money to afford a good education. In England I think there are literal classes in universities that are about cars and how they work and all that stuff. If it's too late for racing but still have passion for the sport why not have a go at engineering. It pays well too.
And we’re still stuck with Roy Nissany who’s pretty much the love child of Deledda and Raghunathan.

Mazepin isn’t super awful. But rich boy entitlement, questionable behavior on track, and there being better options make him as polarizing as he is.

@@ForzaPolska06 "But Mick exists"
This is a good demonstration of the bad that comes with the good of motorsport. You need to start as like an 8 year old and it's bloody expensive. Yeah all sports now have expensive leagues that parents can put there kids into but at the end of the day even if you don't have access to top flight football clubs you can still demonstrate your skill and talent well enough to get the attention of Junior programs or Uni's in the states. The exact opposite is true for F1 and its kinda sad to think that they're may be some kid living in the middle of nowhere who has incredible talent but will never get the chance to even drive a kart.
So Lord Mahaveer is a Schumacher compared to Deledda ?
If I could afford it I'd definitely take a season in F2 or F3 even though I'd probably get similar results to Alessio
