- This week at the Modern image 00 gauge layout New Junction, we have a play with a SQ11 Cube Camera from Ebay.
The camera cost less than £8 and adds new perspective to would be train film-makers. A definite must have stocking filler this Christmas!

These look great, and the quality looks decent. I tried to get some similar shots with a my Go-Pro, needless to say many a signal and many a telegraph pole were felled in the process. These will make life a lot easier!
Will look really.good on your layout! :-D
That's the best quality footage I've seen someone post using one of these. Need to get one
Brilliant camera, not expensive! Merry Christmas and all the best for 2019!!! Cheers Onno.
Many thanks for your support this year Onno!
Watched this, logged onto ebay and bought one straight away 🤣. Looks like great fun.
Great review! I bought this camera so I am glad to watch the video. Thanks!
Went and purchased one can’t stop watching ur running season well impressed Richard 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Glad you liked it Adam! Have fun
Your SQ11 camera info. was very helpful & your layout is amazing. Thanks for uploading.
You're welcome!
Very nice demo of that cube camera. Now I need to get one.... Thanks for sharing
Cheers
Muse
Your welcome Muse!
Great little camera! Thats in my basket!
Some nice running shots around the layout.
Great stuff Richard.
Cheers Tim!
Thanks for sharing this video and information. Enjoyed watching your video
For the price you really couldn't complain about that. Great find!
Great idea, need to get on and see if it fits on one of my vehicles.
Impressed with the picture quality looks great 👍
Nice bit of fun!
I've got this camera and a tip: when filming press the "on" button and this will stop the film while keeping the camera on and in the same mode. This is perfect for when changing camera angles a you don't have to go through the whole start-up again
Brilliant wee camera loved the running session 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Cheers Adam!
Great footage!
I've got one of these cameras which I bought a few months back, still haven't got round to using it on the layout, but after seeing this I really must.
Well worth having a play Mark!
Very cool. Thanks for the look and info.
Your Welcome!
Great update . Was fun to watch from a cab ride perspective.. sort of
Yeah bit of fun!
Looks great. I'm getting one and I will have to test it out to see the minimum distance where all things are in focus.
Hi Richard, you have produced some fantastic images with that camera.. Great little camera.Cheers Greg
Thanks for the comment Greg!
Looks a good purchase nice to see the scotman back
Poor thing needed a run!
I have one of these for my bike which i did put in a goods wagon and push it around in front of the train. Great view
Thanks for the comment Chris!
That is awesome! I love the shot from the camera! I'm off to eBay, catch you at your next post. Keep up the great work!
Cheers Wayne
excellent stuff.
fabulous !!! super quality for £8 !!! especially good on the "chasing" footage..hope you do more with this...could you do a video on how you "put a cab on" ?! ..... great stuff cheers dave
A brilliant little camera for £8! Some really interesting new angles of the Layout Richard!
You love a New Angle! ;-)
@@NewJunction Haha you know it!
Interesting, i’ve seen a few of these, i was looking at the polaroid mini WiFi type cameras I think it’s called and look really compact, Great review and excellent to watch your YT clips, everyone i’ve seen gives great results to, and like you have shown, plenty of ways to film your layout 👍 Thumbs up 👍
Thanks Jamie
Very enjoyable
That's on my Wishlist now.
Well worth it!
Very nice camera I bought mine off Wish, they have some good bargains as long as you are prepared to wait for delivery cheers Colin
Enjoy it colin!
Looks excellent for the price. A late pressie for myself i think.
MERRY CHRISTMAS & A GREAT NEW YEAR.
Cheers Stephen!
Got a pair of these cameras last month. Thanks for the heads up.
@@stephenspinks6486 your welcome
now that is a nice cam for the money. Before this vid ended i went and bought one of ebay. Looking forward to getting it
Haha I've a feeling I've missed out on some commission after the comments today! :-D
I got one a few months before you and used it for my hornby set up. I didn't know there was other modes so I was only in 720p. That helped me. Thanks mate! I have mine in blue. I would also say if you want a cab view, Put the camera on a small box or something to make it higher up.
Thanks pal
No probs!
Hi Richard just popped over to ebay and picked one up as you say for 8 quid nothing to lose and from your video looks ok.
Not much is cheap & cheerful these days haha
Cracking. Just ordered one.
Enjoy!
That’s pretty good quality for what it is I’ve the polaroid cube which in comparison is 10x the price to the similar spec, so great little discovery there buddy 😉👍
Thanks Garry!
Like it! Can’t go wrong for the price AND no fisheye distortion! Will have to get one 😊 The only thing it lacks is being able to stream live but hey ho it is what it is.
I'm sure that's doable :-)
Hi, the SQ13 has WIFI and an app (see UA-cam reviews), just a bit more expensive, ~ £18.
Great wee camera for the price, good footage too...............John.
Cheers John!
The small 'track' cameras do look good. I filmed one where James overtook Thomas then derailed :) The four year old's whose layout it was thought it was most impressive although not at all planned.
Just ordered myself one :D
Great little Camera Richard, can't complain for less than a tenner, bet the memory card cost more than the camera did. Andy
Scarily haha
Nice review...wow thats bonkers cheap...and it looks ok too....
Yep it's Ace!
beautiful video mate and under 8 quid?? thats extremely good value cube cams here are like a grand and sure wish i had one it would improve my vids endlessly
EBay from China, I'm sure it's equally cheap. :-)
@@NewJunction maybe but got no Ebay account nor have shopped overseas
That looks ace! You could potentially use the footage as a 'cab ride video' by using a cab skin from Train Simulator or something?
Joe
Yes!
Great video I would love to capture shots of a layout like that
Cheers David!
Looks good, but could probably benefit from being raised a little so the lens is around the normal window height.
Hi Richard, I bought 4 of these recently for a little more than £8.00 and haven’t started using them yet due to one thing and another. I note there was no time/date stamp which, in my view, is good! I have NEVER managed to ‘bottom’ the application of time/date by using the .txt function via computer. I just can’t get my head round it. Even by watching it done by demo on You Tube doesn’t seem to work for me! Anyroad (if someone knows a way to do it properly, I’d be pleased to hear from them!)
Otherwise, great video and I’ll go get them on charge!!
The cube takes some real decent footage!! Both the drivers view and the loco shots look great!!
Cheers Ray!
and we all counted to six lol, I think you need to raise it up a little
is it possible to get a good view by putting the camera INSIDE a unit or HST cab?
Hello great gadget i may invest cheers.
Well worth it!
Very interesting camera! I have been looking at making a camera train wagon of sorts to bring to shows and such and recently found a post online where someone converted a hotwheels gopro holder car into a wagon for their layout. Main issue i've been having with this is I don't have a camera the right size to fit in there. The go pro that the box recommends using is 38mm by 38 mm by 36 mm in size. How does this one compare in size? Great videos as always!
It's about a quarter the size of a gopro:-)
The focus has some issues but you cant complain at that price, I have a smaller one that can be viewed live, but the quality is rubbish, I will be having a cube for xmas! (well more like end of Jan). Thanks for the heads up.
Enjoy!
@@NewJunction I have actually bought an SQ12 (£9), we will see if its any better than the SQ11!
You should use the lil cube on the magnorail setup when it's complete, or close enough for your liking. Not providing a ton of content, but a neat little video
You mean Everard Junction should use it ;-)
Well it certainly doesn't do as good a job as something like the Mobius but at that price you can't really expect it to.
Would be perfect as a track inspection camera, I think I'll get one.
(My Mobius is in pieces it seems they don't like falling 50 feet from a drone)
Hi mate have you got a direct link to the one you purchased just gone mine this morning and quality is nothing like yours and using the mode button done get any 1080p option instructions don't even state 1080p. So must be a lower quality model or just a knock off of a knock off!
Thanks for the video - can you confirm which type of memory card the SQ11 uses? Thanks!
I do really like seeing this types of image. Did you see Graham Foulston’s video early this year when he had a view as if hanging out of a carriage window? Had to modify an old coach quite dramatically but the affect was stunning. I’d love to try this when the layout is in a more complete state. Bit more difficult in N gauge as the cams are just too big.
I didn't, I'll go and look!
Fabulous video! nice camera! what is the music used?
Perfect timing Richard, had one came to me yesterday. Sadly pigeon English instructions had no idea how to operate.... Still no idea of charge times ? if you know them..
Also there are many sellers of this unit I paid 10 but got it next day, most are from abroad and taking longer... Can you post a link to your supplier and any other information re operating. great video and thanks for sharing valuable info . Happy Christmas.... Paul
You change time when it's connected to a PC. I had no instructions with mine had to Google!
hi cheers Richard I meant charge time,
lol . will look on line I think I put in a too larger micro sd so need to get a smaller 16 gb one
@@NewJunction
Good idea. I wonder if the extra money ($100) on a name brand version of the form factor does also buy one better death of field as the focal range is pretty bad on some is the scenes. .
Your hope so
Very good - I like it from 6:44 - may be that it b/c I prefer Steam locos over Diesel Locos!!! 😉🙂🚂🚂🚂
I just noticed you have 2 europhonixes, you lucky man
For now lol
Greaf stuff! Do you need a card to start using it, or is it 'straight out the box'? Thanks.
Hi Charles, You need a micro SD card.
@@NewJunction brilliant thanks! Might have to have a go at this. Cheers.
At the price it’s s brilliant camera
Yeah it's quite fun!
That looks awesome mate mite get 1 myself do you have the link on where you bought it??
No to hand, eBay is your freind. :-)
Awesome video! What is the music called?
Nice ride. I guess there's no way to change focus. The up close side angle was out of focus. Probably too close. But thank you.
Hi! If I used a USB cable thing, could I put the footage on to my phone? It’s an iPhone not a Android
You could film on the camera then use the memory card anywhere
New Junction Oh yeah!
Really excellent video with great quality video from your wee camera, inspired me to buy one which arrived yesterday. Tried it at the model railway club last night, sadly the video quality I am getting from it is awful. This may be because it won't go into 1080 mode. The photo quality is also very poor. Going to have to return it as it is so poor. This is a real pity as the quality you got was excellent.
Any chance you could provide the link to the specific one / seller you bought from so I could give that one a try?
I don't have the link I'm afraid, it can be effected by lighting some what, the better lighting the better the quality.
I see there is an SQ12 and SQ13. Reviews online suggest they are better. The latter comes with wifi allowing you to view the video live on your phone. Think you are right about the light, even though the loft is well lit, I think lighting may be an issue.
give class 91 a go
Blimey Richard I had two of these neither worked .... you were lucky .... must rip them apart when I get chance , to see if there are any salvage bits ...
Took a bit to find out how to get them working lol
New Junction, maybe I ought to try them again I might have not followed the procedures correctly.... me being a muppet lol... all the best for Christmas Richard..... regards Fred
Hello, the camera record sound?
Yes
@@NewJunction thank you very much
That looks great. Some of the sellers on ebay have dodgy feedback, can you remember who you dealt with? I want one. Thanks Richard.
Sadly this was given to me by someone who purchased of eBay, shop wisely always go on feedback. :-)
@@NewJunction Thanks, will do.
Great footage like the camera is too big for n gauge Regards Mike
Richard you have been little naughty if haven’t been for north joyicey showing your layout. I understand you were running out of time in the last live stream hopefully you can make amends
No idea what you mean? Lol
Richard in your live streams are good but you should make more time in showing your engines it makes the streams more interesting
I hope the SQ11 is better than the SQ8 which I bought a long time ago. The SQ8 was a real piece of crap. ...Roy
8:02 broken mast :(
There's a few, poor things get some abuse lol
still hazy though
Great video. Please stop saying literally.
And risk it not being a great video? ;-)
Great little camera! Thats in my basket!
Some nice running shots around the layout.
Great stuff Richard.
You can spy on husbands wives too Tim lol
@@NewJunction ideas 😂.
Not sure why I've posted the same comment twice 😆
Nice, looks really good, I might use one!
Well.worth it
@@NewJunction maybe I'll start my own videos
