You indirectly bring up a very important point and that is that cordage, not the knife, is the most important survival item. One thing I have bought myself is how to make cordage in the field.
I am building a long term shelter in Texas for lashing would using Stainless steel wire work? I can get it cheap and it would take tools , but I want the structure to be up for years.

I have that same paracord the blue cord on the left tripod is only 30 lb strong hold nylon cord does it work good for you or has it broke ever?
