Thank you so much, been looking for so long, but every tutorial was expecting me to know bunch of stuff already, and didn’t show it slowly. Great video!
When using this technique on large logs for bridges etc the frapping turns were wrapped whilst beating the knot with pick axe handles. This leads to a very secure and tight knot.
Interesting, I always left a little extra on the first clove hitch and when finishing off I would use that to tie off in a reef knot. I felt like this let me make everything really tight. Never had any issues with it becoming loose.
I would tie off the free ends of the clove hitch. Clove hitch is a great easy to tie knot but you have to secure both ends on any style of rope you use. Great video, going incorporate it into my next outing.

There are a lot of comments about using a constrictor knot instead of a clove hitch, but if you tighten this lashing the way you're supposed to, especially in the frapping, it will hold much more than you're likely to demand from it. Especially if you use paracord.
Believe it or not with paracord if you use a few passes of French whipping in place of the clove hitch pulling hard tight with a overhand knot to kick it’ll grab really well
I always wanted to know the right way to do that. I always neglected the frapping turn. I guess that's why it always fell apart. Ok. I'm ready to star in the next " Cast Away".
"...staying on the outside of the wrap I made previously." It works better if you wrap to the outside always on one pole and to the inside always on the other pole, especially if you want your frapping to tighten all the wraps equally.
If you tie it in the field and it rains you will not have a fun time getting them loose. And since square lashings are usually tied in large proportions it'll be even worse.
Pretty sure your supposed to wrap the loose end of the clove hitch around the other side that’s used for lashing wraps, pull it tight, and your clove hitch wouldn’t move or get loose.
C. Craft If you are actually trying to make something, stand on the pole after each wrap and pull up on the rope with as much force as you can muster. This will give you a solid, tight lash.
Perhaps useful for a temporary shelter or something, but i wouldn't trust my life with those clove hitches on the ends as they could easily just continue slipping loose.
A constrictor knot would work much better for holding the cord/rope onto the dowl/limb. Simply take the working end from the clove hitch and take it over the cord to the right, then under the same cord back to the middle and pull snug. This will NOT slip!

What ? Didn't get it
We always used pine and banana rope for our BSA lashing projects. For the long term projects, we made our own rope and used that.
that awesome. Love from troop 63

bambam8541 in scouts we that's all we'd ever use for things like this
If you start off with a constrictor knot then you won't have to worry about your clove hitch slipping
Thanks man this acsually saved my life from a scout
I feel significantly more Tacticool after watching ITS vids. Highly recommend.
Thanks so much im building a platform to spite my brother and I needed this knot

How?
Update....
@@sasha.t3737 one of the sticks I used was too weak and it collapsed but I was able to stand in superiority for about 2 minutes

Love the knots lad
Thx. I really needed this for an advancement. :)

Trying to learn all this before selection
If it’s smooth it makes it slip how do you explain bamboo ladders? Bamboo scaffolding??
Thats nuts...
would constrictor knot or even double Figure 8 hitch be useful in this application?

Thank you very much, a great channel that has benefited from you a lot
I wish you a happy life and know something about Islam
Could you make little notches in the wood and use paracord? I just love paracord and have tons of it and it would be nice If I could put some to use.
I think its just because its a smooth dowel. Sticks are less uniform in diameter.
Why wouldn't you start with a constrictor knot? that wouldn't come loose like the clove hitch.
If you tie it in the field and it rains you will not have a fun time getting them loose. And since square lashings are usually tied in large proportions it'll be even worse.
you can always lock the clove hitch with an overhand
I like the constrictor knot, but put a bight at the end to make it quick release. Can do that with most knots to make them quick release.
Pretty sure your supposed to wrap the loose end of the clove hitch around the other side that’s used for lashing wraps, pull it tight, and your clove hitch wouldn’t move or get loose.
If you wanna get it solid tight use a "Serving Mallet"
How can you make the knot more steady? When I apply force on one side, it keeps bending about 20 to 30 degrees.

Bro tighten it dude, MY GOD!!!

agreed constrictor knot doesn't get enough use. I've wrapped my GI Tanto with continous constrictors gives a great bite on a knife with slick scales
Thanks bro Aloha
Agreed!
All these videos seem to contradict themselves they teach you something and then tell you it may not work... Really annoying!
Agree.. Constrictor knot would be much snugger
Thx for the help

Ummm actually we use paracord and 6 foot tall wooden poles
Anthony Hernandez That’s what I’m working with. How’s your structure doing since you posted?
True
Why is lashing with organic fiber and timber better than parachord and processed wood?
ur head got inthe way dude!
Knots? Owo what’s this?
Nice!
Looks like start and end hitch sucks.

I think you've convinced me to use a constricter instead of a clove hitch. Otherwise, good video. The clove hitch thing bugs me ..
A poor craftsman blames his tools
A constrictor knot would be better instead of the clovehitch
Almost any knot, Anchor knot, Buntline knot, Constrictor knot, rather than the Clove hitch.
Better start with constrictor knot instead of clove hitch!
You did Clive hitch wrong.
whats clive hitch, you spelled clove hitch wrong
