I was one of the homeless people in this video... I'm no longer homeless after 10 years of homelessness..they did put those condos up... they put fences around the area and Morice Passed away...God rest his soul.. that man advocated for the homeless in this city for 10 years..he did more for the homeless than any shelter, organization, outreach teams, programs...thank you all who made this documentary
So sorry to here about Maurice. How did you get off the streets? If you don't mind me asking. I just buried my aunt, she was homeless.
@@taramiller7106 during the COVID-19 shut downs the Gov got all the homeless people off the streets and put us in hotels for free..it was apart of the stimulus package...the Gov did that BC homeless people were the most seseptible to catch COVID-19...I stayed at the crown plaza hotel for 8 months... once we got into the hotels we were garenteed free housing.... so they gave me apartment with Free rent

I will always remember this homeless man, who asked me for a cigarette while me & my fiancé were on our way home after a night out in Bristol. he was so polite & well kept considering he was homeless! I gave him one & asked if we could sit down & join him, he was so chuffed. When we got chatting I realised straight away that he had a very educated accent, I asked him how was he in this situation.. His ex wife had taken him for every penny he had(He was a artist who had been very successful) We sat with him for hours talking as we had our own successful catering business, we gave him £100 to get a hotel room and some food, and offered him a job, he stayed for 5yrs, he was fabulous & he eventually trained to be a chef and has his own business now! If we had just walked passed who knows where he would be now, we are so proud to say he is our good friend still after 15yrs! I know this is not the case for a lot of homeless people but you know when it feels like they deserve a chance!

One of the best documentaries I have ever watched.
Mr. Maurice Young is the epitome of leadership. I cannot express just how impressive he was as a human being. I'm sure he isn't perfect, but his calm leadership and wisdom really is inspiring.

It’s not just the cities anymore, I live in rural West Virginia, and there’s a few homeless people here. The homeless, in my area, are drug addicts but I know that’s not always the case, in cities.

For anyone watching this who may be homeless... About 10 years ago I got released from prison in Illinois, was a homeless heroin addict on the south side of Chicago for two years after that. Found a treatment center in Gary, IN. Then went into a halfway house and OBEYED THE RULES. Started with the clothes on my back. Took two years to get my driver's license back, etc, etc. Doing odd jobs to pay old fines, etc. Saved up to buy a hammer, a drill, a wrench, work boots. Absolutely no place would hire me because of my felonies. Just kept going, and four years later have my own contacting company. It can be done but it takes EFFORT from YOURSELF.

I need to show my bro you comment . He is in the cycle of smack and being in and out and homelessness, he is a great worker and if he could just put one foot in front of the other he could easily run a successful business and NEVER worry about most of the stuff that seems to flip over his life. I think he expects he will get a big score instead of slowly running the race. I had him clean and detoxed a month or two ago but went off at him for drinking. He left and now he is sleeping in his car. DRUGS DONT JUST AFFECT THE USER. I know it not my fault but I blame myself for his relapse

I am homeless myself in Denver, Colorado. Most heartbreaking thing is the violence between the homeless, stealing from each other, hurting each other. It's sad and makes us weak..

My friend is homeless in Colorado. I talked to him briefly last night as the snow was pouring down. And he told me about the homeless stealing everything he owned time after time. You posted this a year ago. I think things have become much worse this year. I don't know how anyone survives on the streets. But more and more people are losing everything and ending up dumped on the side of the road.

Maurice (the gentle giant) Young passed away on Jan 31, 2022. He was found unresponsive at the Wheeler Mission men's shelter. Maurice was 53 and will be missed by many.

Maurice cared and helped people without a place to stay; he did what the City and those greedy, stealing organizations WOULD NOT DO. Maurice cared. It is very sad to hear he died so young in what sounded like a jail-like shelter. And to read he was found "unresponsive" in that shelter shows the lack of caring for human beings. This same situation increasingly happens all over the USA. Disgusting!
I was homeless for 3 years on the streets of Massachusetts and I was keeping my heavy duffel bag in a burnt down building during the day so I didn't have to lug it around. I went in to get some things and change my clothes and the next thing I knew a cop was standing in the broken down doorway screaming at me. Now mind you there are no doors, windows and half the building was burnt down. As soon as I stepped out the door I was tackled by a cop they literally stood on my neck and face in the gravel telling me if I moved they would kick me in the face. I literally didn't do anything but do what they told me to and they beat me for absolutely nothing just because I was homeless. They actually tried to charge me with breaking and entering into the building with no doors. I took pictures and brought them to court I showed the judge and she was pissed at the cops for doing what they did it was great watching her yell at them once the system did the right thing. The people who I met on the streets were some of the best nicest kind people I have ever met they just had problems. Some mental health issues some PTSD and other like myself addiction but I never hurt anyone. People think because you are homeless you are automatically a horrible person which couldn't be further from the truth. Sorry for the rant 😂

This is a great film and a sad situation for America....I was homeless 24 years, 14 years in Augusta, Georgia and 10 years in Washington, DC where I'm from neighboring Arlington, Va. I still worked throughout most of my homeless years but could not afford housing......I busked on guitar while in DC which helped me make money and keep my sanity......It's a very sad situation, I don't know what the answers are.....but harassing the homeless should in itself be a crime...
Having been homeless myself i allready knew how this would end , but cried anyway. If there was more people like Maurice and his friends in this world we'd allready be living in heaven on Earth ! All the people from local government, law enforcement and the mainstream media should be thoroughly ASHAMED of themselves. ...but special mention must go to the "lady" who ran the local business that put in all the complaints so she could line her own pockets - an absolutely disgusting human being , they all need to have a long and very honest conversation with whatever God they pretend to believe in . I used to pass by a homeless man in a wheelchair every morning on my way to school. I would always tell him good morning. He would say it back. He was always writing in a notebook. I noticed he had very nice handwriting. The little I learned about him, he lost both legs at the knee in Vietnam. He was an alcoholic. He told me I was the only one who would greet him , the other kids didn't acknowledge he was even there. I hope the people who tried to pretend he wasn't there have had a change of heart and don't treat others like that now. I wonder what happened to him. If he is still on this earth I hope the pain has healed, and if he isn't on this earth anymore, I pray he went to his heaven and is happy ,no longer hurting.

I served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps, I did one 7 month tour in Iraq. I was an alcoholic for 23 years or so, was a drug addict for 3 years after that. I don't know how much ugliness I've caused on this earth but I know it has way to much of it and I don't want to contribute any more of it.

Maurice is a born counselor. He really turns the group into a functional family.
Except for his family. Remember he had a wife that left him and more importantly a KID that he attempted to kidnap and flee to a different state. I wonder how his offspring are and if the are upset their dad is not in their life. Or how they would feel to see that he is a caring kind man, just not to them

@@tamarrajames3590 well it specifically stated he kidnapped his child and fled the state. The child was recovered and given back to its mother. No charges were filed and a few days after he dropped out of society. If thats your idea of a loving parent, i pray you don't have kids

He acted out of fear and love, my Mother still loved him as long as she lived, he was just broken by the war. I'm a 67 year old woman who was homeless in 2016 and was on disability and. Couldn't afford a place on my own. That's why I was homeless. I got really sick and ended up in the hospital the people helped me there. I'm now in an assisted living facility. Thank you for the people at Methodist hospital. God bless them!!!!!

I'm crying listening to this woman saying that you have to be a couple that's married that if you're two men or two women you're not allowed shelter they could be friends for all you know this is so outrageous human beings are what we are and we should be treated with dignity no matter what

me and my fiancee are living in a tent in Maryland with our pets due to losing our home.i lost my home in a house fire 2 years ago then I moved in with my SO and we lost our home due to landlord selling our home I'm on disability and she has a major heart problem and has filed for disability. we are worried everyday that the police will destroy our home and take our fur babies.The process of getting housing take a long time due to funding.We are both sober and trying to have our lives back God bless yall. #homelesslivesmatter

Don't lose hope hold it tight it's only have for those have situation like this I experienced the same thing when I escape to my narcissist parents live in emptiness it was hell but when you pray to get out to that situation you can and still there's fellow that always willing to help to restored the broken life just be patient and wait for the good luck...

My husband and I went through a similar situation. We rehomed our pets because we had cats and a parrot.. We didn't think they'd be safe. We were judged for that. I still miss my pets so very much and it's been years. Our landlord had to sell, it wasn't their fault, but we had nowhere to go. We were treated so terribly as homeless people despite being drug and alcohol free that we chose to move out of the area entirely... Left the state (different state from you) with anything we could carry and never looked back. It took us a while to get back onto our feet but we did! We've been living in an apartment now for coming up on 4 years. I'm self employed, my husband has a good job. While we were homeless we both felt so horribly hopeless and truly wondered if we really were "useless bums" like people told us. People would even go out of their way to destroy our tents and belongings! We went through three of them, dozens of blankets.. People would stumble across our area and just cut up the tent with a knife.
It got to the point where on the path the location we chose (in the woods) we had placed thorny branches all over so nobody would try to get past it. It's so unfair that people in hard times can't feel safe.
We weren't eligible for any shelters because our town only had a men's shelter during the winter. No women's shelter, no family shelter, no couple shelter.. just men.
Maurice is a good man. He has a heart of gold and a gentle soul. I teared up when they cuffed him. Even more so bcuz no matter what, Maurice kept on smiling.
Poor Maurice. The bridge is being cleaned while the people are being treated like rubbish.

So many heartless individuals who would never let themselves imagine to be in a place like this. God take us home with you please. The US spends about half its total budget on care for the poor, especially older poor, in the form of Medicare, Medicaid, subsidized or government housing, welfare, food stamps, etc….by far the biggest item and more than the double the second item, the entire defense budget.
But it is just a tough issue - knew a social worker who described spending ~20 hours getting a homeless person the job they wanted….watering and caring for plants at a large garden center, including arranging transportation, talking the boss into giving them a try, etc. The person did great for 9 days…then quit, with the only explanation being “it was fine, but God has other plans for me.” Many (not all of course) also have an aversion to any rule or requirement, seeing it as control, to the point that some have left housing, shelters or programs due to them having rules.
And providing mental health care is also tremendously difficult…for many, there are no effective treatments, inpatient care is hugely expensive (just to keep everyone safe takes lots of staff), and many who need it most will decline or leave to go back on the street. Just few easy answers.
Trillions for war and very little for humans, the mentally ill and the broken sad world.
It's no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society - Jiddu Krishnamurti America is in the business of war now with the rest of the world full scale, the US economy is collapsing and war means business. It wouldn't unfair to say America government is the business of war.
The real problem is the attitude of these city officials. Lots and lots of federal dollars have poured into communities to address homelessness especially in recent years, but it is squandered or gets spent on something else possibly. These city officials pretty much revealed their lack of interest in helping the homeless. First they blamed it on New York, claiming NY sends its homeless to Indiana! ( 😳😳). Then they said it's their choice to be homeless and not the responsibility of the larger society to support or house them, even though many of these people are mentally ill or addicted to drugs or alcohol and obviously cannot change their circumstances without support. So this attitude is the problem. Red states tend to underfund social safety net programs and generally despise the poor and vulnerable.
Trillions poured into foreign aide, and have been for decades….. do some research into that.
And this money has been given to particular countries that actively hate us and are actively sponsoring terror against America.
We have poured trillions into the same countries with little show of improvement , because corrupt goverment officials take the money and goods for themselves or warlords take the goods and keep them, sell them or sell them to the people that were supposed to get them for free.
If we cut some of that , we could do much better by our veterans , our homeless, and the millions of other things that need funding in America.

Great documentary. I worked all around Indianapolis and lived south of the city. When working in Montana I became disabled and had to wait for my disability. I to became homeless. Theres a lot of people hurting right now. I wish those homeless the best of luck. It can happen to anybody. Thanks for sharing.
I found this was an amazing documentary. I just want the filmmaker to know that I appreciate them and all of the sacrifices and heartache that they went through to produce this piece. I also invite you to come to Las Vegas where they do this on a weekly basis. I wish there was a way we could save them all maybe one day we can.
This documentary is top notch, unbiased and raw. These and all homeless deserve better. They are PEOPLE that deserve respect and kindness.

I work in a job where I interact with homeless, drug and alcohol addicted daily (some of my customers). They get treated with indifference or little to no respect by many of my colleagues. I treat them with respect and ask them how are they doing, and make small talk with them if they're interested. Many of them are surprised at the respect and enjoy talking to someone they normally don't have a chance to interact with.

Indiana being my home state and Indianapolis being my residence for over twenty years l absolutely remember this travesty. I walked every location in this video countless times. I've experienced on three occasions periods of homelessness. Not nearly as severe or of a duration that these people have had to endure. In 87 l slept in a tent at a campground south of the city. In 95 my two children and I lived in an RV my dad give me, and in 18 l lived in a Jayco Feather Light camper, on property owned by a friend of mine. After about six weeks the authorities said l had to go because the property was zoned agricultural and my camper was considered as a dwelling. It's tough not having a sense of place no matter what the circumstances. Being down on your luck is not a crime, and personally in 22 and beyond l see it being more of an issue than ever.

LOL..... It's tough being responsible. Developing and maintaining healthy relationships, obeying the law, busting your a## at work 45-55+ hours a week, being on time, paying bills, working hard, being accountable to others, and sacrificing to save a few dollars along the way is not an easy life. That's why so many homeless people don't do it.

Im homeless for ten years soon. Not living on the streets though. I live with friends now I finally got my caravan. 🙏 people who have no support of family can easily find themselves on the street. It is very complicated after one mistake you can be stuck for years. Folks judge homeless people too easy. We shouldn’t judge the less fortunate. Most people would never help only judge. My cat has more integrity than most human beings. Thank you for the space I could write this here. Take care of yourself people. Good bless you all

This was an excellent documentary!! I myself am homeless so I feel tremendously for these people. I think it's really sad how they went about doing what they did to these people. The city is truly horrible for the treatment of their homeless citizens.
I know it's been quite a while since this documentary was made but I'm sure it will leave a laying impression.

I've been homeless, was for 5 years and what I see is that money talks in our broken society while the poor and homeless are shoved further and further into desperation. It's a crying shame that not a single person offered to let just one person pitch a tent in their back yard yet they gripe about the dirty homeless people. What the gentleman who ran the camp was trying to do to help those people should be taken to heart and given more attention because homelessness IS society's problem when society refuses to help. The city of Indianapolis should be ashamed of themselves for spending 16 million on a cricket pitch field instead of spending it on where it's needed most. That money could have gone a very long way towards helping the homeless folks. SHAME ON everyone who was involved in that whole operation. All in the name of greed. No wonder our country is falling apart at the seams. Yes I'm no longer homeless but I still go to the homeless camps and help those that I can when I can. I will never forget being invisible to people when I was homeless. It's a wonder that every homeless person doesn't go stark raving mad. God Bless those homeless folks. I wish them all the best.

The problem is that, at least around here, nearly all the homeless are addicted to meth and sometimes also to other drugs, including alcohol. But meth is the biggest percentage. I didn't consider meth when I allowed some homeless to stay on my property. Pretty soon they were inviting all their druggie friends, andmy property became out of control, and squaters wouldn't leave, and I was knocked out by two of them and robbed by others. They are expert in telling a good-willed person what he wants to hear, but they lie all the time. I wouldn't do it over again. So then the City got on my case. But wouldn't allow me to evict the troublesome people either. Oh it turned into a nightmare and isn't over yet.

Its like I seen this coming for a long time. Our gvmt has become more and more corrupt thru decades. Corporations paying less and less. No more benefits, no advancement. Homes, apartments, the cost of living going up but wages the same for 20 yrs. They get richer and now its as if its gone past the point of no return. Not a cent is reinvested into, hell, Ill say it MAGA.Its as if our own gvmt hates us and want to destroy us. Where I live I have watched apartmt rents double in the past 6 months. 800 dollar increase to sign a yrs lease. $700 then a rent increase to $1500. How can Anyone be expected to live? Its sad and scary and every day every block people trying to get some sleep or cook a dinner in the park. My heart breaks while my mind just hates the greed, the coruption worse every day.
I want to deeply Thank you for such a incisive and compassionate documentary on the travesty of American life.. I am an American expat who cries for the broken dream of my immigrant ancestors. I live an ocean away and this documentary confirms my belief that I will always be a stranger in another land. It was brave and much needed- keep going!
I read the article about his death in IndyStar and about to search for Maurice's TedTalk. I don't know him, but I miss him. Its bizzare. This shows the massive impact this man's life energy had on others. He lived his life well serving others. What an amazing man.
I've always been so thankful for the life I have. We've had hard times, but we've had people there to help in those times. It hasn't always been easy but I've always helped those with less knowing that could be anyone at anytime.. including myself!!

Not having a home is been my life 'but I've Givin to others' all my life 'but I suffer the most. Now I'm writing a book 'need funds to get it published. It's a hard read. But true.
Homelessness can happen to anyone ! AND I MEAN ANYONE !!! Don't judge these wonderful people. They are people like you and me !!! Some have issues. They need help in different forms. They don't deserve to be ignored. More people need to have a heart like Maurice does.

Sadly, they are not "like me". So many have severe issues and drug abuse. Could I become homeless? YES I could, but I work at not letting that happen.

This is so sad. I have been there a homeless veteran at one time. I know what these people are going thru. My prayers go out to them and a God Bless to those that try to help them....
The amount of $ they spend on that law enforcement unit would go a long way toward providing "hand ups".
I watched a documentary on "committees" & what a waist they are.
For an example, they looked at a committee formed in Cali.
The voters wanted tax $ to provide 1 warm meal per day for homeless vets.
The committee met 1 time.
In that meeting , the committee concluded that there wasn't enough $ for the program.
The $ that the committee was paid for their 1 meeting would have been enough to fund the program.
Someone said “this is un-American “, it has been one of the most American actions one will see. It has been happening for far too long. Shamefully, my own city dismantled a tent city too, more than 15 years ago now. Homelessness can happen to anyone, putting them in prison when what many need is mental health care or a leg up is no answer. If you don’t have an address and a home…good luck finding a job, no matter how worthy you may be. When you sweep people under the carpet (like dirt) they don’t stay there. Sad century.🖤🇨🇦

I'm an outreach worker & a person in recovery that had stints without shelter. I'm so happy this exposed the rules that systematically rule out the very people that need shelter & mandated Christian worship. As a Christian I wouldn't want to be forced to attend a different faith in the name of shelter. Most faith-based shelters are operated this way which I find to be disgraceful to Christianity. If one has warrants or isn't "dresses appropriately" they also can't go to a shelter. Very few people can meet the qualifications.

i was homeless in Atlanta for most of the 2000 -2010's and this is such an accurate display of urban homelessness. in my time as homeless, i was apart of two large camps that were destroyed with bulldozers. it's an ongoing cycle to just keep moving the homeless around!
that guy said the govt had no constitutional obligation to help homeless... but yet in most every case, the govts greed and decisions are a big part of what causes homelessness! wake up ppl

I was homeless for about five years in Phoenix Arizona and it was very difficult! Surviving on the streets takes a lot of endurance and motivation! If you have an addiction that makes it so much harder.
Luckily I was with my best friend and he protected us,but let me tell you,we got jumped at a park by four native American men and they didn't care that I was disabled with a walker,we did nothing to provoke this ultracat ion and they really hurt my friend we called the police and because I kinda fought back with a pair of sewing shears in one of their back because he was kicking my friend in the face and all four of them were punching and kicking him I had to do something,the police threatened to arrest us and believed the four said we claimed to be white supremacists! Which was bull crap! I was at this park because I had a female issue,cysts on my ovaries and I was just trying to lay in the shade not bothering anyone!I was in so much pain,I had already been to four hospitals and I couldn't get any help,as soon as they knew we were homeless we got treated like crap! So after that happened we went to the hospital and my friend got ten stitches near his eye and had a broken nose they had to set his nose and put rhino rockets up his nostrils,his whole face was cut up and swollen! It was brutal! But as I was saying we had it a little better than most of our friends out there because we didn't have to support a drug habit:) we got to donate plasma which helped a lot and we had each other! But sometimes it was bad when mean people would do stuff like one night we were sleeping sitting up at a bus stop and woke up to being spray painted,some jerk and his friends in a car pulled up and spray painted our faces! It was so bad:( people in cars would drive by and throw rocks at us or eggs! I just couldn't believe people could be so immature and heartless! Luckily it's all behind us now,we got into permanent supportive housing:) we have been here since 2017, and it's awesome:)Most of the people who live here are still using drugs and I can't see why but that's their choice,we just stay to ourselves and we are doing very well:)I'm in the process of getting disability and widows benefits,and my friend works for bike food delivery service!to be continued........

Very interesting & entertaining story. Glad you guys fought back & are back on stable ground. I had a similar incident while living in a shelter. Walked to the corner store for ciggys and a LGBTQ member started the business with me. Due to me not wanting to engage in his personal problems (had my own honestly). He started to follow and harrass me. When I was leaving the store, he was waiting outside the door for me and jumped to scare me ..i guess! I reacted before I knew what I was doing and hit him dead square in the jaw with my coke! His mouth started to bleed & HE YELLED YOUR GOING TO JAIL!!! I hauled ass back to the shelter before curfew...all the while he's following me attempting to hit me with those orange construction cones! It's hilarious now. People will prey on the weak if you let them.

I came across this video and it is the most heartbreaking thing I thought I have seen in my life I've seen many homeless people and I've done everything I could to help anyone and everyone regardless of race or color that is just who I am and in My DNA all that was involved first I want to thank the gentleman for covering the footage with all the homeless people out there they're not fighting they're not arguing they're just trying to live from day to day but today is febuary the 12th 2024 and we have more and more homeless people on the street with families with bad health but we have so many migrants taken over our children's schools and God knows what else is going to come out of this I cannot thank you enough for showing the awareness of our homeless living on the street anyone I Believe in My heart by the grace of God knows where I'm coming from and what I'm going to say is anyone that had their any parts of how they treat or how they treat all the Americans that lived and died here for each and every one of us the good Lord and karma will come back to those that has done wrong by others karma never loses an address Jesus was poor I think that today that the heavenly father is bringing out all the homeless to show what is to come everyone can learn from the ones on the street they see with clear glasses everyone that thinks they have it sees do the Rose colored glasses I am so grateful that I am not the only one out there trying to fight I can't thank you guys enough for sharing this those who cast stones the one who had the money to help those are the ones at the end of the days will be running to the homeless for help because let's face it we all know what's coming and the sad part is it is the homeless that will share more love and light and bring you in and feed you whatever they could because God has touched them and more ways than anyone can ever imagine so my messages always treat people the way you want to be treated be kind to the homeless talk to them ask them if I can do something for you today because after all we are All God's children never forget that one day you might be in their shoes and they will be the first ones to have your back and love you unconditionally and never care where you came from that is a message that God has been trying to share with everyone and no one is listening

In 2008 I was living in a beautiful home that I thought I would raise my kids, and be there for the rest of my life. I was there 17 years, but the 2008 market crash happened. Made it thru, but a lot of people didn't. Not in that home anymore, but doing GREAT money wise. My son was also murdered at 20, so I'm saying...unexpected things can happen to each and EVERYONE of us no matter how prepared you think you are. NO one person is exempt. Including you!!!!
Years ago I met an older couple in Arizona who had an old van they lived in they were going from swap meet to swap meet the reason they were homeless was because they both worked and had their own home upstanding citizens then the man got cancer and after their insurance ran out they applied for welfare they had to sell their house and everything they owned to qualify for help then they got so little they become homeless. This happens all over this country BUT if you are here illegally you are eligible for everything including social security that you never worked a day for.
These people are humans not garbage! They have souls! God bless those who help them! No one has ever become poor by giving! Kindness is a gift everyone can afford!

It was good seeing that doing the work to try and help these people down on their luck. It sickens that rich preachers buy jets instead of helping the people rotting in the streets probably outside of their mega churches. Its great seeing the real stories of these people living in the street its scary not having a roof over your head. This should be a national emergency tax the churches invest it in the people who could actually use the help.
All I can say is:
Thank God for folk's like Maurice; & all of these faith based churches who ACTUALLY help the homeless in downtown Indianapolis!
Maurice said many great things but what he said during a tedtalk hit me most. He said "The two most important days of your life,” Young said, “are the day you were born and the day you know why.” 🙏

People have to stick together. Everybody should have to experience homelessness to understand it. You can lose everything you own overnight and be put into that situation. Never think it can't happen to you!

I was homeless for 17 years, but I didn't sleep in the car or in a tent,I slept in cheap motels because I managed to get a job, to save money so some days I could buy a house.

I had no house insurance so I was and I'm disabled and on a fixed income. Therefore, I'm having a terrible time to RI. Used to have excellent credit. But I've used cash and now I have no credit. And there's other technical problems which I will not get into here. Thank you for your video and thank you for those who took this video to let people know that the homeless matter too. They are people that somebody's father. Somebody's mother and somebody's daughter that somebody's son. God bless you for making this video

I was homeless with my brother, in Aurora Colorado for almost 3 years!. Someone needs to enable these people. Yes some people do not clean up, they should. But where do you put your trash? What should these people do?
I have met people I love so much! I've met bad people. There are people who do not have skills, are mentally ill. I have had bad attitude from people who run homeless shelters! I've run into people who are caring.
I've had people who gaze at us like trash. We have had caring people help with food! I have compassion for these people. We now have a home in N Platte Nebraska. Thank you God!

great doc, I've worked with this vulnerable population, most folk either don't believe that level of discrimination exist. I've seen it first hand I saw a trans woman, bullied by catholic staff and rejected from the woman's meal line and forced to eat with the men while she was further insulted. I was leading a group of out of state volunteers. we voiced our outrage in the moment and after the fact, but the employee and institution stood by their actions. It's a crock to call that homeless shelter a ministry.
I'm sad to have discovered that Maurice was found dead on January 31 2022, at the Wheeler Street Mission.
He was 53.
Only the good die young.

I just got out of wheeler mission 2 days ago. I have a severe opioid addiction since the age of 16, I'm 28 now. I've met and seen many of these ladies and gentlemen during my various stints of homelessness. May an angle be appointed to everyone of these souls.

This was such a wonderful documentary. It was very obvious who was really doing God's work and who was just talking out of their a**. You will know them by their deeds. Thank you for shining light on a problem that has only gotten worse in this country since 2013.
I was homeless in 2016 I had to go on disability and couldn't afford a place on my own. I got really sick and ended up in the Methodist hospital. They knew my situation and helped me I now live in an assisted living facility God bless you and thank you for your help

there was an old homeless guy in london uk , he would smash shop windows so he would get locked up for the winter ( 6 month max ) after the third time he done it the courts would not sentance him any more they fined him instead , he had no income no home an just got ignored after a while , he did stop smashing windows but is that an answer ti homelessness , ah don't think so , but hey we got a new war starting mega bucks for some misery for most , aye !

The homeless here do have places to go, and some of them here turned down the places offered. There are food banks, churches to help. The Ukraine has NOTHING. No food banks, no churches to help, no shelters. Their entire country is being destroyed. Big difference between them and the homeless here. The Ukrainians are accepting EVERY piece of help they are offered.
The portion of homeless who prefer jail are the lazy who refuse to do anything to better their life. They are the people who just want a free ride off of the backs of hard working people.

I had a thriving LLC doing janitorial contracts then I broke my arm and needed surgery....I obviously couldn't just call in sick...I lost my biz and was left w 100,000 in medical bills. I've lived in my car at Walmart for over a year now barely making it doing door dash. Maine went from being one of the cheapest states to live in to the 4th most expensive and hundreds of people are applying for the same apartment....I still feed those less fortunate and have let others stay in my car w me on sub zero nights. What did u do today to help???
That ending was hard. Literally scooping up all their possessions in the world and throwing it away. You know the police and city officials were laughing inside. No respect for them. The workers in the vests looked like they detested what they were doing. They knew it was wrong. The film crew did an excellent job covering this story.

If anyone is homeless reading this, go to Boston if you can. They have every resource you'll ever need, and I just got my Section 8 housing after a year of being on the list (and there's lots of different housing programs). I lived in the woods for the past 3 years (after getting 2 Masters Degrees, becoming a behavioral therapist for autistic kids, and escaping domestic violence several times). All the free resources kept me healthy until I got my apartment (and it is beautiful!)
