California was BEAUTIFUL in the 70s and 80s. You could find a job in 1 or 2 days. Hobos/Winos were homeless, but they were few and far between.

It can still be beautiful if we do something about it.

And as long as you frame it as a recovery/sobriety issue you'll still have people fall through the cracks. No doubt it's the leading driver of homelessness. I'm not saying it's not but to tell people unless you go through this the way we want and you have to be sober, etc, there are always going to be people who would rather not. I truly hope some of these programs can have a place to help everyone but most times they have the one size fits all approach. And I'll tell you from experience, nothing is worse than trying to get recovery services being grouped into people who are there because they are forced to be and not because they want to. But hey as long as they are there the govt money keeps flowing and that's all these organizations care about.

I believe if you create a way such as taxing the most wealthy these issues would dramatically change for the better. Now many are just packing up and leaving with their wealth and going somewhere else. If you take care of your community from the beginning it simply doesn’t get this bad

I'm in Australia we try our best to hear what the people need and act on those needs. We have a long way to come as a community and as a nation. However tere has been improvment definitely and as rapidly as we can over the last 5 years or so. Blessed

I use to volunteer at Haven For Hope. Something important they left out is that Haven offers rehabilitation services for residents and sets up residents for success by assisting them with job placement and future housing outside the center. They require you to be clean if you are a resident. Their outreach team found that homeless people with pets didn’t want to leave their furry friends so Haven built a kennel for them. They built a garden where the residents help staff and volunteers grow fruits and veggies for the residents. California needs to get on it because it’s a dump

We can all be the change and we should be acting and advocating for tnise that think they are not seen, not heard and not loved. They are not bad oeople6they may have made poor choices but they are not bad or always criminals. They need to believe they are loved, worth recovery and support until they can love themselves again. We should be thinking more about oaying it firward to them instead of tearing them down. More people need to have a more generous assumption on their lives and help them and nkot only themselves

I have a homeless roommate. He’s not homeless now because I took him in . He has a history of addiction. He also has fetal alcohol syndrome. Having been educated on AFS I understand they are some of the highest risk from the day they were born! Yes these people need care and compassion . More importantly the public needs better education on mental health issues. FAS people are missing the switch in their brain for delayed gratification. They can be impulsive and lack self control. This is common from birth.
So now we introduce them to some drugs and they are down that rabbit hole sometimes beyond any hope of return. They need cognitive therapy and structure, they often can’t self discipline . My roommate admits without structure and daily routine depression kicks in. Friends for 15 years now and I’ve had to see him hit bottom and climb back up over and over.

Banks running the housing market gets you this. Throughout the US I never had trouble, with a minimum wage job, finding housing. When I came to California, the fact I had no credit, because I never took out loans, kept me out of rentals. I had enough money for three months rent and had people turning me away because of my lack of credit History. This is unheard of in the rest of the country. The government intervention and state totalitarianism causes these issues, then they profit from it. Most corrupt and uncaring state I've ever lived in

Why didn't you move? Most landlords are going to check your credit anywhere in the US.

@@HopefulHelen81yes I heard that Australia has a credit system. I think that’s a good thing to have.
I didn’t know it was USA too? I’m Canadian and our parliament is dabbling on it. I am an extremely greedy landlord that rents an additional suite for $600 a month plus a share in the electric. (Sarcasm)
My tenant trashed the house stiffed $2000 on the shared hydro and left a bunch of junk I had to pay to remove. She was Reno evicted for mould.
She ran space heaters and bitched about mould. It turns out she never once cleaned the dryer vent and it was completely plugged all the way to the exterior of the vent outside . Every time she did laundry that moisture way staying inside . After 3 years It did cause a lot of damage and mould . That falls on the landlord ya if it breaks the landlord is responsible. I used to overload my washers as a tenant and eventually blew the transmission. I think I cost several landlord’s a few new washing machines. I didn’t know at the time not to overload and today we have all front loads but in the early 90s.
There is NO restitution in Canada for landlords and how would I collect if I did take the time and effort to take her to court? That’s the kinda shit that got me switching to AirB&B The damages cost more than a whole years rent. I gave the girl a screaming good deal to help her and I got bit really bad. But it’s ALL LANDLORDS ARE GREEDY!
I was a tenant before now I own. I’ve been on both ends . Anyplace I’ve ever rented I left in better condition than I rented it. Other than breaking the odd washer. I even had a landlord refuse to accept a months rent cause I fixed damages from past tenants. If I got payed days before rent was due I didn’t wait till the first to drop off my rent. I’ve NEVER had a tenant pay even one day early. In Canada there is zero interest on any basic bank accounts now. So why do tenants wait to the last minute? Pensions welfares almost most incomes are days before the 1st of a month. I hate being a tenant and being a landlord has its EQUAL Fair share of problems.

Permanent homeless is equivalent to the five stages of death: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and finally Acceptance. Once Acceptance is reached, this is their life, they will adapt, some thrive, they learn how to live homeless, where to get food, where medical services are available, share resources with friends, just like a prisoner becomes institutionalized, homeless will adapt to their situation.

The state of California has this idea that it's worth more than it really is. Sure it has its beautiful vista's and near the ocean, but that's about it. People in the past gave it a high value and nobody seemed to realize the older it got the less value it had. Prices keep going up, but who ever is in charge of making sure they don't price themselves out has screwed big time.

luv the unrealistic solution, build a compound like San Antonio...like maybe that would work for just the homeless but what about the mentally ill homeless and the drug dependent addicts who are homeless by choice? Yeah, it's not a one type solution that fits all, so keep looking, I hear Sweden and Denmark might have solutions 🙄👎

Right now all the migrants coming in the Mexico border are putting an added impossible strain on resources for combating homelessness in our own Americans. Seniors are the fastest growing homeless population. Housing first is a small start. Support services, social workers etc, also need to be implemented. Cities, states and the federal government need to get together to fight this problem. One small idea is to revamp some of the abandoned towns for homeless people, but don’t just abandon them there.

  • @dunjaausmosbach4898

Because of the climate change you can not just build more and more houses. Can´t you see? California ist full of to many streets and houses already. No one should live on to many square meters. Just share the room we have. Concerning migrants: you cannot choose where you live in a country. You should go to less crowded areas if tyou want housing.

the real estate industry is making people wealthy while people are dying on the streets. the lady is full of bull. she just ended up at stanford. what doesnt add up, is that she doesnt disclose that her family comes from wealth generated from the real estate market.

    • @tracywatts1459
      @tracywatts1459 5 місяців тому

And banks! For every dollar behind real-estate banks are charging another dollar in interest . $100,000 home cost $200,000 to pay off. $300 it’s 7 half a mil it will cost a mil. It’s not necessarily real estate alone. Everybody is at the mercy of a bank to own a home and they have you committed for 25 years.
