I love the videos where you're able to share time stamped images or video of your plants throughout their growth! So satisfying to see lil babies grow big and beautiful (despite setbacks).
It’s really so scary when plants go downhill (especially our favorite babies), but I’m so glad that you were able to nurse him back to health! He’s looking great ❤
I'm a total noob with plants & adore your vids. I learn a lot from your process and you explain things in a way I, a beginner, understand; but also in a way that looks like experienced people won't find tedious either. El Choco's gunna be a monster!!! You're great!! thank you!
stark contrast the way I repot versus how you do it. I normally use the "hulk smash" and cram the square peg in the round hole method. your videos are so calming. thanks for the upload!
Watching you gently breaking away the substrate, along with that relaxing music, was sooooooo satisfying! Love your videos and how careful you are with your plants. I tend to be a little heavy handed with them (mainly cos I'm so pressed for time). Thank you for your content 🙏😄
This video is such a good reminder of the ups and downs with expensive or even just our favorite plants! I just has this happen with my thai constellation and it was a rollercoaster or emotions but i feel alot better after seeing your el choco doing well! :)
Thank you so much for the update on your beautiful El Choco Red!!! I finally added one to my collection a few months ago and it’s for sure my favourite 💚💚💚
Yeeey 👏 he's back 🌱 looking great! I'm so glad 💚 you have inspired me to get my little baby el choco last year for Christmas since then she's grown to be an absolute queen 👑 one of the most precious plants in my collection! Thank you Fern 💚🌱
Dear Fern, if you want to put the moss pole into the pot, add some LECA down, than turn the pot upside down, put the pot on the down size of the moss pole and turn both around. In this way the LECA, or whatever you put in will not fall out. Than you can add soil and plants to the pot. Love you! Hugs to Olive! XX
This whole video was as satisfying as peeling the catifill, lol. Something that helps me when potting with a moss pole is to use plant tape to hold the plant in place and then fill in the substrate around it. That way, I have 2 hands and the plant stays where I need her to 😊
i grew mine in ambient humidity and it was super easy going, showed me nothing but love!! i unfortunately had to sell it as i was moving and i miss it dearly. this video is making me want to order a new one actually...lmao
How did I not see this video? Omg. So happy the El Choco is doing so well now. Such an amazing and beautiful plant. Hope you are doing well. Much love to you and lil Olive 💕
Definitely one of my top wishlist plants but frankly even my standard Gloriosum doesn't like me so I'm working on mastering her care first. This was so satisfying to watch and it's even a little bit awesome that when you make a mistake or have a pest problem or something with a plant you can chop it up and have multiples!
oml what a glorioud update! ive been strugling with my baby tiny teeny el choco red for a month now, and hes about to lose his last leaf..siiiigh i love him so much HAHA it makes me so sad
Your El Choco Red is such goals. I've had two. My first one was taken out my spidermites. The second, the leaves started to die off and I found out that it had root rot. Luckily the stump was still good. So now if's just a stump in leca but it looks like it's working on a new growth point. Fingers crossed.
I am so jealous of your el choco red. I got one that I thought would have dark green, velvety leaves like yours, but when it was delivered the leaves were so much lighter in color and hardly any velvety feel. 😞
@@wildfern I know, right? I got it from Peace Love and Happiness Club in Seattle and I trust them very much. Maybe it's a hybrid of some sort? I don't know. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply! I just love your videos!
I found this vine at this waterfall that literally drops off into the Ocean in Maui. It looks the same and the leaves are really soft, the vines were climbing all the trees next to the river.
I’ve been watching your journey with this plant and enjoyed seeing the update. Very curious to see if it really takes off with the bigger pot! Fingers crossed 🌱
Thanks, Fern for another inspirational video on how plants can bounce back. Also, for product reccos. I just ordered some Thiccly poles and some clear pots (so I can keep better eye on roots in 2023).
Beautiful El Choco; I’m putting off getting another climber but oooh so tempting. I also like Philo Golden Dragon and Violin.. They’re so 😊similar right?
Great video as always, I normally dont comment but had to pop in and say I get the same satisfaction peeling dried up bits off my plants. Can we have an indulgent cataphyll peeling compilation video/short Fern? 😉
'I was not impressed. hahaha. I am so glad you made this video it reminded me to go check my baby el choco. Mine is in the phase we she is tiny and just chillen for now.
Wait a minute. El Choco Red is a climber? I thought it was a crawler. Wow. And the leaves do look like a crawler's. This is so cool. Now this, I need. Thank you!🤩
@@wildfern Upon further research, apparently it is a climber. And all pictures that I see, shows that their stem(albeit, short internodes) actually does look like crawler's stem, just that it grows upwards. This is pretty exciting as I had a DMD that was so stubborn and wanted to climb and even dwelled with the idea of making it climb(might as well). But now there's a climber that looks like a crawler, it is definitely on my list! Currently only semi-adult ones available. Want to get a small one and document it's journey. Thank you!
All my love fern! I wish I could get my choco to size up: first it rotted and then it dried out super bad all the time so I just threw it in pon. Pray that the roots take, don’t see any new roots yet and I usually do right away with pon. 😅
I bought a little baby juvenile plant that completely went downhill for me. I assume my initial mistake was thinking it would do okay in ambient room humidity (which is typically around 50%) while being near a humidifier on my desk. At the first sign of trouble I moved it to a different room that typically has higher humidity for most of the day and it still declined. One by one all the leaves have yellowed and died. I have one leaf left and assume it will start to yellow soon. I'm new to this hobby so I've not yet had the chance to create a greenhouse cabinet, but I'm still so disappointed I just couldn't figure out what it needed in time.
It seems suspicious that it would die from being in 50% humidity. Mine are quite happy in that range. If it’s roots are healthy and there’s no pest issue, you should be able to revive it. Put it in a large ziploc bag and bright light (no direct sun) and it should come back for you. Good luck!
@@wildfern Thank you! I really love this plant and want to make it work. I did actually check the roots and from what I could tell they looked good. I did actually place it in a Ziploc bag the other day so fingers crossed she comes back from the brink. Glad I found your videos because they really feel approachable for someone just starting out. ❤️
Do you have any advice on how to root an el choco chonk/wet stick? I've had a piece with no leaves/roots sitting in a cup of water for literally a year! Ive tried sticking in pothos cuttings, rooting hormone powder, and nutrients in the water and still nothing. Its still green with a green growth point, but it wont root 🥺.
Does the philodendron el choco red have similar care needs as a verricosum? Mine has gotten pretty crispy since bringing it home. It was my birthday present this year and I don’t want to lose it. I’ve moved it to a higher humidity area and it is in a moss pole.
Thank you for making this video! I love El Choco, but have the worst luck with them. 💔 I have one now that I'm hoping we've come to an understanding, so hoping we can stay happy together. This is only my 7th attempt at keeping one. 🥲❤

It’s just too short. It would only be pulling on it awkwardly. Once it’s longer I will secure it!
