Loved this plant spotlight deep dive! I got my el choco red about 4 months ago and it is absolutely stunning! The leaves are so so gorgeous and velvety and it has the coolest backside and deep red cataphyll. We are in the dead of winter here so I’m anxious for the spring and the growing season although it seems happy and is sizing up decently now. I loved the slow-mo montage! So funny!
The slow-mo had me in stitches haha 😆. Also, your high regard towards this beautiful plant inspired me to also purchase my own baby El Choco from the same online store a few months ago. I adore how it's grown and recently reached the cataphyll stage! Thanks again for your entertaining and inspirational videos!
I actually loved the slow motion with the beautiful music, hypnotic in a way! Choco is amazing as was Brad, who barely moved, even in slomo, chill cat. ❤
Interesting, you are giving me ideas of growing in a moss pole and hanging them on walls, then just putting a bucket underneath on watering days. I won't tell my husband I'm thinking of this 🤫
You’re the first person I’ve seen that actually describes how the moss should in a pole. I had mine really shoved in there. I never thought about it not being too packed in the pole. And the talk about petioles, and cataphylls! I learned so much. ❤
Congrats on your Avant-garde El Choco Red! It popped from just a minuscule tissue, went on a moss pole with 3” leaves, grew up mostly without a pot, sun-stressed like a Hoya & looking fabulous!
I love your videos. Looks like you are settling into your new place well. You are a treasure of knowledge with plants. Thank you so much for another awesome video. I always look forward to your next one.
YESS! Not enough people talk about this plant! I really enjoy this plant the most because the internodal space is so small... unlike my splendid, after a leaf I feel like I need to get a new plastic moss pole for it.
Omg I just bought my very first established el Choco yesterday and it’s beautiful 😍… I’ve never had plants before so this is my first baby and I just landed on your channel to know what I should do with it (Sydney-sider here too!) 🙌
I like your videos, and your special attention to the plants, therefore they respond with gratitude to your love💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 The monsteras, behind you at the beginning of the video, are gorgeous 😍😍😍
i love your vids! i can't wait to see mine get that big, i actually have 2 in one pot staked. ima try a moss poll for the first time. looking forward to new and exciting vids!
OMG such a beautiful plant! This makes me want to get my tiny el choco on a moss pole so I can try to replicate your results. Thank you for the inspiration so amazing!
Mine is the size of yours when you got it, have been afraid to put on a moss pole (no Grow Vertical here) because I worried the pot would be too big for the smaller roots, it is in Arnold mix though. Maybe I should bite the bullet and put on a pole, I want it to climb not crawl. Thanks for the update on this plant, great video as always!
That was awesome. I would’ve never thought of doing it. That way. I have a small seedling as well that I’ve had for about a week so I’ll wait a couple more weeks before I put it on moss pole
Nice tutorial. I can’t wait to get el Choco during our spring in the US. I love the back of the plant as well. I’m glad to see that with ideal conditions, it grows so well in a year.
Thank you for the video and my first laugh of the day with the slow-motion part. It may have been frustrating for you when you discovered it, but thank you for showing it to us. I have two Ikea cabinets full of plants, waiting for winter to go, and have them on moss poles all around the apartment. Thank you for all your videos. Hope you don't have to move again for a while and if you do, to be your own property.
New plant added to my wishlist.. I have finally ordered my moss and poles. It is currently coming up on "winter" in Florida so Im going to wait for first of March to get them set up for spring. Thanks for all the information!!! Its very encouraging.. ❤❤ Hi Brad!!! 👋🏽
Hey Jan, just watching this again as I found an El Choco Red at Bunnings today for $59.95! I will leave it in its pot for a few weeks then put it on a moss pole. Went in just get batteries but you know what it is like when you go to Bunnings! Great advice as always.
This video was so entertaining, from the 'sexy backsides' to the slow motion montage - loved it!😂 Your El choco is stunning! Hoping to get mine like that next year 🤞
This is probably one of my favorite plants. Both the front and back sides of the leaves are gorgeous. I got a pretty large one a couple months ago and it's been getting some strange dark, circular spots on its leaves 🤔 they just seem to pop up anywhere on the leaves 🤷🏼♂️ maybe somebody here has an idea (even though that description is not very specific) fungus maybe? Yours looks amazing though! I love these plant spotlights :)
How could I miss video about my favourite plant of all times? 😱 I love the way your el choco looks like, still hard to believe it took only a year! Beautiful plant! Can't wait until spring will come in my country, my choco is doing great ever on winter but I'm very curious how he''ll grow during spring /summer time 🥰🥰🥰
So encouraging seeing this beautiful plant's growth timeline. If you hadn't said anything, I would have thought the slo- mo was just your version of Chariots of Fire , cinematic genius!😹 Happy to see you in the new space, the warm light makes the red in El Choco really glow.😻
I‘m a new on your channel. In love since the first video I came across! Beautiful! Happy days I found your channel! In love with your chop method. Don’t like moss poles, but now I’m eager to try this! Thank you! Keep going! Brad is fantastic ❤
“Lookit those sexy backsides” 😂 Jan I was under the impression that your channel was wholesome! ❤😂 Lol slo mo repot, will it take off like ASMR? You having to organize all the related videos and then putting them seemlessly together is phenomenal, there’s only a few plant channels this organized that I’ve found and so professional, enjoyable to watch!! Have you don’t merch yet? I want your shirt! My fav part of all this is getting a baby plant, and seeing how we do with it, how big /mature I can get it, and share the more rare, so fun propagating and making new plants for others or to add to my mothers pot
Love the slow motion. If you hadn't said, I would have thought it was deliberate. El-Cho, I always thought they were climbers. 🙋Whilst watching this video I researched to be sure, and it is a climber! 💁♀ Love to Brad 💛💛 btw was watching the manjula. Want one, but in the UK they are hard to find. Will keep looking.
I'm always surprised by the amount of growth in your plants but then I remember I live in NL and it's the Australian weather mine are longing for (it's winter here atm)
gluing the leaves back on...😂 This video was hilarious. I also think it wouldn't be as rewarding if I just bought a large plant. I like growing them too.
For sure!! Everybody can buy a large plant, not everybody can grow a large plant :) so much more rewarding !! Haha glad that little joke didn’t slip through 😂😂
That is genius, growing a small plant and upgrade to a tall moss pole. I made a small ‘moss pole’ out of a coke bottle to grow a Variegated Monstera. Adonsonii cutting, and I didn’t know how I was going to put it on a tall moss pole, now I know! Thanks Jan. I had an idea of how to help roots attach better on moss poles where they need extra help,I found that pins pop out and don’t push the node in enough, what about wrapping a grafting tape around the node and the pole to tighten it? Love that El Chico,it’s stunning, you said you gave some to your ‘ friends’, well I thought we were BFF, Pffff,I don’t remember getting one! 🤣🤣🤣 As always 💚 Natalie
Crazy, multiple thousand dollars 🫣 When i sae this plant in your collection, i just orderd it for 20 bucks 😄 crazy how different the prices are. You can afford a flight from europe to australia just by packing the right plant in your luggage 😂
I’m obsessed with your el choco. I finally got a plug last week and it took a week to reach me. It’s dead now. Didn’t survive the transit. It was puny w barely any roots.. all of the leaves have wilted away.. 😭
Do you think El Choco Red is easier than verrucosum? I’ve decided to stop putting hopes and dreams into Vera and put my energy into Spencer, my Splendid, lol. He is growing so much more easily and vigorously.
Wonderful growth on this plant !!!! As always, your videos do not disappoint. Made me want to aquire one, which I just received today. I do have one question, if you have time to answer. If not, I understand completely. The one I received has quite red / darkish roots and I can see yours are white. As a very concerned plant parent, I don't know if that's normal or if I should repot it in a week or so ( in a nice and chunky aroid mix, what else ) to give it time to acclimate and not shock it too much... Thanks for sharing all your work ( mixes, advices, experiences with all those beauties ) it really motivate one to try and make one's plants as happy as yours :)
This is so beautiful, Jan, I just found this plant at Bunnings today, bought 2, I hope I can grow them like yours. What is the name of the yellow/green plant in the background on the right hand side, it’s amazing.

lol at the slow motion montage 🤣❣ what a beautiful plant, i can't believe how happy it has been in your care!
Thank you:)
Ikr I laughed so much !
Very talented!
BTW I absolutely admire how seriously you take your content creating job. 12 months of filming just for one video?! God, never seen that before. ❤
Thank you :) appreciate it
The slow mo clip was surprisingly funny 😂
Haha :D thanks:)
The Slomo was like a “ love story”, fun watching the timeline.

I'd love to see a philodendton splendid update! The leaves have sized so beautifully!
literally had to pause the video because I was cackling so hard at the slow mo footage with the music 😭 now that's what I call ✨cinema✨🤌
haha :D thanks !
You’re the first person I’ve seen that actually describes how the moss should in a pole. I had mine really shoved in there. I never thought about it not being too packed in the pole.

Video like this takes insane amount of time, dedication and project management skill. So happy to see your El Choco grew so majestically!
Thank you so much :) appreciate it !
The slow mo is hilarious! That’s the sort of thing I would do😆😆😆
This plant deserved the slo mo montage! I want one of these so bad! 2024 wishlist Plant! ❤
Congrats on your Avant-garde El Choco Red! It popped from just a minuscule tissue, went on a moss pole with 3” leaves, grew up mostly without a pot, sun-stressed like a Hoya & looking fabulous!
It even had thrips in between as well :D seems like nothing can stop her :P
I recently picked up one of these beauties and it's unfurling a new leaf. It's now my favorite ❤
Thanks for the great info 🌱
Thanks :)
Definitely need more slo-mo! Please? Fabulous, as always! xx
You make me laugh every video. Loved the slo-mo!! 😆Thank you sharing your beautiful plant with us. 🌱❤️
I love your videos. Looks like you are settling into your new place well. You are a treasure of knowledge with plants. Thank you so much for another awesome video. I always look forward to your next one.
Thanks :)
This is great and I recently got a small El Choco Red and hope mine grows this well and beautiful!
You got this! 💪💪
Was it just me? Slow mo was like watching a love story 💕🤣🤣🤣
I have an el choco the exact same size and the one in your before photo so I clicked on this so fast. I’m so excited to watch her grow.
Happy growing :)
The last moment in video is legit me choosing a new couch to go well with/for the cats 😂❤️
YESS! Not enough people talk about this plant! I really enjoy this plant the most because the internodal space is so small... unlike my splendid, after a leaf I feel like I need to get a new plastic moss pole for it.
Verrusocum is even worse :D
Amazing growth 👍

I like your videos, and your special attention to the plants, therefore they respond with gratitude to your love💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
The monsteras, behind you at the beginning of the video, are gorgeous 😍😍😍
Love this! I got one from Dexter about a month ago and it's been growing like crazy.
Great success! Don’t know why the slow mo made me smile so much.
Can’t wait to see another update on this one!!!!
*El chocó dramatically waving around in slow motion* 💚😂

Thank you so much, all your videos are soooooo useful. You such a kind soul mate.
What a year!! So awesome to see it all from baby to now. My favorite was the slow motion, hahaha. 😁
Thanks for taking us on that journey. 💚
Thanks :)
My fav plant spotlight's back! Omg so excited 🎉❤😂
Slo-mo. My new favorite. That was great. Awesome growth in a year. Thanks for the video. Lighting in the new apartment looks good.

It was funny when you said you were going to glue the leaves back! I agree I would be thrilled with even just half the size. It is beautiful!
hehe :) thanks :)

Suppose inside a cabinet you can easily supplement the conditions and get similar results :)
Hoi Maddie nog een Hollander hier.. gezellig
@@sydneyplantguy sure, for the smaller plants :) I can't imagine putting a cabinet in my room where my Splendid would fit haha
@@Tminus89 would probably have to turn the entire room into a cabinet. Or use a grow tent but they are ugly.
Hey fellow Dutchie! Mine is growing really well in living room conditions here, on a moss pole (Jan inspired me). I do use growlights!
