My vote is that she will THRIVE 🙌🪴
I do hope soooo 😍 thank you!
When air layering, you select an unrooted node and surround it with moss/plastic including plastic between the node and the moss pole. You want the roots to go into the moss within the plastic, not into the moss pole. Roots into your moss pole only complicates removal and you will end up ripping roots out of the pole, giving your starter plant a real set back. Use thicker plastic layer between your plant and the moss pole and surround it with plenty of the moss. Keep it moist.
I have even seen people who will cut pieces of a plastic cup and place one between the node and their moss pole before wrapping the node with the moss and plastic.
Ooh random thought when trying to fill the bottom of the moss pole with potting mix. I know this will be explained terribly but it makes sense in my head 😂 use a flexible but stiff piece of plastic, printer paper, whatever, wrap it around the bottom of the pole before you fill it. Plop it in the pot, fill the pot with potting mix; then slide the paper or plastic out after the pot is full 🤯 (makes note to self to try this next time)
When I leave an empty spot at the bottom of my moss poles, I’ve filled it with landscaping pebbles/gravel to weigh the pole down a little more lol
Can’t wait to see an update!
This is an approach that @SydneyPlantGuy calls "chop and extend." He does it all the time with aroids on moss poles, and his leaves grow to ridiculous sizes! Not sure if you follow him, but he's another of my fav plant-tubers. :) Love to you and that gorgeous Splendid, @WildFern! ❤ 🪴 ☀
I love @SydneyPlantGuy.
Yes I was just coming to say no one I’ve seen on UA-cam has GIANT plants like his and he chops and extends. I hope he gets credit because I watch ton of plant videos and no one but him has ever done that.
She is going to live on 👌 Good job Fern 🙌💙
I hope soooo 😍 thank you hehe
I think as long as you really keep up on the watering to keep it moist, the upper/mature section will be ok. You’ll likely see a decrease in size in the next leaf or two but otherwise I think you’ll be great! 🎉❤
I really hope so! It's been a couple of weeks and it hasn't yellowed or anything yet 🤞
@@wildfern Yessss that Green Queen Magic ✨🥰❤️
So many good suggestions for filling the bottom of the pole! My husband and I have found if we put the pole in the pot and tilt it at about a 45° angle we can "drop" the soil through the holes in the mesh and fill it that way. Love all your videos and your sultry voice in the beginning 💗
Love the mike situation in the beginning! It’s very calming to listen to 😊
I think she'll make it! My splendid has been super hearty through some rough times - with pretty much no root at one point! (Cold damage 😬) yours looks beautiful!
I find that older nodes on Philodendrons are more difficult to grow new roots. Usually you can grow pretty good and long roots on fresh nodes. Hopefully it will be ok. Hybrids are hardier than the parents. 🙂😉
That makes so much sense! I didn't even think about it. I have learned my lesson though lol. I hope so too, it's been a couple of weeks and it doesn't look terrible 👀 keeping my eye on it.
i love the mic! 🎤 the audio on your other videos has never bothered me but using the mic in this one sounds more relaxing to me 😄💗
I think the reason the air layering didn't work well was that it was quite low down on the plant. Aroids usually focus their growth hormones on the upper part of the plant. You definitely can air layer lower down but it'll just take much longer to root well. I find the same with cuttings, the cuttings from higher up on the plant usually root faster 🤗
Ohhh interesting, I didn't even think about this. That makes a lot of sense - thank you so much!!
I notice this on my momma pothos!!!! Wow so true!!
I'm also curious as to whether the roots on the inside of the pole have dried out. If there isn't root growth already happening at that node then it may take much longer to root via air layering
Ahh yes Sydney plant guys chop and extend. His plants are GIANT AND BEAUTIFUL
Hope she lives 😊
We need a fern asmr channel 😂🫶 the microphone is everything 💯
😂😂 thanks tara 💓
Awe! I don’t think I ever heard Olive bark. She’s so adorable 🥰
My vote is that your beautiful plant will continue to grow into an even bigger beautiful plant under your care. Best of luck splendid
That kind of air layering is so hard! You have to get down precisely to the cambium layer and it’s difficult. I think it’ll be fine though! It looks great
They will both do great! I look forward to watching them blossom. I am also on a journey with my Splendid.
I truly believe it will live & thrive!!! Best of luck with your beautiful plant 🪴
I just started poles a few months ago so it seeing bigger leaves yet, nice to see yours grow nice and tall
Watering and keeping it moist is the key
Hope your favourite plant likes to grow bigger leaves now, but hey you still have the bottom as a backup, always a good idea to have one
Fun to see you try various projects with your plants
So happy for you getting 100k,
Nice you always keep it simple and real
You did a great job on the new pole. Looks amazing, and you didn't get too frustrated. Kudos my dear.
Ahh thanks so much :)
I’m Enjoying ASMR Fern at the beginning. 😊
😁😁
With you taking care of it it’s going to live
That intro had me thinking this was an ASMR crossover. 😅 Splendid is on my wishlist for sure!
Same!
I believe that the plant will survive. Keep up with the watering and it should take off. Great job 👏
Fern, love the splendid my favourite philodendron sp. also
i’ll vote it will live! i think that even if there isn’t any root growth in the moss pole yet, it’s one big prop with multiple places to get roots :)
also love how realistic your videos are, you’re trying something new with us along the way❤️🌱
That was nerve wracking and awesome at the same time to watch! I think it’s going to root up wonderfully.
Fingers crossed!
Yay!! You did it!! She looks Splendid! ❤❤❤🎉
I love your guard dog 🐕 ❤️ 🤣 and I really think if you keep your moss poll damp, it'll survive 💚🌿
Fern, you’re so cute with the mic voice lol I love how you are so real bc I’ve also tried air layering and said f it and cut it when it wasn’t ready. Good news, it’ll continue to grow just fine.
hahah right! I did not want to put it back on and wait another month or longer 😩
I took some cuttings from an old philo (scandens). It refused to grow new roots in water. After it has been in water for a while, I popped it into dirt, even tho no new roots grew. It survived somehow. The new growth is coming, but it’s slow. It’s probably because it’s old. 🤷🏽♀️
I’m sure it’ll be ok!
I was thinking, if you try to use a paper to wrap around the pole and fill it with the soil maybe its easier to don't spill soil mix
asmr vibes with the mic 😂 love itttt
i hope the cuttings do well!!
😂 thank you MK!
All signs point to "YES" 🔮🧘🏽♀️
Keep the moss pole moist, the soil watered and yes she’ll live.
I think it will grow healthy, thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas.
Thank you so much. Merry Christmas!
I love this plant. So beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Fern watch the roots and don't let dry out. Love you 😍
The mother laying on the floor was making me so anxious lol
Hahah poor thing was just chillin 💀
Loving the “sultry voice” & don’t kid us, you ain’t switching the bright colored zip ties for black ones 😂
Ashleyyyyy 💀 lmao calling me out
If it's any consolation, I have never air layered my splendid and they root SUPER easily in water and even maintain their propagation leaf for a super long time. I was terrified it would be finicky like verrucosum is but not at all in my experience. She'll be just fine!
I've chopped mine at least 10 times and have never lost a cutting.
Amazing 👏 thank you!! I looove how tough Philo hybrids are 💓
such a beautiful specimen 😍
Oh it will live for sure. You got this
Thank you! So far so good 👏
I'm sure it will work just fine! 🤞
I hope so 😁 thank you Lyne 💓
ohhh yay. gonna be chopping mine tomorrow night 🤩 thank you!
Ahhh exciting - I hope it goes well!
@@wildfern Thank you!
I vote that she will make it.😁 What a gorgeous plant.
I vote for LIFE 🎉
Great job 👏
I think it will grow healthy roots. Thanks for sharing.
I hope so. Thanks so much for watching!
Please remember to keep the pole watered!! Haha. It looks so good!
Perfect woman right here. Splendid.
You have a beautiful plant. I had a mature Splendid cutting and overwatered and it died. 😢 It's the only 1 plant that I'm still sad about when I did that mistake.
Ohhh shoot :( I hope you're able to get another one, I love them so much.
I think it’ll do great, those roots will catch up to the pot in no time I’m sure!
Definitely Thrive 🤞🏼
You got this fern ❤❤❤🎉🎉
You’ve got this
It will work in your care..
Just a thought for while you are putting the soil in the base of the pole. Is it possible to tuck some moss in to stop it pouring out as you put it into the pot?
Wow, interesting and informative!
Enjoying the video but where did you find clear pots? All I can find is 5" orchid pots or small takeout containers
Hey! I just found them in the orchid section of my local plant shop (Gardenworks)
You have already air layered the plant by having it attached to the moss pole I would have thought. 🤔. I’m sure she will survive 🙏🏼🤞
Rather than filling the bottom of the pole with potting mix I always get lazy and fill it with either straight leca or straight orchid bark, you're more patient than I am!
It is a pain in my butt every time lol.
@@wildfernI'm watching that part right now and dying 😂 🤷♀️
Looks good for living.
It will be totally fine 💚
She will survive 100%
She'll will liveeee 😁🌱
omg i thought i was the only one with random hair balls on the floor 🤣
Splendid are so hardy, you shouldn’t have any issues! That new leaf may not come out well since you chopped while it was emerging, but the next one should be 🔥
When she started to topple, I cringed. I believe she will live and continue to size up. I love the mother plant. She is so full.
i am concerned but will hope for the best
this is where I'm at too lol
Thumbs up 👍🏻 She is going to do just fine.
Awe thank you so much for this comment Paula! I appreciate it ☺️ It sounds like many of us had a not so great start with Alocasia haha. Good luck!! x
I almost had a heart attack when she almost fell over 😳🫣🫢
I can’t believe I’m the very first person to watch this and it’s been out for 2 days!
I'm not sure how you were able to see it before it was released lol 👀
Trying this with my golden Pothos right now, btw talking in to the mic made you look like a reporter to me, do you have an update to this and did it root?
love this!!!
Thank you for watching 🫶
Hard to get older nodes to root after the fact… I think itl be fine maybe use “great white” or similar to boost root growth quicker ✌️
Ooo yes - there is Dynomyco in the potting mix so I'm hoping that will help!
If you moisten the potting mix before putting it in the pole it might stay?
Could time of year be a factor in why the layering didn't take? Mother Nature gave it a heads up the polar vortex is en route to BC 🥶
In an environment being manipulated with lighting and heating and humidity, your plants have no idea the true season. If you aren’t doing any of that, then yes, definitely
It definitely doesn't help, I find things root more slowly in the winter. However, I'm currently air layering my verrucosum and it has taken super quickly - I can already see a bunch of roots after just a couple of weeks. I think the main thing that caused it not to take was the fact that it was an older node. People pointed this out in the comments and I said it's harder for the plant to root from a node that far down, which I had not even thought of!
@@wildfern Ah see I just learnt some things. Notes were taken 😉
It's going to be great!
hope you guys enjoyed the watch party!!
we did, it was so fun! thank you 🥺
It will thrive❤️
Hi, she will make it for sure 🙂
Maybe it’s the time of year/temp?
Is a yes❗️🙏
💚🌵🌱☘️💚
REPOTTING QUESTION! I have a FLF cutting that has huge leaves*, a stem about as big around as your middle finger, lots of roots, getting a new leaf, growing in water. *Two big like 18" long x 12" wide at the top, big leaves. What do I pot it in? I got it from a crotchety old lady and I don't want to kill it! Help!
Hey! That sounds like a gorgeous cutting. I've had good luck with growing FLF in a terracotta pot with an airy potting mix. Even just adding some perlite and orchid bark to an indoor potting soil would be good. Choose a pot big enough to accommodate the root system, but not too big. Hope that helps - good luck :)
@@wildfern Thank you!
Is there an update on this??
Sultry may not be what you was thinking of but i was
💀
❤️
Plants in winter don’t grow. That’s why it didn’t produce roots.
Hi fern where did u get ur shelves in ur milsbo cabinet? ♥︎

@@wildfern where did u get ur other shelves? Ur long ones?
❤️❤️❤️
Because it's a winter
I think it'll make it if you keep up watering the moss pole well enough ☺️
I've been really strict it about it, so hopefully!
All of my poles are made with the same bright zip ties 😂
hahah!! amazing 😂
You sound like NPR but in a v hot way ❤
Bruh moment
☺️☺️
I noticed ! I noticed that audio upgrade ! I think ... its new! Damn or is it me ?
Yes haha I was using my mic in this one! 🎤
